I had this in 2019 and I rmemeber it like it was yesterday. I got a matcha latte w/ oat milk and a sandwich with amazing potatoes & a bagel w/ almond butter. The other two dishes were my friends who I traveled with to nashville, TN. The food and service here was so good' the atmosphere was so big and cozy. Really friendly service even tho we got a ton of looks. This breakfast was so well balanced and so good for our adventure following this and I would HIGHLY recommend this place! Was hoping to get some great service and good coffee at a cute coffee shop while neither existed. They were closing soon, but nobody proceeded to tell us we were not in a line as we let someone order before us and then several people came in and went to where the line should have been. They rudely told us they were only taking coffee orders, which we were only ordering coffee. We figured out we were not in line and had to go to the end of a long line at this point. Well it's a sad day to be writing this. Fido used to be one of my favorite restaurants in nashville. For context I'm a nashville native and have lived here for 26 years. I was a regular at Fido for years. I honestly think they had one of the best burgers in nashville too. The fries were to die for with an aioli that you could drink. The breakfast was worth waking up early to beat the crowd for. The coffee was great too! They always had the best music playing throughout the restaurant. It was a unique spot with something delicious for any meal of the day...so good that you could look past the strange interior. Fast forward past many menu changes, management changes, many food-to-table systems (for real too many to count), and finally to just a flat out minimal effort on the menu as a whole. This morning I got one of the few items left on the menu that I loved from the beginning: Pete's breakfast. The menu describes, "two scrambled eggs with tomatillo salsa, Monterey Jack & cheddar cheese, [choice of protein], served with hash browns, red salsa, sour cream, and flour tortillas. FYI, I did order this meal without cheese or sour cream, but cheese did not make this dish what it used to be. What I received: a pale failed omelet, half of which filled with strange varying chunks of veggie sausage, covered in an abundance of oil, not seasoned whatsoever. I got a "side" of no where near crispy potatoes, which was less than half the size of the potato portion that another member of my group received...and the potatoes were covered in what seemed to be Parmesan cheese (reminder I ordered my meal with no cheese). The tomatillo salsa in the "scrambled" eggs was tasteless, the red salsa was more hydrating than my glass of water. So what I was left with was a tortilla filled with unseasoned, oily "scrambled" eggs, strange tasteless chunks of sausage, and watery salsa. The whole thing tasted like watery oil. Don't misread this, this was not just a bad day for Fido. I've spent the last two years giving Fido "one more chance," because I truly loved this restaurant. But now it's just a barebones, bland menu inside a music-less building with chairs that sound like a fog horn when you move them, and they have even reached a point where they have more variety in merch than their "fresh" pastries. Also last issue...there was definitely a man taking a sink shower in the bathroom... Fido, I know the restaurant industry is tough, especially in nashville. But you were what made Hillsboro village not just a tourist trap. Now you're just a backup plan if the line is too long at pancake pantry. read more

Fido was a quaint place with great customer service. We each ordered a Mamosa for breakfast and a latte and coffee while waiting for our breakfast. My fiancé loves a great bagel sandwich and he was not disappointed with what he ordered. I ordered an omelette with some side potatoes and it arrived with fresh vegetables and tasted delicious. Before leaving for Nashville, my coworker who is a native to Nashville recommended that if I loved coffee Fido was a must try. Before leaving Nashville we knew we were going to be in the Hillsboro area, so we drove down there. On the way to the shop we saw how cute of a neighborhood Hillsboro is, it is located in-between a bunch of shops and has parking in the back. We went to get a parking ticket to park, but it was free for the first hour and a half, I am not 100% sure if this is due to it being a weekday. When we walked up we loved the mural they had, we even found a dog with a tag name of my partners dog. When we got inside it was a cute little shop and they were celebrating their 25th anniversary! When we ordered we got a free mug with their mascot on it, which we loved and cannot stop drinking our coffee at home in. I ordered the brown brown sugar and my partner got the vanilla honey. The coffee was average priced, being around $5-6. The service was incredible and the workers were very kind. We both raved and mutually agreed it was the best coffee