I know airport restaurants tend to get a bad rap, for good reason, but Farmerbrown is the exception! I've had a handful of meals here and I've never been disappointed. They specialize in southern grub and it's pretty darn good! The mac 'n cheese is amazing. Love the shells and the gooey, melty cheese served in a mini cast iron skillet. The fried chicken is also delicious, despite being dry on one occasion. And don't skip the corn bread and don't be shy about smearing that thing with honey butter. For drink I've only ever gotten the sauv blanc which I love. It's a pretty big space with lots of seating, including a very long bar with lots of TVs. It's also the only sit-down restaurant in the terminal, so it gets pretty busy and it often has a line, but it goes fast. Service is super quick (as is the food) so they make sure you don't miss your flight. read more

Stopped in for a quick bit to take on the plane. The sign said soul food so I took a second look. Decided on chicken wings and the honey butter cornbread. Excellent choices. The chicken was crispy and seasoned well. It was still good 2 hours into my plane ride when I decided to eat it. Definitely recommend for a quick airport bite to eat. read more

The visuals draw you in.Your hungry and would like to eat something before your flight. We stood in line for 25 minutes waiting for an empty table. The strange thing is that there were at least 12 empty tables! I figure it this way, they tire you out by making you wait eons, before they even acknowledge that your even there! Then once that happens, they will tell you it will be just a few more minutes that's after you you look at each other for 20 minutes, shifting the weight from leg to leg. Staring at all those empty tables. Finally my wife and I are seated, I order a 3 piece fried chicken with fries.The flavor was very good. But since I took the photos at close range it appears that the meal is much larger than it really is. Those were some of the smallest pieces of chicken I have ever seen! The prices aren't just high, they are crazy high! $40 + for this and a salad with nothing on it! I made the mistake of not eating before leaving home. I won't make that mistake again anytime soon. We ate here before our flight. We were seated quickly. Ot took a while for us to put an order in. There was barely anyone in the restaurant at the time. We were there around 10:30 pm, so it was fairly slow. After we ordered, our food came like 20-25 min. later. Although I will say our server was nice and friendly, the overall service was slow. You order first then take a number to your table (if your eating in). Expect a bit of slow service, the bartender is also the person you order with (dude is working hard). There seems to be a line before I got there. Food comes out a a timely manner. Kinda wish there was more dressing for my salad. Overall, the food hit the spot (when I was here for a layover). Im not sure how long this place has been around or how much longer it'll be there, but breakfast is disgusting. I didn't know it was possible for anyone to mess up breakfast ... until I ate here. I should've known right away this was a bad idea. As soon as we ordered, the waitress walked away and the server was standing there with the food. Obviously that couldn't have been ours because we literally just ordered. So the server kept walking back and forth. The couple seated next to us hadn't ordered yet, everyone else in our row was already eating, so logically it was for our table. The food was COLD. We had to wait for a while before the waitress made her way back to our table. Keep in mind, we're still waiting for our tea. She comes back, we let her know the food is cold. I also asked if they could warm the cornbread bcuz it felt like it just came out of the fridge. She told me the cornbread is going to stay cold because that's the way it comes. I asked AGAIN (bcuz what do you mean "it comes that way"?!?) if it was possible for them to put it in the oven for a little bit so it could warm up. She said she'd ask but she didn't know if that was possible. WTH?!? Apparently other folks were sending their food back as well. With the breakfast menu as small as it is, this experience led me to believe that all the food is pre-made and waiting for the orders to come in. As soon as the order pops up on the screen, they throw it on a plate and here it comes! Nasty, cold food. I had to keep asking for cream for my tea. By the time she brought it, the tea was on the verge of being lukewarm. She immediately brought the bill and told us she needed to go on her break. With that, she pulled it up on the screen, stood over us, said thanks for the tip then walked away. I didn't even get a chance to ask for salt/pepper to season the nasty a** eggs. I had to ask the host to bring me some salt. Ohhh btw, even after the food was reheated it still wasn't good. