If you're after a cutesy retro cafe vibe, this is it. Gogojang cafe is in midtown close ish to moma so I decided to stop by before heading there to cool down with a beverage and a snack. I was a bit cautious because if you do the decor wrong the vibe could come off tacky and the food and drinks mediocre but they delivered. Decor was on point with kitschy girly pop vibes and great for photos. They even sold some retro snacks which went with their name which means roller skating cafe in Korean. Service is pretty minimal and ordering can be a bit confusing since they both seemed to take kiosk and counter orders. No clear signage but I guess you figure it out soon enough. I ordered a yuzu matcha, butter tteok, and a box of retro caramel (good but didn't count it towards my review since it's not store made) The drink was refreshing and citrusy with the right amount of sweetness. I loved that the butter tteok came warm with a combo of original and chocolate flavors in cute heart shell shapes. ordered an ube matcha and had somewhat high expectations due the drink being $10+ after including oat milk. unfortunately, the drink really missed the mark. first of all, it's pretty small, maybe about the size of my fist? second of all, the ube wasn't sifted, so i got chunks of unsifted ube bits, that were really bitter and awful tasting. i noticed that the drink ingredients come pre-made, so there's squeeze bottles of both the ube and the matcha foam. maybe it was a bad batch i got? but for $10, that's unacceptable. the drink itself was not too sweet and had good fragrance. if it was properly made, it might've been good, but at the price-point, it can't afford to be just "good." staff was nice and friendly. the space itself is rather large as well. seems to be ideal for groups, people doing a quick stop by or seeking refuge from the weather. i did see a couple or two in here but the space itself can get rather empty so if you're okay with everyone knowing your business, this could be the place for you. eclectically decorated and the vibe was upbeat and fun without being overstimulating. i would come back for one of the sweet snacks if i was hungry and had a bit of a sweet tooth mood. read more

If you're a matcha lover, Gogojang is a must-visit! They have such a fun selection of specialty drinks, and every single one we tried was amazing. We ordered the strawberry matcha, ube matcha, and a few others, and they were all incredibly flavorful, perfectly balanced, and not overly sweet. You can tell they put a lot of care into their drinks. It was hard to pick a favorite because everything tasted so good! The staff was friendly, and the whole experience was great. Happen to be in the area for errands and came across this really cute cafe/dessert spot! Didn't have room in my stomach for the desserts, but managed to try the bananarama (banana creme latte drink). It was pretty good - liked the little dried banana bits they added on top! My friend got the black sesame, which was also good. The cups holding the drinks were smaller than I expected, making my coffee feel a tad bit pricey for what I got. Staff was friendly (though my interactions were limited because we ordered on the touch screen tablet). Overall, it's a good place to catch up with a friend over few sips of coffee. It's an interesting space and was quiet on Saturday afternoon. We got the black sesame latte (earthy and tasty even for a non-coffee drinker) and the butterfly tea latte (very herbal until you mix the creme together) - both were good although I don't have to try the butterfly pea latte again. We also got the earl grey cake and the creme was so good, full of flavor, and the texture had so much tea flakes in it. It got a little too much tea leaves at times but perhaps that's what needed to add so much flavor. Prices are a little high given portion size but I'd go back and try more things. read more

From really exciting desserts to unique matcha and coffee drinks there are some really interesting things being done here. Not everything is Good - but i you're ordering to your taste there's a very good chance you'll get something very good, or maybe mind blowing. If you're coming in for just a matcha latter, this is not the place. The Dirty Matcha is one of the most interesting drinks in my opinion on the menu - if you like espresso, and you like matcha, then you can have some of the most expressions of each of those within this drink, which is a fun thing to experience! This is an adorable cafe that specializes in fun lattes and croffles--croissant waffle hybrid pastries. They also offer cookies with unique Asian flavors like black sesame and matcha. And if that's not enough sweet treats, they also sell beautifully packaged mini cake boxes. The presentation was gorgeous and it was a delicious and creamy matcha. My friend enjoyed her hibiscus tea. We shared the earl grey croffle and that was delightful as well. The earl grey flavor was prominent in the cream topping and I didn't think it was too sweet. I've never had a croffle before but I really liked this. Imagine putting a croissant into a waffle maker--you have all the layers of a flaky croissant but you have a crispy waffle exterior. There was ample seating considering the Midtown location which I appreciated, so we were able to sit and chat. Our drinks and food came out quickly. I found this to be a little on the pricey side--I got my drink with almond milk and the total came out to nearly $10 and it was probably only 8-10 oz. I questioned whether it was decaf since it was the strongest coffee I've had in a long time. It definitely tasted good! Not much sesame flavor but I liked the creaminess of it. At $8.50 it wouldn't be something I'd have frequently. It also came with a small piece of croffle, which I very much enjoyed dipping in the cream. I ordered the pistachio croffle. It's an appropriate size for 1. I didn't love it. The single piece in my latte somehow tasted better. I think I'd rather try a cookie next time. When my friend suggested coming by for a drink after lunch, I was a bit ambivalent since I thought this was one of those cafés whose drinks and interior are optimised for instagram-worthy photos rather than quality/taste, but wow I was so happy to have been proven wrong. The interior is indeed quite nicely decorated (well, there's a bit of robot-themed art to one side that struck me as thematically a bit out of place). When we got there in the early Sunday afternoon, there were only a few others tables there (it's pretty spacious, plenty of seats available), and we got our drinks really quickly. We both ordered the berry matcha, which came with a little bite of croffle on the rim. Honestly, the croffle bite was pretty bad (and it's their speciality, apparently), so either their pastries are to be avoided, or (we hypothesised that) they were using (maybe day-old) leftovers for the garnish lol. The drink itself was surprisingly delicious, we raved about it afterwards. It's a pretty standard flavour combo - matcha and strawberry - but I thought it was prepared really well. The matcha creme on top wasn't too sweet, and mixing the strawberry jam with the milk was honestly so good. The flavours worked together really well, but the jam was sufficiently thick that it wouldn't fully dissolve or anything, and you could definitely still taste the individual components, too.  Honestly even looking back I'm still quite impressed with how yummy this drink was (much of which was bc it was so flavourful without being overly sweet). Alas, it was really quite expensive for something of this size though (over $9!), so I fear I will not be a regular customer here. I'd love to come back for an occasional splurge though! :) read more
