I'm actually embarrassed to say I brought my guest here from out of town. I've never seen such a mess. Tables outside were vacant and completely dirty, filled with items left behind from previous customers. No one has been outside to clean the tables and we've been waiting outside for a minimum of 20 minutes. The hostess is visibly overwhelmed and slightly irritated with the volume of customers. The mask mandate inside is not being enforced. I would love to request a table outside but considering ALL 3 are dirty...well, that can't happen. Went to this spot. I had heard so many great things so i was fairly excited. Wsrm greeting, they daid 20 minute wait; no problem except it was 45 minutes. Sat down, it took another 20 mins to get drinks and order. The food comes out and the eggs are hard and cold and the potatoes were also a little cold. That was hubby's order. I was little hesitant about visiting First Watch for breakfast since they are a chain, but Sunday morning I decided to give it a try after passing other restaurants that were packed out. I got to First Watch right on time and didn't have to wait to be seated; there was a big crowd that came after we did. Our server did an excellent job taking care of us. She was very polite and attentive. The food was really good. I had the traditional eggs benedict which was cooked perfectly; when cut into the yolk ran onto my potatoes. Yummy! I've been to a couple different locations in the past. Every time I've been able to order a Mimosa, but after waiting 30 minutes to be seated. I found out that they did not have any alcohol at this location. I was very shocked. I did come in during peak hours so the wait time to be seated was long, but not too bad. It did take us a while to get our food. I ordered the Eggs Benedict Florentine. It was okay. Definitely not my favorite. They could have done something different with the spinach. I had breakfast at the First Watch on Southside Blvd. in Jacksonville Fl, on July 22. As usual, the food was well prepared and service was timely. There were 3 of us dining. However, the surprise was the cost of the coffee!!! We had one carafe, and each of us had a cup for a cost of $3.99 EACH. I can see the carafe costing $3.99, but to charge by the cup is outrageous. The food is pretty good at First Watch. There isn't too much of a wait and your food usually comes out pretty quickly. They have a good variety of foods so you can usually find whatever you want, even if you're not in the mood for breakfast. This time, we used the no wait feature here on yelp and didn't have to leave the house til we knew the wait had gone down for us. I had the pear cider, which was ok. I also had the cinnamon bun waffle which was pretty good. I usually go for egg dishes but I just really wanted a waffle and it was pretty good. The cinnamon bun sauce was just full of cinnamon, maybe too much. I was a little disappointed the waffle didn't come with anything so I had to order an egg for a little protein. First let me say that I do like this place a lot but it just goes to show you how Jacksonville brunch places are. There is no competition in jacksonville because brunch places here are all mediocre at best. So my wife and and I chose the best of the most mediocre....first watch! This place had 9 open tables and made us wait 30 minutes to be seated. 2 bus boys that have had food on their tables for over 20 minutes plus... I never see a manager walking around checking over things. The food is good enough but nothing amazing to recommend. My wife likes the million dollar bacon. I get the feeling that with a small amount of organizational changes this place could be a lot better and that's frustrating to watch. read more

Oh My Goodness!!! They are soooo good and everything is fresh!!! It's so busy here but we were taken care of right away. The service here is top notch! They close at 2:30 so don't wait if you're hungry. :) oh. You have to try their fresh juices too!!! The carrot crush and morning meditation are my favorite. Not a great visit overall. They get busy Sunday mornings and today they just didn't seem to handle it well. In my previous visits there's been a mgr walking around to make sure everything is going well and actually engages the customers to make sure they're happy. Today we checked in and waited to be called. I watched for 10-12 minutes two outside tables go unused as customers left and tables weren't cleared. New customers came and occupied the chairs because they're too lazy to stand and the hostess wasn't paying enough attention to catch it and have the tables cleaned. When I was finally called up, the hostess tried seating us inside and I had to insist that we wanted an outside table to enjoy the beautiful day. He replied and said the only problem with that table is the umbrella doesn't go up. We took it anyway. I do find it interesting that you know the umbrella doesn't work and continue inconveniencing customers but you won't send someone to nearby Home Depot with $49 to buy a new one. SMDH Just as I was getting up to fix my wife her own coffee our waiter arrived w a pot of coffee and 2 cups. Not until later did my wife tell me the coffee was cold and sucked. For food we shared the works omelette, got a side of bacon, grits and a fruit cup. We waited a fair amount of time for our food to come out. They did bring an extra plate to share the food. The