This place was recommended to me by a family member, so I decided to take my mom because she only eats Halaal (same as Kosher) meat. Ordered their fried chicken. It was just "eh" for me. I found the chicken to be lacking a lot of flavor. It was moist, but it tasted like it was boiled in unseasoned water and then dredged in lightly seasoned flour. I meant to post this a few weeks ago. The fried fish and chicken are really good and nicely seasoned. And the guys are very nice. I needed a very large order of fish to take to a bereaved family last minute and they were glad to accommodate. Fish always great. Chicken strips ask for smaller or thinner cuts taste and textor better. Fries are great, simple with sprinkle or salt seasoning. Always super hot and delicious. Sometimes there a long wait, but the food is really good. My fave is the steak hoagie! It's in a busy area, so sometimes parking can be hard, but overall I really love this place. This place is so good that I don't even mind the fact that my life is in danger every time I go there. In the middle of International Blvd you would definitly expect to find a Fish and Chicken place, but how about one that is run by Palestinians? I don't know if it's some sort of Middle Eastern secret recipe or something but their fish is AMAZING! I have yet to have fish anywhere near this quality. After wondering for so long whether to make the drive into this area of Oakland, I finally decided to do it and got me some pretty damn good fried catfish. It was delicious. It's already pretty hard to choose amongst 3 of the same kinds of places where they all serve fried foods of sorts: chicken, fish, shrimp, oyster. To choose between Fish King, JJ's, and Holiday now makes me wonder if they're all pretty much the same or one can outshine the others. But I had the Fried Fish (catfish) with a side of Greens and a 16oz drink for under $8. It came with 3 pieces of nicely tender fish coated with a crispy cornmeal mixture that gave it its crisp and spice....so good. Then slapped on two wheat breads and it was became a ghetto fried fish poboy...fitting. While the tartare sauce and hot sauce were in packets, I'd wish they had some more origin and uniqueness to accompany such a fine fried fish. Small place,two tables,little parking (they share the lot with a few other stores) but good food. It's definatly cheaper then JJ's down the street. I think I got a Catfish fillet combo (with fries and drink) for 7 something. JJ's is maybe a little more than that. My food was cooked to order and hot out the grease which makes sense cuz cold fish isn't the bidness :) Overall, a coo place to get some fried fish and/or fried chicken. Only downside is the size of the place.Thankfully while we were there we got a table but if you REALLY want to sit and eat, I'd just spend a few extra bucks and go to JJ's. read more

The food is very reasonably priced for the portion that you receive. It is located near village so there are a lot of characters. The line is was long upon arrival. The fish here is phenomenal....Im mean lets be real you know a spot is good when all the grandmas are lined up after church on a Sunday. Its a small spot. The location is a lil rough, but not too bad.. I bought a regular snapper meal and a large prawn order. The 3 pieces of snapper were fried and seasoned well. And the 15 prawns were extra meaty and hella good.. definitely worth trying. read more

This was a terrific find for us. We were looking for something tasty and we Found it. I had the tilapia and my partner had the catfish fillet with fries. Both came out with a delicate breaded crust and piping hot and delicious. We aren't often in this area but I would definitely come again if I were. This place is always crowded because the food is good. But they run out of steak really quick. It's not the best location but if you love fried chicken and fish this is the place to go. this place is really good for a fried food feast...note, yes, it's not necessarily the healthiest food but when ur going all out for some fried grub it's kind of assumed ur gonna be a gluttonous fiend for a lil bit... ordered the big fish king feast - 2 chicken wings, 2 kinds of fish, oysters, shrimp and a drink. now the wings - excellent, i think i want to get a bucket of these next time...nice flavor, cooked well but not greasy fish - definitely i think some of the best fried fish i've had in a long time, got the snapper and the sole, really light, dry fried batter on the fish and the fish was still moist...good flavor, and the light batter really complimented the white fish. again, not greasy which was great shrimp and the oysters....overall delicious...the oysters are fatties which was great...well fried and the shrimp are large shrimp too, meaty pieces. I eat a lot...like, A LOT so i ordered this large box of fried goodness and thought i could manage...but fell a little short of glory...the food is heavy, being fried, so eating all of it in one sitting was a little more than i could handle...you get A LOT of food but it's all really delicious...personal favorite is the wings and fish...but overall this place has great fried food that is NOT greasy (a problem i find too common with fried food) deliciousness!!! read more

I have to give this place a 5 because all their pros wayyy overpass their cons. The place sells halal meat (youtube video about halal meat - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZ_wT6_1nXE) I go to Fish King to get their steak hoagie sandwiches which is my favorite thing to order there. I also had their fried chicken and fish which is really good, too. My older brother thinks they sell the best tasting fish ever, my mom digs their fried chicken, and my husband, little brother, little sister, dad, and I are the hoagie fans. With the amount of food they serve, the price is good. The owner is one of the nicest man I've ever met. Real friendly, kind, and good with customer service. The location of the store is uh... it's right next to the projects and it's on the busy street of international so there's a lot of people hangin around the streets. But I can see why the business doesn't move locations... they are always busy when I go there! They have a security guard though... so once I park my car I just rush in the store. Although this is not a good thing about going to Fish King, I had to be truthful and mention this because it deals with safety and I worry about that for everyone but especially for my sisters. Im from Oakland, so i dont mind the less than pleasant neighborhood. Love the hoagies, catfish and chicken wings! Sides include: Dirty Rice, Mac n Cheese, French Fries, Collard Greens, Peach Cobbler which is a huge portion for $5. Its owned by muslims, so no PORK, and a truly nice family. Great addition to the East Oakland Lockwood area, it's all ppl stop and get on Fridays and Saturdays in the town. I've been meaning to come down here for a while, husband took me today for the 1st time. One rude patron who i guess was hungry? But in a hurry, yellin at this other patron.
