I been several times but last night I arrived a minute before they closed and you would have never have known that they were closing. The team welcomed me as usual and filled my order completely without any attitude or rolling of eyes as you normally get when you come at closing. The portion sizes are very good and the prices are very reasonable also. I just feel bad for the kids working there since it so not operationally friendly and having them to be so inefficient, but they are always very nice and hospitable. read more

Visited the new Santa Clarita location tonight. I placed a takeout order and it was ready right on time in 20 minutes. Unfortunately, got home to find that I was given a poorly-portioned chicken & steak bowl in place of the platter I ordered and paid $7.00 more for. No Mac salad and no 50% more portion as described in the menu. The manager acknowledged after calling, but it was a little disappointing for how far I drove to pick up. Love this place! My husband and I were planning to host a luau-themed event for a party of 25 at our house and weren't sure whether to make most of the food ourselves, have a potluck or try and supplement food with a few entrees to be catered. So I did an online search for Hawaiian food in Ventura County and found Fire Island Grill. Next step was to go and visit them at their Simi Valley location. We met with Shawn, the manager, who put together a full menu for us and even comped our dinner while we were there so we could sample the food! We were impressed with the cuisine as it was very tasty, and pleased with the reasonable catering prices. We decided to get the entire dinner catered and delivered, and I am so happy we did. The day of the event, the owner delivered our food. He was prompt, friendly and professional. They even threw in a couple of extras, such as noodles and more helpings of tofu! Our guests gobbled up the food, and we still had some leftover to enjoy for the next day or two. The blackened shrimp, island rice, tilapia and salads were a hit. We would definitely use Fire Island Grill again for our catering needs, and want to shout it through the rooftops to anyone considering using them. Thank you, Fire Island Grill!!! read more

While spending a few days in Simi Valley we wanted to try out some of the smaller, independent restaurants. Wanting something on the more healthy side our first night there, we tried out Fire Island Grill. The set up is very similar to Chipotle - walk down the counter and let them know what you want them to put in the bowl. The rice was perfect, but the perfection ended there. The vegetables were obviously frozen as we could all taste the freezer burn on them. We each got different proteins, and all were fine, not good or bad, just.....fine. Same with the sauces, they were okay as well. While the food was edible, this isn't a spot that we will visit again. read more

Good, but. . . Seems really overpriced for quality and portion size. I ordered a special: four shrimp tacos and a veggie bowl over brown rice with Thai peanut sauce. The bowl was put together immediately (lots of rice and skimpy on the veggies), but I had to wait a while for the shrimp tacos. The tacos were street-sized (tiny), each had two shrimp, a tablespoon of slaw, and a not-especially pliable tortilla. (Hard to say how fresh). They were accompanied by a nondescript, somewhat flavorless fresh salsa. The veggie bowl got cold, there wasn't much spice or seasoning to it, but the veggies were good (not over- or under-cooked.) Would I have been happier with something else? Perhaps, but I'm not going back to find out. read more

I've now gone there multiple times now, and just feel the food is waaaaay over priced for what you get IMO. I ordered the steak and shrimp plate with rice and veggies. Rice took up most of the plate. My best go to quick food without having to settle on greasy fast food. The dish I get every time is their shrimp bowl with veggies. Great teriyaki sauce and their "fire" sauce that has an extra kick. Wow! Went to lunch with wife and it was excellent. The portions are huge. The Hawaiian rice was excellent. I had the pulled pork and wife had shrimp. Both were excellent. I had the fire teriyaki sauce. It was spicy but not terribly so. Wife had the sweet and spicy. I didn't find it spicy but found it had better flavor. read more

The 3rd star is for the service - I just wish the food matched it:( Maybe I got the wrong item to order from here, but i cannot say i enjoyed my bowl at all besides the shrimp. Brown rice is something i eat regularly and Fire Island's was hard almost unable to chew fully half the time. The veggies were nice Except for the broccoli which tasted as if it were straight out of the grocery store fridge - i think it would've been better if it were steamed or sautéed like the rest. The blackened shrimp was the shining star here and completely carried this bowl! Because the shrimp is Not the majority of the bowl's contents, it was outshined by the underwhelming representation of the rice + broccoli (which together made up more than half of the bowl). Im hoping it was maybe just an off-day or other but I definitely won't be ordering the bowl again as it actually felt like a waste of my hard-earned cash:( Maybe something different the next time i come around. First time here. It's a good spot to go to for lunch. Food is not bad. Fountain drink options. The only distinctly "island" offering could be their coconut rice, which wasn't my favorite. I'll probably try the white or brown rice next tube and be fine though. Beef is definitely better than chicken. All in all, a decent place for lunch. Definitely fast. I've never been here before so I guess I was expecting food having something to do with islands. As just a good grill, it's what you'd normally expect.
