Fire on the mountain - a low down review You order at a counter when you come in, so know what you want before you approach. One thing I hate is that counter order ask for tip before the service. Basically they bring out your order and that's it. Its self serve all the way.......hence why the tip? The counter girl needs new job as her "friendly" attitude kept her from wanting to explain the sauces when asked. I was told they are labeled. Ok how hot is hot? She just pointed to the pretzel sticks to taste with. Im GF and the pretzel sticksnot gluten friendly as I explained to her as I had already done so when I asked if the wings were breaded and what sauces were GF. She could have given me a sliver of the celery the serve - I'll explain that later. Loads of Crafts beer. This might be why people love the place as the food is ok. 1 GF beer selection glutmey from Breckenridge and ciders. You take your number your drink all in hand. Hope your not carrying anything else or multi trips to get everything to the table. Table delivery did not explain the sauces, just here ya go and off he went. I had the bone wings which are gf. The lime cilantro is not lime flavor but a bit more buffalo - remember I could try the sauces.Wings could have been more crispy. A cheep way to make blue cheese is to use ranch with small bits of blue cheese. I also tried the gf cauliflower. It is well prepared batter does not have too much flavor so the sauce is what you take in. This was a nice addition for GF and Vegan. Know that if you think "I'll sit outside on a sunny day and relax", think again. The outdoor was very very loud with just a few patrons at a 1:30 lunch during the week. In our quest to find the best wings in Denver, we came here with high hopes. As far as wings go, the place gets two stars. Whomp, whomp! They are overpriced, tiny (I don't care if they are all natural or whatever), and oversauced. We got 24 of their wings and two $6 pints and the total with tip was over $40! We did not leave full either. I like the patio seating although overall the place is small and cramped. Although it is a cool space, what isn't chill are the signs everywhere for literally everything. By the time I left there, I felt like a preschooler, being told every little thing. This might be due to their hands off approach for serving. They only get three stars because service has been friendly and they have a great tap list. They don't have a lot of Colorado beers as you might imagine, but hey it's nice to branch out once and a while. We have come at off times so parking and the wait have been minimal. I can guarantee you, I would not come here during busy times. Not worth it. We most likely will not come here again as we have given it another shot and we're still very underwhelmed. Returned with my family to FOTM today, for the first time since Covid and it was truly wonderful! The wings and food were delicious as always, but boy did the staff go above and beyond! We were a group of 9 including an 8 month old and two people with mobility issues. We were escorted to the side door, to avoid steps, distance, and have an easier access. . Everyone was so gracious and kind. Service was quick and friendly. When leaving, we had a finger closed in the automatic car window. One of our group went back inside to ask for some ice and the gentleman that helped offered other medical supplies and was truly concerned. Finally!!!!!!! I found a place that has great wings! The wings are covered in sauce but not swimming in it. Also I love that you get to sample the sauce flavors before you order them. I had 12 traditional bone in wings with the bourbon chipotle and raspberry habanero. Both sauces were very yummy!! The wings were a little small but the flavor and fried to perfection still made them perfect! My husband had the boneless and just so you know they are the size of chicken tenders. Sad to write this review however I think it is necessary. I dined here on 10/20 around 1pm. Everyone in my party ordered boneless wings while I ordered bone in wings. Approximately 8 hours later I was violently throwing up for 5 hours straight. Fast forward 2 days later and I am still in recovery from some of the worst food poisoning I've ever had. Got take out from here and found it overpriced with poor portion size. I got the sweet BBQ wings and garlic parm wings and paid $15 for 12 total wings. Not a bad deal for good wings, but a few of the wings couldn't have been smaller. Pro tip: always check your takeout food before you drive away from Fire. We love eating Fire in person, but have had multiple experiences with getting takeout where something is wrong. We always get their seitan wings because they are so so good (typically get the medium Buffalo, raspberry habanero, and bbq). We've had multiple experiences where they are so dry and lacking sauce- we learned from that and ask for extra saucy. Tonight we placed our order