I couldn't wait to try this place for their avocado toast. I ordered that but with scrambled eggs and cheese. I also ordered a waffle that was on special that had cream cheese and powered sugar. My husband got a plain waffle, eggs and bacon. I also ordered a cider. Everything was delicious. Our server was nice but after we received our food it was a long time before we saw her again. We waited for quite some time before she checked on us again and we asked for our check. Overall the food was good and we'll be back. read more

My wife and I have tried very hard to like this place, we've eaten here at least a dozen times since it opened and haven't had a great experience (but have had several poor ones). This location has long wait times (with lots of empty tables) and wait staff that is slow and disinterested. The food is decent, but that isn't enough to keep me as a customer. Do not go to this location. The employees are rude and it doesn't appear to be managed well. Also extremely packed with people standing shoulder to shoulder in waiting area and no one social distancing or employees ensuring safety standards. I had a party of 5 and had to wait 45 minutes to be seated, while they proceeded to seat other parties before us, up until we went up to them and they seated us at a 4-top with an extra chair on the end (something they could've done long before that). Our waitress didn't have any knowledge of the daily specials that they had to offer and took a good deal of time to even take our drink order. Waited about 25 mins before my husband's food arrived. 10 mins later, I'm asked what else did I order by a different waiter that was kind enough to notice we still didn't have all our food. After about 5 more mins, I finally requested to speak to a manager. His response was "your food was taken to another table." He then said- " we are still working on your order". I obviously had no choice but to get up and leave. He did comp my husband's meal however, first time at this place results in me never returning. I'm giving a 1 star review because literally the bare minimum was achieved here. I come regularly every now and then, however this was the worst experience and made me want to never come back. We ordered drinks and got them before getting any water and after not getting any at all we had to ask for water and water cups. Then we ordered food and when it finally came to the table it wasn't hot. I didn't want to complain but then I asked of my eggs over easy and got them cooked ALL THE WAY THROUGH and cold??? The food just looked very sad and unpresentable. I could have and should have done it myself at home because it would've come out better. The server never came to check on the table. We had both finished eating by the time the server came by. Then he was like oops sorry I never came to check on y'all. Like ??? Then he was like so how was everything and I only complained about my eggs. I showed him the eggs and said look these aren't over easy I asked for over easy. I even slapped my eggs with a fork to show him how hard they were. What a joke. He said ohh can I get you some new eggs?? Seeing that we were both done with our food and had not even water left on the table. I said no I didn't want new eggs bc it would take too long and we were already done with our food so it would be pointless and then he said fine and he would run and get the check. The check came and there were no attempts at fixing the check to make the terrible service right. I work in the service industry. I understand that he doesn't make the food but he also never checked on us and we were RIGHT next to the kitchen. Unacceptable. I went to pay upfront and she asked how everything was and I told her "to be honest not great. It was ok at best" she didn't care either and said well I appreciate your honesty and here's your total. This use to be my wife and my favorite place. Sat down at 9:08, finally saw our first waiter at 9:17. Food arrived at 9:45. My wife ordered the granola bowl. My family and I would come to this location at least 2 times a week for breakfast, at first the food and the service was great. It wasn't until we started going around after 10am that we noticed the service and quality of the food changed. We would have to request our toddlers scrambled eggs to be cooked just a little longer because they would just be so undercooked. The reason I'm writing this review is because of the experience I had today. I waited over an hour to be seated even with checking in online. Once my toddler and I where seated we weren't helped or acknowledged but a group that came in shortly after us were seated and helped right way. I'm not sure if they thought someone else would be joining, but I decided to just leave because I didn't want to have my child wait another 30-45 minutes for his meal. Thats not the only negative experience Iv had at this location either. Having been a server I understand the pressure of serving and I can't even imagine the added stress of a pandemic. But I shouldn't have to hear a waitress 2 tables down talk about how messy a child was being as I have a toddler myself that I clean after because I know the feeling. I understand we are all human and need to vent but do that on your own time or in break room. Iv also heard a host taking about how she had gotten a dwi sometime that week as I was paying for my meal. Food was good but the service was hit and miss. I had pancakes and asked the person who brought the food for syrup. Well she never came back and when we asked our waiter he took a while to bring the syrup. I also never had my drink refilled. At a restaurant with a price point like this I expect better service. Our experience was ok, I do kind of miss the old Egg and I but will come back on a weekday when it isn't so busy. I really enjoyed the "healthy" option menu and look forward to trying the oatmeal or granola (both of which looked delicious). The only reason First Watch doesn't have 5 starts is the dirty cups. I hate to give this one 2 stars because it's one of my favorite First Watches in San Antonio. HOWEVER, the reason for this review is because the ridiculous cold temperature they set their A/C to. This place is always FREEZING inside. Thats saying something because I am a big guy and I love A/C but this place is WAY over the top. My teeth are chattering by the time I finish my food. And speaking of food, it gets cold very quickly from the time it is placed in front of you - especially eggs. Unfortunately this has been going on since almost when they opened this place up. I've told them about it but they just ignore me. I've just reached my limit to where I have write a review. It does not need to be this cold in here. FIX THE A/C First Watch. This place is honestly the worst. The food is terrible the "service" if you can even call it that is a joke. It's really one of the only breakfast places that are in the area so you go there thinking this time it will be better but nope it never is. You wait for a table even when it's not busy. I took my youngest to this establishment around 10:15 on a Saturday. This is probably the best time or earlier to dine at this location because we've been before and the wait was up to an hour or more. We love that we got to sit right down. I ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes and millionaire bacon. The pancakes were delicious, but I could've passed on the bacon. It was nothing special. My son had the traditional breakfast and he thought it was pretty good. For a picky teen who doesn't usually like breakfast, he ate all of it! Mom has been frequenting this place for years and now I see why. Innovative menu, great bang for the buck, and a staff that goes above & beyond. Mom might be a regular, but they look after her like one of the family and that's from the heart. The Elevated Egg Sandwich really rises to the occasion! Had to go back and get it again and it was just as great on round two. Wish COVID didn't keep mom from dining in. Used the online app and pick-up was a breeze. Joe was working the door and I offered a tip, he declined because he couldn't know who completed the online order - honest, hardworking, and sincere. Well, we started with a 30 min wait, that in and of itself was fine, it was busy. We were finally seated and our server brought out water and coffee, the water bottle had spots on it. She took our order and turned it in. About 10-15 mins later our food arrived, my wife and kids were all served their meals and the server informed me that my meal would be out in "a min". (Famous last words) after about 5 mins she informed me that it would be right out, about 5 mins after that I asked for a manager as my family by this time was just about done eating. Our sever then came over and let me know that they had messed up my poached eggs and needed to remake them, and that the manager would be out shortly, maybe? About 5 mins after that my meal finally arrived. Potato's were warm at best the hollandaise was on the bread and bacon only, not on the eggs at all and it was watery and lacking any flavor other than lemon. (Let me know if you need a good recipe for hollandaise sauce). All in all the meal was ok, my family did like their food. I never did see the manager he was cooking I was told. They did comp our meal, but I don't think we will be returning as lack of attention on managements part was not ok. read more
