They were friendly, knowledgeable, and took the time to answer a million questions and make recommendations without ever making us feel rushed. It's refreshing to interact with employees who genuinely know the menu and care about creating a great experience for their guests. We ended up ordering the Rodeo Burger which had double Angus beef patties, jalapenos, crispy onion rings, bacon, American cheese, and barbecue sauce. As well as the Sunrise Burger that came loaded with double patties, American cheese, bacon, a hash brown patty, and an over-easy egg. Both burgers were cooked perfectly, packed with flavor, and made with fresh, quality ingredients. Every bite lived up to the hype, and it's clear they put a lot of care into their food. The pricing is also very reasonable, especially considering the quality and portion sizes. On top of that, they offer a 10% discount to military and have Happy Hour all day on Sundays, which makes an already great value even better. Between the outstanding food, exceptional customer service, fun atmosphere, and great value, The Burger Joint has earned a spot on my list of favorite burger restaurants in San Diego.

With the recent sale to Athletic Brewing, Ballast ceased operations for about 2 years now. The San Diego beer landscape has been changing the last couple of years with consumers drinking less beer, choosing non-alcoholic options and preferring canned cocktails. It was a wonderful space with a large walk bar, extensive dining area and tons of high top tables. The only gripe was the parking which was always difficult to find a spot. Founded in early 2019 by Arturo Kassel (Whisknladle CEO) and Skip Virgilio (AleSmith co-founder) by a chance encounter, Kassel wanted to move away from typical industrial taprooms and create a space with elevated food and a bright, coastal aesthetic that appealed to the tech-heavy workforce in the area.
