I stopped in here for lunch while driving between Bangor and Portlan. I found the place using YELPs app. It was nearly empty on a Tuesday afternoon at 1 pm which was suprising. I was seated immediately, and had a great server. She made several suggestions and I chose the Shrimp Scampi dish and it was a nice sized portion and was very tasty. The shrimp were on a bed of spatlze in a tomato based broth with shaved parm on top. There was also hearty bread served along with it to sop up the broth, but I was way too stuffed to even finish the dumplings let alone sop up the broth. I thought it was reasonably priced, good value for fresh food. I woud definetly come back here if I am ever in the area again. read more

For Lewiston, this is a 4-star restaurant. I came here for the first time in May and enjoyed the initial experience. I'm a sucker for renovations, and since the location was previously a mill I can appreciate the owner's decision to "recycle" old space and turn it into something beautiful. I ordered something small for brunch and because I was so thrilled to see qunioa salad on the menu (something not typical in this area) I decided to go for it. My mother ordered the atlantic salmon and I ended up taking bites from her's as well. When the dishes came to our table they were beautifully presented, but I was pretty disappointed with my flavor of my dish. There are several ways to make quinoa delicious, however this was bland. The salmon was pretty good, but not anything over the top. Overall, Fishbones is a wonderful local business in the area that offers a higher-end dining experience to Lewiston/Auburn. read more

This place is adorable. Very simple bar area with reception seats and couches. Imagine when there's things going on in town he must be quite a place to be. We called ahead just at 9 o'clock and they said no problem we can still come in and get food. How many places want to do that on the Thursday night. I ordered the cod slightly blackened where they light bur blanc sauce some potato croquettes and green beans everything on the plate tasted so good and I'm a pretty picky girl. The chowder was delicious and definitely homemade and we also had a salad of Brussels sprouts with a falafel. I felt I could have a little more dressing and seasoning and the brussel sprouts could have been a little thinner but perhaps at after 9 o'clock he was in a rush and well you just can't be too demanding. We will definitely come back the next time we're passing through Auburn Lewiston. Good to know they're there but it was slightly difficult to find GPS brings you to the street prior and says you've reached your destination but yet you have to go halfway around the block to get to the building entrance. Never disappointed by Fishbones. The old mill setting and spacious interior is relaxing. Service is pleasant and quick as you like. We often start with the calamari. Fish specials are presented and prepared well. As with most restaurants the default for the fish is cooked a bit more than I would like but they will adjust to taste. Chowder is another staple. read more

Visiting from New York City and found some of the best fresh seafood! Started with tasty cold oysters on the half shell. Ordered the land and sea entree, as well as the panko crusted haddock. Everything was delicious and we wiped our plates clean! Great service as well. read more

Food was great. But...restaurant experience is heightened when everything comes together. Unfortunately it does not all come together at Fishbones. The atmosphere is very nice. The servers were very pleasant and helpful. The timing however was terrible. Unless you specifically tell your server you are in a hurry there is usually some time, at least a few minutes, between courses at such a restaurant. We did not even have time to sip a drink between plates being swished away and the next being set down sans silverware. I'd give the food 4 stars. Might have been higher if I could have enjoyed the meal. Calamari app was wonderful and set the expectations. Before we even cleared it the salads were delivered. The entrees were up on the counter under heat lamps where they sat as another person watched until we finished our salads. I felt very rushed. The place was not full so I don't understand the push through of orders. Kitchen staff was obviously working hard and does a great job with the food. Someone needs to calculate the course order to cook start timing much better to leave the right gap. This was Olive Garden in terms of coordination and timing , and it should not be. read more

We went here with another couple after good reviews found here, and were not disappointed. The restaurant is in a converted warehouse or factory, and is charming, with brick walls and large wooden beams, in a large space. Because of this, the acoustics are very "lively" and it is somewhat loud, but conversation is not difficult. The service was prompt, courteous and attentive. I had the Lobster Rangoon for appetizer, which was rather lacking in lobster flavor, but my wife was very happy with her Caesar salad, as was the other couple with their wedge salad. For dinner, I ordered Seared Scallops, which I generally love. They were just okay, with five medium sized scallops having fair to good flavor, set with a huge serving of quinoa, chopped eggs,edamame,and corn. On the other hand, my wife and the other husband RAVED about the Seafood Capellini, which was more than either could finish, so I polished off my wife's. It was delicious, in my opinion. The amounts of mussels, shrimp, lobster and fish were generous, and tasty. A real winner! Our fourth companion ordered Land & Sea, comprising a very good sirloin prepared medium-rare as ordered, plus shrimp and scallops. She loved it, as well, and would order it again. Overall, we enjoyed a very good meal at a reasonable price, with some uneven highs and lows. We would definitely return. read more

