I'm really not one to write reviews on yelp, but I wanted to make an exception for this place. My boyfriend and I arrived in SF from Seattle for a week long vacation looking like shaggy hobos and walked into FSC on a whim. We left looking like a million bucks and I want to thank Rebecca for that. I hope that's her name... my memory is a little fuzzy after visiting most of the incredible bars and night spots that she suggested we check out and wrote down on a list in her lovely handwriting for us. All around a really fantastic experience and were loving our haircuts. In response to previous reviewers complaining about the first come first serve, wait list only setup: I have to wonder if any of these people have ever been to a barber shop before or if they're used to a salon style system. A wait list is really very common I find it odd that anybody would be surprised by that. Besides, if you put your name down and need to come back in an hour, what are you complaining about? Just moved to SF, live in the Noe/Mission area and took a gamble on Fellow Barber for a men's hair cut (not a fade, a hair cut)....and I lost, big time! A woman, Azika (sp?) cut my hair, and when I asked her to use scissors (because I didn't want a fade or high-and-tight cut) she looked at me as if I was crazy. Through the cut it became more obvious that she didn't know how to cut hair with scissors (shouldn't that be a requirement?) I realize she may have been new to the profession. So for $40 I received a bad haircut and DIDN'T get a back of the neck shave with foam and a blade, which is standard in any barbershop these days. End result, within an hour of getting my hair cut I'm looking for another place that can fix it today. If you're looking for a quick fade or a high-and-tight clipper job, Fellow Barber can probably give you what you're looking for. If you're looking for a good hair cut, look elsewhere. The faux old west vibe is cool but their talent fell way short. The don't do the Mission proud, nor their Brooklyn roots. read more

Disclaimer: I haven't been here. This is a review for my favorite barber, Gavin. He recently moved to your area and works at this place. I don't usually write reviews but I do when something is really good. Here is my review for Gavin: Gavin is a great barber. I'm always happy with what he does. He always takes the time to get it right and is meticulous in his process. He can scissor cut crazy short if you need him to or he can clipper it so no hair is left uncut. I had an issue with one staff member who said something I found quite offensive, but after I brought it up they were apologetic and remorseful and really did try to make it right. It left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth but I can see that these are genuinely decent people. read more

Great haircuts, but the amount of time you have to wait to grab a barber is a pain. It's become the Dottie's of barbershops...I mean, GREAT pancakes, but just not worth waiting three hours for. If all you need to do in a single day is get your hair cut, this is your spot. read more

When I find businesses like this, I wish I were a man, able to fully enjoy the careful hands of the non-murderous barbers of Valencia Street. Such charisma and style affect these meer mortals and I can't say enough about their knowledge and service. Service in a non kiss you fanny way. Online booking tool is a joke. You try to sign up for a slot but the system just times outs. Then when you call to try and sort things out the phone. My time is valuable and I need to be able to make an appointment for a specific time of day. I don't have the luxury of waiting around until I am next in the queue. read more

Overall my experience was a poor one. I am not sure if it was that I went in on a day where everyone was in a bad mood or not but I did not leave this place in a good mood my self. When I first arrived I was greeted by a less then pleasant host who seemed annoyed at the fact that I didn't give him my full name. It was my first time to this barber shop and obviously I am not aware as to how they do business. The hair stylist was not per say friendly either but gave me a satisfactory haircut. Nothing that blows me away for $45 dollars though. I was then checked out by the same host who again seemed annoyed that I was making him do his job. I asked how I may tip the hair stylist and he says cash or venmo. I said I'd like to use venmo and ask how I may do that. He looked at me in an arrogant way and says you need to download the app and make a profile and link you bank account. I explained that I have venmo, not playing into his arrogant tone, what I was asking was how I can venmo the hair stylist. He points to a peace of paper again annoyed that he had to do his job. And I took the information fearing of asking him another question and left. So I don't know if I just went in on a bad day or not but it left me feeling crappy and after having to pay $45 for a haircut plus a $10 tip I should have a least been treated a little nicer. That was my personal experience. I wish them luck but I probably want ever go back. read more

