We made a last minute reservation for a party of 10, and 15 people ended up showing up, which was outside what they originally could accommodate considering it was a very busy night for them. The waitress, Sarah France, made a miracle happen and found us another table, which we ultimately didn't end up using. I've heard good things in years past, but have never been until now. Underwhelming is a good description. The ambiance is nice, and casual. The service was slow, almost non existent, even though they weren't very busy at lunch time. The fried Brussels sprouts sounded different. It was, but not in a good way. The fish and chips was very thick. So thick that the breading wasn't fully cooked. The maple steak tips were tender, but full of gristle, and almost too stringy to eat without choking. I give this place a five star plus!! First our server (Michelle) was the BEST server I've ever had and I'm old so that says a lot. She was attentive and kind. We had a large family and she had such a great personality for all of us. She's a great representative for this restaurant. And finally the food was delicious. I only came here because my friend who lives in the area said that it was a good place but she hadn't been here in several years and once we sat down and looked at the menus, she said that they had changed drastically. Still, it's a decent enough pub, burgers, fries, sandwiches, salads and cocktails. I saw two separate tables order their lobster rolls and in hindsight I wish I had gotten that instead of the French Onion Soup (too salty) and the sandwich (too much dressing). I ended up at Fitzwilly's for a late lunch on a Sunday after my first choice was closed. They have a large menu and another list of daily specials so it took me a few minutes to take it all in. My server kept stopping by and apologizing that she was delivering food and drinks to other tables and she'd get to me as soon as possible. I wasn't too worried. I ended up ordering a daily special and she looked at me like I was crazy then looked at the list. She apologized that the hostess gave me yesterday's specials. She was going back to see if the kitchen would make it. I said I was on the fence between this and the Shrimp Fra Diavolo anyway so I'll just have the shrimp. Once again very apologetic. The Shrimp Fra Diavolo (Pan blackened shrimp tossed with fresh rigatoni in a spicy tomato pomodoro sauce. Served with garlic crostini) came out fairly quickly. Boy, was this an odd dish. The sauce was full of roasted red peppers which the menu didn't mention and the shrimp was cooked in a typical Cajun blackening seasoning. Nothing was really bad it was just sort of an Italian dish of pasta with Cajun shrimp on top. It felt like 2 uncohesive dishes. I was hungry and I ate it all. This place is a Northampton mainstay. One of my favorite spots to visit in Northampton! I've come here about a dozen times over the years and have thoroughly enjoyed my experience each and every time! I've had multiple different menu items and have always thought the food was delicious! They usually have some worthwhile specials and the drink menu has always been great! I've always been able to get a table or seat quickly and if there is a wait you can pop into toasted owl next door for a quick beer while you wait. The wait staff and bartenders have always been pleasant and accommodating and the food has always come out in decent time! Our party had a small issue of not understanding how the holiday gifts cards worked, but the manager, Beth, promptly came over and remedied the situation and we were very pleased with this. Plus, the food is awesome for American fare. I had the blue cheese burger with mushrooms, asked for it medium rare and they actually cooked it that way, which rarely happens. The Good: - The interior - They did allow one of the people in our party to order the lobster mac and cheese, which was no longer on the menu but they put it together for her anyway - Pretty wide range of menu offerings, something for everyone The Bad: - Food took super long to come out - My meal arrived lukewarm. - My cousin ordered the Thanksgiving sandwich, and the gravy that came out with it was ice cold - They don't allow you to only order one sammie, the minimum order is two. Which, for those with smaller appetites is a bit of a waste - The waitress was a bit inattentive to our table and pretty hard to track down (a meal shouldn't take over an hour and half, most of which is waiting around because there's an issue with your order or waiting to pay the bill). The food itself, other than being cold, was alright. I got the stuffed shrimp lunch special, which is about a half of the normal size portion. The shrimp was pretty tasty, and the portion was filling. I also got to try the lobster mac and cheese which was definitely the winner of our table, and if I had to recommend a dish there that would be it. Came here on a recommendation from a customer in Palmer. I'm traveling for business and just wanted a place to get a decent bite to eat and a cold beer while following up on emails of the day. The bar is solid, definitely old word charm. It was pretty quiet. I sat at the bar with several seats between me and the next closest patrons. The beer was indeed cold and refreshing. The barkeep, Rob, was very personable and recommended the spicy Caesar salad when I asked him what to get to eat. While absolutely delicious (added blackened salmon), I saw my neighbor get a Reuben delivered. I was instantly sad that I didn't get the Reuben. It looked amazing. And a friend once told me, if ever there is a Reuben on the menu, get the Reuben. You'll never be disappointed. Ha! Side note, Rob is awesome. He quickly acknowledged that I was dining alone and was uncomfortable with one of the patrons trying to engage me in conversation. He had my back. It came with fries, so oily I'll never need moisturizer again! (Silver lining). And even that I can overlook if they actually tasted like fries. Still not certain what they were. The "vegetable medley" served looked like it was rescued just before they were to be ground into fertilizer. This place had a 4.4 rating on google, which is why we stopped here, but the yelp rating is a more accurate(if super generous) rating. Thanks for the nightmares. One of the worst meals that we have ever had. We have eaten in the restaurant previously and did takeout this time. Orders were like this. The pulled pork was a ball of fat. The bun was wet, not soggy. The fries were wet and barely cooked. The chicken wings were RAW, all had to be tossed. Spicy Caesar salad. This was nothing like the picture. There was little to no egg or bacon. Asked for dressing on the side. Which they did without a lid so it was all over the salad anyway. Ordered the California turkey burger which was over cooked to a hockey puck and had no avocado on it. The sweet potato fries were soggy. Ordered the fried chicken with fries and slaw with buffalo wings. The fries were soggy, the slaw was ok but the buffalo wings were raw and had no sauce. So after spending over $100 on a meal, driving 30 min to pick it up, we ended up throwing it all away and eating cereal for dinner.
