We have used this Firestone location for regular service/maintenance and the not-so-regular stuff (brakes, a/c, a radiator that decided it had enough). They always provide great service. The facility is clean, has good hours, and is conveniently located in the middle of Fort Sam. They are usually able to get our vehicle in quickly and service it quickly. I feel that they do a thorough job, explain things well, provide accurate and detailed quotes, and never try to upsell us. I trust the staff there to give me honest information about my car (and yes, I have gotten 2nd opinions for the pricier jobs, and I do have more than a basic underatanding of vehicles). If there is ever an issue, they make it right. We will continue to use Firestone for the services they are able to provide. *They do not do transmission flushes, so we will go elsewhere for that, but if they did, I'd use them. read more

I called yesterday about getting my car checked for my inspection sticker and they said they start at 8am. I came the next day at 8 am, for them to tell me they dint start until 9 am. I then get there at 9 am for then to tell me someone won't be there till an hr and a half. The amount of miscommunication, and driving back and forth I did is ridiculous. Lots need to improve at this location for anyone to consider it a quality brand name establishment. Always getting the up-charge talk, always waiting around all day even when you make an appointment for a certain time. Shop usually states they are understaffed so that's what takes so long on literally everything. I've dropped my car off before multiple times in the early morning and a simple oil change or service diagnostic and I won't get any updates until after 4-5Pm. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

I've had great experiences here for the last several years on post. They have always been timely, professional, and honest. They might lose 1/2 star for upselling but I assume if you're in sales this is necessary. We've come here for everything from new tires to inspections to mechanical issues. No problems. UPDATE THIS PLACE WILL OVERCHARGE YOU ON LABOR. The only thing you should get from these people is your annual safety check. They said I needed a new battery and wanted to charge $50 for labor. That's insane, when I questioned it he said my battery is difficult to get to...no it's not at all. Walmart will do it for free if you are unable to. Even after looking at all of the reviews I decided to try for a safety inspection during my lunch. I was told that my vehicle would be ready by 1245-1. 1:00 rolls around and I check on it to find out that it hasn't even been pulled back. Ended up leaving because I had to go back go work. I've spent thousands of dollars at various Firestone's over the years and never really had an issue until I got to this firestone. Today I brought in my car for an inspection. It failed because of streaking windshield wipers. These wipers were one month old. The only thing I can conclude is they tried to upsell me and make my $7 visit a $87 visit. This was the second time this particular Firestone tried to sell me something that was brand new. I'll never spend a dime at another firestone. Go somewhere else. read more

Took my car there for a State Inspection. The employee told me to expect a 30- to 45-minute wait. 45 minutes later, they call the phone number on record, despite my sitting in the lobby 10 feet away from them. Fortunately, mi esposa was home to answer. Another client had exactly the same experience. These folks move at a glacial pace with no effort to be efficient. I left 90 minutes later. So I'm finally to the point where I'm writing a review. The single star has been earned over time (and my giving in to the local convenience due to work). First I need to say that I grew up working on cars, so I know my way around them pretty well. My first car had points and a distributor, I didn't have money to put it in the shop, and my father wasn't going to fix it for me (thanks, dad. Seriously - I learned a lot because of that). So I learned how to rotate tires, do brakes, change oil, change a thermostat, gap points, use a timing light, and replace suspension components (among many other things - like replace a head gasket for instance). So what I'm about to tell you isn't just random garbage from a random argument and poor service (but there's also been plenty of that). Second I always trust but verify. If they said they did something I check it afterward. I've left this shop after having alignments and found hand loose tie rod backing nuts (this is EXTREMELY dangerous). I've had oil changes where the new oil wasn't past the end of the bottom mark on the dipstick (the clerk swore that I was 'in the safe zone'. Which is true until just a little bit of oil is used and your crank journals are suddenly shot from not having enough lubricant. The crankshaft is bathed in oil from the oil pan - not enough and your engine is shot). I've been told by their tech with '13 certifications' that '0W-20 oil means that the oil is 20W at -35 degrees Fahrenheit.' They can't balance wheels to save their lives (I've had the wheels force balanced to correct their screw ups. They 'did me a favor' once and balanced/rotated them which forced another $100 force balance to correct the plethora of weights they had on the wheels). I will readily admit that they are convenient to use if you work on base. Drop your car off in the morning and during lunch, or after work, you can pick up your car to find more headaches than solutions. Never again. And no, there is no amount of free shit or coupons you can give me to take down this review. (Unless they delete it themselves - I've copied this to my notebook so I'll just slap it back up if it comes down). read more

