Updated review - ever since Marisol left it seems as though the customer service has gone slightly downhill. We used to get emails and prompt service but now I get mixed up appointments, no emails of appointment reminders, and phone calls from service technicians but no voicemails. I know that my appointments usually fall around the 15th of every month but lately it has been a bit after; I had to email once I realized that it was past the 15th and I never received treatment. Once you email, you get a prompt response though, it's just we were used to proactive customer service as to reactive. read more

My roommate and I had a scare last night when she found bugs crawling in her bed. I called First Choice in the morning and since they weren't able to send anyone immediately, Marisol offered that I could email a photo over and she would show a technician. A couple hours later, I received an email from Marisol stating that the bugs were in fact not bed bugs, but termites, which they unfortunately don't treat. I cannot thank them enough for taking the time to look at the photo and get back to me all free of charge. They did a great job at my mothers house. We started noticing a few cockroaches in the kitchen area and wanted to act fast. I recently moved to Los Angeles and was shocked that part of living in the big city means coming across a roach or two! Unfortunately, I was not and never will be okay with having those little buggers in my place--and First Choice Exterminators have made sure that this will never happen! Marisol from First Choice was SO helpful and nice--especially in the face of my many questions, concerns and overall panicky attitude. The prep sheet they provide was super helpful to make sure that everything was ready for their technician. After the first spray, they warn you that it can take 2 weeks it to take full effect. While I understood this, when I saw one disgusting little cockroach come back a week later--I still freaked. I immediately emailed Marisol and she was super helpful, nice and offered to come back and re-spray the apartment (even though they tell you it will take some time). With my tri-plex, we are signed up for recurring treatments for interior and exterior and I couldn't be more glad to be with the company. They are very effective and for this month's treatment, I am using the gel which means that there is no prep that I need to prepare for and no fumes (which is awesome). I am super excited that no longer my top search in google will have to be "how to get rid of roaches" because of the effectiveness of First Choice. read more

I waited 2 months to write this review so I could say for sure that the ants DID NOT come back. I woke up one day in October to the worst ant infestation I have ever seen that seemingly came out of nowhere. I had spotted 1 to 2 ants the night before and laid out a bunch of Terro thinking that would eliminate the problem before it started. Come to find out that was the worst thing I could do and I attracted the whole dang colony into my house. I have a baby so seeing the floor move because it had so many ants on it needed to be taken care of immediately. I called a list of exterminators and hired these guys because they were able to come out right away. They came within an hour and were done in less then 20'minutes. He kindly explained that the Terro is basically ant bait and I should not have laid so much. He found the source of the colony outside and was thorough. The next day we went back into the house and there were thousands of dead ant bodies but not one live one. I have not seen even one since. I would highly recommend them, and if we ever have another emergency will use again. We even just sent our friends their way for their ant problem. read more

I wouldn't bother with this place. The exterminators I've had have been rude, somewhat evasive, and have no concept of costumer service. Unfortunately as a renter - I don't really have a choice in the matter because they work with my building. Here's the thing, if you are calling to get an exterminator to help you with your problem, not only are their attempts to exterminate botched - since we have bug infestations all the time, but they tend to criticize you and your living situation to the point where you feel like an infestation is your fault. I'm fully accountable and understand the basic importance of keeping my (or any) apartment clean. And I get that bugs happen, even with clean freaks. Yet how can come you conduct business by going into a client's home, when they're about to pay you for a service, and feel compelled to criticize / blame them? It doesn't help the situation, and It definitely does not make me want give repeat business to this place, nor do I recommend them. read more

Ray was great! He found some bedbug casings and recommended treatment so I went for it. It's been a few weeks since the last treatment and I havent been bitten since. I have had problems with this company in the past, but I thought things were turning around. A few months ago I started to notice that I had a rodent problem at my home. I reached out this company and the owner came out and did an inspection at which time he told me I was going to have to pay a few hundred dollars in order to get the rodent service. The owner initially told me that I didn't have rodents and it must've been something like a raccoon which I later came to find out was exactly what I thought it was rodents. But during this period of time the owner also suggested I get an exclusion done to patch up all the holes in openings, that was another several hundred dollars . The problem still never got resolved, and when I asked the owner if he was sure all the holes have been patched he got testy and said that they were 100% all patched. A couple of weeks later I had another exterminator come out who showed me several different holes several different points of entry that we're not patch, that had not even been addressed. Meanwhile first choice got away with screwing over me, the consumer. I honestly do not know how this man sleeps at night because he knows that he swindled me out of money. read more

