I came here a month ago for a senior barber service and didn't know what to expect for the hefty price. At least it would include some extra time, maybe more effort with a more seasoned barber, or even a shampoo/style. Nope. 20min just like supercuts. He did a good job, but it seemed like he was going thru something, who doesn't now and then? Decided to give him another try. I came back today and asked for the same guy - maybe he had a bad day the last time. I walk in and he sees me, then he walks outside to chat on his phone for another 5min. No joke. Then comes in and gets to work. No small talk, even got a bit of an attitude, then stops to text during the cut. It didn't seem like he wanted to be there. Not a great cut this time, uneven here and there. Ok, getting a haircut in the mission has hit an all-time low for me. Going back to one of the real barbershops in the mission, where you just show up and wait for a cut. Done I say. Done. And many of the new restaurants popping up here are terrible. I went to this place for a beard cut. This was my second time visiting this establishment. I tried a different barber than the previous visit (which had been friendlier). His manner with the opposite of 'customer friendly'. Before I even sat down his manner and body language indicated that I was wasting his time. The whole experience felt like either the guy was very unhappy being a barber , or he'd already had some bad association in his mind the first time he saw me (or something). Whatever the case, even though the beard cut was OK (I just was there for a beard cut) the general feeling was that he couldn't wait for me to leave his chair. ...., maybe he had a bad night or was having a bad life, or some such case. Whatever the case, I am old enough and experienced enough to tell the difference between friendly customer service and its opposite. My experience was the latter. Be warned before you go to this establishment that you may be treated like just another object in their cash flow. read more

I have been to this place several times and the haircuts are very good, unfortunately the management staff seems a bit unversed in managing situations the require discretion and therefore will not be coming here again. They have an online system that allows you to check in online. Today I used that to get in a 2:57pm checkin with a screen attached. Unfortunately the confirmation screen is not actually a confirmation screen and requires another step. This is typically called user error, and technically is- there was a final confirm screen. Nonetheless, I planned my day around this haircut - boy do I need a new one- and when I arrived was told, very nicely that the last step is confusing and that I needed to confirm it. I lol'd and said, cool I'll remember it next time- happy to wait 10-15 mins extra so you can squeeze me in. No sir, we're fully booked. What? But I have a screencap of the almost confirmation screen - see? Yes I see that, I'm very sorry- someone may cancel if you hang around, were very busy today. I know- that's why I made the appointment at 11:57 and had a 3 hour almost virtual wait. We understand sir. Can I talk to the manager? Yes that's me. Ok, well why don't you work with the customers behind me and then we'll talk. (Giving time for things to cool). 1 minute later, ok, so can you help me? Sorry sir. I went to Mary's Barber Shop at 3430 20th street $10. 341-8014. Cell: 574-6824 Details: I went to get my haircut there and the guy who cut my hair, who seemed like a nice guy, did an ok job. I knew he wasn't taking enough off the top and I said this repeatedly. Yet he still left the top too long and the resulting Kramer-esq-ness shortly became apparent. He did say "I stand by my work so come back if you want it fixed-up." Fair enough I thought. And so the next night I tried to get in there but parking was way too tough so I gave up. I then came back today, six days later, after calling to see when this guy was on. I rode my bike to avoid the parking hassle. When I arrived, after standing around waiting for the two attendants to stop chatting/ignoring me, they looked at me like "What?! What do you want? but they did cordially say "Hi." They told me he had a few walk-ins ahead of me and it would be about 60-90 minutes. I said, I'll come back later, which I was considering. I then saw the barber sitting outside, I went over to see if possibly he could fit me in. I could tell he'd either been in a fight or fallen on his face since I saw him last as his face was recovering from some serious bruises. I don't know how that relates to the story but it just doesn't look so professional. He told me he had a few folks in front of me and it would be a while, confirming what the front desk said. He knew this was just for a 'touch-up.' I was pensive for a moment and then I said 'ok.' As I walked away I looked inside and noticed about six of the 12 barber chairs vacant, and I thought... 'One with true concern regarding customer satisfaction would have gotten up and taken the 10 minutes that it takes to squeeze me in for this minor fixing of my dew.' And I still think that. I had high hopes when this place opened since I live around the corner. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get a haircut even after showing up a few minutes after they open. On two separate weekends, I was told to come back in one or two hours, and when I returned at the designated time I was told they're behind and it's going to be another hour. Waited a lovely 8 minutes on hold to make my appointment, when I showed up, on time, I was made to wait 15 minutes in their hip barber awkwardly next to 3 other guys in the same boat. When I finally got around to getting a haircut the barber gave me numerous recommendations of he should cut my when I clearly asked for a fade. The barber continued to pressure me into shortening my top. Haircut done. Let me pay and get the hell out...but wait there's more! Wait another 6 minutes to have the overwhelmed host take care of payment! High fives all around. I have mixed feelings about Fellow Barber. First, let me start out with the good. I LOVE Priscilla, she's always so friendly and talkative, and she cuts my hair just how I like it! She always makes me feel welcomed, but I can't say this about the staff as a whole. I went in the other day and the receptionist was talking with her coworker. I said "Hi!" and they both looked at me as if I interrupted their conversation. No response. They just looked at me. They didn't greet me and they weren't the slightest bit warm or receptive. I even had to ask if they were open because they looked at me like I was interrupting a meeting of some sort. Nope, no meeting, just horrible customer service skills. After my experience I have to say, Fellow Barber has lost a loyal customer. I'm sad to write this review as I so wanted to like this place. I called on the mission location on Feb. 18th to gauge the approximate wait and was told 75 mins and to sign in online. I did just that and had a time slot of 5:15. While driving from my office they called me and asked if I could come in sooner. I let them know I was on 880 and couldn't make it sooner. They stated it was okay. When I walked in at 5:05 they acted like I had no appointment and after explaining the phone calls and online booking they asked me to wait as they would try and correct their mistake. After 20 minutes they said they could cut my hair at 7:30. Long story short... They could care less that I showed up on time and confirmed when I should be there. They have very poor customer service and could care less about customer satisfaction. It too bad... But it's time to move on. Only go here if you have no other choice. read more

