I've always appreciated First Watch for its focus on fresh, quality ingredients, but my recent experience has made me question that commitment. I ordered the avocado toast with egg whites, expecting the vibrant, fresh flavors the brand is known for. What I got was disappointing. The first plate had avocado with obvious brown spots mixed in, making it look far from fresh. I sent it back, and the second plate came out looking greener, but as soon as I took a bite, it was sour and tasted off. When I removed the avocado from the toast, the underside was completely brown. I brought this to the manager's attention, and his response honestly left me speechless. He explained that the avocado they use for the toast comes pre-packed in large bags, while the avocado they use for other dishes is freshly sliced. This makes no sense--why not use fresh avocado across the board, especially for a dish that literally puts avocado in the name? read more

I got the pancakes and it was great and fluffy, the fruit and lemon filling was perfectly balanced I didn't even use any syrup on the pancakes. The mimosas were ok nothing out of the ordinary. I did try the limited pineapple drink. It was good but nothing too amazing. It could have been a bit sweeter and that would have made it better for me. Everything my wife daughter and I had were good. The staff was very friendly and polite. Our waitress Caroline was a true delight. She's also a teacher so she was great with our daughter. I would recommend the pumpkin donuts, the Belgium waffle, the biscuits and gravy and the eggs. Those were the dishes we hand and it was so good I didn't even get to take a picture of most of it. As usual, the food was really good, the service was also very good. But... I recognize I'm an old foggie; I've also lost hearing in one ear, so a noisy environment makes me uncomfortable. Today I was uncomfortable in this restaurant. I put in ear plugs. First in my left ear, as my right ear is where I lost hearing so moderately loud music won't bother me too much. After a while, I added an ear plug for my right ear as well. But it was still very loud, so I downloaded a decibel meter app. The result? the minimum was 61dB, the max was 89dB, and the average for our visit was 78dB. A quick Google search revealed that "The ideal sound level for normal conversations is between 58 - 65 dB. The loudest your restaurant should be is 85 dB." I also learned that loud music can create a sense of urgency that makes us speed through our meals. Long, leisurely meals don't help a restaurant's bottom line; they need the tables to turn over quickly (via US Foods). "So playing speed metal at a high volume will move customers through at a brisk pace." I don't like to rush (or be rushed) through my meal. I should know better; if the music is loud when I walk in the door, I should ask for the quietest table and check the noise, or maybe I should turn around and go somewhere else. read more