I have been here several times over the past few months. The atmosphere is nice - open but cozy, brick and wood. Maybe a bit noisy when they are busy. The staff is friendly. I would have given the restaurant a four star rating except that the food quality is a bit inconsistent. If you hit them on a good day, it's great. Otherwise, the food is just so-so. They have also just changed their menu and quite frankly I preferred the old choices. Their fish & chip dish - previously quite good - has been replaced with a potato crusted haddock that did not appear to be all that appetizing. My companion said it was "fine" but quite salty. I had their signature burger. The burger itself was good but it was served with "crisps" - a serious misnomer - they were soggy and tasteless potato slices. Too bad, I really liked their old fries which really were crispy and flavorful. I'm sure we'll go back, probably for brunch, as in the past it was quite a treat. Hopefully they haven't tinkered with that as well. Overall I would recommend trying Fish Bones. It is probably still the best the area has to offer. read more

We have always had a great experience but this time was a huge let-down. We were surprised the place was half-full on a Sat night. The scallops were not seared and nearly raw. The gnocchi was way over-sauced. My steak had to be sent back twice and lobster rangoon was hard as a brick - tasted re-fried with no lobster flavor. No beautiful asian slaw to go with it. I think they have changed chefs, and cut back on standards and the once awesome consistency of the food is now lost; hence, the many empty seats. I hope they bring back their high standards as Fishbones was always the place to go for locals. For now, it's Fuel until things turn around. So sad. read more

Having experienced Street & Co., and Old Port Sea Grill, and some NYC higher tier restaurants, this place is quite good for its locality -- in fact, I think it's the only game in town if you have to bring someone from out of town who is used to better restaurant experiences. The prices are high for the town, but they're actually really reasonable considering the quality of service and production, and they give you large portions. The 16 oz steaks look like they're actually 20 oz. The fish is very well made and they give you a lot. The appetizers are made with a level of refinement you'd expect in better restaurants. The staff are professional. The ambience can be very noisy so it may not be the best place for a romantic date at the restaurant's peak hours around 5ish. Highly recommended, and one of the best in Maine. read more

This place is tanking since our last visit in November. Pretty much every item on the menu is over-wrought and ridiculous (if you had a comic do a riff on silly "overly chef-y" items, you'd basically be reading the text at Fishbones for dinner). There's no steak unless it comes with truffle fries. There's no scallops unless they come with maple sauce. Etc etc. But the thing that really aggravates is the continued presence of the "touchy feely" waiter (who we always get, for some reason); honestly, the guy touches you repeatedly (a hand on your shoulder, a hand on your arm) all during dinner, and also likes to pipe in with comments on your conversation as he serves. He's a ringer for Tim Curry, which is fine, but he needs to back off--It's just too much. The one thing you can't take away from this place, however, is the beauty of the space: they really did an amazing job with the decor throughout. We were visiting Lewiston for a few days and found Fish Bones on yelp and wanted to give it a try! Best thing I've ever done! The food was absolutely delicious! We were pleasantly surprised at how good it was! For an appetizer i had the seared tuna sashimi and crispy fried calamari. It was the best tuna and calamari I've ever had! The tuna was so rare and flavorful! The Asian salad it came with not only made it look pretty but also gave extra flavor! Then I had the Panko crusted haddock which was also amazing. My mom had seared sea scalps. The couscous was just a bit to heavy on the cream but the scalps were perfect! As hard as it may seam, save some room for desert! We had the flour-less chocolate with caramel mousse on top. There was a brittle on top that was a bit to sweet for my liking. Our server Jamie was excellent! Our water glasses were always filled. She was very enthusiastic about her job and gave very good suggestions. The food came out a little slow, but it was well worth the wait! Fish Bones is one of the best restaurants I've ever Been to! We went for the first time on 12/26/12 and were one of two tables. The food was FANTASTIC...I have lived in Maine all of my life but I have never had scallops cooked to perfection until I had Fish Bones version. I am giving them a low rating because our waitress was a super ditz! Our entrees were to include clam chowder and a salad. We waited and our meals arrived but not the chowder or salad. When I brought it to the waitress's attention, she said "oh, I never work the dinner service, I work the lunch service - I thought the entrees were pretty pricey, but now it makes sense". I had to ask her to get a menu and I pointed out the fact we were still missing part of our meal! The chowder was barely warm and had lumps of flour in it once we were served. I think the waitress could have been a little more helpful once the mistake was brought to her attention. I should not have to pay $65+ for a meal and walk the waitress through doing her job! read more
