My flight landed late, and I was literally praying I'd make it before they closed at 7:00 p.m. Traffic was a nightmare because of the World Cup, but my sweetie was determined to make sure my "welcome back" included my favorite dessert Tarte au citron. Walking into this little gem feels like stepping into a charming Parisian patisserie without ever leaving New York. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and every visit reminds me why I call NYC my second home. We arrived at 6:55 p.m., convinced they'd be sold out. To my surprise, they still had exactly what I came for! I happily walked out with three Tarte au citron and a pistachio macaron just minutes before they locked the doors. I've only ever ordered the tarts because they're that good, so I can't compare them to the rest of the menu--but honestly, I don't need to. They are absolutely worth planning your day around. I'm so, so sad to say that this was beyond disappointing and we will never be back. Honestly, I could tell from the moment we walked in that something felt off. The service wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't what you would expect from a brand like this. The food, however, was the biggest disappointment. Angelina Paris has this way of slowing everything down the second you sit. I went in for brunch ordered à la cart. I went with the eggs Benedict and the Angelina French toast. The Benedict was clean and rich without feeling heavy more restrained than most versions you get in the city. Came here to celebrate my best friend's birthday on a Wednesday and it was the perfect choice, way more relaxed than what I've heard weekends are like. Plenty of tables, no crazy wait, and we could actually enjoy our meal while not being rushed to give up our table. Our server, JuanPablo, was great and helped us kick things off with a bottle of Sancerre, crisp, refreshing, and exactly what we needed to start the celebration. We came here for a brunch after visiting St Patrick's Cathedral. I loved having breakfast served in a tiered plate setting almost like a high tea set-up. I ordered Angelina breakfast with hot chocolate and it was so delicious and impeccable. My son ordered a sandwich which he also enjoyed. Angelina's is located just off of Bryant Park on 6th Ave. between 40-39St. If you want the best French Hot Chocolate ever & pastries, this is the place to go. During our NYC my wife and I went by many bakeries and knew we wanted to try at least one. While wondering around the pastries in the window caught our eye and we decided to go in. They are definitely smart to have such beautifully designed pastries in the window as it brought us inside. We already had breakfast so we opted to grab a pastry at the to-go counter. We had Angelina when we visited Versailles in 2017. We were not crazy about the hot chocolate and we thought the Mont Blanc was just ok. Almost 10 years later, we passed by one in NYC and decided to reminisce our traveling days before our son was born. We appreciate the Mont Blanc so much more this time around. The chestnut paste is excellent and the cream inside is so fresh mixed with the meringue base which gives the dessert a little crunch and texture. We were a party of 3 and wanted to just try 1 serving of the hot chocolate, split among the 3 of us, to start, with the plan of ordering more if we wanted. Our waiter gave us this really irritated glare when we told him this (he said 1 wouldn't be enough and to order 2). When the hot chocolate was ready, he only brought over 2 cups instead of 3 and didn't even empty the pitcher before snatching it away (in a massive dining space, we were the ONLY party who got their pitcher taken away; it's usually left on the table). I know he didn't empty the pitcher because when the waiter wasn't looking, I went back and grabbed it from the counter he placed it on, and there was still some hot chocolate left in it. The ironic thing is, we absolutely would've ordered a second serving but his attitude left such a bad impression that we decided to leave. Went in to get three Mont Blancs and a hot chocolate. Total came out to $50. Despite me asking the female clerk at the pastry counter multiple times to please make sure the hot chocolate wouldn't spill because I would be carrying it in extremely cold weather outside, she placed it so haphazardly in the bag that it completely spilled over. She did not even offer napkins despite there being no line and her witnessing the spill she caused. The hot chocolate actually is not as delicious as the one in France, Singapore, or Japan, unless they offer a different recipe to go. Also highly unimpressive is their service, which is also (unsurprisingly) significantly outranked by that of the Angelina's overseas. Many companies could benefit from understanding how their brand suffers by placing it in NYC, where most servers behave as though they're doing you an enormous favor at their personal expense. I wouldn't come back here despite being an enormous fan of Angelina's for years. Update to the owner's response: There was no "advising" done, and the clerk placed the hot chocolate in the bag without any precautions. I was very hesitant to try the pistachio Mont Blanc but let me tell you, there's a reason why the original Mont Blanc is their specialty (smaller size and without the crust, have yet to try) and with this including the chocolate crust was such perfection of the right amount of pistachio flavor and sweetness with chestnut and crust. Because of this, we were required to order to go, which took away from the experience we were hoping to enjoy inside such a beautiful space.
