Stopped here because it was recommended by the receptionist at Best Western. Definitely more of a pub than a restaurant, we didn't order drinks and service noticeably declined after they realized we were just there for food. But we had awesome Reuben sandwiches, bread perfectly toasted and the right ratio of cheese to meat so that it wasn't dripping. Fries were hot and fresh. Wow, worst service ever! Complained to bartender/manager about drinks served and came at us with a very angry demeanor, refusing to correct the problem. Tried to cancel our food order which he refused to do, over charging us for things we didn't order. It was extremely busy the night our group of 5 got there. We waited about 30 minutes, we had requested an inside table as we are of the older generation. When they called us it was for an outside table. We decided to wait inside since it was cold. We waited another 20 minutes and they called a party of 5 who came in well after us. I have to say, the staff are extremely kind and efficient. The food is AHMAZING! I had the cottage pie and could only eat half of it. Our family was all happy with our experience at Fat Irish. We were seated quickly for lunch and the food was ready fast. I liked that there were many different options. We had biscuits and gravy, French toast brunch, clam chowder, a burger and fries, and a turkey bacon sandwich. We all ate our entire meal and enjoyed them. The clam chowder was probably the worst I've ever had. Absolutely ZERO flavor, way too thick not creamy but thick like dehydrated vomit. This place would embarrass Ireland. Also music was so loud we had to yell to have a conversation. Will not go back. You couldn't pay me to eat there again. 8/2018 Fat Irish had great service and great food. I was craving fish and chips and clam chowder and was able to satisfy both cravings in one visit. The server was friendly and attentive. That short sentence really doesn't do him justice though Their chowder was offered in a cup or a bread bowl and was very hardy. I can't say enough about their fish and chips. Three large pieces of fish with just enough batter to keep them from falling apart as you ate them. Potato wedges were seasoned to perfection and everything was served piping hot. Looking forward to my next visit to the area to satisfy my fish & chip cravings. 10/2019 One year later, Fat Irish still doesn't disappoint. Their shepherds pie was the best I've ever had and was the perfect compliment to the cool weather and light drizzle outside. We also had their salmon. We went to the restaurant on Sunday 9-8-2024. They were busy and had one bartender and one waitress working inside. We were seated and sat for 25 minutes without a hello or an acknowledgment we were there. The waitress was clearly not able to multi task going from one table, completing their order and then moving on to the next in no order of who was seated first. I have taken my family to the coast for a week every year for the last twenty five years, from Puget Sound down to California. I make it a point to get a cup of chowder at every place we eat, and Fat Irish was no exception. It was pretty traditional and it was fantastic. I gave it an 8.5 on my own chowder scale. They offer a very nice fish and chips, one of the best ever, according to my guy. I tried the Irish Stew on the first visit and Salmon Plate on the second visit. Both good, not spectacular but satisfying like comfort food. Good portions. It's very casual atmosphere. You can come and watch the game with the bartenders. The bar has three sides with stools which facilitates conversation among those at the bar and the bartenders. There are tables hugging the perimeter as well as outside with the fire pit. My family has been vacationing in Brookings, Oregon for decades! Three family members tried this place five years ago and didn't have a good experience. I decided to give it another whirl with two other family members and was 4-star impressed! My Aunt & her husband both ordered the fish & chips dinner and can not stop raving about their food. High, high marks for the flavor, amount of food. Special comments about the lack of greasiness and flavors!! Especially the tartar sauce. I had a bite of their food and agree on all counts I ordered the fish tacos because the waitress said they were her favorite. I was a little leery about ordering fish tacos at an Irish pub but a local at the table next to us confirmed it was her favorite fish and chips place in Brookings so I took a chance that the same cod would fill my tacos! The flavors were good, the coleslaw & pico de gallo that accompanied the tacos were plentiful for a full taco! And one them was accurately listed as having jalapeño; big pieces and my lips were numb. Lol The reason I rated the experience four stars was because there wasn't enough fish in my fish tacos. Each of three had some fish - all with excellent flavor, but needed more. DH had the Irish Stew which came with two pieces of garlic bread, I had the Ceasar Salad with Salmon, and one of DH's pieces of gb!. I was amazed at the size of the salmon filet that came with the salad - sorry no pictures, because it was huge. I ate about half of the salmon and all of the salad.
