I had a four - tire service scheduled for 10 AM on July 18th. I was told when I checked in that would be over an hour no more than two. I was there at 9:45 am. I ended up being there for nearly 4 hours waiting for new tires to be put on my car, while they were very apologetic regarding how long it was and that a technician had called out. I understood as the staff was very polite and friendly.but waiting nearly 4 hours was unacceptable. When you only have so much time off, you plan everything out and this backed up my whole day I hope others have better luck on waiting times than I did. read more

I took my car to the Firestone on Granby Street for a Virginia state inspection, and my experience was extremely disappointing. The inspection itself took about 2 to 2 1/2 hours, which I had no issue with. The problems started when they called to tell me my car was ready. Over the phone, I was told it would cost around $1,100 in repairs for my car to pass inspection. I declined because I couldn't afford that and said I would get a second opinion. The employee immediately started offering financing. When I arrived to pick up my car, I was handed a printed estimate for over $2,500, not the $1,100 I had been quoted on the phone. That huge difference immediately made me question the accuracy of everything I had been told. Several of the issues they claimed my car had also didn't make sense based on very recent maintenance: * They told me my oil level was low, even though I had my oil changed less than a week earlier. * They said one of my brake lights was out, but it had been checked during my recent oil change and was working properly. * They recommended replacing my air filter, even though I had just been told it was only slightly dusty and didn't need replacement yet. * They claimed my car needed an alignment, even though I haven't experienced any signs that it does. On top of that, they removed my car key from my key ring and didn't even put it back. It may seem like a small thing, but it reflected the lack of care I experienced. The biggest disappointment was the customer service. The employee was friendly and welcoming when I dropped my car off, but after I declined the repairs, the attitude changed noticeably. I felt like I was treated differently simply because I chose not to have the work done there. I understand that vehicles can legitimately need repairs, and I always encourage people to maintain their cars. However, the inconsistent pricing, questionable inspection findings compared to very recent maintenance, poor customer service along side the unsettling reviews left me with very little confidence in this location. I booked an appt for 11 am on a Saturday. Past due for an oil change (it slipped my mind), and I had noticed the smell of burning oil and smoke coming from under my hood. When I came in, a man who appeared to be the manager was immediately condescending when asking how it is that we suspect an oil leak, and scoffed when I rejected the $99 diagnostics "care package." Like another reviewer, I was told to sign agreeing I'd seen an estimate of the charge before they could even tell me the estimate. I found out after the fact that it was $126 for the oil change-- $72 for the oil change itself and $50 for the "Complete Vehicle Inspection Plus" which they seem to automatically include with an oil change even if not requested. I picked it up 6 hours later, & they claimed they saw nothing indicating an oil leak. Imagine our (un)surprise when the problem persisted, and we popped the hood to still see smoke and oil pooling at the bottom. Taking it to the dealership next weekend. I went in for an oil change right before Christmas as i was doing a long drive to GA. When my truck was ready to be picked up i was told it looked great and to never get rid of the truck. I drove it less than 2 miles and the check engine light came on. I went back to the shop the next morning. They were of course rude right of the bat. "This wouldnt have anything to do with the oil change" they came out and check the oil. It was bone dry. They then accused me of not getting an oil leak fixed. From a previous visit. I had never been there prior to the oil change. They then said I had an oil leak when I brought it in for the oil change and it got lost in the notes and thats why they didnt tell me. They said it was such a massive oil leak that it drained out in 2 miles. And i would need to keep adding oil and shouldnt dive to GA I had them show me the oil and show me the codes they pulled. I had them add the oil (the whole bottom of my eng was covered) and reset the computer. Its been 4 weeks now and theres no oil leak, and my check engine light never came back on. I cant tell you how or what actually happened but something isnt right here. They clearly messed up an oil change and then lied about it. I almost didnt go home for Christmas. read more

