Fehrenbacher Hoff is the coffee shop next door to Goose Hollow Inn and is owned by the same folks. Pretty sure you can order most of the same food there (at least the Reuben). Great coffee and pastries but the winner is probably the vegetarian breakfast sandwich. It's so incredibly tasty. Unfortunately it's not vegan (I asked) IIRC the bread and cheese both have dairy. This was a lovely place to stop for coffee on a cool fall day! The counter area is pretty small, but there are tons of decorations everywhere and it feels very quaint and cozy. Towards the back, there is additional seating, including the room we sat in with big couches, plush chairs, and little goose statues. There was some Halloween decor up as well for a seasonal touch. Our coffee was very good, came quickly, and because we ordered in, served in two large mugs. It wasn't too sweet, and my partner liked his mocha best. I really enjoyed my latte, but I wouldn't have minded a little sweeter. That's a personal preference though, and I am on the abnormal end of coffee sweetness, I've found. Both drinks were very creamy and very hot-- perfect for sipping while you chat. I also saw that if you order drip coffee, you can choose a mug to take home with you-- how fun! The person working the counter was the owner (I believe) and he was super friendly to us and everyone else who came through. It's clear this place has regulars and he makes an effort to learn their names. I would love to come back again, and next time I will make a point to try one of their breakfast sandwiches. Okay. Hard to describe this place and the experience it provides... maybe start with 'welcomed oddity' or 'unapologetically quirky' as options? Either way, yes. This is a cozy, unique, distinct and beautiful place. Great options for seating outdoors and indoors... the upstairs space was definitely inviting. I'm going to hang out there next time. They serve Coava coffee and Jasmine Pearl tea, so they know what they're doing. I had a latte and a Marionberry muffin. Both were outstanding. Parking is moderately difficult and only available on the street. This place isn't fancy or polished or even modern. It's a mixture of uniqueness with a smattering of unabashed quirks. Referred to as "the Hof," this café inside an old house is certainly unique. It was owned by former mayor of Portland Bud Clark and is now run by his family. It was named for his wife Sigrid. I can see the vision... A gathering place for students and poets, somewhere to hide out upstairs, somewhere for coffee but also somewhere to meet people. The place is decorated with Sigrid's antique toasters, egg beaters, violins, and various other items. It's like an antique store tidied up for guests. Ultimately, it didn't quite work for me, as it felt more dirty and chaotic than charming and quaint. The seating areas had both uncomfortable chairs and minimal pathways to walk by. I got a specialty drink (caramel turtle). The barista had to find me to confirm which one I asked for. It was alright, mostly just tasted like an iced coffee. It came in a to-go cup, so after wandering through the house, I took it to my difficult-to-find parking spot in the area and headed out. It might not be my first choice but I'd give this place another try if I were in the area and in need of caffeine. From other reviews, it looks like folks really enjoy their food as well. read more

I've had this place bookmarked ever since I saw their corned beef breakfast sandwiches! I'm rarely in this area so I came to explore this past weekend and it did not disappoint. It's near the Goose Hollow Inn and is a cute shop tucked away in a building that looks like a home. As you enter, you're greeted with their pastry case (looked great as well). However, I knew what I was coming for and while you can add bacon or sausage I had to get the corned beef for $1.50. It took around 5 mins or so to get the sandwich. The place is fairly small so I was lucky to grab a spot outside and even saw a pig! As for the sandwich, it was perfectly gooey with melted cheese and a crisp english muffin. The slice of tomato adds a nice contrast to the other ingredients and the corned beef was thin so you could get it with each bite. For $8 I was not disappointed and would come back to get it again. Didn't try the coffee this time but the reviews look pretty good so need to check that out as well. read more

Pretty bummed to leave this review cause I love this little place. I watched multiple different people (2) make my breakfast burrito WITHOUT WASHING THEIR HANDS. This is unacceptable, esp in the middle of peak flu season. One gentleman was taking mine and other peoples orders at the cash register and then immediately transitioned to preparing my breakfast burrito, directly touching food ingredients going into said burrito, without washing his hands. When I asked for avocado on mine. He said he had to check if they have any, went outside and downstairs to check to see if more avocados had arrived, to which he found one, and then jumped directly back into the food prep work. Then, another gentleman came in from the back, went directly to the food prep area and I saw him adjusting his shirt and clothes and then started working on the burrito also while the other guy was back on the cash register. I was very bummed and disappointed to see this type of practice cause I like to come here and have always thought the food and coffee were both solid. I hope this business sees this review as an opportunity to fix their unsafe food handling practices immediately. I have gotten food poisoning too many times in my life so I did not eat the burrito but I'd be happy to continue being a return customer and come back to get another one once this action has been corrected. I love everything about the aesthetic of this place, and they make a damn fine Caramel Turtle (or so says my wife). It's just a shame that the baristas were so aloof and disinterested in engaging in anything resembling pleasant conversation; it was all business, and business...wasn't good. They were also out of Kahlua syrup, which meant no Drunken Monkey, which is what my wife initially ordered, so it really should have been wiped off the chalkboard menu. As this was our first visit, and we'd just eaten at the Goose Hollow Inn next door, we didn't sample any sandwiches, burritos or any of the breads and pastries (all of which look incredible). Maybe next time, when we're in the area, hungry, and not feeling particularly conversational. read more

Nearby a friend's spot and needed a place to work remotely. Came in right before open on a weekday and it was pretty slow in the morning. The place legit looks like an old two store house, so that's about how much space you can expect. Upstairs wasn't open while I was there. But I was able to find a nice quiet spot around the corner from the counter. Not a ton of outlets, but it wasn't like looking for a unicorn either. Internet was able to support a zoom meeting any basic emails. Food options were limited, mostly just a breakfast sandwich, breakfast burrito, and some pastries. I got the breakfast sandwich and it was pretty good. The English muffin was soft on the outside but still crispy on its face. All in all, a great low-key quiet study/work spot for the morning at least. Would definitely come back in the future read more

Super adorable spot right opposite the Goose Hollow MAX station. Being slightly off the main street makes this the perfect hideaway spot. The inside is tiny but made cozy with wooden decors and a vintage pastry showcase. No indoor seatings and only a handful of outdoor spots but on a relaxing day this is just what you need. Their menu offers a variety of classic and fun drinks. Food menu is now only limited to breakfast sandwich and burrito but both were pretty dang good. Especially the sandwich. They know how to toast their English Muffin here. Also, how can you say no to the crispy cheese edges. Yummy sauce with a slight kick, pairing well with the rich house corned beef. Was in the area and in search of a little caffeine. Strolled in over to Fehrenbacher Hof. It's a converted house and the inside section was closed due to COVID. No matter, they have a window outside to place your order. There were a couple of people in line in front of me and a couple of people waiting for their order on the sidewalk. Everyone was wearing masks and keeping a distance. I ordered their Chai Tea Latte. They gave me the option of spicy, sweet, or a little of both. A little of both, please. Short wait and my drink was delivered. Very good and hit the spot. My partner said his coffee was excellent. I would like to return to try more. read more
