I needed an oil change on my company fleet vehicle before getting back on the road Monday, and this visit to Firestone on Providence Road ended up being a mixed experience -- but ultimately, they got the job done. I initially called to ask about a weekend appointment and was told, rather abruptly, that the next opening was Tuesday and that Saturday and Sunday were completely booked. That didn't sound quite right, so I checked online. Sure enough, the SAME location showed a noon appointment available Saturday. I booked it, received confirmation, and even called Saturday morning to make sure the appointment was legitimate before making the drive over. That disconnect between the phone information and online scheduling was frustrating and could easily have sent me somewhere else. When I arrived for my noon appointment, Charles checked me in and told me to expect about an hour and a half. I had brought my laptop and planned to get some work done while I waited. This is a small waiting area -- only about five chairs -- and this location gets BUSY. The phone rang almost constantly, customers kept walking in, and I overheard that they were dealing with a staffing callout that day. To Charles's credit, he handled everyone who came through the door and didn't allow impatient customers to rush him. I respected that. Unfortunately, the estimated 90 minutes turned into about 2 1/2 hours. My car was finally ready around 2:30. The saving grace? This Firestone sits in a large shopping center with plenty of places to eat and things to do. I discovered Lula Banh Mi & Bakery nearby, and now that I know what's around, next time I'll drop off the car, grab lunch and come back later rather than spending the afternoon in the waiting room listening to the phone ring. I also ended up having a lovely conversation with another woman waiting for her vehicle, so sometimes you make the best of things. Bottom line: the scheduling communication could improve, and the wait ran considerably longer than quoted. But they were clearly short-staffed that Saturday, the shop was busy, and my vehicle ultimately received the service it needed. That's why I think this experience deserves some grace rather than a harsh review. I'll use this location again for my fleet vehicle. Next time, though, I'm dropping off the keys and heading straight to lunch. read more

I brought my SUV in for an inspection and a tire rotation. In the end they ended up costing me over $300. As soon as I picked my car up there was a loud grinding sound when I would accelerate. I took it back in the shop. They lifted it up to take a look. They said I likely had a broken motor mount. I was planning to leave town immediately for the weekend. I called every ford dealership in or within 45 min of Charlotte. None could take my car in same day, or if they could, they wouldn't fix it until Monday anyway. So I got a rental car for the weekend. Got to and from the rental place using Lyft. When Ford had a chance to look at my car, they told me the engine oil cover had been installed upside down. That's all the issue was. Firestone had taken off the cover and reinstalled it incorrectly. I know they had to have done this, as they put a completed oil change sticker on my windshield! I was not charged for an oil change. So by the time I had a rental for the weekend $257 plus at least $50 in Lyfts, my tire rotation and sticker cost me over $300 because of Firestone's incompetence to know 1. I didn't ask for an oil change and 2. Go to do one anyway and reinstall the cover upside down. I'd take my business elsewhere. read more

Found a nail in my tire so I called Firestone to see if they could fit me in without an appointment. They told me I could come in right away. It only took an hour to patch my tire and the price was just under $35 which was super affordable. My car is driving great now with no tire pressure issues. I thought I would give Firestone another chance after my last visit years ago. At that visit, I requested a tire rotation and wheel alignment. Upon completion I asked for an alignment printout, which they didn't have b/c they said their printer wasn't working. I then asked a mechanic to show me that they had rotated the tires (which I had marked before the service). They had not been rotated, which the mechanic said it had not been requested, but was clearly marked on the work order. I scheduled a wheel alignment with another Firestone in the area the next day and they found all 4 wheels needed adjusting. Needless to say, absolutely nothing on my work order had been done at the Arboretum Firestone. This visit I requested a wheel alignment and oil change. I scheduled the appointment for 7:00 a.m. and was the first, and only, customer in the store. They said that I had only asked for an oil change and that it would take about 60-90 minutes since they didn't have the wheel alignment on the work order and there were a couple of customers ahead of me! The reason I scheduled the earliest appointment was so I wouldn't have to wait. Obviously, I took back my keys back and will schedule any future Firestone appointments elsewhere. read more

AVOID THIS LOCATION: I had to drop my car off on a Friday to get serviced for a check engine light. On Saturday, they called to advise that the CEL was due to a faulty sensor that was still under warranty. However, they advised me that I needed 2 additional repairs (which seems to be a common occurrence here): a leaking oil pan needed to be replaced and a second regularly scheduled maintenance. When I asked them to check my maintenance log, they realized that I literally just did the regular service fairly recently (oops). So, they fixed the oil pan and the faulty sensor. Within hours of leaving, I drove the car and the CEL comes on and now the OIL LIGHT goes off repeatedly. When I call, the person tells me I can bring the car by on Wednesday to get it fixed. To be clear, the guidance for the OIL LAMP is to stop driving immediately. Cannot believe the lack of urgency at this store for a problem that they created. I was impressed to learn that there are master mechanics on site who work on high end vehicles as well as everyday cars. I scheduled an appointment specifically for an oil change. When I arrived, I was asked if there was anything else I needed, and I mentioned that a filter also needed to be changed. Two hours later, I picked up my vehicle only to find that the filter had been changed -- but the oil hadn't been touched. When I called to ask what happened, I was told that they thought I only wanted the filter changed. This makes no sense, considering I scheduled the appointment for an oil change, and the "Change Oil" warning was clearly illuminated on the dashboard. This is unacceptable. At best, it's a serious miscommunication; at worst, it's negligence. Either way, I now have to waste more time getting done what should've been completed in the first place. read more

