I am an eleven year old girl and I had a great time. Even though I'm not a big fan of burgers, this one was delicious I'm a bit shy but I was able to talk to the waiter she was nice and I gave her the check at the end. The ceiling and walls were decorated with colored dollar bills and we were able to make our own to put on the wall! Even though it was cash only they fortunately provide you with a ATM machine the food was delicious I got a deluxe burger and it was awesome!. I came with my Mom as a quick food stop on our way to Olympic National Park. I got the Deluxe Cheeseburger with Fries and she got the Chicken Nuggets with Fries. Our food came out fairly quick (less than 10 min) even though there were 4 or 5 parties in the restaurant. I was surprised and pleased as the fries were piping hot as well as the burger and nuggets...then I know it is fresh. Fries were good and so were the nuggets even though I'm not sure if it was actually real chicken. Whatevs! I still ate 5 of them (in addition to my cheeseburger) while my Mom had the rest. Burger was tasty and cooked well where it was juicy but NOT too juicy where it makes a pool in your basket raining and thereby soggifying the fries. I would stop here again for sure. I'm really surprised that this place doesn't get more love. After experiencing the namesake Burger, this is the sort of place that deserves to be on everyone's radar! Also of note, if there is an actual Fat Smitty, I would love to meet him! Located just outside of Port Townsend, this old school diner is serving up an incredible burger and doing it with plenty of character. The Fat Smitty, their namesake Burger, is like a big Mac on steroids. Double beef, double cheese, double bacon and three buns. Remember the first time you saw a Big Mac and thought, "No way, three pieces of bread?" (That's at least what I thought...simpler times) And felt like that was a burger that signify the passage into a new stage of life? This burger is the one that you get to celebrate another major life event, like being really hungry, getting married or having a child! The burger easily she eats a couple people and while it's about $12 with a side of fries, it's well worth it. The inside has an incredible vibe and is predominantly identified by the fact that people have been pinning one dollar bills to the ceiling and walls for as long as anyone can remember. It's quite the scene and you can't help but participate! The place only takes cash but they do have an ATM in the back. I feel like these sorts of drive and dine sorts of places are the only spots that can still get away with big cash only, and I will happily pay if I can leave one of myFriends, George Washington, on the ceiling to commemorate it! Burgers are huge but I thought they lacked flavor. My husband thought he had COViD because his burger had no flavor. It's almost like they weren't seasoned. Hmmmm but they were HUGE. Bun in the middle of two cheesy patties, lettuce and special sauce. It was difficult to finish one by yourself. The fries were good, not great. I think I like seasoned fries better, think curly fries. But you did get a good helping of them. The service was great and the place was one of a kind. Dollar bills fill the ceiling. Really terrible service and the food was lukewarm. They didn't bring my husband's food. I'm not sure if it's because he has an accent or not, eating surrounded by Trump merchandise and people wearing Trump gear was very uncomfortable. Honestly, it was a very good burger! The server we got was very friendly, and this is coming from a short, dark, Hispanic guy. I didn't feel that they were racist as others claim to be. The staff are bigoted. It is clear from the far right propaganda littered all over the place, and if you're visibly queer or not white it's obvious by the way they treat you. I went with a coworker and he has been before. He's never seen them treat people like that before he brought me. They were rude, giving nasty looks, and overall I felt very uncomfortable and unsafe. I didn't even feel safe enough to use the restroom. The food was bland and mediocre. The milkshake was good but it's hard to mess up a milkshake. Not worth the experience. The last stop on our small town burger joint expedition this summer. It's a long one so buckle up. We've driven by Fat Smitty's a million thousand times. It is an icon on this stretch of Highway 101 for anyone whose done the 101 loop and the parking lot is almost always full. It's also notorious for the dollar bill tradition that started nearly 30 years ago when a traveling business man attached a $1 bill to his business card. Our waitress was super sweet, friendly and attentive. We explained that we're local to the peninsula but had never actually stopped in ourselves. That's when she explained how the truly overwhelming decor that litters EVERY. SINGLE. SURFACE got started and that every 5 years everything except the OG bills pinned to the ceiling are donated to local charities. The last donation in 2017 totaled $26,000!! Full transparency this is a roadside dive. Overly greasy with a pile o' fries is the name of the game and expecting it to be anything else will only set you up for disappointment. Cash only so be prepared, yes almost every surface is covered in a layer of grime and the namesake Fat Smitty is absolutely massive. We enjoyed our burgers (although I'd pass on the potato salad next time) and I will say that compared to other greasy spoon burger joints around the peninsula patty size and portions were far superior to those charging the same amount elsewhere. So hopefully that keeps things in perspective. I'd happily stop again. This may be an overly patriotic establishment to some but their active role in their local community should be commended not condemned. Regardless of your political views (which seems to be the theme for a lot of the recent negative reviews and has nothing to do with food) asking for the cup with markers and sharpies to lay claim to your spec of wall space for the next 5 years, while you enjoy a basket of fries, is a right of passage for locals and a novelty that should not be missed if you're in the area. read more

