Amazing flavors! For the price you pay, I'd say its well worth it. It's hidden inside of Post Alley. The owner was very pleasant and patient. I was completely indecisive, but he waited patiently. He even offered suggestions and was never rude or annoyed that I couldn't decide. I ordered the Beef Kabob and the Lamb Burger (burger was to-go). You can't get a lamb burger anywhere in Downtown/Belltown area for less then $10. The Beef Kabob was so tender and tasty. You can also do half a salad and half rice if you don't want all rice - the owner warned me that it is a lot of rice. They have a counter that seats 2-3 and a few small tables that can seat 2 or 3 - very cozy with 3 at the table. I'll definitely be back to try other dishes. read more

Delicious and such a great price! There's nothing fancy about this place. We stumbled upon this place after we passed up the menu at another place. It's kinda hard to find in the market but totally worth it! The menu is pretty straightforward. The gal taking our order was very helpful in describing certain dishes. I chose the beef and my friend chose the lamb. Both were full of flavor. I don't usually eat rice but decided to try it with this dish. I could eat saffron rice every day now. So, so good. This cafe is a pleasant spot to pull in while strolling the Market region. The family staff (ma & pa + daughter?) is rather mellow, low-key yet friendly and nice. I looked over and got the Borani Eggplant up at the bar counter. Usually they ask to pay when you order but I asked about may get more food later. She talked to pop's and it was ok. My lunch was good. It came with warmed bread (probably microwaved in sight, but was good enough - not too dry at all) and the mixture medley of eggplant, et al. Some scoopin', some dippin' & down she goes. It _may_ be nice with a rice side, too, just a thought. After that, I get the day's special, Lamb Burger, to-go sans the soda. This was good, as well. I'm sorry to report that I can no longer recommend this place. My family and I went here on Mother's Day only to discover they are under new ownership. My ghormeh sabzi was terrible. It was brown -- I should be green. And it was drowning in oil. There was a generic sour flavor but nothing like the complex flavors that are the heart and soul of this special dish. The beans were not kidney beans. I've never been more disappointed in a ghormeh sabzi. I ate less than half and did not want to take leftovers but my husband didn't want to seem rude so he had them box it up. His and my kids' Kebab and kotlet sandwiches were mediocre. I'm sad. We'd seek out this little hole in the wall whenever we went to Pike Place market. It was our little hidden secret. I'll go again in 6 months or so, but for now, I'd say the new management needs to figure out some menu issues. It also took a long time for our food. Hidden behind the Pike Market where it was super crowded. We saw the extremely long line for the Pike Chowder place and decided to walk away and explore other options, I honestly don't remember being this crowded last time I was visiting, but then again being Labor Day weekend probably didn't help a whole lot either. Lamb burger and lentil barley soup were both delicious, love the story behind their name and the honest way to conduct business, too many greedy businesses that up charge everything!! How I heard of this place: Newly established, only nine months prior, this Middle Eastern addition to the Post Alley dining establishments was found simply by walking through the crowdless space in search of lumpia. Type of cuisine: Persian cuisine, including kabobs, rice and traditionally popular khoreshts, with a handful of sides and bottled/canned beverages. Ambiance: Quaint and new, this cranberry-plum-colored space is perfectly situated in a corner spot with plenty of seating. The entirety of corner counter space being used to showcase beverages, the cash register and barquette seating, the space inside can be completely dedicated to the extensive, clean kitchen. Brightly lit, despite the lack of natural lighting, a friendly Persian man stops what he is doing at the stove to greet us kindly and give us a run-down of menu items. What I ordered: Only two hours away from our dinner reservations, we decided to break our walk from Seattle's Great Wheel to the Sculpture Garden and back with lemonades ($2 each) all around! What I loved: Slightly sweet, slightly tart, a refreshing afternoon pick-me-up for the sun-laden walkers. Why I loved it: The space is quaint, clean and serves