This is a one-star review from a former Firestone employee. I began my career with Bridgestone Retail Operations in 2010 and worked in LaGrange Georgia for 2 years until I was promoted to Manager of Tires Sales and transferred to the flagship store in Columbia South Carolina. It's important I mention all of this because if the Charlotte Arboretum Firestone and the sales associate (invoice says Jake but I believe the person said his name was Brandon when he answered a call) is willing to treat a former employee who used to do the exact same job then please think how you will be treated before you decide to visit this store. On September 26th I brought my 2009 Honda CRV into this location for an oil change, tire rotation, and alignment. The work was performed and I picked up the vehicle the next day. When I picked up my CRV my vehicle was now pulling heavily to the right and the TPMS light was on, not the "low pressure" TPMS light but the actual "TPMS" light. These two actions were not occurring when I brought my vehicle in. It was only after it was serviced that it began doing this. I returned to the shop and informed Brandon of the issues. Here he has an opportunity to make it right. It's important we go on a tangent now. If an employee has the aspiration and ability to become a store manager they must go through Store Manager training first. I went through this training. I remember one key phrase our trainer taught; "give'em the pickle." This is in reference to how a deli stopped giving pickles as part of their standard orders and when a customer asked for their pickle the store wanted to now charge. This ended up seeing the store lose many customers, market share, and thus revenue...and it all could have been avoided if they just gave them the pickle. This was the phrase we all used when running into issues with customers because a single transaction is of no value to Firestone, it is the customer loyalty and repeat business that helps us secure market share and thus long term customer commitment. And each associate is empowered to make it right. Brandon had the ability to make it right. But he gave excuse after excuse; "your vehicle is 15 years old, have you ever changed the batteries in them? That could be the problem." "Did you hit a pothole? That could be the problem" It was excuse after excuse. I know that all they have to do is take a small handheld computer out to the vehicle and put it next to the tire and reset the TPMS sensor. I have done this before. I even mentioned this to him. His respond was "yeah, that is one way but it also might be one where we have to hook the OBD sensor up to it and that is something we have to charge for." So my options were $25 for the reset or $50 for a TPMS diagnostic. Remember, it did not do this when I brought it in. I told him I have owned the vehicle since 2014 and never once during that time has that light come on until the alignment and tire rotation was done. He restated my two options and the price it would cost. I repeated my position and said "just to be clear I have owned the vehicle since 2014, the light has never been on, and your position is that it is just a coincidence and I would need to pay?" He restated the two options and price. I told him "ok, please print out my invoice so I can have the survey number, and let me know your store number." I am appalled that this is what the brand I have championed for years has become. When I graduated with my MBA the former CHRO of Bridgestone, Darrin Rohr was the keynote speaker. I still have his personal phone number today. I was even offered a full-time position in Nashville by Truman Hyde but turned it down due to personal reasons. I am writing all of this to end the same way I began...if this store is willing to treat a former employee this way then please think wisely before bringing your vehicle in. Had a flat tire, and this was the closest repair store. I got there at 6:30pm when they close at 7. The two workers were inside, not a single car was being worked on, told me sorry but no they can't help me. I told them I was in a pinch and needed a patch and they again refused. Then I asked if I left it overnight if I could pick it up fairly early the next day, and they told me it wouldn't be worked on until late afternoon. So much for customer service. What's the point of having an auto mechanic shop if you can't help people in emergencies. Putting a patch on takes 15-20 minutes at most. Lazy people and terrible service. I would recommend never going to this place. By far the worst experience I've ever had dealing with a car issue. So... I inflated my tire in the parking lot, took it to a Goodyear closer to where I live that was closed at the time. I had a call at 6:30am saying the car was ready and the fix was free. read more

They said no and basically told me they were closed on Monday so I would have to go 3 days before they could get to me. This location of Firestone is always busy. I have been here a couple of times for inspections but I don't trust them to make car repairs. (They kind of have a bad reputation for trying to sell you repairs/service that may not really be needed.) But, I think they are ok for doing inspections. They are pretty slow, so I would recommend planning to leave your vehicle. Since its in the Arbo, there are plenty of restaurants & shops within walking distance to keep you busy while they get around to doing your inspection. read more