with tots and oh my- the wings were so dry we had to use our own Buffalo sauce and the tots were ROCK HARD. Which is beyond disappointing because those are delicious when done right. Fire on the Mountain is in a happening spot in the Highlands that is serving up some pretty good food with a buffalo spin to it. The main detriments here are limited parking (all street parking) and long wait times because of their popularity. If you are a wing junkie you should definitely check this place out. Of note, you will find that their wings are smaller than other traditional wing places, and this is because they have more strict criteria about the chicken that they use for their wings. On my most recent visit, we got a large tots (which is enough tots for probably 6 people), a side of queso, and 18 hot wings. Im obsessed with tator tots so getting an almost literal ton of them (see picture) with some decent queso is a bonus. I ordered my wings wet, but they were pretty much light sauce by my standards (I expect wet to be swimming in sauce, I had no sauce to dip my insane amount of tots in) but they are still some pretty savory wings. I am also a ranch snob, and their ranch definitely has a dilly flavor to it which isn't my favorite, I prefer more of a creamy/savory ranch flavor than dilly dilly. Overall, not the best wings I have ever had, but for sure some of the best in Denver, and the atmosphere, side dishes, variety of beers on tap and in bottles, and friendly service make this place a winning combo. Great wings!! For two people, we ordered 24 wings sit 4 ways. Our flavors were Caribbean Jerk, Mild, Medium, Buffalo Cilantro Lime. We also ordered the fried stuffed mushrooms. We were finishing up a Garden Tour in the area and walked by Fire on the Mountain and decided we could both munch on some wings, who doesn't love wings right? It was an odd hour of the day (3pm give or take) so the place was a little empty. We sat at the bar with an excellent bartender, he was sarcastic and really funny, he made the experience that much better. Typically this place is order at the counter and then they bring you your food. Since we sat at the bar we ordered with the bartender. The reason to go up to the counter is to sample all their spicy sauces so you can make an educated decision. There's a cup of celery and a little bit of each sauce to try. We tried most of them, some of the hotter flavors scared me so I opted not to burn my tongue and stick with the ones that I knew would work for us. After our taste test we decided on 9 wings and split the order to use two of their sauces. The Bourbon Chipotle and the Spicy Peanut. The wings arrived and to be honest the size of the wings was a little disappointing, pretty small IMO. This is where the disappointment ends, the sauces were finger licking good. Between the two, the Spicy Peanut takes it all, spicy and uber flavorful. The Bourbon Chipotle was wonderful as well. We had a wonderful time enjoying the air conditioning, beer, and wings. I would definitely come back for some more of those sauces and the rest of their awesome looking menu. *Important to note that they rotate their sauces. I came out from Oregon on a trip and had to hit the newest addition to the FOTM family. My husband and I are weekly regulars at FOTM back in Portland, hitting the Fremont and Burnside locations pretty regular, maybe enough to change our DNA to a little bit of wing sauce. We went in today a little after lunch and wanted to throw big high fives for not having to stand in line or wait for a table. There were just a couple of people in there. You won't find that back in Portland around lunch time. It is the exact same set up, right down to the funky wall colors and benches, as Portland. A little piece of home, right here in Colorado. There was some confusion from the new staff about how to ring up an order that was substituting tots for fries, but they are new, so it was not a life shattering experience, it did not take from the flavor of the wings, so we all survived. I went with my usual chicken sandwich, and have to say, not so loudly that Portland hears me, but the chicken sandwich here was a lot better. Not dry, and the portion of chicken was much larger. I hope it stays that way for this location. I also, saw a lady next to us get the fish and chips and it looked a lot larger than the one I had been served in Portland at the Fremont location. The wings may be small, we have even been known to whine a little about it, as we are sucking the sauce off the bone, but let us call it portion control. The menu is exactly the same, so we got the fried pickles, too, and they delivered. Make sure you get the chipotle mayo, they gave us ranch, the mayo that comes with it is much better, a little spicy, but still good. The only thing I can say bad about today is the ranch was heavy on the mayo flavor and not enough ranch shining through, but somehow I managed.
