We found Faye's Cafe a year or two ago when we were looking for lunch in Livingston. We liked it immediately. It looks like the kind of place I would open--the decor is fun and eclectic, the owner/cook is personable, and the food is great. I'm on a special diet and she took my order herself and whipped something up that was delicious and something I could eat. This is a rare thing and was really appreciated. Honestly one of the best dining experiences we (a family of 5) have ever experienced. Our 5 year old has A LOT of food allergies (including but not limited to beef, pork, dairy, wheat, oranges, corn, eggs, soy, etc) so you can imagine it is not easy to find a place to eat. We normally just pick a place where he can have some grilled chicken (for lunch or dinner) or some oatmeal (for breakfast). Of course this gets very boring for a 5 year old (though he is a trooper). The staff was awesome when I told them of his allergies and the chef whipped up something just for him that he loved. The rest of us loved our food as well, though it was his experience that made my day. Thank you so much for everything! read more

Great chef: However, I think she has made simple dishes too complicated. Example: a Reuben with crabmeat, sounds interesting but together.... my palette was all over the place. Dad and I tried Faye's today and to summarize it was great. We arrived to a friendly greeting and started to read the menu. This isn't your normal breakfast fare and we were a bit overwhelmed. The waiter was very helpful and we continued on with our choices. Dad said he was going to get the waffle but I told him to have an open mind. We both went for Faye's choice and ended up with two very different benedicts enchilada benedict and a amazeballs/crab benedict. Both were awesome and neither of us needed anything extra put on. This is a wonderful cafe with great food and a super creative menu. I love eggs Benedict and, like others who posted reviews, I found them to be the best I've ever had. My companion had biscuits and gravy with smoked chicken and his meal was to die for, too. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is casual and very relaxing. Faye is very willing to alter menu items to suit your needs, so if you're vegan or gluten intolerant on a special diet or just plain ol' picky, you will feel welcome. Love this place. We showed up right at the end of the day and what a treasure to find!! Hand crafted food in a beautiful, warm, art filled setting. Chef Sarah Faye created a surprise for me that was an absolute delight. Her culinary expertise is fabulous with different complimenting taste sensations, colors, textures. Turns out she is also a water color media artist which I found very interesting as she creates meals like paintings. A bit of this here, a bit of this there and just right=masterpiece!! The menu is really flexible as you can add all kinds of goodies to different meals. I love the cookbook she put together, it too is a feast for the eyes and my hubby and I (both very cooking impaired) will attempt to recreate some of what we enjoyed today. We decided to venture into town on a lark as we usually stick to frontage roads. Housed in an old but totally refurbished school house, this has been our culinary highlight of the year! The menu here is limited, but there is a lot of attention to the details of flavor, and the cook really understands what she is doing. We had the soup/salad/1/2 sandwich lunch, with iced tea. That sounds pretty standard, right? Well. The iced tea was outstanding. When we asked, we were told it was a mixture of black and other teas. I had half of the stack me up sandwich, even though I am not a big fan of pesto. I was told that the pesto was a light touch, and that proved correct--the sandwich was delicious. My companion had the Reuben sandwich, which she enjoyed, especially the bread. The salad was also very tasty, fresh and crisp, and I left the dressing to the cook, who gave it a dose of two different dressings on opposite sides of the salad. Wow! What a wonderful restaurant. My wife and I started our honeymoon here with a fantastic breakfast! Sarah the chef greeted us with a hot French press coffee and warm smiles! My husband bravely ordered Faye's surprise which is where you simply let her cook for you telling her your likes and dislikes ahead of time. Tremendous! From the minute we walked in we were warmly greeted. The food didn't even have to be good after that welcome. But it was exceptional. It was unique and delicious. First time there and we are happy we searched it out. It's a small place but we were able to get a table without having to wait. The place is spotless, with excellent service and delicious food.