omelette was tasty but cold. The grits looked horrible and tasted even worse. In fact I didn't even know what they were and had to ask the server. Looked like corn meal with water added but not cooked. The fruit cup was quite skimpy. The toast was so cold you could see the butter spread but not melted. The fruit primarily, it seems like they don't sort through the good and bad and instead they just throw whatever is available onto the plate. I've had to stop ordering certain plates that I really loved because the quality has just declined. I don't know if it's the management letting this stuff pass or what but there needs to be some major changes made. This is going to be two visits in one review. Both 5 stars. First 2/10/19 I brought my mom and boyfriend to try First Watch. I used Yelp's waitlist to get on the list. This cut down our wait time in half. We checked in and waited another 30 mins before being seated. This isn't bad for a Sunday around noon. I ordered the bacado omelet but with guyere cheese instead of Monterey Jack. It was so good. I got the potatoes which I love. My mom chose chicken salad melt and broccoli and cheese soup. She doesn't know which is her favorite. Most likely both! My boyfriend got the French toast and a side of scrambled eggs. Everything was great. My only complaint is that it took like 5 minutes, after we received our food, to flag someone down to get syrup. Second 2/17/19 My boyfriend loved the food so much we had to come back a week later. I did the waitlist again on yelp and this time we only waited 5 minutes for our table. I got the ham and guyere omelet with potatoes and gluten free toast. It was all so good, even the toast. My boyfriend had a chocolate chip pancake and French toast. I think the French toast is his favorite. You get huge portions with both. Again everything was great. Tried the Harvest menu pumpkin pancakes which ended up being one huge flat pancake, sort of disappointing. It did have pumpkin flavor but I expected fluffier pancake with more spices in it. I should have stayed with my ricotta pancake with lemon curd that way I would have gotten what I expected. This was my first visit to the South Side location. I fell in love with First Watch in Riverside because of the Yelp event and have gone back several times just for the lemon curd pancake which happened to be more to my liking as far as texture. This was our first visit to this FW location. The vibe inside was great! I was happy to see pumpkin spice creamer on the table and a Pumpkin Pancake Breakfast on the menu. The breakfast came with two eggs, turkey sausage and ended up coming with the potatoes (and of course the pumpkin pancake). The plate came out first and then the pancake to follow a few minutes later (not too terribly long). My only complaint was that the eggs were just about room temp, but not bad enough to bother sending back. My husband got the Farmhouse Skillet (as he does every time). He loved it and finished everything. Our friend got an omelet and grits and enjoyed as well. I used to think highly of First Watch, but my last visit, unfortunately, proved me wrong. I can't complain about their food, it's very good. One thing I like in particular is their potatoes- they're not entirely fried like how other brunch places prepare theirs, so you don't feel too full (or guilty). They're generous with their portions, too. I was a little bothered when both of the yolks of my poached eggs were already running when I was served, and I basically ended up eating egg whites. But overall, my food experience was A-ok. I gave it three stars because the kitchen was not only very slow, but they also forgot four orders on my table. It was clearly a busy day, because I went on Father's Day, but FORGETTING someone's food is simply disappointing. This doesn't mean that I won't visit again- I love it too much. It just means that the kitchen needs some organization. The server was very apologetic, and the four missed meals were taken out of the paycheck. They clearly dealt with our issue correctly. One bad experience can't replace multiple others, so I still highly recommend that you try it. read more

Grabbed breakfast here recently and had a great experience. The restaurant is a cool little spot on the corner of a plaza. It has limited seating inside compared to other First Watch's, and a great outdoor seating area. The food is typical First Watch which is absolutely delicious. Just love their breakfast meats and their poached eggs are always cooked to perfection. Their break potatoes are just incredible, and toast terrific. Great coffee, too which is always a bonus. The staff are extremely efficient, friendly, polite, and upbeat. Plenty of parking up front in plaza lot, and easy in and out access from main roads. Awesome place. read more

