I was craving for something fried so decided to try this place since I've had it booked marked for quite some time. I had my hubby go pick the food up since I read that it was located in a not so nice area. Well, we ordered a regular size fried prawns with fries and a 3 piece fried chicken with fries combo. They both came with a fountain drink which was nice. I believe the total came out to be around $18 or so? Really good price. The prawns were AMAZING!!! Fried to perfection and was huge! I am craving it while I am writing this review.. Omg if there was one thing I would order from here it is the fried Prawns.. Prawns not shrimp.. Prawns! It also came with a cocktail dipping sauce that went along with it perfectly. The fried chicken was super juicy and crispy but the flavors weren't really there. I don't believe they seasoned it at all...but still enjoyable. Damn.. I think I'm gonna go order me some more prawns for dinner tonight. :) read more

Got the shrimp combo, it comes with a side and a fountain drink for $8 and change. Shrimp was deep fried in a light batter and was good. It came with a dipping sauce that tasted like cocktail sauce, ketchup and hot sauce, which went well with the shrimp. The fries were fresh and seasoned. The portion was big for a lunch and there was a good shrimp to fry ratio. All in all, the food was fantastic. The ketchup packets and hot sauce packets look the same! I was wondering why one of the ketchup packets I opened up was so watery. Turns out it was hot sauce. No complaints from me though, the combo went well with the fries. The lady who took my order was very nice and friendly. Only downside is that there's only 2 tables and they charge 75 cents to use atm/credit. Don't let the looks fool you...this place is sooooo good! We have only had the seafood because we only eat seafood. But this is honestly some of the BEST fried fish I have ever had. Everything is made to order. They have a ton of sides and their combos come plenty of food. Make sure to get there secret red sauce to dip their perfectly seasoned fries or HUGE jumbo prawns in. Now this is WHAT I'm talking about!!!! It's hard to find halal fried chicken and even more difficult to find amazing halal fried chicken! Now this is located in a very small parking lot next to human hair weaves and little Caesars. Now as you walk in, it looks like one of those cash and check places where they have a whole pane of glass/hard plastic between the kitchen/register and the customer area. There are only like a two tables and high bar table also. Honestly you would most likely want take out here or maybe try a little bit of chicken while it's hot and fresh before you go! You have a slew of options from fried fish, shrimp, prawns, chicken, catfish, tilapia, red snapper, sole fish, oysters, chicken wings and hoagie sandwiches. I ended up ordering the 16 piece chicken with fries and a hoagie chicken/steak/chicken sandwich. Now with fried chicken, it will take a while about 15-20 minutes but that's okay if it means you'll get the best quality that you can. Now they hooked it up with the fries!!!! like there was so much!!!!!!! The fried chicken was crispy with just the right amount of oil. The meat was tender and hot. The herbs and spices in this chicken made the flavor come out so much more and it was anything but plain! The fries were seasoned just right so it didn't feel like normal fries. I also ordered the Hoagie sandwich which is $6.80 and added chicken and steak and hamburger and the total went to $12.96 or so. Now for those of you that are wondering, they hook up the meat even if you choose one meat so I'd suggest to get one meat and if you need to, then order another sandwich with another meat that'll be the same price as ordering all three. Now for the sandwich, it was amazing. I loved the way they cooked the meat and it was tender yet juicy and it really combines with the veggies and the fried onions they put on there. Kind of like a Philly cheese steak honestly. I really don't like a lot of fried chicken places because they are forgettable, burnt, unflavored, meh or just a regret. So, we were at JJ's and overheard someone say "I shoulda gone to the Fish King". Don't get me wrong, JJ's is delicious, but they don't have the hoagie. This steak & shrimp hoagie is EVERYTHING! And yes, get it with EVERYTHING, it's amazing!! The bread, pillowy soft, but hearty enough to keep from getting soggy, the meat and cheese portion's just right, the jalapeño gives it just the right kick, YASSS! We also had the catfish, sole, party wings and fries...don't judge. All were hot, fresh & tasty. The neighborhood isn't great, but it was so worth it. We'll be back! read more

