Stopped here for lunch on our way to the Olympic Game farm last weekend. Ordered the "deluxe" burger with cheese (for the hubby) and without for myself with a side of onion rings. The burgers were HUGE, charbroiled perfectly with fresh ingredients and fantastic! The onion rings had what tasted like corn dog breading which was a surprise. I prefer the panko breading myself but these were also very good. Sitting outside under umbrellas was nice so we could enjoy the summer sunshine. Very disappointed. I ordered the fat smitty burger to go. Paid the lady $15.00. When the order was ready I drove home 10 miles, opened the bag only to find that they did not get my order right. I got a plain burger with no cheese and french fries. Ate it anyway. The fries were really good but the burger was dry and no flavor. Probably wont be back. Best burgers within 100 miles and probably in the State. I've been coming to Fat Smitty's for probably 20 years now and have an exceedingly good experience every time. The Fat Smitty Burger is an American institution. It's best just to grab it, smush it and slam it because it's so big. The hot dogs and chili dogs are also fantastic. The menu is fairly basic as a traditional American hamburger stand but everything they do, they do amazingly. The food is economical in my opinion. $13 for one of the biggest burgers in Washington State and really good steak fries. The interior is super cool with their raising money for charity, so the walls and ceiling are adorned with thousands of dollar bills with humorous messages on it from customers over the years. Every time I go, they're pretty slammed but we always have good people serving us. The service is a little overwhelmed at times but that's because they're so busy and it's a symptom of how popular this place is. Fat Smitty's is run by proud American former military and I personally enjoy that vibe. Unless you're some hyper sensitive Californian or a histrionic social media addicted Karen who's never been out of their blue utopia, it's a pretty cool vibe. All in all, if you enjoy burgers, hot dogs and traditional American food stands, Fat Smitty's is one of the best on the West Coast. I have drove by this little place so many times and always wanted to stop. Now I know that the universe knew more than I do. We finally stopped in after a day of hiking beautiful Rialto Beach to be treated like we were ignorant and annoying by the server behind the counter. I sat on a stool as my husband stood next to me when the insolent old woman blurted "Order to go or here?". I smiled and said "Here please" and through her grimace she replied "Can I at least wipe the counter first?" I was literally the only person sitting on a stool within 4 stools on either side of me but gladly stood to allow her to do her duties. Then another lady asked if they could get a table for 6 and the server grunts to a table of 2 people "Can you 2 sit at the counter so they can have the table?". We loved anything and everything that Smitty's had to offer! I had heard that this was the spot we needed to try on the road trip and it delivered. We ordered two of the Fat Smitty combo meals which was way more than enough to feed the two of us if not up to four people. The burger was a double cheese with three buns, bacon, and all the fixin's you'd expect. The flavor and freshness was spot on to what you want on a road trip. We were surprised to get super fresh onions which were juicy as hell! The fries were yummy and the onion rings were on par with Red Mill. Super good! Overall, I wished I loved closer. What an experience. Here is the bottom line: big greasy delish burger city. If that precious sentence appeals to your pallet or makes you smack your gums out of hunger, this is your salvation. I will say, however, it's out there!!! That said, if your traveling north to Sequim, you will pass by this place. You can't miss it either. Too much burger pride out front. The only 2 drawbacks is how small the inside is and that it's a chase only place. Cash only is a huge deterrent for me but it was well worth it. My burger was jam packed with love, grease (in a good way), and skillful burger mastery on the flat top. The waitress was very awesome and it only took me a fraction of a second to realize that SHE realized we weren't regulars. That means there is a huge community feel here. All the money hanging up is given away to charities around WA; which is great. They have a jar behind the counter to give money so uniformed officers can eat for free, also great. We ate in and to-go a few times this last week. Grilled cheese, hot dog, fries, onion rings, fish sandwich, chowder, chocolate shake. The chowder tasted like it was from a can, chewy.....meh. The onion rings are great, extra greasy; but great. My husband said both times the fish sandwich was one of the best ones he's had in a very long time; totally worth it. Everything else was fine. When it's rainy outside and the doors are closed....the old rancid greasy fish smell burns your nose hairs....soaks into your clothes....stays for days. It's bad, real bad, really extremely gross. Maybe their grease trap is leaking all over the place and hasn't been cleaned in a few years.....that's what it smells like. When the doors are open and the place airs out a bit....it's noticeable....but not disgusting. When the doors are closed....get your food to go. Super bummed. Second time eating here. First time was great and actually, for my husband, this time was great too. We had a long day in Seattle and had planned to stop at Fat Smitty's on our way home to Sequim. Took forever with all the traffic before the Hood Canal Bridge and then we waited almost 30 minutes for two Fat Smitty Burgers, fries and onion rings. My husband ate his in the car on the way home and he was in heaven!! When we finally made it home, I unwrap the aluminum foil around my burger from heaven and there's a GIGANTIC horse fly just chillin' on my burger!! He was so fat and happy off of my burger that he didn't even fly away!! I was unbelievably disappointed and pretty upset to have to toss a $13 burger in the trash!! I completely understand, stuff like this happens. But the way my complaint was handle is the reason for my 1 star review. I called to let them know what had happened and the young lady who answered the phone was very apologetic, but then she made the excuse for the reason a fly was in my burger. She said that "it gets so packed and busy" that they can't keep track of stuff like that. She said she was "super bummed", "very sorry" all which were very nice, but never during our conversation did she offer me a refund or a replacement burger etc. Pretty much just oh well. You're average burger with an extra bun and patty. The burger was okay, it didn't taste any special and the patty didn't taste that fresh. The service we received was not great. Our server gave us attitude and explained how the kitchen was swamped. There was literally on 6 tables seated, not a full house. I had to take half my Smitty burger to go and when I asked the server for a box, she gave me a box and said that it will not fit. In my head I'm like "what the heck then." Then I asked for foil instead and she said "whatever you want i don't care". This is great comfort food with a very friendly staff and reasonable prices. It's got an old time restaurant feel with great (enormous) burgers. Also love how welcoming and community oriented they are - including collecting thousands of dollars in dollar bills customers tape to the walls and ceilings that are donated to local charities. I've read some strange reviews saying they don't welcome liberals or LGBTQ but as a member of that community myself and my friends have always been very welcome there! Upon entering the restaurant, you will see countless number of dollar bills hung, pinned to various places in the restaurant. It's been part of the tradition for Fat Smitty's for years when the restaurants are filled up with so many donation bills to take down the bills and donate those moneys to nearby non-profits. What a great cause and an interesting concept that's photo-worthy and worth participating! Their burgers are ginormous...so be ware that you might not be able to finish it. We have driven by Fat Smitties every time we come up to the area and have always said we need to stop. We we did and wished we would have done it sooner. The 'friendly" service was not friendly to me; seemed bored and uninvolved. The burger and shake were not anything special, just a burger and shake. The room they had me sit in first smelled funky and then that switched to smelling strongly of cleaning products.