Car stuff is never convenient or cheap but I never feel like these guys are trying to pull the wool over my eyes; it is helpful to check the website for any relevant coupons though. Dropped my car off on a Friday afternoon to get an alignment done, and I was told that it'd be done the next day, Saturday. This was fine with me. 2pm on Saturday, I call and ask if there are any updates on the vehicle. I am then told that I was misinformed, because there was no master tech in over the weekend and they couldn't start working on the car until Monday. Monday morning comes, I call first thing in the morning to make sure they're aware of my car, because it's now been sitting there over the weekend. I am told they'll move it up the list because of that, and it'll be ready mid-morning. I then call at 12pm for an update, and I'm told that they haven't even looked at it yet. Now as of 4pm on Monday, I just called again, and was told someone would reach out to me, because they person I'm speaking with on the phone is doing "closing paperwork" (they close at 6pm, 2 hours from now). Even when I get my car (whenever that'll be), nothing can change my mind about this place. Genuinely insane customer service. read more

Went to Firestone for a state inspection because my dealership is almost an hour away and I was going out of town and wanted to try to get it done before the 1st. Drop off was fine, little busy but that's to be expected at the end of the month. One of the employees of Firestone called me a few hours later to tell me unfortunately that my vehicle failed inspection, I had a nail in 3/4 of my tires which I had no clue about because they hadn't been leaking at all but what can ya do, but also for my front control arms and then quoted me almost 900 to replace those and complete an alignment, I declined and told them I would call my dealership for this work on my vehicle. Then went on to list other things that were noted in the inspection to where I got lost in the sauce of the explanation to the point where I called back to ask for more information on what specifically failed on the inspection. When I called my dealership to make the appointment and get the quote they had me at less than 450 for the same job, and then today during my re-inspection they came back and told me the technician inspecting my vehicle did not find that those front control arms needed any work and my vehicle PASSED inspection. I would have had no problem paying to have this work done, but what I do have a problem with is the fact that Firestone quoted me 450 dollars more for the same job and it turned out that my vehicle didn't even require it. Moral of the story go to your dealership when you can to avoid being haggled and lied to, and AVOID GOING TO THIS FIRESTONE IF YOU CAN. I will never go back. read more

This is gonna be long-winded. Got my truck towed here cause the wheel bearing self-destructed. Got a quote for $1200, they got started. Day or so in they told me the upper control arms needed replacing, another $600. I declined, I'd fix those after I got my truck back cause those are easy. Another day goes by and they tell me that the new knuckle doesn't fit right, maybe something's bent? But they're gonna see what they can do. I go by to check, take a look at the old parts and the new cause I've worked on cars for years, this is the first repair I've let anyone else do on my truck. Fair enough, parts don't look the same. They'll continue to figure it out. Then they ask if they can source from a junkyard cause nothing is fitting. I'm fine with that, done it myself several times. They call me finally, a week after it was towed there, to let me know it was done, the alignment is perfect, I can come pick it up. I drove it home, noticed it's pulling to the right. Alignment is not perfect. Call to inform them of this and they tell me that they did everything they could to align it, I'd need to take it elsewhere for an alignment and they'd reimburse me. Decided I'd go get the alignment checked somewhere else after work Monday (I didn't drive it over the weekend cause I wanted the alignment rechecked). I made a mistake and took it down the highway to get to work. I nearly had a panic attack at the way it handled. Something was very definitely wrong. I took it to another Firestone and waited while they tried to align it. When they were done, they informed me that they did the best they could, but the wrong parts had been installed on my truck, so there was no way to correctly align it. I paid over a grand and waited a week for a piss poor repair job that could have cost me my life if I didn't know how to handle my truck properly. And on top of that, I was left stranded and had to figure out a way home without a vehicle. Completely unacceptable. The only acceptable part of the situation is that the store manager agreed to let the other store handle fixing it without further cost to me. Edited to add: The shop did cover the cost to have the other Firestone I took it to install the correct parts, so they did do the right thing in the end. read more