Terrible experience! We worked with these guys a few years ago to handle a rat problem at our house. They set up some poison traps, sealed some gaps where they might have entered but it never really solved the problem and after a few months of paying them, we discontinued service. But part of the service was that they were supposed to have sealed up the house from future critters getting inside. So when we heard some critters up in the attic again, we called them hoping that they'd fix the job they started. Ray showed up, sealed a broken grate under the house and gave a quick peak to the attic. He said he didn't see anything, but really didn't crawl up there to look thoroughly. We suggested he put rat traps up there, but he said he didn't think we needed to, even though we suggested it would be better than having to have him come back. The same night we continued to hear the scampering. When we called to have him come back today, he said he couldn't make it today which was the only time we could get away from work. We had already spent 3 hours away from work the day before waiting for him. When we said we couldn't schedule another 3 hour block of time away from work for him to come and suggested Saturday he said it would be 3 times the price!! Ray was rude, dismissive and has never done a good job in handling our rat problem. We're looking elsewhere!! (editing review, one week later) ...Brought in another company. They identified at least 5 areas where First Choice tech had missed that rats could have entered the house. They also identified that there were fresh rat droppings in the attic where the First Choice tech suggested that we didn't need to put traps. New tech placed traps and sealed the openings. No longer a problem thanks to the new company. Unfortunately, we had to pay for another technician to complete the job that First Choice failed to handle. First choice owner, Dave did call to try and remedy the situation, but only after multiple calls and we finally had hired the new company. If they were honorable, First Choice would refund our money. read more

So I bought the $50 certificate for $30 yelp deal still being advertised. Then I find out 1st Choice bills me for the full amount. (No $50 off. Not even $30 off!) I don't know this at first because I give them my card and yelp deal over the phone. When I find out, I send them a confirmation email from yelp for my deal and they have the audacity to email me back that I'm like someone who eats in a restaurant and then comes back the next day and tries to use a coupon! Totally disregarding I PAID $30 for this "coupon" and bought it a week BEFORE they provided services. Twice I had service from this company and so the problem is not the guys with the poison. It's the poisonous customer service and management/ownership who were in the loop and refused to honor their commitment in the face of the evidence. (Yelp did refund my $30 but that's not the point.) Last summer we had a real problem with hornets coming into our house as many as 20 or more a day. We called and they came within a day and killed all of the hornets by day 5. Great service, professional, and prompt. They give a guarantee also. We had a problem with winter with tiny ants in the house and they came the same day and sprayed the entire house which took care of the problem. I would recommend them highly! read more

I was getting horribly bitten up at night. I had over 50 bites. It was driving me insane!! My landlord called his exterminators to spray my apartment but it wasn't effective. I called 1st choice and spoke to Wendy who was understanding and very accommodating. She made sure an exterminator inspected my apartment immediately. Reynaldo came to my apartment and thoroughly checked my apartment, especially my bed and couch. He assessed that my apartment had become invested with fleas from the neighbor's dog next door and gave me lots of options on how to move forward. I had a very bad experience with their termite fumigation subcontractor. If you have a tile roof don't use them for termite tenting!! After being assured that they knew "how to walk on roof tiles", they trashed mine and now I have to get a roofer to repair the damage. They were like the proverbial bulls in the china shop. I can only hope that the actual fumigation was done properly. Only time will tell I guess. Also. their business office personnel are rude and very disrespectful. A real disappointment. There is a reason this business has 5 stars. I just purchased a house and the seller gave me a termite report from another company. Having seen the how expensive the quote was I decided to get a second opinion and called First Choice. Erik came to my house the next morning and spent over an hour inspecting the property. I got some unwelcome guests & I needed to get rid of them....RATS!! UGH!! I found this company, 1st Choice Exterminators, on Google & read their reviews & decided to call. I spoke with Wendy who was so nice & we made an appointment for Ray to come by & check out the situation. Wendy said Ray would call to let me know he was on his way, which he did & arrived on time. And you know what? Each time I called both Wendy & Ray were consistently as nice, professional, & reliable as they were the first time! I guess I'm not used to that because so many people & companies are flakey. Not so with First Choice Exterminators! So I hired them for one month service & to go around & seal up any openings, which I had done in the past but Ray said rats find other openings or chew out new ones. Anyway, Ray set traps & within the month caught 'em all & promptly returned by the following morning to remove them! But left some traps after the one month service just to make sure there were no leftover squatters!! Their prices are more than reasonable and Wendy & Ray honestly made a bad situation better. I'm giving First Choice five stars, primarily due to their excellent service. Over the weekend, I got attacked, like 30 bites all over my lower body. On Monday, I called First Choice after looking at reviews on Yelp. The guy (sorry - forgot his name!) came home over promptly that afternoon - they squeezed me in because I was in such a panic, even though their day was booked! He couldn't find anything, including bed bugs (thank god), but looked at my bites and recommended a flea treatment. I don't think he was trying to sell me something I didn't need. There was obviously something biting me - it wasn't just hives or something. And I was in a state of craziness about it. He was great. Long story short, I kept booking treatments, then deciding I would wait and cancelling (because I never saw a flea or anything - figured maybe I got bit outside on my porch where stray cats like to hang out. Oh, and my cat didn't have fleas?!). Marasol (I think?), the woman who answered the phone, was the nicest, most understanding person ever. I left rambling voicemails on a daily basis pretty much. She always called me right back. And even though I kept cancelling appointments, she was SO nice about it! I would definitely recommend them. read more