I noticed a nail in my back tire of my Jeep Wrangler Thursday night. Decided to go with Firestone on base since it would be "convenient," that was clearly not smart on my part. I dropped my vehicle off at 7am, was told it would be complete by 1pm. Got a call at 12:30 saying it would be longer. No big deal. At 2 I got a call saying that the tire was irreparable because the nail was too close to the shoulder. Again, I understood that there was that possibility. Firestone recommended a new tire that would have been $217.00 but it was not the tire selection I wanted so I asked for them to place my spare tire on and I'd be in to pick it up within the hour. I got to the store 45 minutes after talking with one of the managers over the phone about putting the spare on. I paid for the work done and walked out to the back of the store to grab my jeep and leave. I noticed the spare hadn't been put on my jeep. Went back into the store and was given an excuse about how come the spare wasn't put on but got my money back and left. I wound up going to discount tire near base because they had the tire brand I wanted. AJ, one of the managers at discount came out and took a look at the nail in my tire. Within a minute, AJ grabbed the nail from my tire handed it to me and said, "hey, yeah you're good to go, there's absolutely nothing wrong with your tire. The nail didn't even puncture the rubber on it." The tire has maybe been used for 6k miles so it is pretty new. I went back into Firestone this morning to speak with a manager about the issue and was told he wouldn't take the responsibility for the technician who worked on my vehicle. I was also told the Tech had to leave early yesterday and apparently did not communicate to someone else about the work left needing to be done on my jeep (putting the spare on). I showed the small nail to him and he seemed unbothered by recommending over $200 worth of work that did not even need to be done because the tire was fine. In fact, he said he still would have recommended a new tire. Firestone has a sign with their mission statement from Harvey Firestone about being honest right above the check out counter in the store. Recommending unneeded work/tire replacement doesn't seem honest to me. I won't be back and I won't recommend this company to anyone in the future. I went back one week later after I noticed the mistake to have him change it, since I was going to retitled my car. Before I could even explain the mix-up, he started to actually raise his voice and yell at me that I hadn't gone to the DMV yet. I also didn't need for him to call me sweetie and hun and talk down to me. I mean he was yelling and asking me what I do all day and that he told me I should go immediately after the inspection. I replied that I have a job and a life and its really none of his business when I go to the DMV, I just needed him to fix the mileage. Then he started telling me that of course it would be different since I waited so long to go to the DMV (a week?). I had to physically take him over to my car and show him the mistake....then he finally apologized... Just PCS'd from Fort Lewis WA... I had them simply change my oil and rotate tires... I didn't have any check engine lights or oil lights on. I get in and see the check engine light is on. They said it was a gas valve and would need to pay $200 to replace... And that if they took the check engine light off it would just turn back on. A month later the light didn't come on again and it's VERY sketchy to go in with no issues and walk out with issues that weren't there before. BEWARE of this place. read more

FIRESTONE! I have Firestone tires on my vehicle that are about 12 months old with plenty of tread remaining. Ugh, I go over a nail in the center of the tire tread and it is enough of a leak to cause me to fill the tire up every week. So I try Fix-O-Flat. This lasts ok for about 3 months, but the leak returned and slowly got worse. Eventually I awoke one morning and the tire was almost flat. So I take it to Firestone Complete Auto Care near home. Firgured this was the best place as they were Firestone tires. "Sorry," the mechanic says, "it is Firestone policy to not fix tires that have had Fix-o-flat put into them." He then adds, "we can replace it with a new tire, however." I'm sure you can! So I take it to Discount Tire Co. I asked him if he could patch a tire that had Fix-o-flat in it. He said of course we can. He checked the tire out and the nail was in a safe area to repair. Cost was free. Tire works great. So long Firestone and your policy. You know, people want a car care place that has the freedom to make their own decisions to take care of their customers and not be binded by corperate rules. I think it is less about safety and more a ploy to get you to purchase new tires. But thats just me! read more

My tires keep getting deflated so after state inspection check a very nice guy told me if it persisted to bring the car back to re adjust the tires. A month later tires are going low again I bring it back and explain what's going on. I made an appointment to minimize the wait. Long story short, I still had to wait an hour just to be told they put air back in and reset the sensor and charged me 20dlls. I totally could've put air in the tires myself!! Absolutely pitiful service. I made a noon appointment to get the oil changed in my 2013 Jeep and it took them over an hour and a half to complete the oil change. I was hoping to get this done over lunch and get back to work, but instead had to call to let my commander know I would be late. The most frustrating parts of the whole experience were not being informed of anything the whole time I was waiting and looking at the counter and seeing 3 or more people on texting their cell phone behind the counter doing nothing productive. This being my first experience at a Firestone I can assure you it will also be my last. Do yourself a favor and avoid this location at all cost. read more