Usually we like eating here but we came today at 12:45 and wound up leaving before even getting seated. When we came in we noticed all of the outside tables were empty but not bussed. Inside there was someone paying and after that the person at the counter took three other people that walked up after we did. I asked if there was a separate place to get seated and was told no, hang on. Looking around, there were at least ten tables without people but full of dishes. I just love FIRST WATCH! And I'm very glad that they have opened one up on Southside, which is about 5 minutes away from where I live. THE PLACE: Near Pet Supermarket, near Larry's Giant Subs. It opened up in the new plaza. Corner lot. This location looks very "farm-y" for lack of better terms. Besides the weekdays, there is almost always a wait because... Well, it's First Watch duh! THE FOOD: Breakfast/Brunch/Lunch type food. But like... GOOD food! I've been going to First Watch since it opened here in Jax and I've never been disappointed (except maybe the times we had to wait such a long time and we had to eat somewhere else due to time constraints). I love that they have a seasonal menu on top of the regular menu, it keeps things interesting. I always have some go to favorites, which I will list below: - A.M. Superfoods Bowl: I always end up sharing this with my fiancee, but can totally suffice for one person alone as the main dish. Coconut milk chia seed pudding... YUMM! I believe they make this the night before to allow enough time to form its consistency, but they do it right. Topped with bananas, berries, blackberry preserves and house made granola (adding the much needed crunchy texture). It comes with a side of almond whole grain toast with almond butter. - Skillet Hash, Market: The fact that this dish includes mozzarella and goat cheese... The warmth melts the cheese and is spread on top of potatoes, mushrooms, zucchini, and spinach. On top of that, they add eggs also, I like getting them over-easy on this dish (I typically enjoy scrambled eggs). All of these flavors combined just... It's good. Very good. Comes with a side of whole grain toast with jelly and small thing of fruit. - Tri-fecta: If I'm feeling very basic or if you just enjoy a basic dish, this is a satisfying classic. Eggs your way, pancakes or waffles, and bacon or sausage. Literally, basic. But... gooooood. I think each location has drink specialties too... I think. I recently got an Acai Squeeze at Southside location, which I wouldn't think ginger and acai would go together, but they made it work! I know the Riverside location serves kombucha, which is awesome. THE SERVICE: I haven't personally had an issue but I can see service kind of being an issue for those who have never worked at a restaurant before. Because I always go when it's packed, it can appear... Slow? But, bear with them because it is a very busy and popular restaurant. I'm pretty observant and it's not like the servers are just sitting and hanging out. They're literally buzzin around everywhere! So, kudos to them. TL;DR: If you haven't been here, go. Love first watch! It is actually a chain based out of FL but you wouldn't know walking in. It's very nicely decorated and I love this location. I love the beams and the large chalkboard wall. I always get the chickichanga here and it's their signature dish so you definitely can't go wrong! It's always consistent and delicious. The service is great. You pay at the register, just bring your ticket up front and you're good to go. I went to a yelp event to First Watch last year (not this location) and it was GREAT!! Amazing millionaire's bacon, lemon ricotta pancakes, cinnamon roll waffles, pork belly with grits. I was drooling at the table! Drooling about it at the table at the southside location reminiscing about how awesome that was and what's lacking here and could have been. I hate to leave such a mediocre review after loving a place the first time I went. Different location calls for a different circumstance. With it being so close to Another Broken Egg I can't see myself coming here other than for the fact that we just waltzed right on in, no wait. The staff was great! Service was spectacular! Even the sides were good. But this main of mine... this "biscuits and turkey sausage gravy"... lawhd!! Hot mess! I knew it would taste a little different from the original (turkey sausage) but DAYUM!! Not even drowning it in Cholula helped. Just made it taste like spicy nastiness. How one part of a meal can bring an entire review down I don't know but this dish did exactly that! I would liken it to Pedigree... perhaps Gravy Train... I don't know. You know something that's safe for human consumption but that doesn't mean you should eat it. Not to knock anyone who likes it but you might want to check on your taste buds. Took my daughter here for her birthday breakfast this morning . A great start to her day! She loved it and I did too! The Kale drink is THE BEST! She had the Morning Meditation which included beets, oranges, turmeric and lemon/lime. That was actually good as well but nothing beats the Kale drink. My French Toast was cooked to perfection and the huge cup of coffee topped it off. My granddaughter who can be somewhat picky, ordered the Chocolate Chip pancakes and she loved them! She only needed one because the pancake was a big as her plate! This was my second time eating at First Watch, however, my first time at this location. Our server Mary was great! Very friendly, patient and attentive to our table. It wasn't that crowded so we didn't have to wait. They were able to seat us immediately. The inside was a tad but noisy and with it being such a nice day we asked to be seated outside which they did without any hesitation. The food was good and so was the service. The pricing was fair and they did allow substitution for regular bread for gluten free and also if bread was not desired they would substitute for a side of fruit. Overall it was a nice experience.
