Well, here is what the Engineer sub looks like.
Muhammed E.

I really do not have too much to say here. I was not impressed with the sub I ordered/received. I ordered the Engineer sub, and the cashier originally took my order as the New York Steamer; I am not sure how the two sound similar, but it was caught before I paid and them making the order. The Engineer is a smoked turkey breast sub with Swiss cheese, sauteed mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, and deli mustard. I ordered mine large, with no mayo. I did not order anything else except for the one sub. The wait time was about eight minutes. It deceived me by making me think I had ordered what was going to be the best sub ever. But it really was not. The best way I can describe it as is "microwaved Subway". The sub was not appealing/satisfying at all.

Delicious splurge. We really enjoy the brisket, and usually as order it. The club and meatball subs are also flavorful. I would normally rate this establishment five stars, but the owner decided to now up charge the chopped pickles placed on the sandwich that were normally part of the free toppings. The cashier was very nice about it and informed us of the change. I'm not sure if other Firehouses made the same change, but if not, I'm disappointed. They still have other complimentary toppings, so I opted for the olives, cucumbers, and jalapeños. My daughter still got the extra pickles, but found less meat on her sub. They seem to give you less brisket than when they first opened. This restaurant is pricier than most equivalent sub shops, and I've seen other locations come and go. Nonetheless we plan on dining here, the staff was pleasant and the good delicious.

Meatball with pepperoni

YES. I am obsessed with a good meatball sandwich but most fast food places either don't put enough sauce or cheese, etc. The meatball sandwich I had here was excellent- I took the option of adding pepperoni, there was ample amount of sauce, cheese, seasoning, and bread. Lots to write home to mama.

New York Steamer sub

Excellent hot subs. We've tried The turkey and cheese, the New York steamer, the Italian, and the meatball sub. Clean, kid-friendly, and delicious! They have a Coca-Cola Freestyle machine, and their brownies are yummy as well. We've been here twice this week... And we don't normally go to the same place twice in a month. Beats Jimmy Johns and Subway by a mile! Plus kid's meals come with a plastic fire hat. What's not to like?

Where's the meat. 10 bucks for a combo. Subs are ok but nothing like the picture on the wall. What a disappointment!

Great Italian sub. I think there was some kind of honey mustard that was a nice surprise!

Pretty good subs. Thought the prices were a little high for the size sandwich I got. Pretty thin sandwiches.

Food was good. A little over priced. Reminded me of a glorified subway! Customer service needs work!

Nice burger joint in Commerce. My "Beef" burger at 1/2 lb was large, well made, quite juicy and…read moretasty. The burger was made out of a blend of beef short rib and brisquet with fresh lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and a specialty sauce. The sauce while good was something I would change in the future to straight up mustard as I think the burger would have been better based on personal preference. The burger also came with a side where I chose their house fries which were excellent and one of the better fries I have had in the area. Relative to staff and facility, the restaurant has a compact footprint which limits the amount of tables this business has along with counter seating. Something to keep in mind if you are headed here during busy dining hours like a Friday or weekend nite. Staff was very friendly with prompt service and nice followup throughout the meal. Overall a nice dining experience where if Burgers are your thing you should definately check this business out.

I really don't like giving bad reviews either, but I have to be honest. We waited almost a hour for our food. The place is not too big for seating, but there was one waitress. It took us 5ish minutes to be seated and another 10 for our order to be taken. The service was just very slow. As you know, I come for the biscuits and gravy at any place. My biscuit was hot, but my gravy was lukewarm which was odd. The flavor of them was just ok. The eggs did taste good. The breakfast burger I was told was good, but not something to rave over. I did not like that they had well water only. They definitely need to get an osmosis system. They offer bottled water but charge for it. I feel that's disappointing because you're forcing your clients well, not tap, water but they can buy a bottle? Well water has a very different taste and it was almost sour. The waitress however was a nice person. She was doing her best I'm sure. I'm sure the 2 cooks were nice people as well. The flavor of the food was not worth the wait and me giving it a second try however. I want to come back for the burger specials, but scared I'll wait a long time again for food.

