I see I'm not the only one who experienced multiple service issues during my visit. Chalked it up to opening night jitters, but considering they've been open for a while, I think they just kind of...suck...at this. Which is too bad, because their food is actually quite tasty. We had a girls day/afternoon tea catch-up here. Vibes were of course a 10/10 if Instagrammable pink wonderlands are your jam. Most of us opted for the individual Tea Times, which they repeat multiple times is intended only for individual portions and not sharing--even though all our items were served on a shared, multi-tiered platter. Guh? As with most French-style afternoon teas I've done (including many in Paris), the tea selection was abysmal while the food offerings were superior. I had the namesake Bisou Bisou teas, which lists a lot of fun ingredients on the menu but tastes like mildly pungent nothing in reality. For Mini Tea Sandwiches, we got a tasty Croque Madame, a savory Smoked Salmon, a fun and healthy Buckwheat Blini, a Deviled Egg I skipped, a flavorful Tarragon Chicken, a flaky Petite Croissant, and a delicious Mini Mushroom Quiche. Not bad, and certainly better than most English-style offerings (sorry Brits!). The Mini Pastries were also a cut above. The namesake Mini Bisou Bisou, is a fun callback to '60s lip art with plenty of entremet flavor. The Gianduja Tart tasted like a Ferrero Rocher in, well, tart form--not complaining! The eclairs (chocolate and vanilla), canales and macarons (raspberry) were all well made--and again, better than what most British-style places offer. But the service issues--that's where Fauchon lost me. We were asked to move tables after some of our orders had already arrived in order to accommodate another party, even though we had a reservation and the other party was a walk-in. They mixed up everyone's tea orders in our party, and we gave up trying to figure out which was which after a while. And while most servers were friendly, one had a really bad attitude and we dreaded having her stop by. Mind you, the place was barely 20% full the entire time we were there. Some dishes were great (mussels, bread sampler)some were ok meh (steak-cheap & meh flavor, burger-bland, French onion soup ok-a lot of bread) but majority food was bad (broccoli burnt, overly chewy no flavor duck breast, lobster roll no flavor at all, overly soaked and overripe unfresh asparagus/mushrooms). Food was hit or miss. And layout of restaurant is huge floor plan and yet super SMALL TABLES, practically had no room for all the dishes. They then placed an ABSURD amount of utensils on the table! We each had our 3 utensils per person plus butter knife and dish then they proceeded to bring 4 more sets of full utensils in middle of table. Like ??? Utensils also dirty. Then when the food came, the waiter had attitude because he had nowhere to put the bread and expected us to move the utensils he set quickly and entire meal had to arrange the tables and dishes for them. They try to give the fancy vibe but fail dramatically with this. Seems tacky. And for this busy area with lots of competition, I am surprised the quality of the food in comparison to price is just AVERAGE compared to competitors in the area. Main thing going for it is the decor is all. Tried desserts, from apple to chocolate hazelnut tart to croissants to macaroons all were just only OK. Service was HORRENDOUS from this one waiter (tall skinny dark skinned man) who BERATED my family and I for tips. We came under a gift card and we knew we spent way under the total of gift card to compensate for generous tax and tips and even extra, more than enough to cover. The guy had attitude when bringing us the food, taking our order for the desserts, and then the tips. After which he said "the bill is all covered. you can tip if you wish" and after we started getting up he ran to the table to scour for tips and then he confronted us scolding that "TIPS ARE MANDATORY" even though we were only party of 4 so it was not mandatory & he obviously just was just selfish demanding more after we already left more than enough on the gift card at least $60. Either way, it was only that one waiter and perhaps even the front desk girl who gave us a mean look and weird vibe as we entered like we didn't belong. The other server (this lady) was actually very kind and great service friendly and too intiative out of her way to ensure we had food to our liking especially when duck came out redish. She and other waiter also offered to combine another table so we weren't eating so cramped even though the meal was half over, was appreciated. However, the other tall dark skinned waiter was beyond unacceptable, he made no such friendly efforts and even was beyond rude. Food was alright but service was terrible and would not come back. ever. especially if he is still here. and if it was, it would be to claim the rest of my unclaimed gift card that I generously offered over, to which the waiter ungrateful demanded more, and we then gave double the tips under his pressuring of us. they will taunt and scare tactics against you and demand more. read more

