I have been to Farmer boy many times, for breakfast mostly. I will get classic bacon and eggs or an omelet and always enjoy. Today I wanted to try something different. I went for the biscuit chicken sliders and was very disappointed. The gravy was flavorless and had very little sausage. The chicken was also bland. I ate just enough to get full. Food was great, didn't care about our little 6lb Maltese pup in my jacket, wife loved the mimosa ( history after that ), and I ordered some strange version of a corn beef and hash that was better than any corn beef and hash without the same ingredients? Service was terrific! We placed our name on the waitlist online and requested outdoor seating. We waited five minutes and were seated. I recommend adding your name before arriving. My friend and I had a lovely experience yesterday at Farmer Boy. We arrived around 9:30 and were seated after a couple minutes. We both asked if we could order customized scrambles and they happily obliged. The food was absolutely amazing and the fruit was super fresh. I give this place 4 stars for the price and the generous portions. But I give 3.5 stars for the service and food. This is a local breakfast restaurant in Santa Barbara. It's a classic diner type of breakfast joint. The wait was about 30 min to get seated. We ordered the country sausage omelette, egg bendict, small appetite breakfast with silver dollar pancakes, the Santa Barbara scramble and the cinnamon roll. We were hoping to share the cinnamon roll as a dessert after our meals but it came first which was fine. However Unfortunately we were very disappointed as all I hear about is how amazing their cinnamon rolls were. It was over baked so it was hard. I think they reheated the cinnamon roll with the frosting so you can see that the frosting was a bit toasted. The small center was soft so that made it edible. It didn't seem like a fresh one for sure. It's definitely not the best cinnamon roll, just average. I wanted to tell the server to give us a new one but my family didn't want to deal with it and just ate it. As for the rest of our food it was good. My hash browns were crispy which is what I had requested. The sausage with carmelized onions had a lot of flavor in the omelette. The Santa Barbara scramble was tasty. Egg Benedict was standard nothing special. And the small appetite breakfast was standard , can't go wrong with that and the bacon was thick and crispy. Service was lacking a bit. It took awhile to get more water and to pay the bill. Not sure if this is typical because the restaurant was full of customers or just an off day. I may return to give it 1 more try but with so many yummy restaurants in Santa Barbara, we'll see. read more

You will get a kick out of this one...Be 100% sure what you order, because they will not change the order even after 10 seconds. My son ordered something, then my brother ordered something, and my son asked to change his order. The waiter said no as he "already sent the order in" this all happened in a matter of seconds. The Baja fish tacos here is one of my favorite places for it. It's so hard to find decent Baja style fish tacos in Santa Barbara but glad it's near by my place and they have it for taco Tuesday. The fish is decent sized to the tortilla and their sauce is pretty good. I've tried other stuff here the last time I came and really liked it as well. I'm definitely coming back here for their Baja fish tacos on Tuesdays when I'm craving it. I'm also definitely coming back to try their meatloaf Monday and some pies. read more

New to Santa Barbara in general, the name and yelp reviews caught my attention. I am a breakfast person, so went for it. Short wait, too cold to sit outside but everyone was nice. The inside is what I would expect from a diner. Coffee was good enough, and offers to refill are often. Pancakes were solid, I use a 1-5 rating system for cakes - not fancy cakes just good ol fashioned pancakes and these were a in the 4 ballpark. Eggs were decent, bacon was too crispy/burned although my request so good2know. My son had chilaquiles, with green salsa. Not authentic for me, red salsa is but with pork and he loved them. It was a very generous portion! All in all, i have been back on numerous occasions and it is a good breakfast. read more

Just had a fantastic breakfast at Farmer Boy! First off, the service was excellent! Gina was kind, attentive and such a great server. Then the food... so good! I had simple eggs, bacon, pancakes and hash browns. Each of them were really good. The coffee was no your average cup, it tasted like I make at home. Lastly, they have great ventilation. So we're from LA and come to this diner because it had great reviews. I sat in some dude named Gilberts seat. "How did you know?" You may ask condescendingly - well my bar stool had his name on a thing. I felt his spirit on my meal. I actually sat next to another dude who came by himself and I thought it could be the ghost of Gilbert watching me to see if I was worthy. 1st tip - you definitely need to make a reservation through yelp because the wait time on Sunday was at least an hour. 2nd tip is that this place is like a time capsule that throws you back into 1965 without any racism. I guarantee that the food is fresh and they seem to actually care if you like it. It's definitely priced at a reasonable level and the portions are hefty. I wish they could transport this place to somewhere in LA, but I know if they tried they would just end up with a bathroom that has random losers tagging the mirrors. We stayed at the Upham so it wasn't that far of a drive, and quite honestly the people there are so friendly that it wouldn't have mattered if it was. 10/10 would recommend. This is a great place that not a lot of people know about. We try to go here on Saturday mornings, and we go early when they first open to get a booth. The staff is SO kind! I will say that they used to have really good hashbrowns and was told that it's because they had butter in them, they would come out golden and crispy but the last 4-5 times we ate there, the hashbrowns were really cold, soggy, somewhat burnt yet yucky inside. I think they changed their recipe or chef. Eitherway, it was one reason we loved going there. I hope they bring back the old hashbrowns or train their cook correctly. read more

Staying at Motel6 we had the choice of multiple places. One had a picture of a ham steak. No go. We went all the way to the mall where a bakery blasted French music. This being a cold, wet morning - rare in SB - we settled for Farmer Boy as the best option. Friendly, very good food, sit outside under the arcades with heater. Extremely attentive service - especially considering that one person ran the whole show of a filled diner "all of Santa Barbara came today" he said. No argument when the banana was past it's prime. Finally tried this local's favorite diner-style restaurant after two years of living in SB. I ordered the chicken fried biscuit sliders, pancakes with bananas and berries, and a cinnamon roll. We were staying nearby so stopped in for breakfast. There's a hostess stand out front, but they were so busy, that we had to wait 5+ minutes for someone to help us. We had our pup with us. They had to check something and actually let us sit inside. Way in the back, near the bathrooms, but that's cool. Our dog just lay underneath the table and she's not bark-y at all so so one even knew she was there. They do have 4 tables in the front but they were all taken. We arrived inside to chaos. There were a couple of wait staff busting their butts and hustling and sweating through their shirts - cleaning tables, bussing, setting up knew tables, bringing out food, etc. I'm always glad to see that the service staff values people's time. Anyways we got the Santa Barbra local omelet and the classic pancake combo. And coffee and juice. Food did take a bit to come out. But it was solid and delicious. I really enjoyed the pancake, which was light and fluffy. Eggs and the meat were solid too. We paid and then got out of there so they could turn the table over. What a great local joint on State Street in Santa Barbara. Has a down to earth feel and busy busy busy. The service is a little haphazard but that is part of the charm of this place. The food is good old fashioned diner breakfast and lunch. Stick to your ribs classics. Never had an issue with the food, portion size, temperature or presentation. The only reason for 4 stars is an issue with our last visit. The milk for our coffee had half a sugar packet sleeve stuck to the inside wall. Scary how long it could have been there and it was a bit gross. We informed the guy leading the server team and coffee/milk were quickly replaced. Fortunately we saw it before consuming our coffee. I am going to call it a fluke and will not impact my next visit. Overall, a great breakfast spot with an old diner feel. read more

The service is 200% better than the food, which scores about 85%. The only cooked correctly was the egg (just the egg only) and the hash browns. Everything else was made on the cheap, the toast was cheap bread, the butter was cheap as well.
