This place used to be a pizza joint. I can't believe it's been that long since I came to this area of Manhattan. Like wow!I find it cute that they have the viral cube croissant. I almost bought it but it cost over $15 so I ended up getting the plain croissant which cost $5.25. For that price, I would say I've had better croissants that cost half that price. You can get one from Chinatown and it would easily blow this one off the water. They do have seats in the back but I'm not sure if it's self serve. I do assume it is. Their selection is not huge but they do emphasize the croissants a lot and the display is indeed very attractive. The sweet square croissant was on my list of things to eat on this trip to NYC and this was a great place to experience it. I would like to offer the suggestion of cutting the pastry in half through the middle and eating like an open faced sandwich as cutting into pieces was very difficult and didn't give the full experience in each bite. Once I knew how it was on the inside I cut it and picked up and was way easier to eat. This is a big pastry and is very filling, goes excellent with an espresso! The Dubai chocolate cupcake thing is really good and very rich and delicious. Creamy and dense the flavors of pistachios and chocolate are very pleasing and the crunchy chocolate cookie on the bottom and crunchy noodles inside make for a texture treat! Served with a smile and information about the items available was pleasantly offered so we could make sure we made the right decisions. The chocolate lobster tail was delicious but needed more filling but the texture was amazing! read more

I was looking for a place in Midtown to chat with a friend. Without going to Starbucks. Food & Drink: 2/5 I only ordered a juice and was surprised it rang up over $5. It tasted fine--just sweeter than I like--but in NYC you almost expect to pay a premium if you want to sit for a while. Vibes: 1/5 Unfortunately, the vibe took a turn when a homeless person came in and stole someone's bag. Staff stayed calm (clearly not the customers) and the bag was eventually recovered, but it was unsettling. There's no Wi-Fi either, which was disappointing since it looks like a place you could work from. All in all, convenient seating and decent drinks, but the high price and that jarring incident soured the experience. I probably wouldn't go back unless I needed an emergency spot to sit for a quick chat. read more

Discovered Pan d'oro on social media. We probably didn't order the right things; wasn't too impressed with this place. If you're used to lattes being kind of sweet, do NOT order the pistachio latte. I have a feeling it's a traditional Italian latte; adding sugar didn't help much and there barely any pistachio flavor. Got the lobster tail. The pistachio cream was good, but didn't expect the pastry to be too crunchy (thought it would be croissant texture). Caprese foccacia was ok, nothing special. Had better foccacia elsewhere before. One of the best things about the city are the numerous amounts of coffee shops and eateries. Passed by this spot and just had to pop in! Had a small cappuccino with oat milk (only way the have it) and a staff member suggested the croissant with pistachio cream. Cappuccino was good, the croissant was filling, fresh, flaky and baked oh so right. The cream, however, was a bit too sweet for me. It was delish and I would totally try again! I wish I could give this really cute place a better review. Honestly the 3 stars is coming from how it looks and it being clean on the inside. I ordered a single croissant and it was a huge disappointment. Now I will give them the benefit of the doubt and say I got it at 7 pm at night so probably wasn't the best but I do feel like I've gotten day old croissants better than this one :/ and my scale was taking into account it not being perfectly fresh. They also didn't have butter for the croissant sooooo I did find that a bit strange for being a cafe. Overall very cute service was meh but not horrible by any means just it was what it was and the croissant was so disappointing. Maybe I'll try it again but I'm not sure I will. read more

Lovely friendly staff. I am always greeted with the brightest of smiles and great high energy vibes. I've been here a few times on my way to work to pick up a coffee, specialty latte, or pastry. Everything is so delicious. To be honest I came here three times in one week to try different things and I'll be going back next week to try their cafe lunch options. This place is great for a quick grab and go or a quick sit down if that's what you'd like. I saw the bakery on my way to Grand Central and had to return because of how good the pastries looked in the window. After tasting the Bomboloni, I knew I had to return again. Hey, so I did not try the pastries or sandwiches, but I did try their decaf latte. Which was a pre-pucked espresso and it was so weak the first time they had to remake it because it truly was just milk. Even the second time, also they do 1 shot for 16 oz, but probably should be 2 shots for 16oz latte. Anyway, this place is new, very nice inside. Service was good since they did remake my drink. Oh also it doesn't say it on the menu but making your drink iced costs around 75 cents more, I figured this out as my 5.45 latte ended up being much more ~7 after tax. read more

Thank you for dramatically improving my day. This is a legit Italian cafe that somehow managed to open up on 42nd street next door to a Dunkin and a gift store. Everything is baked from scratch and tastes just like the fantastic little cafes in Italy. The mortadella SCHIACCIATA was amazing, crunchy flaky pressed focaccia like bread with imported mortadella, stracciatella cheese, and pesto almond sauce. Espresso was bonkers good as well. Staff and ownership is Italian, somehow Italians have already found this place so customers and staff speak Italian to each other. I hope it stays this good! read more