all of my favorites from childhood. The food is pretty good if you know what to order , I would stick to chicken and beef kabab. They are pretty good with half salad and half rice dish being my favorite. Rice has a nice flavor. I have ate a lot of Persian food in my life. A lot of Koobideh in Glendale, CA which is the Persian food hub of LA. So when I saw this. I was quite disappointed. The koobideh was flat almost like a gyro. I've never seen anything like that! Did they put it through a pasta maker? Lol! I'm used to a fluffy thicker tube like kabob right off the skewer. This was not that at all. The taste was ok. But nothing great. The rice seemed like yesterday's rice just re-heated in the microwave. Not the fresh fluffy and butter basmati rice I'm used to at legit Persian places. Very disappointing! Tucked away in a corner of the Pike Place market, I went with some co-workers to take someone out for a celebratory lunch. This was pretty decent. I got the fessenjon. Not the best I have ever had, but good. The chicken is all cut up into pieces. That might not appeal to some. My prior experience with it is with whole pieces of chicken, usually on the bone. This was not that. The sauce was good but lacked some of the richer texture and depth and darker color from being simmered for hours. We sort of "shared' the hummus appetizer plate. It was good and not the type of smooth textured puree you might expect. And by shared I mean the three people I went with had a few bites each and then I plowed through the rest myself. Dude, where I come from, you snooze you lose. They had their chances. The chickpeas were coarser and had a nice texture. The pita it came with was okay. Don't get me wrong. I liked the place. A lot. This is a must visit place even though it is tucked away. They have a wonderful vegetarian dish with rice, spices and beans that I have eaten many times and I absolutely LOVE IT!. The owner is a fantastic person. Most recently I ordered the wrong dish by mistake and after I realized my mistake he made me the one I wanted for no extra charge even though it was my fault. After discovering Farvahar Persian Café walking distance from my work I am SO HAPPY. I've gotten the chicken both times. You can do full salad, half salad/half rice, or do what you ACTUALLY want and get full rice. Also price point - 10$ is a STEAL for Persian food in Washington, and it's a STEAL for ANY food in the market. Maybe it was my choice of food but I was disappointed with the food and the service. And I usually love all foods. Ate here for lunch and ordered the "fresh" mahi polo. It was priced at $8.85 but was charged $10.75the salmon came out of the freezer in a little package and was microwaved for five minutes, salted with some red seasoning and then grilled. There was a ton of rice and no veggies. And when I finally ate the salmon takeaway ten minutes later, it was hard and sooo salty. Incidentally, I had asked the guy why it was so expensive and not fresh and he said "none of the fish around here is fresh" and said his sign was wrong. Persian/Iranian Cuisine, got the best of my Culinary mindset and decided to give it a try. A tiny, and unassuming cafe tucked within the heart of the Public Market. The place is run by a very accomadating Middle Eastern gentleman along w/ his mom. We talked for a few mins., and then got to the heart of the menu. Well balanced items of entrees, salads, sandwiches, and of course the ubiquitous sweet I have come to love...BAKLAVA. One dish that stood out from the entire menu caught my eye, FESENJAN, priced @ $8.25. Basically, it's shredded chicken meat, that has been sauteed to a crisp, w/ chopped walnuts & a sauce that is sweet & sour made from pomegranates....as we 808 peepz back in Hawaii would say....HO! BROKE DA MOUTH! For you mainlanders that do not understand pidgin english, that's another word for DELISH! That was accompanied by lemon scented long grain rice and house made lemonade, all totalling up to less thatn $12. Some would say the prices are a little expensive, but for me, it was well worth the find to come to a place like Cafe Farvahar. Business owners are very friendly and share their passion of their native foods to us here in Seattle. If they had a smaller main portion with a small side, it would be better. - Prices are high. Came here for the vegetarian other half, ordered the eggplant sauce with pita, but I'm guessing the white cold sauce made the rest of the dish really cold on top and luke warm at the bottom, which is quite an odd temperature.