we probably have ever had. I love this place. It's an old Nahville staple and to be honest I had not been there in years until yesterday. My daughter wanted breakfast after we had been to an event and it was almost noon. The Pantry always has a long line so we opted for Fido. The funky easy-going vibe makes it welcoming to anyone. The coffee is great and my daughter got a hot chocolate that was beautiful. One of Nashville's most walkable neighborhoods, Hillsboro Village has a variety of dining options, an indie movie theater with full bar and coffee shops. I made the trek from the main downtown area to try out the late-night cafe called Fido, which reminded me of one of my favorite DC-based cafes called Tryst. It has a variety of coffee along with a full menu offered late into the evening. It is just steps from Vanderbilt University and seems like a popular study spot with a good wifi connection. The space is very large with separate rooms, large tables and hightop bar stools that line the front of the cafe by the windows that overlook the main street outside. They have a full menu and I had the turkey and brie sandwich that was pretty tasty. Nashville seems to be thriving more than ever. I can't wait for our next visit! read more

If you want good breakfast in Nashville you just have to make yourself understand that you're going to have to wait in line. The line looked scary but it moves pretty fast and there is plenty of seating. They have a nice array of dishes that with a little or no modification can be turned into the vegan meal of your dreams. They also have vegan and glutton free muffins & cookies. You order at the counter and they give you a little beeper (with a cute dog, our dog was Pete). This is so they can locate you. The great thing is that if you're in a group paying separately they put you one one order and split your check so all the food comes out together. I had the Med-Veg, which was a bagel with house made hummus (delicious), tomato, cucumber and red onion. For $3 I added the avocado. They didn't skimp on the avocado, so I wasn't annoyed that at home I buy avocado for $1. I also had hot chocolate made with almond milk. It could have been a little hotter but it was tasty! An offshoot branch of Bongo Java in a former pet store where I once bought a salamander in my youth, this spot has become one of the best things in Nashville and I am so relieved they have re-opened, I am holding my breath till they start staying open later again. Their coffee drinks are great and seasonal specials around the fall and holidays are especially good. Their food menu and specials is where they unexpectedly shine and have evolved greatly over the years, from breakfast selections to snacks to carefully curated entree specials at dinner, you'll be sure to find something to like. Coffee was good. Patatas Bravas (special) was good in principle but not really in actuality. The dish was potatoes, garlic cream sauce, tomato puree, crispy prosciutto, and a fried egg on top. I had high hopes looking at the ingredients, but the tomato puree mixed with the garlic cream sauce was too salty for me. It was also a little on the heavy for side. If this was more on the light side with the sauces drizzled on the potatoes instead of smothered, then I think this would have done much better for me. I've been coming here for almost a decade and I'm sorry to say that the standards have plummeted. A nashville original, Fido's used to be the place you could both go to or recommend without a second thought. Since mid 2019 and now (Jan 2020) I've visited 3 times. Each visit I'm hoping the bad service (staff had no idea what certain baked goods were, declaring with aloofness ' I don't know I guess it's a chocolate thing....or almond thing'), and bland food will improve--but not the case. Today I ordered a simple McFido (bagel with scrambled eggs and cheese). My bagel is greasy and squished (how does that even happen) the eggs don't even taste like eggs (dry, worse than airplane eggs) and the cheese was only melted in the middle and cold at the edges. The only saving grace are the innovative coffee drinks. There are so many more comprehensive brunch, lunch and coffee places in nashville that even though Fido is close to work--I'll go elsewhere. As far as coffee shops go, this one is a hidden gem. The overall feeling is very friendly and vibey, the wait staff is upbeat and sweet & the drinks and food are quite well done. I am an avid matcha latte drinker, and their blend is very good. The blend of matcha to oat milk is great, and there are rarely chunks of matcha floating around which is always a good sign. The only food I've had is the mushroom toast and let me tell you, it is divine. The tomato marmalade is very tasty and blended with the cheese spread it is great! The mushrooms on top of the baguette were plentiful which is very hard to find. Overall, love the vibes, love the service, and the food & drink is great!! read more
