I've been to First Watch before, but this was the first time coming to this one. The atmosphere of the place is great, a bit loud but not like you can't have a conversation with the people you go with. Parking wasn't bad, but expect the possibility of taking some time to get a spot (depending on the time you go). I used Yelp to get on the waitlist, so once we arrived we were seated within a few minutes. We ordered the avocado toast, biscuit & gravy with a side of potatoes. Took a little longer than expected to get our food, but it's understandable given the amount of people there. I loved the food presentation on the plates, for me that's a plus! The food itself was so good I didn't want it to end. Definitely recommend the avocado toast, you get avocado galore! The service was great! Our waitress refilled our drinks fast and checked on us a few times to see how we were doing and was very friendly. Overall, the price for everything wasn't bad. My craving for avocado toast was a bit overwhelming, especially since I tried it for the first time a few days ago, so I'm glad I came back real soon for another dose! Plus I was able to use my $20 gift card from the First Watch Yelp Event! This location was very nice and modern. Very fresh, organized and simple. It was semi busy but we were quickly seated. Our server was a bit all over the place but she was so sweet. She brought us the wrong check but easy mistake right? The food was delicious and the toast curbed my craving. I think it's my new fave! The bacon was a tad soggy but still flavorful. I wish this location had a bar since I was looking forward to the Pomegranate Sunrise! Just had breakfast here. Tried the Million Dollar Bacon: was nice and sweet and peppery, wish it was caramelized though instead of swimming in syrup. Had the Parma Skillet: pretty good, I like my country potatoes crispy on the outside though; the onions and sausage were perfect. Bf had the chorizo omelet, it was simple, light heat. And the biscuits and gravy were good, could've used more seasoning though. Service was nice, everyone seemed really busy. Yay a First Watch closer to me! My mother and I decided to have Sunday brunch here, right during the time people got out of church and right before the Jags game. She thought that we should probably go somewhere else due to knowing beforehand that it would be a madhouse but I assured her that by using the NoWait app we'd be fine. On the app I put us on the waitlist with 11 other parties before us. By the time we got over there and checked-in. They were ready to seat us. Lickity-split. There was a two-seater near the kitchen and that's where they sat us. No problem. By the time we left we were sure that we had the order lingo down-packed hahaha. Our server was great and always come back to check on us and removed our dishes as soon as she saw that we were done, because again, it was a two-seater with a two-seater table. I ordered the Smoked Salmon and Roasted Veggie fritatta with Mixed Greens and a side a bacon. I don't know what's going on with me and bacon but I must always have it with breakfast/brunch. Anyway, because I felt bad about eating a massive omelette the day before I decided to make my fritatta egg whites only which our server said would be no problem. When it came out was half-disappointed and half-relieved by the size of it. I expected it to be larger in circumference but I believe the price is based on the ingredients. And if it was bigger I probably wouldn't be able to eat it all and I don't eat cooked eggs that I've taken in a to-go box. Nevertheless, the entree was very good. My mother couldn't resist not ordering their seasonal pumpkin pancake. I know First Watch's pancakes are huge so I wasn't gonna go there. I really must begin this review with an acknowledgement that the dining room service at this restaurant appeared to be offered by one woman. Very possibly the result of employee absences in the COVID-19 period. Also, shame on me for never having registered props for the consistently high service I have always received at First Watch restaurants, especially my very friendly and service-precise store in Mandarin. Today it was interesting to note, however, the crowds at other nearby restaurants compared to the abnormally low turnout for this First Watch location. The food was great, as usual, but we waited an inordinately long time to be waited on, and my son and I just agreed that we do not recall having been checked on one time. The table next to us went uncleaned for too long (in Mandarin the team is on dirty tables like Rottweilers on a rump roast.) The bathroom was not in the usual pristine condition and the hand sanitizers were placed just in front of the register where you have to muscle through the pay line to get them. (What's the point?) In light of the aforementioned potential COVID related delays, I might not have submitted this review had it not been for the way the experience ended, with my pet peeve -- standing at the register to pay for service for waaaay too long. This is indicative of a management problem in my view. Please let this review be considered as nothing more than data from a big fan of this chain, which normally feels more like a local, healthy mom and pop operation. Not sure why I always have the worst luck with other First Watch locations but this one is very bad. The servers name was Katherine and she really rushed me to order. I told her I wasn't ready and she literally gave me 2 more minutes and asked 3 different times. Food took forever, the server never apologized. When we got our food, we asked for our missing Million Dollar Bacon (which is amazing by the way) and some condiments. The server came back 10 minutes into us eating asking if we got our stuff which we hadn't. The table next to us who had just recently sat down got a plate of bacon just like what we had ordered. We were done eating when the bacon finally came out and we said we didn't want it anymore. We also never got the condiments we asked for. Never got an apology. We were handed our check and we left. I've worked in the restaurant industry for 5 years from hostess to server to bartender so I know when something is not managed properly. I have given this place multiple chances and I just can't take it anymore. Even before the pandemic, I found this place to be disappointing. I have been to multiple locations, and unfortunately for the Southside location, you were my choice for the day. This place is always busy. Always. So I thought to myself, there must be