I was genuinely excited to try Fauchon NYC, having visited Fauchon several times in Paris. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling unwelcome as a vegetarian and unsatisfied as a customer. To begin with the positives: the decor was pleasant and nicely evocative of its Parisian counterpart. The large glass windows overlooking Bryant Park created a lovely setting and added to the atmosphere. Unfortunately, there was not a single entrée on the lunch menu that did not contain meat or fish. I politely asked our waiter whether I could order the smoked salmon and gruyère omelet without the salmon and wondered if removing a significant ingredient might warrant a small price adjustment. The waiter kindly checked, but the answer was no. I did not really expect the adjustment to happen, but I asked hoping they might be more generous given that there were no vegetarian entrée choices available. I mentioned, very pleasantly, that when there is not one entrée a vegetarian can order, it creates the feeling that guests like me were not considered. To his credit, our waiter was apologetic and gracious and said he would pass the feedback along. As for the food: the omelet was perfectly cooked, although there was much less gruyère than I expected given that the cheese had become the co-star of the dish (a bit mind-boggling for my $26). It came with a very petite offering of "petite greens" and three blistered tomatoes still attached to a piece of vine. No bread was offered with the meal; if you wanted bread, this was a separate $12 appetizer. Dessert was the visually lovely "NYC Big Apple" -- vanilla cream, macadamia and pecan crunch, and caramelized apples. The skill of the pastry chef was more evident in the presentation than in the taste. Given my experiences in Paris and Fauchon's reputation as a brand built on French hospitality, I expected more. I remember Fauchon from spending time in Paris and was so excited to see it come to New York! It's in a great location right across from Bryant Park. The space inside is gorgeous- everything is bright pink, black, and silver. There's a space where you can sit and dine, and on the left there's a cafe space where you can pick up lattes, cookies, pastries, and other treats to go (some of these are prepackaged and would make great souvenirs, although they're pricey!). Fauchon is known for pâtisserie and I think that's what really shines here. The basket of mini croissants, pain au chocolats, and chouquettes were fantastic- maybe the best pain au chocolat I've had! We got the French onion soup and herb fries- neither were the best I've ever had, but both perfectly good. The Kir royale ($19) was pretty heavy on Chambord but delicious. I wish we'd saved room to try the desserts in the case in the cafe because they all looked excellent! I will say I wish the cafe options were also included on the menu you receive in the dining room- we would've liked to have been able to order lattes and pastries there (I'm sure you still could, but they were not on the menu). Tried the red Paris kiss dessert at Fauchon and also experienced the ambiance at the cafe. I think this is a nice sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of this central area around Bryant Park. The dessert itself was absolutely delicious, not overly sweet but with a great textural balance. I immediately wanred to try the black version (called New York kiss). However, the dessert was quite expensive for a cafe setting. Will definitely come back! read more

Visited Fauchon for the first time and it was very enjoyable. Fauchon is newly opened, the interior is aesthetically pleasing, each seating location is comfortably separated from other customers, and immediately after entering, you will get a sense of an inviting atmosphere. Our Server, Witness (cool name, right?!), did an exceptional job. He gave appreciated recommendations and was attentive throughout the entire meal. Let me start by giving grand kudos for the complimentary bread, butter, and olive oil. I was in heaven, when I opened the Echire butter and it was exquisitely soft, pleasantly salty, and made each bite mouth-watering. My drink was a Mocktail, Coucou Cooler (coconut, lime, mint, cucumber). This drink was refreshing, well presented, and architecturally artistic. Our entrees were: Faroe Island Salmon a la Plancha (Quinoa, braised fennel, salsa verde). This dish was incredible. The salmon was prepared medium, each forkful had a piece of slightly salted salmon, and the accompanied quinoa and fennel made it complete. Order this. The other entree was the Auguste Ceasar Salad (Baby romaine, soft boiled egg, french beans, artichokes, parmesan, croutons, caesar dressing). This salad was filling, had plenty of ingredients, and those slices of parmesan elevated each bite. If a meal wasn't enough to make you happy, on the other side of the restaurant, you'll find chocolate, macrons, sweets, and merch for sale. The place is beautiful, but unfortunately the service was very disappointing. The overall vibe felt a bit strange and unwelcoming. We weren't able to have desserts served at the table--instead, we had to order at the counter, pay first, and then sit down with paper containers and wooden utensils, which was not what we expected. We tried to explain the situation, especially since we came based on Yelp reviews and were celebrating