My boyfriend came here and even though we got there are 11am and they told us we'd have to come back at 115pm it was a great experience. They had a ton of magazines for people waiting, but most of all they were super dog friendly and let me sit inside with my dog while we waited. read more

Been here a few times now and generally have all been very awesome. Some people like the walk-ins only policy but I would really love to know I can walk in, not wait an hour and get to business. Lila gave me my last haircut there and it was phenomenal. It was as if she were evoking Michelangelo and my hair was the stone. Seriously the best haircut ever. I've received a couple of shaves there, some better than others. I think I'm anatomically repellant so I don't necessarily blame anyone for the times that weren't as good. The experience however was lovely, attentive and relaxing to say the least. No skimping on the lathers, lotions, ointments and cool/warm towels. Some say they're too steep for what they offer, but a top notch haircut for $40 in my opinion is just fine, I've paid more for much much worse. read more

Recently they made it so that you can get on the waiting list if you sign up online starting at 9:30am. The list would fill up sometimes by 10am. Luckily, they updated their system and now you can book appointments for a specific barber ahead of time. Huge Huge improvement. read more

I use to go to a nearby Barber and it just so happened she was closed for holidays. I stumbled across Fellow Barber and received a haircut from Roland. From that day I have not looked back. He's awesome, has great suggestions on what to do with my hair, how to style it and take care of it. I always look forward to my hair appointments and catching up with Roland every month! FSC is by far the best barber shop I've ever been to and I've been going for a couple years now. Before, every single barber or salon I went to never cut my hair exactly how I had hoped, but amazingly enough FSC delivers every single time. I truly give them 5 stars because I have always been satisfied with my haircut with every barber there. The only downfall which isnt even bad is that you have to wait a few hours if you show up later in the day. Just be patient and reverent or go for a walk around the mission until your appointment arrives. Anyhow, I currently get my hair cut by Colleen Henry, she does an exquisite job and pays close attention to every hair she cuts. Definitely ask for her if want an awesome haircut. read more

This is my go to place. Yes, the wait is long but it's worth it. I typically go with the same girl but if I don't I still get amazing cuts.

No doubt that this is a welcome and incredible addition to the area. I love the barbershop - not to mention the store with unique American and hand made leather goods. You get what you paid for - and that's quality and attention to detail. I tend to get a quality haircut at Nice cuts in the Castro. So I might just keep to that to save a dollar... Or two. read more

Great haircut. I'm really picky with my hair and nothing is worse than a rushed and botched haircut. My barber really took his time cutting my hair. If I'm in the city, I'll stop by and put my name down. It's a little irritating that they only have a walk-in policy as I don't live in the city, but overall this is the best place in the city that offers cuts at a reasonable price for the quality. read more

Fellow Barber is a relaxed, well-designed place for a guy to get a fantastic haircut. I've had several barbers, all great, but keep returning to Omar, who I like because of his perfectionism. I also like his ideas for trying something new with my hair, and always get compliments from friends. Drove all the way from palo alto for a 6:00 o'clock appointment. someone called and said cut off is 6:10. Got there at 6:12, got turned away. I understand this place is busy all the time but it also a shame cause there was literally no one in the shop when i walked in. I will most defiantly not come back here. read more

If you want a great fade or polished look, definitely go to F.S.C. It's quite the dapper-looking shop, maybe a little over the top when you go inside (shoe shine in the corner) but a little extra pizzaz never hurt. Overall, you can get a solid cut from any of the barbers (I usually walk in and go to the next available) although my top favorites would be Heidi, Sarah, and Alfonzo. The down side is that if you want to get in on a weekend day, expect a long wait. They don't take reservations. Also, for those of us who need to get a haircut once a month, $40 bucks a piece does add up, especially after a proper tip. Yet, I will continue to be a loyal F.S.C customer as it's reliable, easily accessible (located in the mission), and always leaves me feeling confident and happy. read more

The haircuts are excellent and the stylists are really good. I've never had a bad haircut here. That said: be prepared to wait forever. Most of the time I show up I am asked to come back anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours later. Then after arriving at the designated time I usually wait another 20 to 30 minutes. So give yourself a good 2 hours at least if you're interested in coming. read more
