I visited this place a few months ago with my mom and a couple of friends. The restaurant itself is nice but lacks a good waiting area and places to sit when having to wait for a table. (Wait times are overly long it seems) when we finally got a table and ordered, half our table was served and the other half seemed to have to wait an unneeded longer time for our food. And even after we got our food I felt like I was underwhelmed by it for the the price. There's potential for this restaurant but I and my mom personally won't be going back. read more

My daughter was home from college this weekend and brought 3 roommates with her so we had planned going to brunch on Sunday with my mom before they headed back to college. I had visited the Waverley location twice already with my daughter and were so impressed so needless to say she was so excited to show off this restaurant to her roomies! We are closer to the Matthews location so naturally we chose this one. I will NEVER step back into this location. The food was good but customer service was horrible! I could go on and on but I'm not going to waste my time so here is just a few issues... our waitress didn't bring water until half way through the meal had to ask twice.. left alot of dirty dishes on table and two empty coffee pots! My daughter and mom ordered eggs Benedict and a girl not our waitress cane over and explained they were out of ciabatta so could we sub English muffin? Says sure.. we'll then they bring all of the rest if the food and not the two eggs Benedict's? We wait and wait.. then our waitress cones over and repeats the thing about the bread? I was like wait the food is not ready?? So there meals comes out after we are all done! There's no real manAger.. a "manager "came over.. rude as could be and didn't offer to comp anything of even apologize as we were also waiting on a to go order that took forever!!! Went this morning for the first time. Honestly I am still in disbelief how great it was! The place is cute and wasn't busy while we were there. Felt safe seeing all staff with masks and gloves. My husband and I were traveling from out of town and stopped at the first watch restaurant in Matthews NC around 10:30 am. It wasn't rush hour or anything, but we sat at our table in the middle of the restaurant for 30 minutes, and not once did anyone stop to take our order or even ask us if we wanted something to drink. We watched a table of 7, three tables of 2, and two outdoor tables who came in after us get served. When we left I asked to speak to the manager and told him why we were leaving to go somewhere else and eat. He acted like he could care less. We'll never eat there again, and we'll make sure to tell everyone we know about their lousy service as well. read more

