Salmon Pasta with Sun Dried Tomato Sauce.
    Jeanne W.

It seems I have passed by this place for decades on my way to Urban Pet. It didn't seem to be open all the times I walked by. It's a little hole in the wall that is easily missed. I was finally able to check this wonderful restaurant out after moving from the area. It was worth the wait. We had their signature Three Mushroom Salad, Salmon Pasta, and Clam Pasta. Everything is cooked in a flavorful broth (my sister saw Swanson's broth being used) without butter, MSG, or shortening. Light and healthy. Their Warm Mushroom Salad is a must have for the table to share. It has enoki, portobello, and button mushrooms cooked in broth served on top of mixed greens and topped with toasted seaweed and sesame seeds. A very tasty salad and would make a nice lunch by itself if you don't want to share. The Salmon Pasta had a generous amount of salmon in a sun dried tomato and basil sauce. The sauce had a slight kick to it, not too spicy at all. The pasta was cooked to al dente. The Clam Pasta came with a creamy wine and basil sauce. Very light and not a heavy dish to make you feel too full. The clams had a nice, fresh briny flavor. This is definitely a restaurant that warrants a return trip. I will try the recommended Lobster Pasta next time. It is only open Tuesday through Saturday so be sure to catch it when it is open. Plenty of parking in the back since it shares the shopping center with Urban Pet and Rite Aid.

I'd give 5 stars for the red cod and the mushroom salad alone .Fanta Sea grill is all about the food ! This is literally a mom and pop joint serving fresh seafood prepared with a homestyle vibe . The lobster with cream sauce was all that I knew it would be . So was the salmon pasta which had a somewhat spicy yet tasty sun dried tomato essence .The star of the show however was the steamed Red Cod and mushroom salad . Both of those dishes were nothing short of amazing . The cod was cooked perfectly and the sauce with these little green olives came together in a way that's just simply to die for. The mushroom salad which is a medley of mushrooms and veggies is sooo delicious and a perfect way to start the meal . If you're in the area give them a try !

My lady and I have been wanting to come here since COVID due to their fantastic reviews on various social media platforms, but this establishment was closed for a long while during COVID. Today we finally had the chance to try, and the overall experience was just so so. While the food was pretty good, it was not as good as we had thought from the rave reviews. The long wait time between food and the use of paper plates was quite off putting. We had to request for the side salad that was supposed to come with the sandwich because the server assumed that we didn't want it since we ordered the 3 mushroom salad. Portion-wise, it was just average... had we just ordered 2 entrees we may still be hungry. Many patrons are Taiwanese, probably to support local Taiwanese mom n pop shops. I am adding an extra star to support as well :)

Today we went to Fanta Sea. First learned about the restaurant back in pandemic. Here are pictures of what we got to try. Lobster pasta set in creamy sauce. Lobster is carefully processed with shells removed/cut, fresh, sweet, and juicy. They worked with us and did a jumbo shrimp and clams combo pasta. Both pastas is in the form of noodles resembling asian noodles like 油面. Both the creamy sause and basil white wine sauce were done just right, we like both and drank both like soups. However not over powering, complements the flavors of each dish very well. I'm very sensitive to both quality of seafood and dairy used in creamy sauce. My stomach approves both! Amazing quality, we'd like to return and try the rest of the menu soon. Last pictures shows the current menu and phone number. Today we got to meet one of the owner/head chef, her name is Grace, and Elvis who helps with running the restaurant. Grace is so kind and knowledgeable, we're so lucky that she got a chance to actually sit down and talk with us about some of her favorite dishes from surrounding restaurants. Her passion for taste and quality is what makes this restaurant so unique. We wish her great health and keep enjoying doing what she does best!

This place has been here for decades as a little hole in the wall that if you blink you will miss it. Sits right outside of rite aid in the small attached shopping center manned by the same family for decades. An assortment of really nicely priced and tasty seafood pastas and their crab tofu burger which is the best. Call ahead as a small family business they are sometimes closed on vacation. The crab tofu burger is worth the try. Very friendly family service.

    They have branzino!!!!!

