Food is just average, I've been going there for years since I live close but find myself not going as often now since a change of ownership about a year ago has made some undesirable changes including higher prices, charging extra for more tortillas with fajitas & quality of food just being average for a Mexican restaurant. My girlfriend and I go here about once a week and we try different things each time. We usually go during the lunch specials on the weekends and you really can't beat the price (even with their dinner menu). The fried chimichanga is my absolute favorite, and my girlriends favorite is the burrito fajita... and the cheese dip with chorizo. The service is always really good, no complains there.. This was my first time in fiesta maya thought of trying Mexican food. It was very quite on Sunday 7:30pm when I went and only a couple of tables are filled. It's a clean restaurant. The chips was not good as I expected(may be because I recently came from Texas). Reading the reviews I thought of trying hot sauce but I didn't like it much. The server was punctual and our food was served in time. My Fajita was served hot and enough for me to take home and eat the next day. :) . The taste of food was ok and that's why 3 star but we enjoyed the nice and calm place. read more

I frequent this restaurant often and I've always had wonderful service and food was delicious every single time. The only thing I wished was a little better was the drink specials. The atmosphere is nice, giving you a sense of the culture while listening to the music, the art along the walls adds a nice depth to the surroundings. The worst customer service ever at the hands of the owner. Horrible attitude. Increased the price for ceviche and when I questioned it, he became agitated. Have been going to Fiesta Maya for a while since it is close to home and was concerned when I heard it had a new owner. Glad to report the food is still good (my favorite is the Cheese Staek Buritto), the service good and the prices very good. They make a great margaritta too! This is a nice little spot. The food is well priced and good I think, plus the portion are more than enough to fill me up. I have been doing here about once a month for a year or so. However in this time, the service has always been alright, nothing special, but they get your food to you. When I went on 10/28/16, I went on my lunch break with a few friends from work, and we go out basically 2-3 times a week. Always get good service where ever we go, but during our visit here at Fiesta Maya, we have Elvin serve us. To start the meal, he seemed like he was in a rush to get our order (not bad since we were on lunch), but we ordered some Verde salsa before our meals, which took as long as the meal did the cook and bring out. That was disappointing, but not as bad as when Elvin brought me the wrong food. First, he only brought out one part of my meal, then after about another 5 minutes, and my friends were half way done with their meal, he brought me what I'm guessing is a meatloaf type deal. I waited for Elvin to come back, not until my friend had to flag him down. I informed him that my food was incorrect, which he proceeded to tell me I was wrong and should eat it. I told him I ordered another meal, which he went to get a menu to show me I was wrong. After bickering for another 10 minutes, he finally agreed to bring me what I actually ordered (my friends were done eating by time he finally got the food to me). Now their food is good and I have always been pleased, but Elvin brought me a lukewarm meal, which I ate because I was trying to get back to work. When he brought the check, he did charge me correctly, which I was surprised because of his own mistake. What's even worse, we paid, and he short changed my friend who is also a regular at this restaurant. Overall, the food was meh, the service was absolutely horrible, I would recommend going there, but if Elvin is your server, I suggest you run, FAST in any direction away from him. read more

I love the University City area since this is where we chose to move about 11 years ago. I have been eating at Fiesta Maya for so long I can't even remember when it opened and I have outlasted all but one of the servers and a manager as there has been a change in manager in the last year from the original when it opened. When we moved here, I asked about a Mexican Restaurant and was disappointed by all that I was recommended- Monterrey, Azteca, Zapatas, and another that I don't even think is open anymore. I had given up on finding a Mexican restaurant that I would like up here and then Fiesta Maya opened. I was so happy!!! The enchiladas suiza are very good- for the review criticizing the sauce, how do you think they make a Monterey Jack cheese sauce? They also have sour cream on top along with the guacamole salad and rice. The lunch specials are your standard fare: Speedy Gonzales, burrito, taco rice, etc. but are at a very good price. The enchilada verdes is made with a good tomatillo sauce ( I am picky about my green sauce) and the fajitas are good as well, though they don't have the most taste with the meat. Refried beans are solid, tacos have plenty of yummy Monty Jack on top and the brown sauce on the regular enchiladas is good, too. The new manager brought in a new cook, I think, because some of the items are made a little better than before and maybe changed the food service company. I have been in when the chips are stale, but then they aren't made fresh on site, either, and the salsa is pretty good. We are regulars, so they make a comment about missing us when several weeks go by and we haven't been in. I would think that description right there would suffice to say all you need to know about the quality of this restaurant, but then what you are looking for may be different than myself. They are friendly and I usually have the same two waiters. For the price, you can certainly afford to give it a try. I don't think you will be disappointed. read more

My husband took me out to dinner for my 69th birthday .... he doesn't care for Mexican food but since it was my birthday I got to choose. We arrived approximately 6:30 p.m. on a Saturday and only a few tables were occupied. A hostess was seated at the entrance but didn't acknowledge us when we entered - she just kept texting and looking at her phone. We finally asked it we were supposed to seat ourselves? No response other than to ask "two?" She then grabbed two menus and led us to our table. A waiter presented himself almost immediately and took our drink orders (we had to ask for water after he brought our drinks.) We were brought a basket of chips and a serving of salsa. The waiter then took our order and that was the last time he acknowledged our presence. We flagged down another server and were brought a take-out box after which we had to ask someone else for our check. The check included a charge for beans & rice which I ordered but did not receive. The charge was removed from our check but we received no apology. The food was pretty good; nothing to write home about, but we will never return. Hopefully your experience will be better! read more

Food was pretty nondescript, but it was the arrogant and rude service that is the catalyst for this rating. My friend ordered a Manhattan Red Apple Martini, even providing the breakdown of ingredients. The bartender did not get it right, as evidenced by the color of the drink. Since one of the three ingredients was equal part cranberry juice, the drink's color should have been red to reflect it's name. It was not. When asked to correct, the bartender argued and insisted he was right. His manager simply shrugged, with no comment, after being told about the unsatisfactory response from the bartender. Needless to say, this soured our visit, which was the first. It's a shame this restaurant precluded any future business, including word of mouth, because the adage "the customer is always right" wasn't adhered. Oh well......adios. read more

Years ago I rated this place fairly well. Back then I enjoyed it a lot better. Today I was so disappointed and frustrated. Ordered the Fajitas Diablas and then had to wait 15 minutes before I received the tortillas. I tried to eat without tortillas but the meat was so salty I really needed the tortillas. By the time they arrived everything was cold. Only got 2 tortillas too which isn't enough. I would expect 3 like most other restaurants. Bad service, good has gone downhill. read more

This is now my favorite restaurant. I love their Super Quesadilla made vegan style with refried beans and the Vegetarian Fajitas. My family enjoys the large variety of selections on the menu. Their margaritas are huge and the best around. The service is excellent. They are very friendly and efficient. I drive a long distance to get there. But, it's worth the drive. read more

Good food, great prices and the servers are the most friendly I've found. I come in here all the time with my wife and the server knows my order by heart. It gets really crowded Fridays and I suggest making a reservation. They give away margaritas on Fridays also I believe. read more

We have been there several times and although we were never impressed we live 2 minutes away so it was very convenient. The food is ok but the servers are dishonest and rude. My fiancé and I ordered their large margarita and the server talked us into some kind of upgraded super fresh margarita with 6 shots of liquor and with a $17 price tag. We are not alcoholics but we know what a 6 shot Margarita tastes like and this was not even close to 2 shots! When we questioned them about it but the server immediately got nervous and defensive. We paid our tab but will never return to this restaurant again. There are other Mexican restaurants close by that we love! read more
