Definitely an okay spot for Chinese food considering Miami lacks Asian food overall. Not the most authentic, but also a leg up from Panda Express (I do enjoy Panda as well). I've ordered take-out a handful of times (usually General Tso's chicken, wonton soup, house special lo mein, Mongolian beef) and it's ready in 15-20 mins. The serving size is pretty decent; I usually have leftovers when ordering 2 dishes for 2 people. I will definitely return to satisfy my Chinese food craving. read more

I was craving Chinese food on a Sunday and decided to give this place a try. Never again. I ordered the shrimp lo mein and to my surprise the shrimp were not CLEANED. I could not finish my meal as you could still see the poop on the shrimp. Then I decided to give the crab Rangoon a try and it was all cream cheese. It didn't even have imitation crab. Absolutely awful and now I'm questioning how clean this place is. I will not be ordering from this place again. Best available delivery for Chinese food in the downtown Miami area by far. First ordered here about a year ago through Seamless (which I was pleasantly surprised to find available down in Miami) Back then I ordered a lot of their dim sum which I always enjoy having. On a subsequent visit, they were not on Seamless anymore and I was kind of bummed thinking they went out of business. Delivery was quick, maybe about 45 from time that I ordered to delivery. My coworker ordered the cashew chicken lunch special. I ordered the honey chicken lunch special and bbq pulled pork bun (dim sum). The food arrived hot and was great tasting. The lunch specials that we ordered only came with white or brown rice and depending on the day you order, the soup changes. Solid Chinese food in the DT Miami area. Some locals prefer 3 chefs, and the other competitors....but I have had consistent great takeout in 3 years since I moved to the neighborhood. No complaints. I've had rubbery, bland general tso from the other nearby spots, but Hong Kong is always fresh and the flavors are always great. Simple..and cures my monthly cravings. I've been ordering from this place for a while now, basically because they are the closest to me. It can be a little inconsistent at times and that's why I'm giving it only 3 stars. There are times though that the food is 5 stars so I don't get if they just have a complete different team that cooks different at different times but for the most part, everything is good. I especially like to order their special fried rice (which is the most consistent item). The Lo Mein is one of their most inconsistent items which unfortunately we like to order but at times is like the food is from a totally different place. I've had the crispy duck once, delicious. Generally, pretty fast in terms of delivery 30-45 minutes. The food is not bad with the exception of the spare ribs. For some odd reason the ribs come sunken under 1-2 inches of sugary red sauce that coagulates. Essentially, by the end of your dinner you might have issues trying to get the rib out of the box. A Hidden Gem in area with bad options! First Hong Kong Cafe is tucked into the bottom floor of a downtown Miami building in an areas with almost no good lunch options. A friendly native pointed us in the right direction and we were very grateful! Enter the small dining area and you will be quickly seated. The menu has many choices but we ordered from the lunch menu on the last page. Your entree comes with soup or spring roll, white or brown rice. The Szechuan Beef was outstanding and fresh served in large portions. The servers were helpful and quick. They immediately went into the garbage. The chicken and brocolli was mediocre at best. Not much dept in the flavor and my container was under-portioned. The lo mein was horrible and again under-portioned. It also smelt "off" and some of the shrimp were not deveined. The noodles were just bad. The egg drop soup was fine. My total was about $44 and all I kept was the soup. Easily the worst Chinese food I have ever had in my life. This place is not even cheap per se. This is the place for a quick and decently priced lunch. The staff is always very friendly and welcoming. I usually order for pick up, since I work across the street. The food can be hit or miss at times, but there are three items that are my go to that are always delicious. The Singapore noodles is number one on my list. It has such a great spice to it with a great curry flavor. It comes with mixed meat and shrimp. Number two is the shrimp wonton soup. If you get the large it is way more than enough for your actual meal. I sometimes spruce it up by adding mixed veggies to it. And finally number three is the pad thai with chicken. They have amazingly cheap lunch specials that come with your choice of rice (brown or white) and either soup or spring rolls - all for about $9 (not including tax + tip, of course). My two colleagues and I (i.e. three native Manhattan-ites) were in Miami for the sailboat show. We decided to try the Filling Station for beers and burgers - but due to Presidential day holiday - it was closed. Plan B - on the same block - is First Hong Kong Cafe. As sailors - we will take any port in a storm. We can now highly recommend First Hong Kong Cafe. First of all - I have to chuckle at all the one-star reviews about "soggy delivery" and long wait times for delivery. Gimme a break - newbie mistake reviews. Who cares. We only care about the food and flavor. But I digress... Food needs to be eaten hot and fresh at this cozy restaurant. We sat at window table and ordered a round of Tsingtao beer ($4 per) as well as one order of FRIED PORK DUMPLINGS to hold us over while perusing the menu. The dumplings were maybe the best ever enjoyed - highly