Ask me a question- "Favorite food?" My answer isn't your normal "chicken and rice", or "lasagna", it's "Firebowl pad thai". I've quickly learned that all pad thai is not the same and I must not be a fan of the real thing. I, however, LOVE Firebowl's pad thai. It's embarrassing really. I've driven to the restaurant determined to try something else on the menu- there's the teriyaki chicken my friend raved over, or the stir fry that's uber-healthy and full of options, but my mouth betrays me while ordering and I always end up with the same meal. I'm never disappointed. The service is simple and friendly. Stand in line, order food, grab your drink and find a seat. They bring it out to you and clean up later. I guess I'm a picky eater. I enjoy flavor. And for that reason, Firebowl Cafe doesn't cut it. From the appetizers on, it was dish after dish of bland. This Pei Wei wannabe just doesn't cut it. The "Thai Summer Rolls" had no discernible taste (from herbs or otherwise), just a mouthful of flavorless vermicelli. The crab/cream cheese wontons did have some taste, but it was of salt and some cab -- no cream cheese. Disappointing. Most disheartening was the "coconut chicken soup," an extremely pale knockoff of the venerated tom kha gai (which is also on the menu elsewhere). For $2, I got a small bowl of mostly rice, and what tasted like highly diluted coconut water with a couple of dried herbs thrown in. There were some piece of chicken thrown in, but the flavor was mind numblingly absent. But then again, it was $2, right? What did I expect? Entree? A Thai vegetable stir-fry with a "spicy peanut" sauce. Turns out that it wasn't spicy, but more like thinned peanut butter served as a dressing on your favorite salad. I think you get the picture. It's been about two or three years since my last visit to Fire Bowl...I was so scarred by the horrible chicken I had there then that I never thought I would return. Well, time makes you forget certain things...or at least allows forgiveness a chance. Today was the day I gave Fire Bowl another chance... I really want to like Fire Bowl...I love its mix and match meat/veggie/sauce/starch concept. Maybe I just keep ordering the wrong things?? I didn't dare try the chicken again so I got the fried tofu. I never order tofu so I really can't tell if it was good compared to other tofu. It was alright. Certainly better than the chicken I remember having before. I got the spring (? not the thai) veggie blend and they were good but I wish I there had been more veggies. (If I go back, I may see if I can just get extra veggie instead of a meat/tofu.) The tofu and veggies were on a ramen noodle (okay) and a peanut sauce (okay, not great). Hubby had the steak with some sort of red curry sauce...we both agreed the steak meat was kind of chewy and didn't have a lot of meat flavor. I didn't really like the curry sauce, but it's not a sauce I would have normally ordered anyway, so... Have I forgiven Fire Bowl? Well, we're certainly not BFFs... I give it a 2.5, but I can't round up to 3. I may return sooner than my last visit (as long as I can remember that we're not enemies), but I'm still trying to find a sauce/starch combo that I like. I usually go here during my lunch. On cold days or my hang over days, I would order the coconut chicken soup. It is very good. If I am super hungry, I would get the coconut chicken noodle soup. Yummm. Very fulfilling and you get a lot of it. I actually saved it to eat the next day. The pork eggrolls with the sweet and sour sauce is very good as well. I also had the general tso's chicken one time and it's good. The first time I came here, I had the tofu pad thai. I actually had better, but it's not that bad. If you go on Mondays during lunch, you get to pick a card out of the playing cards. If you get a royal, you get a 10% discount. I don't remember what the other specials were, but it was interesting. The food here is pretty good - I love the Tom Kah coconut soup. The 3 stars is for the lack of cleanliness. The floor in the main restaurant has been dirty every time I have come here and not just one day's worth of foot traffic either. This last time here the women's bathroom was gross - the floor was all wet, there was no hand soap and the air vent looks like it's never been cleaned. My wife and I usually meet here for lunch around 2-3 times a week. After today we won't be going back. We've always enjoyed the food and the service has always been good. However today near our table there was a roach on the wall. To make it worse another smaller roach was on our table. I don't know what else to say. Vermicelli Singapore is really awesome! Not greasy as typical non-authentic American-Chinese fast food restaurant/stir fry place as well. Also, I could choose ingredients really easily, which meant omitting mushrooms. It was also affordable. 2 entrees and an appetizer for $20. The food was just okay. I got fried tofu with thai veggies and chinese sauce. I feel like I would have liked it more if there were more sauce. Felt like the ratios of food to sauce to rice were off. I've been here a couple of times and the flavor is what brings me back for their takeout. The spicy coconut soup is the best thing on the menu here and a good reason to go here on it's own, it's a great balance of sweet warmth in your mouth, it has shiitake mushrooms, snowpeas, coconut milk, cilantro, lemongrass, chicken, rice, chili, and lime, all of those add up to something your senses will thank you for. So good. My favorite meal choice is beef with the Thai veggie mix and spicy peanut sauce served over ramen lomein noodles, it has a very rich flavor and is enough for two people to enjoy, which means you can eat cheaply here and get a great meal to boot. The place is very clean and the people who work here are always happy and smiling and give good customer service. For the portions and the spicy coconut soup alone it's a great value for your money. Plenty of good shopping in the area too so it's got a good location to get errands done as well. read more

For the price, Fire Bowl Cafe is a pretty good deal; the portions are large and usually it's more than enough for two meals! I had the Udon Soup, which was good but somewhat bland, and the mushrooms had the texture of those that have been frozen for a long time, which was unpleasant. The crab rangoons were nothing special, the potstickers were better but still average, and overall my food was just so-so. My boyfriend got one of the make-your-own bowls, which I think turned out quite well but still somewhat bland. I may return here, but it will never be my first choice. read more

One of the worse Asian meals that I've had in a long time. I ordered a lunch special of seaseme chicken with fried rice. I received my order when my friend, who ordered a few minutes before me, had finished half of his order. The meal came with a interesting take on the meal. Half of my order was pineapple.
