One coughed in his sleeve and continued making the food without washing his hands. They greeted us when we walked in, kept up an super friendly conversation while plating up our meals/ringing us up, and then said goodbye/have a wonderful night with actual warmth. First time here, wanted to try something new had the chargrill chicken bowl and pulled pork bowl with the ceazer salad. Every thing seemed ok until my husband noticed something moving in the salad and he told me to stop eating it . It was a big ASS BUG looked like a beetle or roach couldn't really make it out, I just saw it move and I was so freaked out I spit every thing out of my mouth . My husband went to the cashier not making a big deal because the place was packed and they took it like nothing . She told my husband we will remake it .. !!! WTH.. my husband asked for a refund they only refunded us the 2 bowls not the money for the bug salad that was the issue ... not cool .., I looked for the health dept rating for this place and it was not posted I wonder why ??? Stumbled upon this place with my parents when we were goign to the Reagan Museum and Library. The staff was very friendly and the food had great flavor to it! Prices were cheap...comparable to Qdoba or Chipotle. Love supporting locally owned and operated businesses. The owner is there quite often, and you can tell. For a decent price you can get yourself a good sized bowl of rice or noodles, veggies, meat and tasty sauce. Not too difficult sounding, but it seems that a very large majority of establishments seem unable to provide patrons with a proper meal for a good price. The one issue I would have is that you are just picking a protein a get some sauce on top so there flavor isn't soaked in, but what are you going to do. On the food alone I'd give 'em a 3.5, but the staff is so friendly I'm going to err on the side of them being awesome and hope that following visits will make me not feel like a total fool. read more

I used to love Fire Island Grill but sadly things have changed. Suddenly we can no longer use the "kids eat free" weekend special for carry out unless your child is actually with you. We used to pick up lunch or dinner frequently on the weekends to take advantage of this offer...rarely ever taking a child into the establishment with us...now suddenly they want a head count for every take out order. Also food quality is not what it used to be. Ordered a pork bowl today with peanut sauce and I was given about a dime size amount of peanut sauce and the pork was DRY. I messaged the establishment and was given a very flippant response. So clearly customer service isn't a priority. Very bummed...we used to love this place! read more

Fire Island Grill is on the pricier end of the rice bowl-style eateries. Their restaurant setup is "Chipotle-like" as they create your rice bowl in a assembly-line type fashion, but unfortunately they do not fully utilize this setup to its potential. Both times I've been here, the person assembling my bowl goes to the back of the kitchen to get the meat of your choice, which brings the assembly line to a halt. Also, when something like a sandwich is ordered, the back of the kitchen completely supersedes the assembly line bringing about confusion and slow service among the staff. If they can somehow get all the ingredients at the assembly line, a-la Chipotle, then I think their service will improve immensely. For now, this remains a huge delay and distraction for both the customer and staff. The food can range from average to above average, depending on how the meat is cooked that day. One day the steak was cooked perfectly, and another day it was overcooked for me. I think the food should be more consistent considering the price of the bowls. This place has a chance to be really good if they can get their service and consistency issues in check. The staff has always been friendly, but the confusion caused by their current setup prevents them from reaching their potential. I think for the price, there are better values in the rice-bowl world close by. read more

When arriving it has what has turned into the classic "Fast-Casual" setup where you line up to order and its made there in front of you. They offer 3 choices of rice, some proteins, and 4 sauces. Behind the counter were employees who greeted me with a smile that felt genuine. As my first time I always talk to the staff to get an idea of what to try and went with white rice, chicken and their medium sauce but with a question on how hot the next one was they just said they would put an extra cup of it on the side so I could try it. (good customer service) I was surprised at the large bowl that was brought up with well cooked rice, a very good helping of steaming veggies, and an excellent portion of chicken. I love Fire Island and have referred many people to place because of the great food and wonderful staff. However, today I had an experience that has me rethinking going back. I was there with a couple of friends enjoying our lunch on the patio. We had finished our lunches and the normally congenial owner/manager came over and asked if he could bus our table. We said "Sure, thank you". I jokingly asked him when they would be serving beer and wine to which he replied with attitude and quite snippy "Never". And walked away. Talk about a mood killer. We sat there for a few more mins talking before assessing what had just happened. I thought maybe it was me be too sensitive. Nope my friends thought he was snippy also. Tried the volcano salad and it was way too salty. I excepted it to be light and healthy but i feel like it had just as many calories and average meal. Lettuce was drenched in dressing and everything was layered with an extra layer of terriyaki sauce. I love this place. My first visit was ten minutes to closing on a Thursday night. I wouldn't ever have noticed though because the employees were super patient and helpful. When we asked to eat our food there they had no problem with it and did it with a smile. We had six kids who are so indecisive but our cashier was so great with them. First time there last night, and the staff was super friendly and explained the menu (rice/noodle bowls, and the way you pick your own goodies to make it). I had the Char-Grilled Chicken Bowl, and it was really good! Very tender chicken, and nice size portions, enough so that I took the leftovers for lunch the next day ( and I consider myself an eater ; ) I like that you can pick white rice, brown rice, noodles, and I think something else but forgot. I ordered the orange spicy sauce and it was GOOD, and my boyfriend had the peanut sauce which was equally as good. Driving by it always looks quiet and lonely, but take advantage, because once word gets out that it's good, you'll be sorry that you have to wait in line. It really is that good! They could use a little more decoration inside, but hey we're there for the food right, and good food it is. We told the guys that work there they need to stand out on the corner in hula skirts and coconut tops with a sign telling people they are there so everyone knows. Finally an alternative to the typical chain restaurant junk out in the burbs! I've been several times and it's consistently great. The food- very creative, clean flavors and kinda healthy. I love the bowls: rice, meat, veggies and several yummy sauces to kick it up. I appreciate that they give you as many different sauces as you want rather than nickel and dime you over them. Atmosphere- clean, fun, bright, and tvs for those want to keep an eye on a game. Service- friendly and helpful.