Went in for an oil change, tire rotation, and a Texas vehicle inspection. My car had no prior issues before coming to this building. I was told I had corrosion on the battery, which has happened before but was resolved with no further issues. I waited 3 hours just for the car to not start after paying. I went back inside and they took another look at it and said it was my starter. Now, I don't know all too much about cars, but after having changed a starter twice in a previous car, I knew it wasn't that. They told me to "keep an eye on it". The next day my car dies in the parking lot at work, so I called for a tow only to end up needing a jump. I called Firestone the first thing the next morning and they continually stated it was the starter. I later took the car to a local advanced auto parts for a diagnostic and the battery was fine, but the negative terminal was loose. Firestone tried to con me out of almost $300 for a new starter when their certified mechanics couldn't (or didn't) even properly tighten the battery. Why wouldn't the battery terminals be the first thing that comes to mind when someone says their car won't start? Why jump to a starter? I will never take my car to another Firestone after this experience. *update- I recently took my car to Broadway Tire and Auto for a second opinion on all the work that was done. I explained that the car shakes when I reach 60mph on the highway and asked if they could check the tires. Upon pick up I was told that my tires weren't balanced at all, and that it had been corrected. As previously stated, I will never bring any vehicle back to a firestone. read more

It is quite convenient as it is on post. I have read many negative reviews about this place, but I have used this location on two of my vehicles: 4Runner and Camry. Personally, I have not had any problems or complaints. I made appointments for both of my vehicles (oil change, tire rotation, cabin filter change) and no issues for any of the services. They have had recommended services, but did not try to push it on me. They just said if I had any questions to let them know or do my own research. I am just glad that they were not trying to sell me services that I did not necessarily need. Furthermore, my vehicles were usually done within two hours. I just wish that there were more places to sit (as there are only two tables that are all the way in the back). Other than that, it is convenient and service was great (at least for me). read more

Not sure why all the negative reviews. I have been to this establishment three times with nothing but positive things to say. First, I was seen on time for each of my appointments and was out within 10 minutes of their estimated time. Second, even though they found other problems with my car they did not pressure me to get the work completed, instead they documented everything with a detailed explanation of the parts and labor in case I decided to get the work completed at a later date. Third, they were willing to work with me when I decided in the middle of the appointment I would like to get additional work completed. I feel like they have been honest with me concerning the necessities needed and those which can wait. It is always a good feeling knowing that the person behind the counter cares and is not there just to make another buck. I will continue to take my car to the Firestone located on Fort Sam Houston, as it is convenient and I can truly say I trust the staff! read more

I don't know how they're still in business other than the fact that it's just in a convenient location. I have serviced my car three times here and each time had a pretty bad experience. It was no cheap, simple maintenance servicing but a good chunk of change each time. Also, forget fast timely servicing. Whether it's an oil change, or something more extensive, be prepared to leave your car with them for the whole day. They are also good about up-selling you too. Each visit I sign the papers and leave only to be called a few minutes later stating that something else is required, blah blah blah. Without fail, each visit that happened. The first time was a 100,000 mile maintenance (timing belt, water pump). By the end of the day, servicing done, picked up the car, was headed out to meet a friend. I wasn't too far before I got a call from them stating that they forgot to give me my wheel lock and that they needed to "check something". So I go back and they gave me the wheel lock after checking that the bolts were tightened on my car. Serious?! I could've been driving around with loose wheels and possibly have gotten into a serious accident? Whatever, brushed it off...just maybe an innocent accident. 2nd visit I needed new spark plugs, 2 new front tires, oil change. Again they tried to up-sell me about some gasket or something over the phone after I left. Took them all day to find out that the wheel lock didn't fit! I explained to them that the last time it was used was by them. Getting angry now. Expressed my annoyance but received no real apology. They actually expressed that they were doing me a favor by breaking the wheel lock and replacing it. So they're fixing a problem that they themselves caused but they're doing me a favor? Costing me another day? The representative even broke down the pricing to me just show how much I "saved." That's the least they should be doing in a customer service-centric business. Anyway, all the other services were completed but the new wheel locks have been ordered but not yet received. When I came to pick up my car, the rep told me that I could leave it there or just bring it back the next day and they'll take care of it. He told me the wheel lock may come in later that evening but definitely by tomorrow. Didn't sound like a big deal, the part was enroute, definitely be there by morning or something if it doesn't make it in by evening right? Anyway, I opted to pick up my car since I needed it that day to run errands even though it was getting a little late. Next day, came in sometime in the late morning to afternoon, I believe. Thought it would just be a quick in and out (to a degree) but I find out the guy wasn't even in to work yet and didn't pick up the part either! So what was the solution? Leave my car there until he picks it up. Of course the car is left there the whole day. Picked up my car and guess what? The alignment is off! Drove it for a week or two, (maybe it's in my head, and I'm just driving angry looking for something to nitpick). Nope, one of my friends randomly asked why my steering wheel was crooked when I was driving straight. Took it in finally last week-still the same problem. They initially told me that it was the wear on my tires that's pulling it that way. When I bought 2 new front tires, they had placed it on the rear and they explained it's for better stability. I don't really buy that, but some people have told me it does. However, my rear tires were already old, I'd rather have the brand new tires in the front or at least have had that option when checking it in. Also, if they knew about that, why would they go ahead and place them in the front anyway?! Anyways, the alignment is covered for 12months. I will bring it in and have them rotate tires to my preference and re-check the alignment. If it's still not fixed, then I will be convinced that they are incompetent and don't know what they're doing. Probably will have to cut my losses and find a better auto shop. Other than that, I will no longer come in as a paying customer. read more