I have a beard went there to have a trim waited an hour and a half for a new person.. She swore she was better than the guy I go to... The reason I'm writing this is she kind of trashed the guy go to... His name is Oscar very Good barber very good at trimming beards.. I just didn't like that she said she's so much better than him I don't think that's very cool... So she sat me down barely would listen to how I wanted To trim my beard I also have a mustache That I wax I wanted to Waxie to keep it out of the way she didn't like that... So she trimmed my beard and she would barely let me look at the beard and tells me I need to get out of the chair because she has to hurry up... I waited an hour and a half the attitude of the people around there is awful... I work with the public myself I'm a bartender and I will not recommend this place for anybody.. The whole walk in saying and no appointment really is stupid... Also the clothing shop I've been in there three or four times and the guy will never even talk to me .... A victim of your own sucess..... As an early pioneer of FSC barber i was super happy when they opened their doors. SF had been crying out for an old school barbers and FSC was just the tonic. I love the fact you can just walk in, take a seat, wait for a short while and then get a good cut at a good price. Well no longer.... i hate to say it FSC but our love affair is over.... having to wait 1.5hrs to get a decent cut just doesn't cut it any longer. This wasn't a singular affair either and it certainly wasn't at peak times. The whole premise of a men's barber is that unlike women's hair cut it doesn't take 1.5hrs to cut our hair cut. This lends itself to taking walk in's, and having grown up in england i know this model can work. You guys need to add barbers urgently or start taking appointments. Its simple as that. I really like Lizzy's cuts and i would love to spend my hard earned cash with you, but not when there is a 1.5hr wait. Get it together and i'll be back. read more

