I have eaten at the Star for close to 50 years. The main attraction for me were their double cheese burgers and pastrami. It's been about a year since I've had their pastrami so my wife and I purchased pastrami this afternoon. The size hadn't changed however the taste was not as expected. It tasted of Sriracha. The hot sauce must have been added to the cooking liquid. The flavor and especially the heat made our food in- eatable. We could only eat 25% of the sandwich. Service was good but if they had shared the fact of the heat, we could have ordered other food, such as their cheeseburgers. read more

Been going to this place since we were little, when they were on the corner of Ramona and main. We now live like 2 hours away and it's a must stop when we are in the area! I have been looking for a decent mom and pop burger place and I think this place is the best place that I have found so far. Got the double cheeseburger combo with an orange bang. The cheeseburger was delicious and the fries were freshly fried. I like burger places that make their burgers with shredded lettuce and thousand island sauce. The burger could have been seasoned a little bit more but I would rather have under seasoned food than over seasoned food because you can always add more seasoning. It is a clean and well lit place that just recently reopened for in person dining. The family who runs the restaurant and the line cooks are all super friendly too. The prices are very reasonable and the amount of food is, as others have written, quite hearty. I am a sucker for the combo 1 which is fries, a drink, and a hamburger with cheese (also known as a cheeseburger...). Service is quick and the food is piping hot. It seems like this spot has a lot of regulars and has garnered a well desevred spot in the community. I usually eat here once a month and it hits the spot.