I would give them 5 stars but my daughter's catfish was seasoned better than mine. I order the Red Snapper. The seasoning or batter used was ok. If you have high blood pressure or worried about salt intake, it's perfect. Although it did have the all the crunchiness that I love. Now I ordered the small Red Snapper combo. It came with 4 pieces of fish which was really 2 slender pieces of Red Snapper which became 4 pieces like whhhaaaa laaaa. The string beans were savory almost salty but not quite. Never fails to provide fresh, delicious food. I get the three piece catfish meal. I always waive the drink option just because they're generic and not the real deal. I think they'd profit on expanding their beverage variety. Anyways I have NEVER gotten a bad batch of fish from these guys and for the price!!!! It's a complete steal. I love the light cornmeal batter and the meatiness of the filets. In San Francisco a fish and fry meal no drink included has ran me about $20 bucks... Here my meal is about $7.80.. I live in the area so I just can't get enough. The area can be a little annoying more so because people are loitering or cat calling but I always get nice vibes once inside Fish King. Can I give this place SIX STARS?? I dine out all the time and frequent favorites as I discover them. FISH KING is my new all time favorite! I was in a jam and needed food catered for two (needed to feed 4) for a PIP (private indoor picnic) in two days! The guest of honor requested Seafood (fried) with oysters in the midst. I emailed Adam (the owner) via Yelp after hours stating the above. I hoped for a response in the morning or the next day. Adam responded that evening within a hour if I am not mistaken, stating they would be able to accommodate my request...wow. I told him I would be in the next day to order and secure payment for the event. When I arrived, they are located in the shopping center where I used get my beauty and hair supplies.The business is clean and had folks waiting which is ALWAYS a good sign vs an empty food establishment. Mr. Naem Abdallah (Adam's Father) greeted me and said he was expecting me! He shared menu favorites and offered suggestions. I decided on oysters, shrimp and catfish platter accompanied with three salads: macaroni, potato and coleslaw. Pick up for the following day a half hour after opening. Adam, even made a guest appearance coming to front to meet me and ensure things were OK. Dad offered me a soda as I was leaving :-) The morning of the event, Mr. Naem Abdallah called to confirm pick up and see if I wanted it packaged a certain way? How thoughtful. All I needed was to add dessert to my order; which he said was of course no problem. When I arrived for pick up (a half hour after opening) there were already folks filing in. My order was ready. He added complimentary wings for me to try and bottled water...sweet! Oh and condiments up the WAAZOO!! Cocktail sauce, hot sauce, tartar sauce, etc. Now the FOOD: AWESOME!!!!! A bounty of shrimp, oysters, catfish and wings. Fresh, tender and seasoned to perfection. The mac salad had a sweet tasty thing going on and the coleslaw crunchy the way I like it. The potato salad was consumed too quickly for me to try. So, maybe next time and THERE WILL BE A NEXT TIME! There was enough food for dinner later that evening which made my daughter smile :-) German chocolate cake and peach cobbler to boot...really? YES, really. For a "hole in the wall" establishment, I LOVE this place, and the staff are always friendly. Honestly, I'd probably give this place 4 1/2 stars, because every now and then the fish or chicken might get over-cooked, but that is not the norm. However, I clicked on 5 stars, because the overall taste is "Tony the Tiger" GRRRR-8T! I really like their combos. The chicken wings (regular) are HELLA good! One of my coworkers used to tell me to pick him up some the night before, because they're even good cold. Thier shrimp is good, but what makes the shrimp AMAZING is their supercalifragilisticespialadocious (That's not the name of the sauce) sauce. (I know I just put that on thick, but if you dip your shrimp in their sauce, you'll understand why. I used to go to JJ's, but after my brother turned me on to this place, I haven't been back to JJ's. On a side note, if you're in a rush, you might not get you food fast, because they make everything fresh and there's usually several people in there waiting, but it's worth it. I b lined out of my way hoping to get really good fried fish. Called in my order and picked it up. Noticed that it wasn't a very appealing smell, not that you expect it ro smell like flowers but it should smell appetizing. Got home and opened the bag and saw that the prawn and red snapper was prawns and Swai. Needless to say, I was very upset in that Swai is a cheap fish from S.E. Asia and does not cost near the price of snapper. My fisrt thought is that this was intentional and they do bait and switch because they are in a low income neighborhood. This is a hole in the wall place but if you like fried fish I would say do not sleep on fish king. The location isn't the best location. It's off a busy street and located in a shopping center. There is parking available inside as well as street parking. There prawns are a nice spice and for fish plates they are not stingy with the portions. I will be back again!! read more