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and that grossness ruined my entire day. Who said airport food has to suck? I just had a great airport food experience at SFO: We were looking for dining options, and there were not many. We walked by FarmerBrown, but because of the name we thought it was salads and healthy stuff, so we kept walking. There were only a sub place and a coffee shop, so we came back and looked at their menu. Southern Food?! -Yes, please! The Place: FarmerBrown is by the 40's gates on terminal 3. They have table and bar seating; the restaurant is average size. A Waiter took us to a 2-people table, and I found it surprisingly roomy. In my photos, you can appreciate how our food was not cramped, and we had plenty of space. The Food: It was Friday afternoon, and we had dinner. We had the two house specials: "Southern fried chicken" + two sides: cornbread and Mac & Cheese. My husband had the "BBQ baby back ribs," with cornbread and coleslaw. Of course, I had one of the ribs and got to try it! The food I think was delicious! It came out in less than 15 mins. My chicken was juicy and it tasted pretty good. Cornbread was a little dry but had a great flavor. Mac & cheese was not my favorite, but I ate it all. It was good; the cheese got hard fast that's why I did not love it. The ribs were tender and fell off the bone. The BBQ Sauce and coleslaw were yummy. We accompanied the food with beers, but they have cocktails and a full bar. The Service: We had a good service experience. Our waiter checked on us constantly. I needed some ketchup, and he brought it right away. The food came out super fast and so did the check. This is exactly what you would expect for an airport restaurant. Although the design on the place is beautiful, the food was extremely disappointing. The food is very expensive ($16-$18) for absolutely nothing. 1/4 of a strawberry, a slice of orange, a few pieces of egg and very stale cornbread. I initially just wanted to grab something from next door, but my husband thought it would be nice to just sit and dine (not knowing that it's actually the same company, only one side is more of a sit down experience and the other is a takeout). We were thoroughly disappointed in this establishment. Everything we ordered did not come out good regarding presentation, size or temperature, but we could not even let the server know our concerns as he did not check on us till the very end, when we had already finished our meal. All the food was cold. The Mac an cheese we ordered for the kids was a smaller portion than the side Mac (the kids sized was more expensive). The cheese was not properly melted. It was cold. I ordered the Farmer's Cobb and was told to go with the fried chicken because it's what they're known for. It came out dry, cold and looked like it was refried to bring the temperature up, although it was still cold. The worst was my husband's, who ordered the BBQ baby pork ribs. As you'll see from the photo, it doesn't even look like BBQ ribs (no sauce)!! He had asked for a substitution of sweet potatoes instead of fries. Sweet potatoes looked sad and he did not get his coleslaw All in all, we felt we had no choice but to finish what's in front of us as it took so long for our food too come out in the first place. The only reason for a star (aside from Yelp not allowing 0 stars) is their hot sauce and the server took the ribs off our bill, but even he acknowledged it didn't look right. If he knew, he shouldn't have served the food. Unless they really improve, we will not be coming back. It was the worst meal we've had during our visit in SFO. *Tip: order from next door. The photgraph on the sign outside included fried chicken, but the fried chicken box contained only strips/tenders. What a letdown. And very bland. Not a lot of options here at Terminal 1 and this is the only sit-down place. It looks pretty fancy and clean from the outside. Not a lot of food options on the menu, but tons of alcohols if you'd prefer. My husband and I needed breakfast and we ordered Farmer's Plate - Scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacons and some clementines. Honestly, no one should really expect much since it's basically airport food, but still with this place being sorta pricey. The service was great. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. However, the food was just meh. My scrambled eggs were super cold, but the potatoes were super hot -- like microwave hot. Loved the bacon, but it was also quite cold. My coffee was alright and they didn't have almond milk, just soy milk and regular milk. Again, not a lot of options here. Our bill was around $40 plus tax. Probably would just go to three twins to get a pastry next time since it's cheaper. read more

