I really really really try not to eat drive-thru fast food places, ie: McDonald's, Burger King ( places like that) I'd rather go to a Tom's # zillion or a Ma' & Pa' short of burger joint. So when I was in Irwindale for some Rose Bowl Parade Preparations, I noticed Farmer boy and thought that's an interesting name, so I wanted to see what it was. First off when you walk in it's reminds me of a large country style living room kitchen, with the chicken curtains and oak table seating. The menu was extensive but apparently this place is know for their burgers, at least that's what the Best of Los Angeles FOX 11 poster noted for " The Burgers" of 2009. Geez what to order? Another thing I liked to make it seem less "fast foodish" is that they serve you your food at your table, and unlike the McDonald's literally next door, here at Farmer Boys they ask you how you would like your burger cooked. This review is for the French Fries and hamburger. The fries were mushy and tasteless. I mean, how hard is it to cook french fries and add a little seasoning?. The burger patty looked like a cow patty that had been well run over many times, in the middle of the road. It too was tasteless. I don't understand how so many fast food joints do such a poor job of cooking food. Maybe the owners need to actually visit one of their stores and sample the food. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with Farmer Boys. My mom and I shared a veggie burger with fried zucchini and a salad. The veggie burger was pretty good and even though the zucchini are the larger quarter size ones the batter stayed on really well, the zucchini was cooked through all the way and was not too greasy like you have at places like the county fair. Service was nice, food was pretty good, the salad was normal, something you can make at home with so so ingredients, but all in all it was decent. read more

I just came to this location at 9:45 and they are closed but there is still 15 minutes left on the clock. I'm not the type to yelp this but they looked like they have been closed since 9:30 maybe even sooner I do not think this is professional. They should work on that. This location is truly the best location I have gone to other locations yes the food is good but this one is much better and very consistent bacon so is well chrispy and thicker then the other locations. i met my dad here for breakfie this morning. i was a first timer, but my dad said he's a fan. :) if you've never been here before, it's one of those places where you walk in, order, sit down, and they bring you your food. i had bacon and eggs and an iced tea. i asked for burnt bacon, and it was chewy. the hash browns were super buttery, as was the toast. my eggs, however, were cooked to perfection! ;) they have a drive thru- the cashier was nice-it was fine. my breakfast was under $7, and my dad had bisuits with sausage gravy (under $5). Our total was under $15 (we both had iced tea). why 2 stars? -1. the ladies bathroom door didn't lock -2. i was forced to use the men's room (i had a long drive), and the bathroom was NASTY! -3. our table was sticky. for what it is, and for the pricing, it was alright. will i go back? let's just say i won't dispute if my dad suggests the place again. but will i request farmer boys? no. read more

I have been to several other Farmer Boys (in Northridge, Tulare, on Arrow Highway) and I would rate them 5 stars for cleanliness and food. Today I stopped at this location on Irwindale Ave. and went in and right back out, First the entry door was grubby with greasy fingerprints all over the glass. Very bad first impression. Needed to use the restroom, went in and right back out and left the restaurant. Restroom was filthy too This is the dirtiest Farmer Boys I have ever seen and is a disgrace to the rest of the chain. Had lunch here today, we waited almost 6 mins at the front counter to be waited on. No one ever greeted us. The manager was too busy with drive thru. If you know lunch gets busy, over staff for a couple hours. The salads had very little lettuce, and the burgers had no flavor. Worst "fast" food experience of my life... if I could give zero stars I would. Why? Because we sat inside the restaurant waiting for food on a slow Sunday morning for FORTY MINUTES before we asked for our money back and left. No food served to us in forty minutes despite checking in at the twenty minute mark and being told "they're working on it." Even more frustrating that others in the restaurant were getting served food AND THEY OPERATE A DRIVE THRU... how can burgers at a burger joint take 40 minutes to cook if you're able to serve customers at the drive thru in a reasonable time? No employees there could do anything but mumble perfunctory apologies and try to avoid making eye contact. If I were the manager of this location I would be cleaning house and hiring new staff that know the basics of operating a restaurant and customer service because your quality ingredients are worthless if you can't get food to your customers in less than forty minutes. I've eaten here many times before and all good, not great but good. This last time will be my last. The table was sticky and tacky. When I asked for a wet rag to wipe it they stared at me with a blank stare. The food showed up cold and not the way I ordered it. The fries were literally not cooked. We come here fairly often as our go to place when we can't thing of something. It's ok, plenty of food in your plate although pricey. I wish the zucchini were cut smaller. I had expectations that this would be a better restaurant than a typical fast food place since it was more quick-serve than fast food with the food being assembled and cooked when ordered. I had the fish sandwich and it wasn't very good. The ingredients seemed reasonably fresh but the batter on the fish was absolutely disgusting. The taste was off-putting and very oily. It was of such poor quality that it gave me gastric stasis. The sandwich sat in my stomach for four hours after eating it. I gave their food a chance and they failed to even slightly impress me. i think farmer boys is one of those places where there are only a few items any one person would like eating.. for me, their clam chowder is actually pretty ok and so is their cobb salad.. their burgers, fries and onion rings are very soso.. their chili is ok too, it's a heavy and somewhat salty chili meant to be put over fries or whatever else.. one thing that isn't so great is their fish and chips meal.. omg it was so bland when i had it.. of course, everything is fried but i didn't expect it to be as greasy as it was.. as least flavor it to mask all the oil.. the tartar sauce barely helped.. the plus though is they use real fish.. that was actually quite impressive parking is in the same plaza as the mcdonalds.. somewhat lower car friendly but i'd rather park on the street which is a cul de ball sac read more

We tried the all natural avocado bacon cheeseburger, it was great. The patty was thick and not dry, the only problem was they put what seems like an entire onion in the burger. (Easily fixed) I love the option of the combo pick two where you can get onion rings and zucchini. read more

I wish there was a Farmer Boys closer to my place, this is the Farmer Boy's I go since it's the one that is the easiest to get to, and it's not in a busy, kind of ghetto area since I know there is a Farmer Boys by Downtown LA. The burgers are good here, and are big also, I usually get either the Farmer Burger which is pretty big, or The Natural Avocado Bacon Cheeseburger, and I get those without cheese since I don't really like American Cheese that much. I also sometimes get the shakes here, and they are good I've tried the Cookies n Cream and the Real Strawberry shake, and the Onion Rings here are huge also. The only downside is that this is kind of far from my place, I wish there was one closer so I don't have to go here to Irwindale just for Farmer Boys. read more