something I am missing here. And after two years of trying to figure out what this place has to offer that keeps it so busy, I finally figured it out. Lack of options. Jacksonville is extremely lacking in decent brunch/breakfast places. And since there are 10 locations in the area, and counting unfortunately, this place is going to remain busy. Lucky for them they don't really have much competition at the moment. But I am very positive that as soon as something decent comes around in this city, people are going to drop this place like a bad habit. There is nothing special about anything on this menu. The "million dollar bacon" get out of here with that name, first of all. Nothing million dollar about it. You soak bacon in syrup till its soggy. Nothing million dollar about that. The best thing this place has going for itself is the drink options. I have been to First Watch a total of 5 times over the last two years, trying to space out my visits hoping that it was just bad timing I was there. Nope. Five times bad. Five times=time wasted. My biggest complaint is actually the service and attitude of the people that work here, not just this location, I mean overall. Once at this location it wasn't bad, but today it was very poor. I was given a gift card, which is the only reason I went for todays visit, otherwise I would have never stepped foot in this place again. And after today's visit, rest assured I won't be back and will decline any offer of a gift card to this place. Better things to spend your money on. My total was $26 and some change, and my gift card was for $25. I walked up to the counter to pay, and the girl ringing me up had no idea how to even work the card machine on her side. After swiping my card multiple times, she calls someone over for assistance. The person she called over told me my card was declined and I needed to call the number on the back to activate it. First of all, there is no where on the card that says it needs to be activated. Its not a visa gift card that has a phone number stickered to the front to call. So I told her, go ahead and call the number on there because I know it has $25 on it. She said to me, we don't call, you have to call. I was already beyond ready to leave, and her making me step aside to call instead of going to get a manager to help out was unacceptable. I call, machine tells me my balance is $25... I go back to the register to tell her what the machine told me. Waiting in line again. (Side note, you need to have more than one register to check people out, if you want people to walk up and pay for themselves, one register is absolutely ridiculous) After waiting for two people's surprisingly fast check outs, she then asks if I have a different form of payment to use instead because she doesn't know how to make it work. Again, the only reason I came here was because I had this gift card. I said while I do have another form of payment, I am not paying fully out of pocket when I have a loaded gift card right here. Finally, the manager comes over and tells me they have been having issues with all gift cards declining, and she comps the other $1 and change for me and told me to have a great day. I said, what about the tip for the server? Listen, I don't care how bad my services is, I always tip 20%. Being a server is one of the most frustrating, underpaid, under appreciated jobs on the planet. I try to bring cash with me when I go out to eat for the tip but today I didn't have any on me. The fact that she didn't ask me if I wanted to tip the server before she closed out my check bothers me. I understand she was trying to fix the situation as quickly as possible for me, which I do appreciate because I was there 15 minutes longer than I needed to be, but as a manager she should have her mind on the servers as well. She was able to open in back up so she could charge a tip to my card. After the attitude I got from the girl attempting to help me second, and giving her manager a look like I was the problem when she was walking over, the manager was very sweet and I really do appreciate her taking care of the issue. I wouldn't recommend First Watch to my worst enemies. They Establishment itself is wonderful. I love the decor, high ceilings, tables booths. Upon recommendation of my friend, Jaymes Oliver-he said try the roast beef and cheese. So I chose the sandwich and the Cobb salad. The Food was pretty good, but the portion of roast beef was minimal. The salad was impressive and tasty. The sweet tea was good, but very weak. I only got one refill, I could of used one more, but the Waitress felt like her job was done, hence why I am taking a star away. First watch on southside blvd is a nice addition to the growing breakfast/brunch market we have here in jax and I believe this is one of multiple locations that they have. I have ordered the bacado (bacon avacado) omelette and also the chile chorizo omelet from first watch. The chile chorizo omelet had a nice filling, but there was not enough chorizo as mine was packed with just onions. It would have been amazing to have it packed with that chorizo. The bacado omelet on the other hand was overall better in every way. Just enough of bacon and avocado in each bite. The omelets came with a side salad and toast which caters to people looking to keep those carbs down, minus the toast of course. Also I had the cold brew coffee that was made with 100% organic coffee beans and it tasted great. The only problem was there were no free refills on that particular beverage which was a little expensive. The interior is nice and open, while the parking can get a little cramped. Nice, clean, and natural seems to be what they are shooting for and I didn't feel bogged down after my meal which is a good thing. read more