You know those chef friends who invite you to pop on over and then they ask you if you're hungry and what you'd like to have? Next, they proceed to whip up something amazing in no time flat, and you're floored and offering to wash their car for life if they'll only let you move in? **Poof!** Yeah, me neither, but visiting this cozy little place is just like that. Nestled into a corner of a little shopping nook in South Pasadena, mere paces from Rite Aid, is this little place that's been there for a long while. Quietly serving up stellar and fresh dishes they apparently pull from their very talented sleeves. Even their signage is appealing: an adorable crab with big, soulful eyes. I stopped in there tonight and ordered clam pasta from their "new" menu. I wanted something to take with me to work tomorrow for lunch, and after driving home with the incredible fragrance filling my car, I couldn't take it any longer. I had to open it - just to peek in and maybe have a taste...and then it was all over. I ended up eating most of it. So much for lunch tomorrow! Fresh herbs, super fresh clams, satisfying noodles, umami deliciousness. Like having a talented chef friend who whips up something incredible and fresh in minutes. Bonus: these folks are lovely. Friendly and warm, they engage you like they've known you forever, which is so refreshing. Do visit them, soon. It's a short little menu, and I'm going to order everything on it.

IT's OPEN AGAIN! The restaurant you loved pre-COVID is back and better than ever. I had the mushroom salad. Light yet filling. Delicious. I loved it and can't wait to go back and chow down on the salmon pasta. A cool place with a cool vibe.

    Lobster with noodle !!

My friend and I were looking for a good seafood place to eat , came across this little place in Pasadena!! Restaurant is small but very welcoming!! We asked the owner / chef what she recommended and she said her lobster entree with salad !! OMG !! Excellent perfect seasoning , temperature and taste the best I have had!! And actually reasonable priced!!

Fanta Sea has been opened in South Pasadena for over 20 years, but I found it recently. The owner is a truly food lover, spending her life time enthusiasm and energy on food. It opens only 3 days a week, my husband and I came here twice. Everything here on the menu tastes really good. My husband never ate fish at home, because he hates the fishy smell. He almost ate one fish at here...unbelievable! We would like to highly recommend this little gem to friends, family members and those unknown Yelpers. If you become the regulars, Grace(the owner) will probably make something special for you. LOVE this restaurant, and really appreciate Grace who has been so dedicated to the restaurant business and respectes food with her love.

The restaurant has a nice, natural light filled space, and though it was busy, it wasn't too loud. It worked out well to go with two people so we could try almost all the options... - Scallop aguachile, avocado, salsa macha verde: Came with two shells, each with a little scallop, avocado, zucchini, radish, cilantro. Nice and refreshing to start. - Strawberry and vanilla French toast fingers, pistachio marzipan: A very generous portion of French toast with strawberry jam and pistachio sauce. Nice and crunchy crust. It was an interesting contrast to the aguachile first course! - Crab cake eggs benny: Two poached eggs on crab cakes. This was good, nothing unexpected, though I was getting pretty full at this point. - Summer berries, Scottish shortbread, white chocolate mousseline: This was the only dish we were disappointed by. The shortbread was pretty bland and the texture was lacking crispness. - Profiteroles, vanilla ice cream, strawberry ice cream, hot fudge sauce: Simple dessert but put together well. We both also ordered Purple reign cocktails, which went well with brunch. Overall it ended up being quite a bit of food and a good value for two.

After researching and making the trip to Pasadena numerous times, I never discovered the Pez Coastal Kitchen. I was here for lunch and walked into a small but impressive space, elegantly decorated, with both a dining and bar area. My seating was in the latter, not on bar stools, but at a table for two, because I was dinning solo. For appetizers, I chose the scallop aguachile. There were two small portions, each in a plastic shell, sitting on a bed of ice. While I am not fond of aguachiles because of the general overdose of citrus in them, this one really surprised me. While there were only small pieces of scallop, it had an abundance of small cubed cucumber pieces that provided the nicest contrast of crunch, juice and texture. The citrus was mild and well balanced. A wonderful start. I selected the fried fish burger for my entree. The fish was mildly battered, yet lightly crisp, to highlight the big pieces of fresh, flaky and moist fish that were literally, falling off the burger. It was a good stack, with minimum lettuce, tomato and sauce, so as to not take it away from the star, the succulent, perfectly prepared, flavorful fish. The bun was also well crafted, nice and fluffy on the inside, not dry, with a buttery brown on the outside. Easily one of the best fish burgers I have had. For dessert (the third course), I had to have the profiteroles with ice cream. One was with vanilla, the other with strawberry. Both came topped with dark chocolate sauce, that had hardened by the time of eating. A superbly assembled concoction, that provided the crackle and exhilarating mouth feel. I cannot remember the last time where at a Dine LA restaurant, all three lunch courses were so well presented and satisfying. One was better than the other. Overall, it was worth the drive, for an extraordinary dining experience.