there's a security watchman wandering around here somewheres, a opd cruiser with warming lights blazing, and an ambulance with sirens blaring, so i felt pretty safe grabbing a bite to eat here. they are a few doors away from caesar's pizza. i was initially disappointed they didn't have sole(6.99) but settled on the catfish (reg combo. 6.99). ahad(not his real name) and his frymate served up 4 semigenerous pieces of catfish which was thick, fresh, juicy, and fllaky, and lightly breaded with corn meal and black pepper. two pieces of warmed, lightly buttered wheat, a choice of sides, and a soda completed the combo. the potato salad was similar to what i brought before from smart & final. side choices include black rice, beans, greens, cole slaw, et. al. peach cobbler(2.99) is extra. they also serve chicken, which i plan to try next. it's a good thing this wasn't named "chicken king" since a chinese person would have trouble explaining why he going to a "ji wong" (chicken king). a mandarin alternative transition would be "the king of prostitutes". the is the best fish & chip i've tasted. probably tied with london (hayward) long live the king. don't behead this king even with a mock trial. read more

There are probably five fish places that are closer to my house but I'll make the trip over here because the food quality is excellent and the portions are large and most importantly the customer service and the willingness to "hook a brother up" is much appreciated! For example a lot of places are stingy with their condiments and here if you want a lot of tartar sauce they give it to you - - if you coming towards the end of the day if they have extra food they'll give you some so you can try for example the greens are delicious. Also a drink is included with every meal so they're not trying to get you with two dollars soda LOL Long story short good food nice people and good value make this place as popular as it is. read more

When your food is so good that you have bulletproof glass protecting you from getting your food robbed, then your pretty good. I thought this was a check cashing place with the way it looked and in a strip mall. A buddy and i came to a VERY sketchy part of Oakland to try some good catfish. The seafood did not disappoint. The deep fried oysters were on point and perfect. I would say one of the best i ever had. Not greasy and perfectly battered with their cornmeal breading. The catfish was on point and the prawns were good. The chicken was meh... but the seafood definitly made up for it. The peach cobbler we got was not made locally so it was mushy. But then, i didnt come here for the cobbler. The lowdown is, come here when there is light (to ensure noone robs you of your lunch ... possibly bring a bulletproof vest), order the seafood dishes. I would rate @ 5 *'s, but the location is not the best or the safest. The food on the other hand, so "Good" as if I made it myself! :) If you are in a hurry, go down the street to Popeye's. The food here is made to order, so it takes a minute. I ordered the Shrimp combo, $7, and it came with a side, I opted for the red beans & rice, and a drink. The shrimp was fried fresh, not over done and seasoned well. My husband ordered the chicken wings and catfish combo, $9, that came with a side and drink. 2 of the largest chicken wings that were seasoned well and fried to perfection. The chicken to me, was better than the wings I received in L.A. at Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles! The fish was just as perfect as the chicken. Holy Mother of crispy fried goodness!!! A coworker was ordering from Fish King. I decided to try it because - well I didn't have to leave the office at twilight and this is a dicey neighborhood. Best. Move. Ever. I had a catfish plate - with dirty rice, bread and a soda. Heaven. The portion of fish was huge so I shared with yet another co-worker and we were both completely satisfied. The dirty rice was fine but not anything special. The fish though! Oh the fish. Catfish is one of those things that can go either way - either greasy, fishy, nasty or - like this - fragrant, moist, flavorful, delicate and perfect. The cornmeal breading is light and crispy but not hard. It was flavorful but not salty and it perfectly balanced the fish. This place was recommended to me by a family member, so I decided to take my mom because she only eats Halaal (same as Kosher) meat. Ordered their fried chicken. It was just "eh" for me. I found the chicken to be lacking a lot of flavor. It was moist, but it tasted like it was boiled in unseasoned water and then dredged in lightly seasoned flour. Mom didn't seem to enjoy it much at all and commented that she could make it better herself at home. (this be true! haha!)