I grew up in the south eating grits every morning but these grits were the best I have ever had, I can't believe it. I also ordered the tomato basil soup. It was also very good! Today was our first visit to a First Watch in about 10 years, and we are thrilled to have one close to home and have a new place to get breakfast. I LOVE the decor and atmosphere! We were seated right away - impressive for a Sunday morning, but I know this location just opened and I expect long lines on the weekends soon. The hostess was friendly and our waitress was OK. We saw her to order and get the bill; other staff delivered food and cleared our table. The first thing we looked for on the menu was crepes, and we were surprised to no longer see those on the menu (unless we missed them completely). The menu is good though. I ordered the smoked salmon and roasted vegetable frittata, and it was awesome! My husband ordered the works omelette and loved it. There are lots of yummy options for breakfast, and I'm looking forward to visiting for lunch in the future. Love that we get a carafe of coffee at the table. I put my name on the waitlist for a party of two at 10:44am. We weren't seated until 11:18am. We didn't get our food until, 12:13pm. Our food was cold and I was given a dirty glass (I don't mean a glass with smudges, a legit dirty glass with black stuff caked on it to drink water out of.) The previous day I ordered from this same location via Uber eats. I ordered one trifecta and one traditional breakfast with a side of grits. I was given two traditional breakfast and the grits were watery af. I usually go for the traditional style restaurants when I go out. You know, burgers, fries, steaks, and the like...for breakfast I don't want anything too fancy, just normal breakfast foods. This place has them all, with a millennial twist. You can get french toast, eggs, toast, biscuits and gravy...but it's going to be brioche french toast, cage free eggs, multigrain toast, and that gravy is going to be turkey. I don't remember everything on the menu, but I do remember that it all had a sort-of hippy bent to it. That's not a bad thing in this case. I ordered the french toast (regular, not "Florida" which has wheat germ on it...weird), with a small plate of biscuit and gravy. The french toast was two large slices of moderately thick brioche lightly egged and cooked, then topped with a sprinkle of powdered sugar and a single ball of whipped butter (they should add a second). There was syrup on the table, which I added. The biscuit (not biscuits) and gravy was interesting. It was a largish biscuit, cut in half with the cut sides lightly toasted. The gravy was a turkey gravy, which I didn't realize until the check came and it stated it. The biscuit was good, but nothing special. The brown gravy was a pretty decent portion, and was seasoned nicely, with a finely ground meat. (not a white sausage gravy). My friend had the traditional breakfast, which came with 2 slices of bacon that were about a foot long each, two over easy eggs, a very generous portion of breakfast potatoes and a Texas size thick slice of 5 (or 7?) grain toast. He said he enjoyed everything except the potatoes. I stole some, and thought they were good...I guess I'm just not that picky, or he's overly so. They seemed to be cooked right, were cubed the size of potato salad cubes, cooked moderately crispy and seasoned in a pleasant way. All-in-all, it was a pleasant breakfast and I'd go back again. The only reasons it didn't get 5 stars is because I didn't like 90% of the stuff on the menu. The only real choice for me was what I got and what my friend got with maybe 4 other options if they were altered a bit. I like a place that has so many good looking choices I want to try they pretty much force me to come back to get them all....and partially because of the prices, even though I get it that hippy food costs more than regular heathen food. read more

I have tried this First Watch location three times now and have been unimpressed every time. They use the nowait app which is a great feature, though. While the place is clean and the decor is pretty cute, the service is sub par and the food is just okay. I tried to order black iced coffee three times before actually getting a glass (they brought hot coffee and a premade presweetened with cream iced coffee before informing me I needed to order black cold brew). We were not checked on after we got our food and never got an opportunity to ask for water (which comes with the table, they forgot which is fine but we were not able to flag someone down to ask for it) and we switched between 3 waitresses the whole time. If you arrive after 9-10am on the weekend there will be a wait and things will probably be a little crazy. Food is fantastic and worth any wait there might be to get it. I mean I get that 30 minutes for breakfast might seem like a long time but you aren't exactly at Denny's or IHOP. I love that they have HOT coffee for you while you wait. I wanted to love it. So many people have recommended them before. We ordered takeout due to COVID. I got the Farmhouse Hash. It looks beautiful on the picture and I added a pancake. They said 25 minutes we were there in 15. When I got back to the car and looked at my food the cheese was already cold and the avocados were brown. I didn't want to take it back because I was starving since I had just finished running. I thought I would just pop it in the microwave. Still no bueno. This place!! Never again!! Went there while I was apartment hunting. I virtually got in line which I was quick to realize wasn't necessary because there was NOBODY waiting...and now I know why. First thing, I asked for coffee with cream and sweetener. After an extended period of time, they bring me the coffee with a little dish with some sort of Stevia and Sugar in the raw. I asked for some Splenda because I cannot tolerate stevia and was told they no longer have it, that the stevia is all they have...no Equal, Splenda, Sweet n Low. I've been two other locations several times each and have never had a bad experience. I guess my luck ran out yesterday. We arrived just before noon, easily found parking, walked right in and were seated immediately. So far so good. However this is where the story takes a turn. Ten minutes later no server, no water. The server finally comes by and asks if we want coffee, we decline and ask for water. Our sever then disappears for almost another ten minutes when she comes back to take our food order and we begin ordering our food by saying, "We'd like water and..." We finally got water. Twenty minutes later. The kitchen took longer than expected to get our food out to us. Almost another twenty minutes. As far as the quality of the food it was fine. The Pesto Chicken Quinoa Bowl was good and the Superfood Kale Salad was fine except for the salad being drenched in dressing and the lack of almonds. I've been to other First Watch locations and normally the service is spot on and food is perfect. So, I was really disappointed in the experience yesterday. I'm not sure if they were short handed (no one said so) or the staff was still new and in-training (again no one said anything), but it definitely will cause me drive a little further out for what I know is a superior experience. read more