recommend. Succulent, tasty and somehow - plum sauce was genius. After another round of beers (slow food, slow food) we three ordered one plate of SALT & PEPPER SPICY CHICKEN WINGS. OMG. These were delicious - moist, succulent, covered in green/red peppers and onions and packed with flavor. We literally cleaned the plate - they did not need to send through a dishwasher - it was so clean. After another round of beers - we placed order for the SINGAPORE RICE NOODLES These were also delicious - with roast pork and shrimp - and a subtle yet pungent yellow curry flavor. The single dish could feed many - but we three slowly devoured it. I have eaten Singapore Noodles in Hong Kong - and I have eaten Hong Kong Noodles in Singapore. In any case - I would order this dish again in a heartbeat. We topped off the meal with some GENERAL TSO CHICKEN Also very delicious - and the white and brown rice were cooked to perfection. Look. We three have been to Hong Kong - and we asked the owner why there were no "real Hong Kong dishes" on the menu (other than roast duck) of a restaurant called HONG KONG. Same story as always - they cater to American palate - but if you know a HONG KONG special dish then ask and maybe they can accommodate you. BTW No spicy crabs - but friendly owner recommends "spicy-clams" . Next time will order such. In any case - on appearance - this is your standard hole in the wall Chinese restaurant (i.e. take no offense please) but the quality and expertise of the dishes is incredible. We will be back here again next year when we visit Miami for sure. Also - Carol our waitress - was professional and courteous beyond belief. She really took great care of us - and yes - everything in this restaurant is beautiful. I'm mostly a broke kid who probably has too much time on her hands and likes to go out ALOT. Downtown Miami is one of my favorite spots to be in daytime or nighttime, and having worked at a Chinese restaurant before I thought I knew everything there was to know about Chinese food but I was wrong. Went in for some house special fried rice, bit pricey for the food imo (coming from Hialeah where the chinese food is cheap & plentiful) but I couldn't help but want some more food. You open up the box and you see such huge pieces of shrimp, so juicy, ah, people jumbo shrimp CAN and DOES exist in fried rice and this place proves it, the rice isnt drenched in soy either, it has flavor and texture mostly coming from the huge chunks but I ain't complaining. Also ordered hot & sour soup. Mind you, I worked at a chinese restaurant before, and being an extremely picky eater I never thought I would like hot & sour soup, much less it become my favorite chinese dish, with this said I like to call myself the Hot & Sour soup nazi, always harshly judging every chinese restuarant's soup for I feel that it would never compare to my former's boss's dad's recipe (Hong Kong chef for over 40 years) and well short story short, this restaurant's soup was amazing! Its red and spicy and those bamboo shoots, lordy those bamboo shoots kill it! The texture is right on dot and the only regret I had was not ordering the large portion and adding too many crispy noodles (which i found out were homemade too). You guys need to try this soup! So all in all I went in for safe chinese dishes, and walked out satisfied. Only downside is I'm broke again (I'm only 19!) but I'll happily come back here when I'm in downtown and order more rice and try those beef dishes they serve up on those big plates. read more

Just a small town boy here, came to Miami for a week vacation with some friends. Of course I hit up the typical Miami spots like South Beach and Bayside but after a long day of shopping in the downtown area we are stuck on what to eat. I know downtown Miami is known for some good south american dishes but this being the last day of the trip we were a bit tired of Cuban food and other flavorful South American places (I know who would be but after eating the same kind of food for days straight you just can't take it anymore!) So we pass by this restaurant. My first impression, its not like any other Chinese Place I've ever seen. Certainly NOT cheap looking or tacky little ornaments everywhere, the look and feel of place was certainly welcoming. We were greeted and then my friend Becca who's from Beijing asked if the chef was Chinese. He was. And that was enough for Becca to want to stay. We ordered some yummy dumplings as appetizers. I don't remember the name sorry but had shrimp in it. Oh god, they were so soft and warm and delicious! The little sweet sauce that came with it totally makes it good. I ordered another one for myself. Then we had the Hong Kong noodles. Very yummy rice noodles and the portion sizes were huge! I've been to Pei Wei and for the same price of one entree you get what seems like two entrees here! And I've never seen a chinese place offer a choice of brown rice with their chicken dishes, thats a new one. I ordered the General Tsao's chicken on Uber Eats. In the photos, it shows that it comes with Broccoli. It doesn't. Second, the chicken is not moist and succulent, but dry, rubbery and hard. Think jerky. Either the chef can't control the temperature, or more likely the chef reheated a previous order in the microwave to resell. Avoid this place. Btw, the hot and sour soup has no acid. First of all I must say that everything I ordered came very quickly. I loved that. I ordered the General Tso Chicken Lunch Special that came win either white or brown rice and spring rolls or soup. I chose white rice and the spring rolls. Spring rolls were smaller than I'm used to but it was all good except the rice, I didn't really touch it. A lot of food so I didn't mind much.