Brought a set of rotors in as my normal go to Firestone's lathe was broken. This one charged me almost double! Normally, it's 20-25 bucks! I can buy a new set of rotors for $90. I have brought my three cars here for over two years so I feel I am qualified to have an opinion. I find the service to be adequate and the employees as well. What I have noticed over the years is that they often suggest repairs that aren't really necessary (cupping tires? - Just rotate them), replace the battery? (Um, It is a third vehicle, I've driven it 6 months after the recommendation without incident. I have driven it more often and the battery continues to start the vehicle.) Ok, maybe they are looking out for me. What sort of changed things for me in that thinking is that my daughter went to get her driver's test in the same vehicle that we have had inspected there for the past 2+ years. Well, she failed the test due to a vehicle failure of the vehicle's left turn signal not working. It actually had the wrong bulb in it (and it wasn't blown, tested it elsewhere.) To be fair they did not install this bulb but since it can't possibly illuminate the turn signal since it is the wrong bulb, one can deduce that my vehicle has passed its NC inspection for two years without anyone testing the turn signals. Best part? The 1156 (marker) bulb rather than the 1157LL bulb was in the turn signal bulb socket. Meaning it couldn't have possibly worked during either of the past two year NC vehicle inspectaions. I think I am going to find a new, more diligent shop. As your parent might say, I'm not mad, I'm just really disappointed in you, Firestone. read more

I had a flat tire with a very slow leak. I had just stopped to put air in it so I could drive to Firestone. However, Firestone said that there was not a leak in my tire. That they took it off and checked it and that it was all good. The attendant said it had maybe been the change in temperature. The next morning I got home and my tire was COMPLETELY FLAT. Worst service I received. Told them i needed a flat fixed and a tire swap. Let them know i had use fix a flat and the instructions of what needed to be done. Was told ok and it would 38 bucks to fix it. Then called, and told its 42 or so because my rim was bigger. Still ok. Then called and told they cant fix the tire. They tried fixing the wrong tire. Told them the tire to fix again. Another 40 mins go by and now told they cant fix it because i used fix a flat. I asked why not when you where you going to fix it last time I was in the shop. Said they call me back. At this time i go to the shop to see what is going on in person about a 10 min drive for me. My car is in the parking lot still. I asked what going on and said they are done and didn't fix anything. They wasted an entire day from 8-4pm. Was told i was getting a call back as if they were going to see about fixing it and never got a call back. Don't waste your time here. They will nickel and dime you and waste your time. Don't go here unless you can take half a day off work. The appointments aren't really appointments. I had an appointment for early morning and learned when I got there, the so-called appointment only gets your name on a waiting list. I still had to wait 90 minutes just for my car to be taken back. The whole thing took 2.5 hours to buy and mount one new tire! The price was better than two other stores I checked. All depends if your time is worth that little to you as to whether it is worth saving $10-$15 on new tire by spending half a day there. For me, it's not. To seal the deal, that is, as to why I would never return here, I asked them to check the alignment while the car was up. It came back with only one slight number off, and not even by enough to show up as in the red zone on their test print out and was within the recommended range but the salesperson was trying to tell my why in the recommended range wasn't good enough. Ay, crumb. I opted NOT to get the alignment there. I saved the print-out, though, and showed it to my regular place of service who told me you don't need one. Then, for the final insult, they tried to tell me I needed to buy a new bulb for a light not showing up in the icons on the dash-board, which problem did not exist when I arrived and I had just bought the car six months ago. I said no, you need to re-set that. The worker hollered to the mechanic, "hey, re-set that!" Go here if you just need a deal on tires and don't mind waiting 2.5 hours for one tire. But guard your wallet. They aren't to be trusted for anything else. read more

I have been going to this location for 100% of my car servicing for the past 6 years. The customer service is great. Definitely make an appointment. They get very busy. They will make suggestions for further service and maintenance. I always ask, "Is this based on something you SAW or the mileage of the car?" And "Is this a NOW thing or can it wait until my next oil change?" Then I can make an informed decision. They are not nearly as solicitous as the dealer (because they don't work on commission), so they won't give you a guilt trip for choosing to delay a certain service. Tip: Do get lifetime alignment if you plan to go back to firestone for every oil change. I get my wheels aligned every time I go and my tires last way longer. read more

Never again! It took me FOUR visits to get an A/C compressor installed correctly. In those four visits I encountered both lazy and unethical business practices. Visit 1 - Took my car in late May 2018 when my A/C was blowing hot air. Paid ~$1,100 for parts and labor related to a new air compressor. Visit 2 - Brought the car back a couple weeks later when someone notified me my undercarriage tray was dragging the ground. The tray had not been bolted back on correctly after the compressor installation. Visit 3 - Brought the car back in early Sep 2018 when my A/C started blowing hot air again. Received a call shortly after dropping the car off notifying me the A/C was working properly after reconnecting a lose connection. When I arrived to pick up the car the A/C was still blowing hot air! They called the tech who had worked on the car and he explained that the compressor had not been installed correctly, as the faulty connection should have been hard wired. Instead of hard wiring it, as it should have been, he popped back in the faulty connection just to see if that would work. It didn't! Visit 4 - Returned a couple days later (after sweating through my clothes in late summer heat) to have the connection hard wired properly. So not only was the initial installation not done correctly, after discovering the problem they tried to take the short cut a second time around. NEVER AGAIN! read more
