We have driven by this restaurant way too many times without stopping. You could always tell the food had to be good because the parking lot is almost always full! Well... we finally stopped in, and it did NOT disappoint! For me, the bread can make or break a sandwich, and this was hands down some of the best sandwich bread I've had in a long time. Fresh, flavorful, and absolutely perfect. Now, I'm generally a pretty positive person, so I tend to look for the bright side of everything. My husband, on the other hand, isn't nearly as enthusiastic when it comes to food. So when he said--and I quote--"This may be the best sandwich I've had in a very, very long time," I knew that was the highest praise this place could get! The edges on the pancake were crispy - just the way I like it! I had no issues with my eggs, which usually turn out medium to hard scrambled. THAT alone was a huge plus! The best home cooking that I remember from all of the FA's. I used to frequent the one in Arlington and in Lakewood with my Dad on a regular basis for as long as I remember. Ernie picked me up from my cruise at Jaxport. I told him, "pull over and we can have breakfast, my treat"! I did not have to twist his arm. We had the best food and Waitress. Very welcoming, cheerful, and attentive staff. Our waitress was very sweet. It's the second time she served us. I had the roast beef sandwich smothered in brown gravy. The meat was chewy in some fatty ends of the beef. I wonder how fatty the beef looked without the gravy. The turkey sandwich was not tasty but the stuffing was good according to my husband. We pick food up from here all the time and take it home. I always get the same thing which is the turkey and dressing with extra dressing as my side. The gravy and the dressing are SO good. They actually make southern dressing (using cornbread), not that yucky stuff northerners eat called stuff (I think it's made with bread crumbs?). The turkey is good, but it is a bit too salty for me. That may just be me though because I am not a fan of salt at all. My husband has never complained about the salt once. So take what I'm saying about the salt with a grain of salt. Haha! We have had breakfast in the restaurant a few times. It's your standard breakfast I order like scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, grits, toast. There's really nothing special about it, but it's good! I do really love their grits. They are SO much better than Waffle House and most other places I can think of that serve grits. The servers are all really friendly and fast. This place has gone way downhill. There was a sign up that they needed cooks, servers, and managers. This was not a good sign, but we were hungry and we had a good experience the time we came before. There were tons of dirty tables and all of the wait staff are older women that looked like they hated their lives and their job. Our server was nice but slower than Christmas. She would literally pass our table with empty drinks or needing boxes or needing the ****** cheek to be paid and would just walk on by. I served for 10 years and could have worked that whole section with my eyes closed and they had 3 servers in that section. I ordered a patty melt medium with Swiss that came out well done with American. Even if I had wanted to send it back and get it corrected, I couldn't have because SHE NEVER CAME BACK to check on us. Like ever. And when I did ask for boxes she kept walking and rolled her eyes. I didn't want to tip her AT ALL, but we did because I hate tipping zero. The fries reminded me of frozen fries from my old high school. They were garbage. The patty melt tasted amazing despite coming out wrong so that is the only reason this review has 2 stars. My husbands Double cheese burger was also good but came out well instead of medium. His onion rings were not good. Do yourself a favor, don't come here. This restaurant is the absolute worst. Tables were unclean for over an hour and the service was horrible. Labeled as a local breakfast spot, we decided to try it. It's a seat yourself type of restaurant. Upon arrival The food looked good. We placed our order and it took nearly 45 minutes for a club sandwich, some eggs and corned beef hash and a fish entree to come out. Completely unacceptable when the restaurant wasn't full. The server was useless when we asked on the status of our order. The servers look like unhealthy chain smokers. We left before the food ever came out. And in hindsight we never should've ordered.
