Steve was absolutely welcoming and energetic despite us showing near closing. Jose was our chef and even made us a custom (off menu) hand roll that blew us away. The yellow tail sashimi was incredibly soft and fresh. We were informed that their fish comes in fresh daily from the boats not a processing plant and it absolutely shows. The fish is so fresh, but the decor is so dated. It's a casual spot for sushi and they have a giant menu with lots of non-sushi items (if raw fish isn't your deal). The waitstaff is friendly, but it takes a long time to get your sushi order. Everything from the kitchen comes out quick though. Fish in a Bottle seems like a very hole in the wall place when you look on Yelp but when you actually get there it really blows you away. From decor to the service they are on top of it. The crunch crunch role was recommended by our server and it was probably the best sushi we ate that night. Overall, great sushi, great ambience & great service. Would definitely come again! I got the salmon sushi (raw salmon on rice) which, I've had this before at other places and I have always been able to taste the fishiness of it and I've never enjoyed that. We go to this place often, the food is good, it's convenient for us since we live in the area and the service for the most part has been good till last night, we got there literally at 7:50pm. And we knew they close at 9pm. We set at the bar to make it faster since we knew they were closing soon. the only waitress that was working. The shift was so rude, The whole time we were there she couldn't care less to serve us and when she did, she was not happy to do it. I know it was the end of the the night and they were rushing trying to get out, and rushing people out of the restaurant as soon as possible, but it was only 8:35pm when she came asking if we needed anything else we said no, she brought us the check and literally she threw it in front of my husband's face!!! We could not believe that she did that. Hey an accident. It happens. Not the issue. We had to get up and move from our now war zone eating area while they cleaned it up. The manager & my favorite server (purple flower) Belle have greeted me with a soccer tunnel. The food is absolutely phenomenal & Belle consistently gives the best recommendations. This is a hard one to reconcile, so I will get straight to the point. First, the waitress did a great job and was friendly. Second the food... When it finally came, it was really tasty and exactly what I was craving. Yes, I know I'm a foodie and over-dressed rolls are sort of like eating a hotdog at AM/PM, but occasionally, I'm down with that. I think this place is a Yorba Linda favorite for non-sushi aficionados because they do a pretty good job of sopping wet cut rolls. The problem here is that this place can't seem to balance serving it's actual, in person customers versus it's to go orders. So let's start with the fact that they told us it was a five minute wait and we didn't get seated for 20 minutes. Once we get seated, it took another 15 minutes to place our order... Once we place our order, it took over an hour and a half to get our food. it would've been OK if we were drinking sake and sitting in comfortable chairs, but unfortunately we just came for a couple of rolls and the chairs are horrible. Meanwhile we watch the sushi bar filling up to go orders nonstop, and dozens of people coming in to get to go orders. I look around and 75% of the restaurant has either no food at all, or only appetizers on the table at any given time. The wait staff is running around like crazy people because they know the in-person diners are angry but there's nothing they can do about it. It's a management/owner problem. Many places fell apart during Covid but we're at the point of change when covid is no longer to blame. Now it's just poor management. It's been a few years since I ate at this restaurant and it's definitely going to be a few years before I come here again. Hopefully they figure it out before then. So if you're willing to wait a very long time for some Americanized "sushi" at a restaurant that routinely has one hour wait time, enjoy. This location along Imperial Highway in Placentia should not be confused with the restaurant with the same name in Cypress. The Cypress restaurant was sold to another owner years ago but the new owner has refused to change the name of the restaurant much to the dismay of the original owner who has kept the Placentia location. At any rate, Fish in A Bottle Placentia has continued to delight customers like me with their delicious renditions of Japanese classics and original creations, such as Spicy Tuna and Chips.