Our last meal before getting back home. Good service and the waiter was very nice. The Southern fried chicken comes with mac and cheese and salad as side dishes. The fried chicken was very crispy, moist and cook to perfection. It was delicious. The mac and cheese was very cheesy and the salad was also good. The salad wasn't my favorite, but it helped reduce the greasy chicken. The chicken and anduile gumbo comes with cornbread. We took the bowl size and it was a perfect portion to share. The gumbo was very good and not to salty. The rice was cook very well, and wasn't overcook. I don't usually like cornbread because it's very dry, but this one was moist and sweet. Southern food is always heavy and delicious. If you're on a diet, skip this restaurant because it's mostly fried food if not, then it's probably smothered in butter. It's the airport so I wasn't expecting too much but the food here was disappointing for the price. I am writing this at the restaurant after finishing my breakfast. The service is friendly and the food comes out very quickly. Perhaps too quickly because the scrambled eggs might have been premade already since they tasted rubbery, over cooked and slightly burnt. I ordered the Farmers Plate with scrambled eggs, county potatoes, corn bread, turkey sausage and orange slices. The best item sadly were the potatoes. The cornbread was dry and crumbly and the turkey sausage also tasted rubbery. Luckily work is paying for this meal but this place is disappointing. Had a long layover and saw Farmer Brown's outpost at SFO and thought it would be a great idea to revisit and have some authentic, but elevated San Francisco soul food. I remember when owner and chef Jay Foster open his place in the city in the tenderloin back in around 2005 or 2006. I still have an old newspaper article from the San Francisco chronicle where he graciously provided his recipe for fried chicken. I was expecting a real treat, Farmer Brown. This place may have the name, but is not the same restaurant. I ordered the fried Chicken Po boy, and what arrived was basically a fried chicken sandwich, on a round bun, not a traditional po boy bun, with pretty slim fixins - a slice of tomato, afew sliced rings of raw onion. The chicken was fried pretty well and very moist inside and super crispy on the outside. But the bun - no. I think it was supposed to be an egg bun, and it was very stale and tasteless. No way I was going to wreck what was salvageable of the fried chicken by including two-thirds of its weight in an inedible bun. I got rid of the bun and asked for more than the tiny dollop of remoulade sauce that had barely made it onto the sandwich. It came with lackluster fries and a fairly nondescript coleslaw. Wondering what the hell was going on, I Googled Farmer Brown and found that the flagship restaurant closed last year but they have this place at the airport, but which is run by one of the airport concessionaires. Owner Foster is quoted as saying that this place is now what's left of carrying on the Farmer Brown legacy. I wish he'd stop into this place, because he's going to find out his legacy is not in good hands. This isn't soul food. With the exception of the piece of fried chicken being done well, It's not even good ordinary fast food. At eighteen bucks a plate airport prices, this bites. read more

We found the food at Farmerbrown in Terminal 1 at SFO quite worthy for airport fare. Both DH and I were hungry after weathering a long Friday evening trip on BART and the "soul food" of Farmerbrown fit the bill. Farmerbrown took over the space vacated by Perry's and has a nice modern update. Seems more spacious. We asked to be seated on the "patio" area as we had quite a few carry-on items and the tables for two in the interior area are rather close to each other. It took a while to finally get the attention of a waiter. By then we had both settled on the pulled pork po'boys which came on nice buns with a side of decent cole slaw. A bit of a kick to the pulled pork. We both liked our sandwiches a lot, and I surprised myself by finishing the whole sandwich. DH enjoyed his side of fries, although to my mind the fries were quite pale, not golden. And for the price of the sandwich the serving of fries seemed on the skimpy side. I went the healthy route by substituting a side salad for the fries. Mistake! The side salad was a small mound of spring green mix. Only one option for salad dressing. The draft beers were all 22 ounces, and DH was quite pleased with his Alcatraz brew. I was equally happy with a domestic sauvignon blanc. Farmerbrown was near our Delta gate. I expect we will be visiting Farmerbrown before future flights as we like a relaxing meal when we have time to kill before a long flight. read more

I was pleasantly surprised to see Farmerbrown at SFO in Terminal 1 near my gate for a Delta flight. The wait wasn't long and I was seated pretty quickly. My order was taken promptly and I didn't wait long for my drinks or food to come out. So as far as service around 3 pm on a Thursday, well done! The front porch iced tea was sweet and strong, definitely fulfilled a southern girl's expectation of sweet tea (with bourbon). I also really enjoyed the jalapeño coleslaw, although I didn't taste any spice or jalapeño. The honey butter corn bread was perfectly crumbly yet moist and sweet. The chicken and andouille jambalaya had a nice kick and good flavor, but was noticeably LACKING on the chicken and andouille. A lot of liquid, a healthy amount of okra and tomato, a few grains of rice, and just not enough meat. It was an overall good experience. read more
