This restaurant is actually a rather gigantic space in Corona Del Mar on PCH. They have a wonderful main dining, a back room dining, and then a back back covered and heated patio, beautifully lit throughout the entire restaurant. We had a reservation Saturday night however , the table they had selected for us was a little bit too close to the main door . So.... We opted to have our dinner in the adjacent restaurant, which is a very cute pub called "the side door." They gave us a beautiful table in the Shakespeare room right by the fireplace. This restaurant is so fun to dine in. You really do feel like you're in old world Europe. It's great for couples , families , children or for business get togethers. We started the evening with a flight of whiskeys called "hiking in the Highlands." Our favorite was the scotch whiskey. We had the baked oysters to start with and one of their delicious salads. We decided to have the prime rib with mashed potatoes and gravy and asparagus ... it was nice. And of course very typical of Lawrys. The service was nice , it felt a bit rushed throughout our meal... All of the staff members were very attentive from the check-in person to the wait staff . Really on the ball... the two hours that we spent there, I must say , it was never not busy. It just kept getting busier and busier as the night went on. My recommendation would be to go during the week , less crowded. You have more time to decide if you want to eat in the main dining room, or the side bar less rushed. I believe I counted three fireplaces throughout the entire property. I booked a surprise 50th birthday for my wife at Five Crowns. We reserved the Brighton Room for a private event for a party of 30. Could not say enough about the incredible experience we received from FC staff, everything from the excellent service, delicious food, and elegant and charming venue. Most everyone in my party ordered the prime rib and they all raved about how tender and juicy it was. Allison (manager) helped me plan the event. She was very meticulous, responsive, and went out of her way to ensure the surprise birthday was memorable. One thing to keep in mind is be careful if you're on a budget, because things can add up quickly. The ambiance of Five Crowns is charming. The decor is right on point for a recreation of an English Country Inn. The waitstaff are prompt and friendly, white tablecloth service as formal as you'd expect for such a place. We visited on Mothers Day, eager for the much touted Prime Rib. Considering this is a Lawry's steakhouse we were disappointed by the food. Although we ordered prime rib at different temperatures, our meat showed up identical. There was no difference between the temperature of two entrées we ordered. Considering this is a steakhouse run by Lawry's known for their exquisite steak seasoning salt, the meat was completely unseasoned. The mashed potatoes were drowned in salty gravy however, other sides were bland. The highlight of the meal was the lobster bisque. I had a reservation for a larger party at 5:15, and it was quite easy to find parking given the location. You have the choice of valeting your car, or parking across the street on the hill (parking in the neighborhood near the restaurant is nearly impossible). We were seated quickly and ordered calamari, variois cuts of prime rib, truffle fries, and creme brulee later for dessert. We also ordered the bermunda mocktail which was ube and strawberry and tasted great. The calamari was good, but it needed some Lawry's salt on it to make it a bit more flavorful. The prime rib is amazing. It doesn't seem like much, but it's quite filling. All of the sides help to make eating the meat not repetitive. Truffle fries is such a huge portion that I couldn't even finish it with another person. I love the massive portions here. Our server was attentive, kind, and even gave our table a few extra desserts on the house. It was a cute little strawberry cake. Our creme brulee was amazing as well. Overall, I'd definitely be back. Excellent dining experience and service here at Five Crowns. The ambience was beautiful and comfortable. You'll definitely want to stay a while. We decided to do the dinner for two special they had- which included a crab cake appetizer, spring salad, prime rib (you could also choose salmon or a risotto), and hot fudge sundae. We were able to get mashed potatoes as our side instead of the creamed spinach or creamed corn. The only reason I took off one star is because their potatoes weren't as good compared to the outstanding quality of everything else we received. I loved the salad, crab cakes, complimentary bread and butter, prime rib, and the ice cream sundae. My husband also had the Russian river valley Pinot noir and the cocktail infused with smoke (I think it included the words 'red sky' and 'sailor'). I had sips of both drinks and they were very good. The sundae I think was my favorite part of the meal. At first I thought it wouldn't be special because it wasn't the chocolate soufflé. We came here for an early Father's Day dinner. Our server was very friendly. However, it took forever for our food to come out. There was a bizarre hour-long gap between our appetizers and mains. When our main courses finally arrived, they were barely tepid and had obviously been sitting for a LONG time. Another party