I wanted to leave a review both as someone who worked at Checkers and as someone who truly enjoys…read morethe food. I worked there from April 22 to May 14, 2025, and even though my time was short, I had a lot to say. First off, the food is seriously good. I love the $4 meal deals especially the cheeseburgers with pickles and sesame seed buns. The texture and flavor are always on point. Their seasoned fries are some of the best I've had, and the Nerds slushies are super fun and refreshing. I even have a few photos I took because everything looked so good! When it came to working there, my experience was okay, but I do wish I had more of a chance to grow. Since I was new to the job, they would often cut my hours. It wasn't because of anything I did wrong they just said it would be easier that way. I didn't get the opportunity to learn how to make sandwiches or burgers, which I really wanted to do, but I was never trained on that station. Instead, I mostly worked the fryer, made mozzarella sticks, and was starting to learn the register. I was trying to do my best and stay involved, especially on weekends, which I enjoyed working. Unfortunately, I was let go without being given a clear reason, but I'm still glad I got the experience and I'd be open to coming back in the future. Also, I wanted to mention something that not a lot of people may realize tipping is available at Checkers, and it's very much appreciated. Most people don't tip and that's okay because not everyone knows or feels like they need to but it does make a difference. I noticed that it's usually elderly people who leave tips, and I just want to say thank you to anyone who does. Even small tips help support the crew who's working hard behind the scenes. Overall, I love Checkers' food and I'm grateful for the experience I had working there. I hope more people continue to enjoy their meals and maybe consider leaving a little tip if they're able to! Overall, Checkers has good food and a nice environment. Some people came in to sit down and eat, and I appreciated seeing that. I did my best when I worked there to keep things clean like wiping tables, sweeping, and helping however I could. It was a fast-paced place, and I really wish I could've stayed longer. The experience meant a lot to me.

It asked if I wanted to make my sandwich a meal, I told it no and said I wanted to take the lettuce off my sandwich and add pickles... it asked if I wanted to order Philly cheese something or other. I said "no that's not what I'm trying to order" frustrated and a human voice comes over the intercom with all of the attitude to say, "She didn't even give you a price or anything." So I said, "Oh wow!" And pulled out of the drive through to an audience of two women standing in the drive through window. If there's so many people available to watch people leave... how come a computer was trying to take my order? Wasn't anyone else in the store so... I guess they get paid to stand around doing nothing?

Service and atmosphere were also great with a relaxing vibe. Any question I had asked about menu items the server was knowledgeable on which was great as I'm normally a ketchup and mayo burger guy. I was glad I listened and tried whatever sauce they make and use. I've noticed some other lower reviews and folks have to realize this whole structure of everything is a new concept to the area that has to work thru kinks. People in this "gen" aren't built like the old days. Stuff needs worked out and opinions need voiced in person rather than try to ruin a new business in town because it's not like your grandpa made it back in 72 over the exhaust of his cutlass. Try it, place is good and it pleased my oversized 31 year old stomach. I'll be back soon for the lollipop pork things I saw on the menu and to try the michigan dog. Beer inside is also good. Neat selection but I think the review for inside is separate from Smash House.

I liked the chips, not sure if you can upgrade to fries, but I also got a garlic parm waffle fry with their aioli. It was tasty. We also tried the BBQ rip lollipops. They were meaty and filling. They came with celery and blue cheese or ranch, we got the blue cheese. I like that the ribs came with a veggie, good choice not to only do carbs as sides. I am sad that I did not try the lobster roll, but I felt that I should get what they are know for first before venturing outside the box. The people working here seemed friendly and helpful. We were able to order and pick up in a reasonable amount of time, it was packed here in general. I am not sure about using the QR code, I just went to their trailer and ordered in person. This place is a big expensive for what you get, it is typical of food trucks to have small portions and high prices. But, if you are eating here, you are paying for an experience. This is a party atmosphere for all ages. You can eat outside, which we did, or inside. They have lawn games outside and arcade games inside on two levels. I would eat at this place again. I would just like to see perhaps a larger fry portion or slightly cheaper burger price.

Very much like a traditional smashburger; a little greasy, but mine was not overly greasy. Burgers are served wrapped in wax paper and that coupled with the decor gives a very old-school diner vibe. The fries were cooked perfectly. Golden & crispy on the outside, soft and steamy on the inside. I ordered the regular fries (not the seasoned fries), but they were still a tad bit on the salty side. The staff was young, but they knew what they were doing. The grill man served up a tasty burger and the young lady working the register & delivering food provided service with a smile and answered all my questions as a first time customer. My only knock on this spot is that the lobby/dining room area needs a thorough deep cleaning. The table tops were sticky, the seats had a lot of crumbs and food on them, and the floor could use a mopping. Ketchup & mustard bottles were sticky as well. On the plus side, the kitchen area looked clean and tidy (you can see right into it from where you sit). But the tables and chairs definitely need some TLC.
