Generally really like this place! A go to for when you want I-Hop but feel like it's probably better to have some avocado than hash browns. How can you mess up breakfast!! I was a faithful egg and I customer and was surprised to find they had sold out to First Watch. We went with high expectations and was SORELY disappointed. My wife ordered her usual, eggs Benedict and was presented with two eggs , ciabatta bread base and a hollandaise sauce better left in the can. And then to top it off....A mountain of micro greens. I am not exaggerating. You could not see the eggs underneath! If you go to HEB and buy a bagged salad and poured it on top you would have a pretty good representation of what we saw. I ordered my standard pancake but alas it was no better. The pancake was crumbling.....yes I said crumbling like it was made with corn meal and was SOOOO dry I had to ask for water. However the true test was my boys both 8 & 9. They ordered chocolate chip pancakes and ate only half of it. That has never happened before! Ever. First time First Watchers and so far we are having a great time. Server greeted us in a timely manner and she was very nice and offered us seasonal juices. They have dairy and nondairy creamers readily available for the coffee, which is pretty good. Food came out very quickly and was so good. We got the lemon ricotta pancakes and the market skillet hash and both were delicious. Pancakes were huge and the hash portion was perfect, it came with toast and a small side of fruit which was fresh. Overall we had a great experience and I would love to come back to try new things!! We just left the place due to waiting for our food that never came after 40 min. Checked it at 10:26 and just opted to sit outside since indoor wait to be seated was about 20-30 min to be seated indoors. Ordered at 10:35 and waited patiently, the couple who got seated a min before us got their food, then 2 guys who got there bout 10 min got their drink quick and also got their food in no time .. not 40 min like us, all we tried to order was a traditional breakfast, a trifecta, an omelette and grilled cheese.. really? I Asked the server and he said kitchen is running behind because busy.. righttttt..... but those 2 guys got their food right away, Anyways, food is not all that good anyway. This review I purely based off experience with the customer service. My wife and I went in for the first time into this establishment and we got seated by I believe was the manager. He said our server would be with us shortly. Well shortly never came. We sat down and waited for a little over 10 min and watched countless servers walk past us with our saying a word to us. We've never felt so judged in our lives, like if we didn't belong in this place. No one said anything to us didn't offer us water or even say sorry we are a bit busy not a thing. First Watch is a decent breakfast and a majority of their selection is good (not great though) food. My biggest issue is with their scrambled eggs. I asked for soft scrambled and got eggs they threw on the griddle, let them sit for a minute and then they mixed them together. I can tell by the chunks of egg whites and well done yolk I found. If you can't/won't/don't do soft scrambled, just say so. Don't bring me the kind of scrambled eggs I made when I was 10 and didn't want to wash another bowl. Came on a Saturday morning, a bit worrisome about how busy the restaurant would be, but the service was great! Our waiter was super attentive and came to refill our drinks multiple times and checked up on us. As for food it was overall a pretty pleasant experience. The rainbow roast was delicious-the fruit was fresh, the syrup was perfectly drizzled, overall a great appetizer. My friends and I each ordered two stacks of the multigrain pancakes. I got the banana nut pancake and the carrot cake, the banana nut is THE GO TO! The bananas add a great flavor to the generally less flavorless pancake itself (not a bad thing though). The carrot cake pancake isn't really carrot cake batter, but more the pancake with carrot shreds, but it was pretty delicious. A bit bland/flavorless by itself, but with syrup, I think it was a pretty good combination. My friend ordered the chocolate chip pancakes and unfortunately one of hers was a bit burnt. The only reason I'm even giving 2 stars is because of the waitress. So my fiancé and I go to the Austin location all the time. Our experience there has never been anything short of outstanding. So when I noticed that we had one near our hotel in San Antonio, I insisted we have breakfast here on our last day. He ordered an omelette with salmon, I ordered avocado toast with poached eggs. His meal and my toast came out before my eggs did. When my eggs did finally come out, it was literally two completely raw eggs in a bowl. I've made poached eggs before, I've had poached eggs in restaurants before. Hell I've had poached eggs at Denny's before. They don't ever look like that. That looked like salmonella. So the waitress comes back, I tell her my issue with the eggs, and she says she'll have someone remake them. I ask for sunny side up this time, thinking it may be a little easier to make than poached. My eggs come out a second time, and once again, the center is completely raw. Please bear in mind that I LOVE a runny yolk, but this was RAW, and liquid egg white was still floating around the center. I just pushed the plate aside, and proceeded to eat my avocado toast, which was actually pretty good. My fiancé started in on his omelette finally, and discovered that it was just a plain vegetable omelette. No salmon. The waitress came back, and she herself pointed out that there was an issue with the eggs again, and offered to remake them yet again. I was pretty over it at this point. I told her my toast was pretty good and I was just going to enjoy that, but I appreciated her noticing. She said she'd see if she could at the very least discount my meal, which I appreciated. My fiancé didn't say anything about his omelette. She brought us the check, and she'd take $3 off of my $10 meal. I work in customer service. I would've comped the whole thing, but I do appreciate what she did. Her name was Brooke. She did a great job. My issue is with the cook, and with the management of the restaurant. How do you employ someone as a cook at a breakfast restaurant who can't even make sunny side up eggs?! read more