arrived halfway through our meal and ended theirs at the same time we did even though they also did the three course meal. Ultimately our dinner took three hours due to the restaurant's egregious delays in serving our food. Also, they only served four dinner rolls for our party of five and did not refill our water glasses despite us asking them for more water multiple times. Unfortunately, I do not plan to return. However, docking a star because my brother ordered his medium rare and it came out medium well. No pink at all in the middle. He didn't take it back and have it remade but for a place where you're spending this much money and with so much prestige behind it, the prime rib should come out how you order it...the chefs really dropped the ball. Let's talk about the best things first... The Prime Rib! The bone inn Henry VIII PRIME RIB is absolutely the best tasting prime rib on earth. The Horseradish cream sauce is Heavenly. Yorkshire Pudding that comes with it is as good as any I have ever tasted!!! Creamed corn is included and it too is delish. The included spinach is just ok. Ehhhh... it is loaded with Oxalates anyway, so if it is not delicious it's easy to pass on. The prime rib was cooked to a perfect medium rare. For an Appetizers we had some OYSTERS ROCKEFELLER... They were very good. Not the best ever but very good. French onion soup was good. Lobster bisque came out lukewarm which isn't cool for expensive soup. Now for the awful part. It was a reservation for my Birthday, so my husband mentioned that it was important to celebrate that and they did something bizarre. They seated us in a basically clear plastic outdoor area that had a big cold draft, with a large opening in the plastic next to our table. So it was drafty and cold. We had walked through the whole restaurant which is beautiful, decorated for Christmas cozy, dark wood and rich fabrics, but we were seated in uncomfortable chairs in this very backyard patio type area, enclosed with zippered plastic walls. The chairs felt like I was sitting in a folding back yard chair. We reluctantly ordered, as we had waited about a half hour for our reservation. There were singing groups dressed in old English costume who came around signing Christmas songs which was lovely. Our waiter, was not someone who we would request in the future, ever... so I will leave him out. He was not a good listener and brought us a few more messed up things. The people who were seated at the table next to us sat down looking stunned and the guy said. I am not sitting here! We had already ordered but I wish we had done more than express our discontent to our waiter. We would have had a much better experience and certainly a better waiter as our guy was really not good. Our driver said his regular clients had a very similar experience with a really bad waiter. Then it was time to bring me my special birthday desert. I said I would be happy with vanilla ice cream. No candle even and our waiter charged for the birthday desert. One scoop of ice cream $6 in a stainless steel dish. There is more but at this point you get the drift. Make sure to research who their best waiters are and ask to sit in the restaurant building, not the clear plastic makeshift room. I am only giving the review a 3 because the prime rib was delicious and it is not my intention to hurt 5 crowns. We came here last night for my husband's birthday dinner. We sat in the green house and it was beautiful. Super open and you could see the garden through all the glass windows. Definitely recommend sitting there. The bread they bring to the table is bomb. It's served with whipped butter and flake sea salt. EAT THE BREAD. One of my fave parts of dinner haha 5/5 For an appetizer we got the fritto misto. This was really good too but I didn't like the onions, they must have been battered differently than everything else, they tasted like tarragon. Just personal preference, I don't like tarragon(black licorice flavor) the shrimp, calamari and peppers were crispy and the lemon sauce was fire. 4/5 Now for dinner My husband got the prime ribeye, it was good quality and the garlic on top was amazing but it was wayyyy rare and we ordered it medium. He still ate it, but I don't eat my steak that way. I just tried some of the end pieces lol 5/5 Lobster Mac n Cheese- honestly this was whatever and I wouldn't order it again 2/5 Prime Rib Dinner- overall pretty good but nothing special. I liked the creamed corn over everything else 3/5 Dessert- Chocolate soufflé was chocolatey and delicious but it was a little over done for my taste. We got married at Five Crowns 8 years ago and wanted to go back for our anniversary dinner. I was a little worried because of all the recent bad reviews and wondered what the heck was going on with the quality. We were seated just a couple of minutes after we arrived for our reservation and taken upstairs. The only time I had been upstairs was when we used the rooms upstairs for my changing room when we got married and our First Look pictures, which was in the room we were seated! Kind of nice to sit up there looking down on the outside telephone booth. I don't think they had tables up there 8 years ago. Peter helped us and I think Martin was the person taking our plates and such. Peter was great and I loved his sense of humor. He was attentive, and Martin was