Absolute worst service ever. My family has never been disrespected in such a manner. The type of disrespect you only see in a movie or something- seriously. Our waitress so rude, we could hear her cursing under her breath, she was cutting us off when ordering, straight up slamming our food on the table, and one of the employees even yelled at my cousin. It's like the whole crew was being A-holes to us for no reason. We were nothing but respectful to them and that was not reciprocated. Fat Smitty's is everything a old school burger joint should be. Slightly outdated but maintained, a little funky but staffed by super friendly small town folks. The people knocking it because of the political stuff need to remember one key thing - this is an independently owned and operated small American business. The kind our country was built on. They have every right to decorate their shop with things that make them happy. I suggest you open your minds and enjoy a damn good burger. As a few have mentioned the Fat Smitty's burger is giant. Saw this on the way up to La Push and made a mental note to stop by on the way home. The place definitely has that tourist trap kind of vibe, but it's fun and has that local kind of feel as well. Not knowing much about the food, I ordered the Fat Smitty's burger special (w/ onion rings) on the front of the menu, and the gf went with the halibut fish and chips. When the food came out I was definitely blown away with the presentation of my burger. I didn't realize that this was basically a Big Mac on steroids w/ a couple strips of thick cut bacon. The burger was very good and I was happy that it was more on the classic side and not all fancied up. The onion rings were ok, but I felt they were just a little too greasy...at least for my first meal of the day. The fish and chips were pretty good as well, even though the fish was more than likely of the frozen variety. This would have been more of a four star kind of experience except the bowl of chowder that came with the fish was pretty bland and felt a little mealy (prob from the potatoes). Also, the coleslaw had a good zingy flavor, but i kept getting an aroma of fish from it. It was funny how it smelled more like fish than the actual fish did. I don't know if I'd order the soup, but the burger was a pleasure to eat and the fish was perfectly fine at that price point. read more

Had the signature burger and it was a great, though be it huge, hamburger. Fries are great, and well fried. Staff is accommodating, although was a little standoffish at first. They did warm up as our dining experience went on. The atmosphere is fun, with a fun decorate with a dollar. Markers are provided at each table so that people can participate and add to it the one dollar bills hanging throughout the restaurant. Shake is pretty tiny for almost $5, especially not knowing whether things are 100% made in house from scratch or just through a food service like Sysco. Tasted fine, just a very small portion. Same thing with the chili cheese fries. Seem like standard steak fries with some chili and shred cheese. Smallish portion for almost $10. Again same with the burger. It's a welcome destination for people staying nearby. We were bike touring and arrived in the area around 6:30 pm. There would be more options if we had a car but with us being on bikes this was the only option and it closed at 7 pm. After a long day on the bike I hammered down the road to pick up my order before closing. I ordered a hamburger and two orders of fish and chips, and a shake. The hamburger lived up to the hype and I recommend that. The fish and chips were less noteworthy but it probably suffered from transport in my panniers. I've driven by this place for a decade and finally decided to stop in. I didn't read other Yelp reviews so wasn't aware of some key issues with this establishment, much to my dismay, prior to sitting down at the counter. So, first of all, way to disenfranchise over half of your potential customers by having blatant political messaging right in their faces. Trump signs and bumper stickers all over the place. I suppose this appeals to the neo-Nazis and white supremacists that want to eat lunch but for actual Americans, it's not a good look. Frankly, I don't want to see ANY business with their political leanings on display, left OR right. That being said, the reviews that talked about poor service must have been here on a bad day because the young ladies at the counter were polite, friendly, and quick. I ordered the chili burger, which was delivered luke warm so the cheese hadn't melted. The chili itself was likely food service canned stuff that they doctored with extra chili powder and I liked it. The burger itself had a lot if gristle in it so that was disappointing. The high point were the fries, which were light, crispy, and darn near perfect. O.k./greasy food. TERRIBLE service. My brother-in-law wanted to stop here after a trip to Ft. Worden. He said the burgers were huge and we would love it. Then the waitress/B came over to 'take' our order. This lady was perhaps the angriest/meanest waitress/wait staff I have EVER experienced. She was barking at us to give us her order. We had four adults, two teenagers and two toddlers (all behaving and being kind for once). One of the teenagers ordered and said I would like a cheeseburger with just ketchup please. The waitress barked 'So you mean a REGULAR cheeseburger!!'. My niece literally jumped in her chair she barked it so loud. She replied sheepishly, 'yes, please...just a cheeseburger.' The waitress was NOT impressed and rolled her eyes (why?!) Next my brother-in-law was ordering for his toddlers. He said, 'he (pointing to the 4 year old) would like a cheeseburger and fries. Do you have a kids portion, he won't eat much.' "NO! He can have a REGULAR cheeseburger!" At this point we were all taken aback and put on edge as she was SO angry for some reason. The nephew also wanted a milkshake so his dad ordered a small milkshake. "WE only have ONE SIZE!" O.k. that's fine he said. The rest of the order was painful but we tried to put our heads down and order straightforward as possible and ask no questions to not receive her wrath. She stomped away and eventually our food came. Food was fine, a bit greasy and not really special other than that their specialty burger is large. They brought small glasses of soda and ice teas for those that ordered and we could not get any of the 6 wait staff's attention for a refill (we never ended up getting one). Not a single person came to check on us after they brought the food. We waited...and waited...and waited. We had long since finished and needed to go boxes and to pay our checks. Most of the waitstaff was busy huddled together at the bar area gossiping about how they were throwing up the night before. My niece and I just pushed our food away at this point. Seriously...talking at length about barfing 10 feet from your customers? Finally, we couldn't wait anymore. We tried to get their attention but they said 'we ARE NOT your waitress!'. But ours had disappeared. She was gone? We finally tried a fourth person and said, 'would you like us to pay before we leave?'. "Oh sure." Well can we get the bill? My gosh! Finally somebody brought us our bill. We wanted to get a togo box for my 4 year old nephew's untouched burger but we weren't willing to wait another 1/2 hour for it.
