I definitely ordered wrong after reading all of the 5 star reviews. I was just not a fan of this place. The food was very mediocre....fast food Chinese. I ordered the sesame chicken. It definitely came out fast and hot, but it was not that great. The chicken was kind of mushy. The sauce was very sweet...way too sweet and it tasted like it was heated up out of a bag. If I return, I will try one of their stir fry's or curry's. If you are looking for something quick and easy, this is definitely the way to go, but if you are looking for something authentic or good, I would choose somewhere different. read more

Oh my gosh!!! Can I tell you how ECSTATIC I was to find an Asian eatery with yummy gluten AND soy free options?!!! This place had so many delicious things to choose from! I chose a make your own bowl with chicken, veggies, brown rice and lemongrass basil sauce. It was so flavorful and fresh! Such large portion sizes too! Two of my kids had a bowl of the hot and sour soup and spring rolls. BTW, the bowls are gigantic...they should have got the cup size. And my husband and other daughter got a make your own bowl. I remember choking on beef and throwing up here as a kid, thought I'd give it another try as an adult. Tastes like frozen/canned veggies and does not live up to any hype. Prices are high and it's difficult to justify spending up to $15/person on really really mediocre "Asian" food. So I went to lunch earlier at Fire Bowl since I haven't been in awhile in person. Got the Thai basil fried rice,pork egg roll and hot sour soup. All were good but I noticed some things about the restaurant. They took away all the condiments, alcohol, napkins and all they have is sambal packets besides the chopsticks and to go silverware. Meals are also now served in paper bowls and cups. I guess thats not a total bad thing because it cuts down the labor of cleaning but it also creates so much more trash. My theory is they are probably hurting some so decided to take out anything extra to add to your food at the little bar and they saving labor as well. Great food but... just do not call in for a pick order... Austin great hills location. Last time I ordered, they gave away my order and made me wait for another 15 mins. Did not offer any discount or anything... just blamed it on the customer who took the food. Sad. But I ignored it. Place another order today. Just to wait again because the cashier can not run payments or was not properly trained. Why? Again just made me wait, told them about the repeated poor service... they don't care. I placed a pick up, so that I don't have to wait since I'm on a tight schedule. This defeats the whole point. The food is still pretty good, thanks to the cooks, but the owners, management and front end employees Sabotages the whole experience. Your team is only has good as your weakest link... and all the weak links are on the front line. Again I'll prolly still come because my girlfriend likes the food. The important thing to note: the bowls are shaped wide and shallow. This makes it appear that you're not getting a very large portion. I'm here to tell you that your eyes deceive you, and the portions are really quite sizeable. I can never finish my bowl every time I come and can make a second meal out of it. Not bad for $7.75! Fire Bowl Cafe is a hit-or-miss depending on what you order. As a general rule, the "fresher" and more "vegan" your selections (e.g. choosing tofu vs. pork, brown rice vs. lo mein noodles), the better it is. Stay away from the heavily fried options (like fried rice, lo mein, orange chicken), as they tend to be oily and greasy. However. My usual order is a "Stir Fry Your Way" bowl with the following ingredients: organic tofu, thai veggie mix (carrots, baby corn, mushroom, edamame, zucchini), lemongrass basil sauce, and brown rice. It always tastes fresh and filling every time. I don't see pools of oil in my rice bowl. And if you're not a fan of lemongrass, let me just say that it goes beautifully with tofu. Long story short - great place to eat if you're ordering on the healthier side of things. Definitely stay away from their Americanized Chinese dishes (General Tso's, orange chicken, sweet & sour, etc.) which just felt overwhelmingly greasy (and also don't taste quite like what you're used to from Panda Express). read more

I had very low expectations of Fire Bowl Cafe and was pleasantly surprised to find the following: ~ a bar serving wine and beer ~ healthy options to include build your own stir fries ~ an inviting clean dining area ~ quick and friendly service ~ happy hour ~ no added MSG I finally tried Fire Bowl for a quick work day lunch. I typically eat a healthy breakfast and lunch and splurge a little at dinner so I was happy to find several healthy options on their menu. I ordered a shrimp stir fry with Thai veggies, fire sauce and spring mix (instead of rice or noodles). The order came out in less than 10 minutes. The dish was full of plump tender shrimp, crunchy veggies and a nice spicy sauce. I couldn't find nutritional information on their website but other websites indicated that this dish (minus the spring mix which is served on the side) was 250 calories. I also like that they sell mineral water (which I am addicted to). If I needed a quick dinner I would definitely stop in and sit at the bar to take advantage of happy hour. While more fast food than mom & pop - the quality seems high and the food is made more for an american palate. I avoid placing take out orders during peak times on the weekends as it can result in a hold loop... My biggest gripe is the amount of plastic used in their take away containers. So a chicken stir fry with teriyaki sauce, Thai vegetable mix and a side of crab Rangoon's. A quick pit stop on my way home. Walked in and the order was ready, they handed me my bag and I was on my way again. So quick. The crab rangoon's are delicious but I don't like the dipping sauce. Opening the container for the chicken stir fry, most of it is rice topped with the veggies and some chicken. The taste of teriyaki was hardly there. It was filling and good...not great but eatable. I was able to have two dinners from one serving. Whenever I dine here, there is always a line. Their system works well because the line moves fast. Their prices are reasonable for what you get. The chicken was dry, hard, and very well browned. Appeared to have been deep fried. The noodles were very wide...like tagliatelle, but made with rice flour. They were severely overcooked, soggy and stuck together. There were sliced button mushrooms and green leaf lettuce. Inauthentic much? There was no discernable sauce, leaving this the single most flavorless meal I've had in years. Hint: pad thai should contain tamarind paste, sugar, peanuts, soy sauce. And flavor. In an effort to get a broad swath of tastes - it renders the place a jack-of-all-trades and master of none. A bit pricey for Asian fast food, but the portions are a pretty good size. So far our experiences have been: - Bowl of Hot and Sour soup - which is a pretty large bowl. - Tofu in White Wine Ginger sauce over Brown Rice. This dish was rather garlicky but rather bland in terms of flavor. Tom Kha Seafood soup - Definitely made for the masses since it lacked the spicy bite of a more traditional Thai soup. Pad Thai - definitely that stand out of the dishes tried so far. It was definitely tasty (although not as flavorful as a pad thai at an actual Thai restaurant). It's close to work so I'm sure I'll work my way through the menu over time. Don't expect to be overwhelmed, but an ok place for a change of pace lunch.