We have visited Firestone on Granby two times now. Everyone is respectful and a pleasure to work with. Our most recent visit involved a tire repair on our 83yr old grandmother's car before she had to drive it down to Florida. We shared this information with the technicians and they clearly took note -- they repaired the tire and put extra effort in to ensure the car was ready for her drive. Went to get an oil change and tire rotation. Was rescheduled 3 times in one week by their computer system because it "was not working right". When I went to the appointment they tried to get to me to sign saying that I had reviewed the quote and agreed to pay it even though they never provided a quote. When I asked for a quote I was told it would be $188 for an oil change and tire rotation and that it would take a minimum of 2 hours. The young man at the desk then proceeded to "give me discounts" while he obviously just made up arbitrary numbers. When I asked him to repeat a quote he would just make up a new number and could not consistently remember the quote that he provided 2 mins prior. He eventually landed on $120 for just an oil change and told me "that's a cheap price for an oil change". This was after I presented him with a coupon from their website for a $40 oil change. I have never paid that much for an oil change anywhere else before and left with my car. I'm a young woman and have honestly never been treated like this at any mechanic shop before. I am so disgusted by the blatant price gouging with the assumption that I wouldn't know enough to know this was a scam. Highly recommended you go somewhere else. read more

Brought my vehicle in because the coolant kept getting low. I was told there was no leak but the throttle body needed to be replaced and that was the cause of the burning off of the coolant. Two days after I got me car back the coolant was low again. I then took it to another Firestone on Battlefield and what did they find? A leak, it cost me $600 to replace the throttle body then it cost me another $400 to fix the leak. On top of that they suggested I get the coolant changed out and when I picked my car the coolant had not been changed although I was charged for it. read more

Dropped off my Lexus over night on Friday, for flat tire repair to be done on Saturday. I told the tech that air is leaking about 3-4 psi everyday and indicated the problem tire. They wasted the whole Saturday and then at 5:45pm returned my car with a note "nail found in the tire but it's not leaking air" so they left the nail and did nothing. But they did charge me $63 dollars for wheel's balancing which was not the issue at all. I feel compelled to call the Norfolk store on Granby out on this one. I took my car in almost two years ago because the AC wasn't blowing cold. It was hot and my regular mechanic was booked, so I took it down the street to Firestone. Long story short, it needed a new compressor, $1,200. I took the car in on June 11th, got every excuse in the book as to why they couldn't get it working, but it was finally ready on July 28th. Yeah, a month and a half for an AC compressor. I wouldn't believe it if it hadn't happened to me. It worked, I was moving to SC, so I put the experience behind me. Now, less than two years later, the compressor has failed. My mechanic tells me to call Firestone because he says the compressor should have a 2 year, 24,000 mile warranty. According to Firestone, it didn't, no more warranty. My mechanic does some more digging and finds that the compressor failed because Firestone failed to flush the system, which clogged a valve and caused the new compressor to fail. Using his words, they "cut a lot of corners". Cut corners, and they still had my car for a month and a half. Now, I'm paying an additional $2,200 to have it done right. Not sure what recourse I have, but I'm investigating. Think long and hard before getting work done there. read more

Easily the worst experience I've had with a Firestone. I made an appointment for my car to have an oil change and I dropped it off a day early to get it in line for a state inspection. We had a storm come through and caused the store to have phone lines down (not complaining about that at all). I got a call telling me to use a separate number and I called back twice. When I came to pickup my car (hours after it should have been ready)- not only did they not do the state inspection but they didn't do the oil change either. The reasoning is that they "were waiting for me to call them back". 1. I called back, and no one answered. 2. Why would you not do any of the work I dropped it off for? Regardless- the team is rude, and there is no communication. I will not being returning, and I absolutely would not recommend this Firestone to anyone. read more

Always smiles and excellent service when I get my oil change taken care of in Ghent. I always appreciate that my wait is no more than one hour. This location is 0.5 mile from my apartment and it's extremely convenient as its on Granby too! Auto repair facilities are hard to review because of their overall reputation as rip-offs with poor service, but this place is pretty good. I've used them several times for tires, maintenance and minor repairs. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and repairs are done correctly. You do have to have some patience, as your car may not be ready at the promised time. It's a very busy place with not enough mechanics (it's gotten worse since the pandemic). Overall, however, I recommend this Firestone. read more