Went for a brunch date on a Monday morning after mom duties. The restaurant was already hoppin' at 11 am. There was a line by the door. Which I think is usual for this place as I've picked up breakfast on the go before. My friends were already seated and ordered so I had to chose quick. I had to be at work soon, so I only had one hour to order and eat. I ordered a BLT Sammie and a tomato soup. The Sammie was huge! Fully loaded with thick cut bacon, spinach, arugula and a fried egg! Yum! It was definitely worth the wait. The food did take awhile, or maybe it was me being pressed for time and famished. I was in good company so the time flew by. I would definitely not come and eat here if you need to eat and run. But I would definitely come back and try other dishes. My friends ordered some amazing looking dishes as well! I think the downer is that there always seems to be wait list and the seating can definitely feel tight if you are in a party of 4 or more. The eggs were a perfect sunny side egg/ runny yolk which is what we asked for. A lot of places over cook, so I was happy to see this place didnt. Cons: food wasn't ready at the time specified, our order was wrong, all of the food was ice cold and our Hacienda Hash looked like someone had eaten from the container. The millionaire bacon also wasn't anything special. We were missing items from the hash bowl, as well as an order of potatoes. With that being said, I think the food tastes good. They should have just called them breakfast nachos. I literally had nachos for breakfast. I hated them so much I could not finish them. My girlfriend & I usually come to eat at this location - it's always great. This visit, we stopped by & got seated as usual. Our server (Laraib was the name listed on our receipt) didn't bother to introduce herself & immediately just brought coffee we hadn't asked or wanted. My girlfriend had asked for some water - never received it. Since we were already getting charged for coffee, I poured some of course but there wasn't enough creamer for the both of us so we asked for some more. I saw her just chit chatting with another server instead of bringing them so we got it ourselves from another empty table. I got the avocado toast - always great food no doubt - with a side of lemons (plural, more than 1) & it just came with 1. We politely asked for more & still nothing so we asked a different server & all of sudden, our original server came back with lemons after she told her again. After all of that, she came back with the creamers at the end of our meal when we weren't drinking coffee anymore. We work in the food industry so we understand how busy it can get & how easy it is to forget things but everything kept getting worse instead of better. It's our second time to have a brunch here last Saturday the 18th of September. This time we brought our niece for her birthday, she visited San Antonio from Abilene, where she's based as an Air Force woman. I love the food here, they really tastes good and freshly made and love to have my niece and her girlfriend try it out for the first time. Waiting is part of the experience since there's always a lot of diners coming and going. I was told there's a one to one and a half hour wait but good thing it only took a good 44 minutes for us a party of four to be seated. Our very warm, welcoming and attentive waitress Nikki greeted us and she's been patient with us. My frittata rustics, my cousin's eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and our other guest's Biscuits & Turkey Sausage Gravy with Eggs are all good. My niece's eggs Benedict looks good too but the person who served her the plate accidentally dropped one of the poached eggs on the table. It literally slid out of the plate to the table top. They apologized and we were told they will bring her another poached egg. When Nikki arrived she asked if my niece wants to have a fresh plate to replace her whole order but worried it might take long, she just decided to have them bring just the eggs with the hollandaise sauce. When my niece started to work on the egg that's left on top of her English muffin, it was not cooked right. The supposedly poached egg was over cooked, the yolk is hard and looks like hard boiled rather than runny. Now for a breakfast and brunch place, we expect they make eggs perfect the way it should be cooked or the way customers want it but no it's not. After a few minutes, a server came with two supposedly poached eggs with the hollandaise sauce, unfortunately they missed it again. It's another pair of overcooked (not runny at all) eggs. We get the attention of Nikki and she apologized again told us they are taking care of it right now in the kitchen, Nikki actually offered if we want to talk to the manager. But of course we did not refuse, imagine, for an expensive breakfast place, they should be making perfect eggs the least. I felt so bad for my niece, it's her birthday and she's in the military service, she don't deserve this! Michael the manager came over sooner than expected and apologized and said he wants to do it right. He offered my niece a breakfast drink and also asked her what else she wants. she asked for another bowl of fresh fruit. Shortly after Michael left our table another pair of poached eggs arrived, but again it's not, it's another over cooked pair of eggs. We called Michael up again and my niece showed her ID cards, her driver's license and military ID just so they know it's really her birthday. After a few minutes Nikki brought another pair of eggs with more apologies from her. This time it's not over cooked, but it's not poached either, it's over easy. My niece just gave up and decided to eat. After eight not perfectly cooked eggs and oh, my niece didn't even finished the million dollar bacon she ordered on the side. The description on the menu shows "Four slices of our signature hardwood smoked bacon baked with brown sugar, black pepper, cayenne and a maple syrup drizzle." There's no hint of a million dollar there by just looking at it, no syrup no hint of brown sugar, it's dry and not even crunchy. The eggs distracted my niece only to find out the bacon is not a Million Dollar after all. With these unfortunate situations for my niece, Nikki told us they took off my niece's order from the tab and Michael handed her a grab and go brownie too. Michael and Nikki did their best to express their apologies and we appreciate it so much. However, we're not sure if the regular egg person for that Saturday morning is having a hard day, or maybe it's a substitute egg person, we don't know but the egg person needs to be reprimanded or corrected. We're pretty sure we're not the only people who had an issue with the poached eggs. I want to give more stars but I feel really bad for my niece, we treated her for a birthday brunch but her experience is not good. Michael and Nikki's efforts are much appreciated but that Saturday is for my niece, and it was still a failure. We would still try to come back in the future maybe without my niece, perhaps Michael and his team of first watchers could redeem themselves. I will not dare bringing my aunt and uncle along next time, I don't want them to experience any issues like this at all. read more

The children's menu had very good options for them to choose from, the oatmeal dish was loaded with fresh fruit and my kid loved it. Our server was very courteous and helpful in explaining the menu and offering suggestions. The eclectic vibe is pretty cool to look at, my kids kept pointing out the picket fence painted with the Texas flag. I ordered the "Bacado" omelette and was generously portioned. The granola and banana pancake was really big and tasty treat and I also liked the fact that the servers bring out warm syrup to the table.