Been 4 times now. The first was a decent cut, second great. Third, couldn't wait the hour+ and then yesterday after being told that 3pm on a Wed is the slowest time, went in and again 1 hour. You can't make an appointment with the barber you like and the wait is horrendous. I gotta say this is a pain in the @$$. After all who has minimum of an hour and a half to get a hair cut? It also feels a little precious and we have enough of that already in SF, wouldn't recommend it or go back. read more

So.. I am a San Francisco NATIVE. I grew up in the mission before all of the changes and transplants.. I have walked by this place many of times and from the looks of it the Barber shop seemed friendly and looking at the work they had in the chairs it seemed pristine. My boyfriend had been growing his hair out for a few months and i finally convinced him to try out a barber instead of a salon.. I will admit the Barber was wonderful forgot his name. He was a Tall light complected man with a Beard i believe it was brown/reddish. My boyfriend was smiling wich means he was comfortable and happy with the BARBERS service. Upon entering there was no welcoming greeting mind you i had walked in a few days prior to get a business card and there was still no greeting or anyone educating me on there price list or again a simple, "Hello, how are you?" and there was no one in the front waiting to be helped. Just some guy standing there bored out of his mind or on some kind of social media... When i initially explained that it was our first time blah blah blah.. he looked at me in a daze and said, "The next appointment is in uuuuh" clicked his little screen a couple times then said an hour and a half? Obviously ive worked in customer service and anyone who is willing to pay for a service should get it immediately especially if there is no one in the salon waiting and there are a few chairs open with stylist just cleaning their tools?? I gave it a 2 star because my man was happy but i wasnt feeling the sevice from the chick and dude at the front desk.. Get more "People Friendly" people in the front of your shop.... Ben is my go-to guy these days. Sometimes hard to book with him since he's popular, but I can see why. Always gives me a great, consistent haircut, and is a super personable guy who is great to talk to. Usually I dread talking to my barber, but always look forward to my visit with him. Easy to schedule online, and have always been really happy with my haircut. Highly recommended! Kind of pricey, but I've found that you get what you pay for when it comes to a haircut, definitely worth it. read more

The appointment system here, or lack thereof, leaves a lot to be desired. They say they don't take appointments however I arrived at 4:45 and was told the next available cut from my desired stylist was at 8....a 3 hour wait...really??? There was only 4 people waiting and about 4 stylists working. I asked if all these people were waiting for my stylist Alder and was told no. I then asked how the "list" actually worked. Apparently you can come to the salon about an hour before your desired stylist works and put your name on the "list"....so in effect they do take appointments, just not over the phone. Who on earth has time to come mid day to put their name on the list then come back later for a cut. This is the most archaic system I've ever seen and given the hundreds of salons in the City not worth the time or hassle. Alder is a good stylist and would easily make triple earnings at other salons given his talent. The manager Jonah was receptive to my comments so we'll see if there is a change any time soon. The barbers are great and merit 5 stars. But the obnoxious policy of not being able to call ahead, make an appointment day-of, or schedule in advance make it impossible to be a loyal, repeat customer. Really short-sighted business model. Extremely frustrating. Look elsewhere for a good barber and a shop that respects your time. read more

I came here to get my hair cut on the summer solstice of 2016. I remember it with such accuracy because the dude who cut my hair said he had never heard of the summer solstice. I told him that it was the longest day of the year, with respect to daylight. He asked me, if this is the day with the most sunlight, then how come it's not that hot? I tried explaining why there is no relationship between the hottest day of the year and the summer solstice, but he still just commented on it being not that hot. Haven't been back since. I went to FSC for a new hipster cut and to get my first shave, both came out great, I am very happy with the results, though I have to say I was very dis satisfied with level of customer service I received. I was tended to by a young woman with longish hair who was particularly unfriendly, curt and borderline rude. I get it, it's tough to work in the service industry and deal with customers all day but when you're paying that much for a hair cut and also having someone shave your face (which is very intimate and kind of scary) I really don't think it's too much to ask to make a little friendly conversation and make sure your customer is comfortable. Nice cut and shave but for a place that charges for customer service, they fell well short. read more