The tuna don had a generous portion of tuna and rice. It tasted fresh and was a simple and well executed dish that satisfies your cravings. The soba noodles were a surprise to me. I didn't expect the soba noodles to be in a sauce with a string sesame oil consistency and taste. It was refreshing yet a bit heavier as a result. I also love the variety of fish provided with it. Overall (5/5): Disclaimer - we came here late April. But this is a gem in Pasadena that we wished we visited sooner! The lunch deals have very generous portions for the price and we were super stuffed after. We also were quite impressed with the execution of the tsukemono which looked like canned vegetables mixed with mushrooms that were pickled together for an unexpectedly rich flavor. The vibes of the establishment are modern and tasteful, and we really liked how spacious it was. Service was also solid. Overall we hope to be back to further explore the menu!

I thought that was a bit odd, but I guess it was to detract from unwelcomed guests (i.e. homless people)? Anyhow, we were seated right away and sat by the window which was nice! We were given the menus, but I had to specifically ask for the DineLA menu which I also thought was a bit odd since it seemed like they wanted us to order off their regular menu. Perhaps this was just an oversight. For starters, we ordered 1 of each that was offered: Ceviche Carretillero - Refreshing and brought me back to time spent in Peru! I preferred this option Salpicon - This was also refreshing and reminded me of chicken salad mix in a bowl though not sure I would order it without it being a part of a prix fixe. For the main course, we ordered: Saltado Salad - This had minimal protein and was not so satisfying when compared to a traditional lomo saltado, but the protein that was there was yummy. Aji Gallina - I really was excited to see this on their menu since I love this dish so much and don't see it offered too often at Peruvian restaurants. Though the sauce was good, the chicken was VERY dry and hard to chew (overcooked) so it took a while to finish this. In lieu of desserts, they offered Maracuya (passion fruit) and Chicha Morada (purple corn) juices which were yummy but the star of the show was their sangria which was delicious especially on a hot day. My only complaint about the sangria was that we were charged for 3 carafes when we only got 2. Once we identified this, we brought it up and just went ahead and enjoyed the 3rd one since we had already settled the bill. That being said, always double check your receipt!

Everything was delicious. The lobster roll comes with regular fries or seasoned fries. We had seasoned fries. The pan roast comes with your choice of spicy level. Depending on your taste, you can have it very spicy or none at all. The flavor of the pan roast was very good. I had mine medium spicy level. If it is too spicy, you cannot get the real taste of the dish. The restaurant is nice and clean. Service staff were friendly. This place is located at a very busy plaza where there are many restaurants. There is underground parking but it can be a problem during peak hours.

New Orleans inspired menu, had a DJ on a Friday night for vibes, service was normal…read more Pan roast was delicious, could use more seafood flavor but certainly a comforting meal. Creamy and tomato-y. Shrimp was cooked well but the mussels were a bit overcooked. Would probably get the shrimp one next time instead of house specialty. Shrimp and grits: shrimp was overcooked, grits were fine. Super cheesy! Oyster poboy: pretty good. Oyster isn't my first choice but it was done well. Came with fries but we upgraded to the clam chowder. It was only ok. Chowda tots: fries and tots were very crispy, cooked perfectly. Toppings though made it more like a salsa or loaded potato. Nothing about it felt like chowder.

Saw this place in a TikTok video for "top 5 black owned fried fish spots" and since my friend and I…read morehave been on a mission to find the best fried catfish in LA, we headed over to Pasadena to check it out. Fish was good but service not so much. My friend went in before me because I was taking a video wanted to shout them out on social media but when I walked in the man looked up at me stared for a little bit and went back to loading the fish. I stood there looking at the menu he still never said anything. I finally walked over to my friend and asked if he acknowledged him when he came in and he said yes. I was ready to walk out but he wanted to stay. We decided on what we wanted and walked over to order and I swear it felt like he didn't want to hear what I had to say it was almost like I shouldn't be speaking let the man order and handle it. If that wasn't the case it's definitely the vibe I got. I asked him could he fry my fish hard he mumbled something and looked to my friend for his order. Guest what my fish wasn't fried hard......Lol Overall the food was good and prices were great but the service will keep me from returning.

The gentleman taking my order was kind, but overall service from order to take away was slower than I anticipated. I was sad as I was really craving curry goat, but apparently they sold out 10 min before I arrived, which was at 7pm. Not many places to sit and eat within the market or outside so that was a bummer. If they put some extra money into the market by sprucing up the aesthetics and adding more tables and chairs, I think that this place would do even better. I would recommend calling in your order ahead of time before heading over to save yourself the wait.