Needed to get my brake pads and rotors changed on my truck, so I decided to call and see if they could do it quick knowing its a pretty simple and quick job. I called at around 4:20pm, to see if they could do it. I know its late in the day, but that's exactly why I called. I was told over the phone that it would be no problem and they could do their brake inspection and my rotors and brake pads changed before closing at 7:00pm, so I said cool i'm on my way now. I get there about 15 minutes later and the guy at the desk proceeds to tell me that they wont be able to have it done, so i proceed to tell him what I was just told by another employee. He then (obviously irritated) leaves the counter to go find who i talked to. A couple minutes later he comes back and says ok we can get it done it might just be a couple hours. Again, knowing its later in the day, I say alright no problem and hand over the keys and he tells me he'll call me when its ready. My wife and I then go walk around base to waste some time, when I get a call from them around 6:30pm telling me they cant get it done today. I'm obvously a little irritated but i'm alright since i knew in the back of my mind there was a possibility that it may not get done. When I get there I tell the new front desk guy i'm here to pick up my truck. When he finally finds my keys, I ask if they at least got a chance to check out my rotors to see if they actually need replaced or just resurfaced. (Yet again, knowing this is a simple job and just knowing that would be worth the drive in) He then tells me that they didn't even pull my truck in and asks if I want to come back tomorrow. Needless to say by this time, I'm obviously irritated. I ask why i was told over the phone that it would be no problem getting it in and out and then coming all the way in and them not even being able to check it out. Here's where his attitude starts and he starts saying how I came way after i called, when I then pulled out my phone and showed him the time I called, and the time i dropped off my truck. He didn't have a response. Then he tried to tell me it was the other guys fault because he told them to call me earlier, so I shouldn't have had to wait around doing nothing. He also tried using the excuse that a lot more cars came in during the two hours I was out wasting my time. I looked at him like "what?" Why would you service other vehicle that came after mine but not take the time to knock out my job like you told me previously you would? Maybe its just me but that is probably the most idiotic excuse I have EVER heard. After I put down all of his excuses I proceeded to tell him I would never come back and that coming in was a complete was of my time and gas. Never once did he look me in the eye, all he did was stare at he floor and glance at the older guy next to him. I've only had my vehicles serviced twice at a Firestone garage and both times have been absolutely horrendous. The other was all the way in New Jersey, so I thought maybe it was just a regional thing with having bad service. Boy, was I wrong. I highly advise against going to this Firestone or any Firestone for that matter. If you are looking for lousy customer service, and work that they tell you will be done, not being done, this is your place, But if your like myself and value quality work, along with people skills you'll want too look elsewhere. read more

I dropped my car off at 9 am. They said one oil change was ahead of mine, but it would only take a couple of hours to complete my oil change and tire rotation, balance, and alignment. I purchased the lifetime rotation, balance, and alignment for my car last year, so I don't have to worry about the price for that. I called them at 3:30 in the afternoon to see if my car was done yet. They told me that they had tried calling me earlier because they did not want to rotate or balance my tires because I needed to purchase new tires on my car. My car only has 25,000 miles on it. I know I am a female, but that does not mean that I am entirely incompetent when it comes to vehicles. I informed them that I still wanted the rotation, balance, and alignment done on my car. They told me it would take another 30 minutes before it was done. I arrived to the shop after 5 in the afternoon only to be informed that they still needed to do the rotation, balance, and alignment for my vehicle and that it would be another 30 minutes. I told them that I needed to leave because I have other obligations as a parent, such as picking my children up from daycare. The guy at the counter told me that people like myself were the reason as to why he has grey hair. Uhm...Is it supposed to be my fault that you have shitty customer service and try to screw people over by telling them they need to buy additional items for their vehicles that they don't even need???