my mom's birthday. To their credit, one staff member was kind enough to switch us to proper china service. However, the experience took another turn when we found a hair in one of the desserts. That was really unacceptable. Considering the desserts alone cost $41.36--plus additional drinks like hot chocolate, coffee, and bottled water--the experience didn't match the price at all. I'm honestly not sure if I would give them a second chance. It's a shame, because the place itself is lovely. They are simply not ready to operate at this level, and it's clear that hospitality is not their priority. P.S. Fauchon Paris is my new favorite cafe near Bryant Park. I loved it so much, we went 2 weeks in a row before going ice skating in Bryant Park. However, there is a bit of room for improvement, especially with the service... 1. Atmosphere It has such a chic atmosphere and is conveniently located right across from Bryant Park with large windows. Once word gets out, I'm sure it will get packed very quickly. I love the pretty decor, including the open kitchen and Fauchon pink chairs and decorations. They also have a shop with dessert, pastries, drinks and other goodies to go. Our first visit, we were seated by the large windows, which was nice. Yesterday, we were seated at one of the middle seats uncomfortably close to the next table (it was originally a table for 4, split into 2 tables for 2) and a lot of foot traffic on the other side. Considering we had a reservation, I'd expected better seating. 2. Beverages Both times, we ordered different drinks. - The first time, I tried the Pink Chai Latte, which was cute with the Fauchon "F," but wasn't my favorite blend of flavors. It did come with a piece of chocolate, which was a nice touch. I was also considering ordering a dessert, but our server never came back after they'd told us they'd be back right away to take our dessert order. - The second time, I had the best hot chocolate I've had possibly in my whole entire life. The Haute Chocolate ($13.50+) is a bit pricey, but so worth it for the hot chocolate "experience," especially for hot chocolate lovers. The hot chocolate is served in a silver pot, along with whipped cream and pink marshmallow bisou in silver dessert coupes. The chocolate was the perfect level of richness and sweetness. The cream was smooth, too. The marshmallow, I would've preferred without the sugar coating, considering there's plenty of sweetness from everything else. - My boyfriend ordered the Chai Latte, which came with a piece of chocolate the first time, but didn't the second time. So we asked and they gave us one. It also wasn't hot, probably because it had just been sitting waiting to be served, while the hot chocolate was being prepared. 3. Service They visibly have many staff and servers, who were pleasant and friendly. However, the service was very slow both times. Possibly because it recently opened, there's a bit of noticeable disorganization and inefficiencies. Think pink! This cafe/coffee shop is decorated with the same types of colors as their hotel in Paris. Modern, bright, and with black and silver accents. I was unfamiliar with Fauchon, and I've been to Paris twice. I was walking by and walked in out of curiosity to see what they had to offer. First, they were very friendly and helpful, answering my questions about the macarons. They looked fresh and delicious as did some of the other items including beautiful entremets and chocolates. I just wanted one macaron to see how I'd like them. I chose the Cinnamon Apple macaron. It was fantastic, literally tasted like a piece of apple pie. The texture was perfect, not crumbly like some macarons I've had. They rotate flavors regularly so I definitely would go back to try more and some of the other things. read more

Adrienne and I had lunch at Fauchon on Saturday. This was a birthday celebration. The birthday girl had the chicken paillard topped with a frisée salad with tiny orange sections. I chose the French onion soup and the viennoiserie. This was a basket of two mini croissants, brioche and pain au chocolat. Adrienne polished off the chicken with gusto. I liked the soup and ate two of the croissants in quick succession. The celebrated pink Bisou was Adrienne's choice and she liked it as it was not overly sweet. I had the Mille-Feuille but could not finish it as it was too rich. What I found particularly lovely returning to Fauchon was that everyone worked here remembered me. How often does this happen unless one is a regular customer. I also remembered everyone's name as I make it a point to do so. It was a pleasure to meet Angela, the hostess, Diane, one of the managers, Witness and Jesus, the servers and Sofiyan, another manager. We came for lunch on the day before Christmas Eve. The location is great, with a beautiful view of Bryant Park. The service was fantastic, but our food was only okay. We ordered the hummus as an appetizer, which had way too much going on, as it was covered in vegetables and looked like a garden. I would have preferred more pita chips. I had the burger and fries as an entree, but there was too much aioli on the bun. It was an absolute mess once you picked it up to eat the burger, so I had to finish it with a knife and fork.