My initial visit to this location was for my first VA state inspection and a tire repair - reasonable prices and great service. I was able to schedule the appointment same day. The reason for my review is the exceptional customer service I received today. When I tried to remove my out of state plates, the bolts had rusted on. I stopped by Firestone after work and asked if they could help, either today or at a later date. The gentleman at the front desk was happy to help. He spent 15 minutes working on the bolts, even though it was close to closing time. This above-and-beyond service will absolutely make me a return customer. Went for a scheduled alignment just to have some "mechanic" tell me that he couldn't do it due to my jeep having what he described 'frozen' suspension parts. I asked to see which area he was referring to and I received a hesitant answer. when I was brought to my jeep I could see why he was so hesitant-The area he 'worked' on was damaged and torn upfrom the supposed drag link tool he used, showing signs of bare metal and stripped areas on the nuts. the area also showed signs of excessive heat, meaning he tried to free up the spot with a torch. I would've been not as upset had this mechanic cleaned up after himself by at least putting some black paint over his mess but I'm disappointed my I was handed back my jeep, especially hearing how an alignment could not be done. If it wasn't for the kind staff at the front, I wouldn't had given this place a single star. She apologized and refunded me what I originally paid, as well as handing me the current stats on my alignment. The mechanics name was Rick. Beware leaving your vehicle in the hands of these mechanics. They clearly do not treat it as their personal car. read more

I've used this location a number of times. It's a little more expensive than some of the other places I could get my oil changed but it's nearby and the guys that work there are friendly. Today I made an appointment for 3pm and dropped the car off with no problems. Dude at the counter told me it would take a couple hours but they'd have it done before 6, when they close. I swung back by at 6 to find out not only that the work wasn't done but that it wasn't even started. I was told "it somehow slipped through the crack." Its a car, it doesn't fit in cracks. Its a car that sat directly across from the front desk for 3 hours. Its a car that had an appointment and was ignored. The employee returned my keys and apologized but did not offer any sort of discount as a consolation on my next visit, hell he didn't even offer me another appointment. I went to Firestone for new tires. The first time, I was charged ~$300 for 2 tires. Later, I had the other two tires replaced. The cost for the second replacement was ~$230. The inconsistent part became clear when I realized that both purchases were for the exact same tires, at the exact same service center. After months of emails, Firestone couldn't explain the difference, so they offered a complete refund on the second purchase. The delightfully charming store manager, Chuck, processed my refund. He was polite enough to inform me that the Granby Street Firestone was no longer going to serve me; and if I wanted to continue being a Firestone client, I would have to drive out to Aragona. I called in for a last minute appointment and even though they nothing where I could sit and wait, the gentleman on the phone promised if I dropped it off around lunch I could pick it up after work. I found them very accommodating. Also, in reference to another customer, she had some extensive repairs needed, and they guy explained the various options available, the prices for each, and was not pushy for her to do services that she couldn't afford. I was greeted in a friendly manner and told my car would be available the next day. Now mind you, this was over the Labor day weekend. Well, it wasn't done the next day but I was not upset because my husband was around to run errands with me. No biggie because I know these guys were slammed and doing the best they could. Failed a safety inspection at another place due to a tail light being out and brought it to Firestone to get re-inspected. After about an hour, they told me my car had failed and needed $700 worth of repairs to pass inspection. I asked how on earth that was possible, since the car had only failed 2 weeks ago for a tail light being out and they said the other place "must have just missed it." After regretfully paying them $16 for failing me and lying to me, the lady behind the counter picked up the phone and started talking to someone before I could get my keys back. I stood there for over a minute trying to get her attention and she simply acted as though I was not there. I literally had to go back to the garage and ask one of the mechanics to go to the front desk and give me my keys back. Needless to say, I will never return to this place. read more