This was my first visit to First Watch and it was good. I will say don't order the poached eggs as they obviously don't have a egg poaching device or know how to make them. My poached eggs came out in a ramekin and basically looked like half heated raw eggs. So, get eggs any other way but I was too hungry to complain or bother. I just ate them...the waffle was excellent, the bacon was good not great. I never leave reviews but felt required to do so based on the experience we had. The wait was 50 minutes from the time we sat down and got food. We ordered right when we sat down and got water bc we had time to look the menu over waiting for a table. I asked to start with bacon.. after waiting for approximately 20 minutes we asked if the bacon was still coming out. Once we got our food we inquired again about the bacon. She came back to state that the kitchen lost our ticket but it will come out shortly. We finished our food so we canceled the bacon. Wow. What a restaurant. I LOVE this place. It was my first time in Charlotte and when I saw that there was a First Watch, I knew that was were my friend and I would be having our brunch. I'm from Knoxville and love the first watch there so I knew I would be pleased with my meal. When we were ready to get our check, the owner approached us and started talking to us. What a lovely man!! He was so kind and interested in making sure we loved our meal. It came up in conversation that my friend was in the marines.. the owner took it upon himself to pay for our entire meal. My eyes immediately started to tear up. First time trying this place out, always looks like a really long wait. Come to find, there's a wait because the service is terrible. We were told 20 min wait for a table, but an hour later we got cold food. Waitress took 20 minutes to get drinks, then disappeared during the 40+ minutes we waited for food. Food was okay, but cold. When we complained, no remedy was offered. In fact, we asked for the manager and the waitress would not send him over. For a place that serves $9+ per breakfast, I'd expect at least okay service. Long story short: Great food from a diverse menu. Service was not quite up to par. Willing to give them a second chance. I've been driving by this place for a long time now. My family and I finally stopped in this morning. It was busy, but the wait wasn't too bad. (It was 20-30 minutes from when we arrived. Nice to see a place so busy.) We got to our table a bit premature; it hadn't been completely cleaned up before we sat down. It took a really long time before we were even acknowledged by a member of the waitstaff. I also work in the food service industry, so I understand what it's like to be busy, but I feel like a simple, "I'll be right with you," isn't too much to ask for. Neither server who helped us introduced themselves. My mother's food was brought out significantly later than all the other food. There was no acknowledgement from the server who brought out the food that my mom's food would be coming shortly. It felt like her food had just been forgotten. The food, once it all finally arrived, was very good. I ate their hacienda hash and absolutely loved it. Hardy and fresh. My entire family enjoyed the food. Was it the best first impression? We've have enjoyed brunch at First Watch multiple times, today was quite a deviation from the norm. Waited almost 40 minutes for our entrees from the time they were ordered. Eggs Benedict had eggs that were cooked through and through, dish was cold. Skillet dish was cold when served and the cheese was congealed. Our waiter advised the kitchen was running behind, but it seems that our dishes were sitting under the warmer for quite some time. Our waiter was good and apologetic, offered to bring out two new poached eggs. When they arrived we basically received a bowl with hollandaise and uncooked eggs.....disgusting. Again our waiter was apologetic and refunded the eggs Benedict, but no manager came by to check in on the situationIf you can't prepare eggs you shouldn't be making breakfast. We have been twice within the first weeks of opening. We went on weekday mornings so there was no wait. The service was fantastic and our food was delicious. Love the healthy options (the veg omelette was great with roasted veggies, fresh herbs and goat cheese; the bread/toast was phenomenal; great fried potatoes; eggs benedict florentine on ciabatta, avocado toast, all great)! Love the pot of fresh coffee left on the table so you don't have to wait for a refill! It's nice to finally have a quality option in the Matthews area. Very pleasant wait staff. A little scattered but busy morning. Coffee good. A little overboard with the "free range, all natural, multi-grain" options if you are looking for traditional breakfast options but that is perhaps a personal preference. Thought perhaps my fault for not viewing the menu more closely, disappointed that a salad is the side with a traditional breakfast omelet with potatoes "upon request ". Has salad really become a preferred breakfast option? I think they should bring this to the patron's attention upon ordering as I have to think the majority still would view potatoes as a preferred breakfast side. Overall not bad experience. The wait was a little long but that is to be expected on a Saturday morning around 11. On the bright side, the food and herbal tea was worth the wait! I enjoyed the hacienda hash and blackberry herbal tea. The food was hot and full of flavors, I substituted the chorizo for the Cajun chicken and I would do it all over again. The one thing I wouldn't change was my decision on the blackberry herbal tea and the thing I would change would be the temperature in the restaurant and the waiting area seating. I was a little cold and had my jacket on the whole time. I know the servers appreciated it as they were running around serving all of the guests non-stop and there were a lot of people standing while waiting to be seated as there were only a few places to sit inside and wait. 5/5 stars from me. The salads are so small compared to when the first opened. The service is slower and I believe management changed. Today 20 minutes after I was informed my table was ready we were seated, only to wait another 16 mins for drinks, then a total of 50 mins to get our food. They ran out of bacon. The last visit they ran out of grits. A time before that they got our order entirely wrong. I made the mistake of continuing to go back hoping it would get better but it has not. AMAZING!!! My husband and I had to try this place out as soon as we heard about it. When we arrived, there was already a waitlist, but we took that as an excellent sign because it was around 11 in the morning on a weekday and the breakfast crowd would have already been there. The million dollar bacon- OMG!! It is to DIE for! My husband keeps talking about it so it has made the list of "give me the usual" items. I ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes and let me tell ya, delish!!! Hubs ordered the French toast and he devoured it with delight. The coffee is so, so good and they bring it to you in a carafe so you can help yourself with top offs. Our server was very friendly and made us feel quite welcomed. The food is actually really good, and the concept of this place is great, but the execution is poor. The waitlist goes through an app, which tells you to "arrive" by a certain time, and then you still have to wait 20-30 minutes after your arrival time to be seated. Quote times are too vague, I called in and asked for the wait, was told a time that was 25 minutes different than what the app was showing- and the host stated she didn't really know which one was correct. When we arrived at the time this magical app told us to, we were told there were still 15 parties ahead of us, and we had waited 40 of our 45 minute quote time at this point. The host said we shouldn't arrive when the app tells us to because that's only in cases where "everything runs smoothly and we have no mess ups" After waiting another ten, no change in our position in line so we decided to sit outside because it was first come first serve and a table opened up. The server Khaleeda was very nice and efficient and the food was actually good but the app and host were such a headache that we will not be back. Host need to be educated about wait times- and also quote times shouldn't be 15 minutes apart (I.e 45-60 minutes??). read more

I had wanted to try First Watch after friends in other states recommended it. We went on a Thursday around 10:15 and didn't have to wait. The inside isn't very big but has a nice farmhouse feel to it. We really enjoyed our food- the chickichanga was a unique and flavorful burrito with a tasty sauce. The ingredients were all very fresh and I really liked how the side of fruit was actually fresh, seasonal fruit and not a bland or frozen mix. My mom had the biscuits and gravy which was also very tasty and well seasoned. Our favorite was the Million Dollar Bacon. We ordered it in addition to our meals and it's the best bacon we've ever had- almost like a dessert with the caramelized brown sugar and maple syrup on it. We'll be back to try some lunch items! Update- went back again today and still loving this place. Had the plain pancakes and they were really tasty. Served with warm maple syrup-yum! Then we asked for a couple more minutes to look over the menu and those couple minutes turned into 10. Saw another table get seated as well and they were served right away by our server.
