I would say this is a very average place that has pretty good (but not great) food. I would have rated higher but their prices are actually kind of high for what you get! I got the double fatso and the char dog and the total was a little over $13. The burger does remind me of In N Out except greasier, less fresh, and about twice as expensive. Now finally able to visit them in person and my fat man love for this place only grows. The staff is working their tails off, they were quite busy, but I didn't feel neglected or even made to wait despite this. You could tell they were putting their all into the service. Food was again on point and fully fulfilled the fast-food-made-well craving that I had. Tried a char dog with cheese (chicago style), fries (must be fresh cut by the looks) and a milkshake -- I cant fault what was done. They also have a great child friendly patio area with tons of sun coverage that was the perfect place to sit back, enjoy some grub and the first days of sunshine Chicago was blessed with this year. This was my first Chicago dog and it was great! Fatso's is tucked away on the corner of Chicago Ave and Oakley Blvd in Ukrainian Village. It's a small restaurant with limited seating so I think it's more of a grab-and-go type of place. I ordered a classic char dog with fries, as did my friend, and we shared a small serving of the mac and cheese. The peppers on the hot dog were a little too spicy for me but the mac and cheese was a perfect! This was more than enough food for us and we didn't even touch half of the fries. Me and the girls were at the bar across the street and decided to go to fatso while we waited for Uber. Maybe it was just their bad day but this place was nothing special. When you enter you are attacked by the smell of grease, i dont mind that smell but this place had too much of it. I would say this place is good for when you want to grab some food after you had too many drinks, otherwise i would only come back for the fried pickles. We had the mac n cheese with burger, Maxwell Polish sausage with fries and fried pickles. The mac n cheese was nothing special to write about. The Maxwell was ok but the sausage did not taste anything like a Polish sausage and the fries that came with it had wayyyy too much salt on them. It seemed like somone by mistake opened a container of salt on them and it went all over the fries. The fried pickles were pretty good and the sauce that it comes with was pretty good. But thats the only thing i would come back for if i was in the area. They have outside area to sit at and some seats inside, but only 2 tables to sit at. Perfection! This is what all fast food places wishes they were. Here's what I have ordered thus far: Shrimp: SO GOOD. crispy, appropriate pop when you bite in and well seasoned so dipping sauces are optional. Fries: Fatso's offers a darker french fry, which is my preference. Each order is individually salted. I heart them. Oreo Milkshake: I am guessing they consume oreos with vanilla icecream for the win on this one. This is thick and heavy on the oreo. The best I have ever had Strawberry Milkshake: fresh strawberries sometimes get stuck in your straw. SO GOOD. Choosing between this an Oreo is like Sophie's choice. Ooey Gooey Burger: Dare I say it rivals Au Cheval? It's a very different burger but epically delicious and just as good IMHO. Char dog: I think they put to much crap on it (I'm originally from NYC though). I like mind plain with mustard and find the bun to be too thick, but the dog itself is really good. Single Cheeseburger: straight up goodness Chicken tenders: a bit too heavily breaded for me, but they were still seasoned very well. I love fatsos. I truly do. My wife and I love their shrimp. They seem to be hand battered and fried fresh every time. It's by far some of my favorite fried shrimp in the city. Fun atmosphere. Easy to walk in and grab on the go. They have a variety of options from hamburgers and hotdogs to Mac and cheese and fried shrimp! We got the hotdogs with fries. It bascially came with two sausages under a generous serving of toppings (tomatoes, pickles, peppers, onions etc...) Fries were pretty soggy and the restaurant wasn't comfortable to sit in. It's a cheap eat so I wouldn't complain about that but it just isn't a "must visit" in Chicago for me. Service was efficient but not particularly friendly. I tried the Fatso with Merkts Cheddar, a spreadable cheese that has a very sharp flavor and melts well too. Burgers can be flame broiled or smashed on the flattop. I went with flame broiled made the way they make it with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and Fatso sauce. The bun was chargrilled too, but it was a little blackened and hard on half of it. But overall the burger was really good and worth the $6 price tag. read more

I've heard so much about this place from family members and friends... everything I've been told about this place proved itself to be true! Had the pleasure of coming in over the weekend with my boyfriend who has been here before and he loves the place. When I decided to come in, I saw photos of their menu, and I was immediately pleased that they catered to Vegetarians... lemme tell you, I don't eat ANY kind of MEAT. About a 3.5: I was really excited to try out Fatso's Last Stand - we came here to get some lunch; the place itself is quite small, with 2 tables with 3 chairs, and some counter space with some stools. The concept was to have a 'neighborhood snack bar' in providing items such as burgers, char dogs, Chicago dogs, sides, and cold beverages. V was the cashier/employee that was helping us and she was quite sweet! We ended up ordering the Char Cheddar Dog with fries (wasn't a fan of this Chicago dog, but I did like the thick cheddar spread!), Grilled Cheddar Polish (this was tasty, but I wished there was more of a snap), Single Fatso with Cheese (a char burger that was just okay), Mac & Cheese with salami (others liked this, but I thought it was less on the cheese flavor; the salami chunks were okay, but I wished they were thinly-sliced and more crispier), and Fatso's Famous Fried Jumbo Shrimp (1/2 lb option; these are hand deveined and butterflied with a little less batter in the house; these were fresh and tasty; you can choose either regular or spicy cocktail sauce, or one of each). All the hype aside, not very impressive to me. Maybe I'm just a brat that's stuck on the "snap" of the (Vienna beef) red hots at RHR. Also, RHR has got these awesomely produced, hand cut fries that are top notch in my book. Don't get me wrong, I dig a good char dog and have had plenty in my day, but somehow it completely missed the mark for me. (With my dog, I didn't catch a whiff of that great char smell) Also, it's winter season and what's the deal with the cold draft in there. I like a comfortable atmosphere when I'm eating. Don't most people? (If fuel and gas costs are down this year, couldn't they put on the heat?) The place gets mad busy with incoming people-traffic from the bars nearby. However, it's great that they offer parking in the rear, as there were many spaces available. Speaking to those reviews that claim Fatso's burger is just as good as In-&-out.. these are burgers of different calibers. Most definitely. But I'll agree that the food porn on the secret menu looks mighty appealing. For a burger close to the In&Out style, I suggest RHR on Ashland. Can't say I'd come back for dogs or burgers. But for that nicely, "fried skrimp".. that's a great possibility. (Don't go looking for "skrimps" on their menu now.