great at keeping my hot water refilled the entire night. Our food (California Cut prime ribs) came out in a timely fashion, everything was delicious. We ordered the dark chocolate soufflé which was perfect a la mode, and the whole evening was fantastic. First time back in decades to see the Christmas caroling. Heads up: you'll want (maybe even need) to make a reservation if visiting in December since the caroling tradition seems to run deep here. It was great enjoying your meal and hearing live caroling. They'll come around to your table too and take a song request. The service was a bit hectic inside as it's probably the busiest time of the year for them. Prime rib was tasty but I'd say The House of Prime Rib up north is still my #1. Creme brulee seemed to be the dessert to order and next time I'd want to try the chocolate souffle. They also had a gift card special where you get a bonus card to use later. That was nice to stack and then you can get more points with their VIP rewards program too. Five Crowns is pretty much my go-to with my boyfriend for the past 2 years for nice dinners! You can't go wrong here. They take reservations, and the hosts are quick to seat you at your time. The servers are always attentive and lively, and the ambience is romantic. Inside, it's a bit dimly lit, and the you get English pub/steakhouse vibes. Normally, we park on the street and just walk to the restaurant (don't worry, we've never had to park too far!), but there's also valet right across Five Crowns' door. They'll start you off with fresh, warm dinner rolls with butter and salt on the side. You can ask for more! We usually get the prime rib chili cheese fries and calamari as starters. For the main, the prime rib is fabulous here, and I love it with the au jus and horseradish. I get the California cut with the 3 slices, and it's a good portion for me. You also get 2 sides to go with it, choosing from creamed corn, creamed spinach, and mashed potatoes. The creamed corn is quite addicting for us. This time I got creamed spinach as well, but I don't think I'd get it again. It's mixed with pork, and the flavor is a bit much for me. I'd probably double the corn if I could next time! My pod and I celebrated a quadfecta of birthdays last night. It had to be a 5:30pm reservation due to the size of our party (8). Don't scan the QR code for drinks because the server said there's a lag in updating. So we ordered off the more limited paper menu that was distributed. We ate family style and ordered steak tartare, Brussels sprouts, French fries, shishito peppers, two prime rib (we cut them ourselves to avoid the $8 split entree fee each among us 8), crab cakes, mushrooms, beet and burrata salad, chocolate souffles and 2 bottles of Cab. The food was delightful and the ambiance was already festive for the holidays. The service was attentive in the beginning, but then the server changed midway without telling us, and then it slowed down considerably as more diners came during regular dinner hours. However slower he was, he made up for it by rolling out four towering strawberry shortcake squares with candles on top! There's $7 parking across the street on Poppy. I am not one to write reviews Good or bad on a dining experience but this place deserves one. Both my husband and I have dined at many great restaurants both here and overseas we dine out every weekend and decided to give FIve Crowns a shot for his Birthday this year. When walking into the restaurant it's both quaint and typically English. Made up of segmented rooms some being a bit dark. We decided on the indoor patio room with skylight which is pretty and perfect for pictures for that special occasion like my hubby's birthday. We were greeted by Carly who was nice enough until she kept coming over frequently to take our order after we told her we would like to enjoy our first drink then would order. Birthday boy decided on the 16oz rin eye steak which came prepared more on the well done side than medium and was not the best cut of meat for 76 dollars. I decided on the Branzino filet after was told the lamb had a planko herb crust so being gluten free was not an option. The rather smaller filet came prepared with cooked cherry tomatoes piled high on top of the fish which I have never really had prepared that way before and have had many times at other restaurants. First bite was so overly peppered all you tasted was pepper and tomatoes. It was terrible so sent back and as an alternative I tried the 8oz filet medium rare which really after eating at steak houses like Ruth chris, flemings and Mortons this did not even come close. Next came out the traditional English trifle which was nothing close to being traditional. I grew up eating trifle as an Aussie with an English born father. My hubby was not impressed and decided on the Sundae with chocolate sauce that also was not great. In closing food was neither cooked well prepared or presented to our liking and would not recommend this restaurant at all. Went for Valentine's Day had an 8:45 reservation and they were running a bit behind, no worries went and hung out at the bar and had a drink and shortly thereafter we were taken to our seats. The restaurant has an old cozy tavern feel which I loved. We have been wanting to go there for a long time but never made it over till the other day and it did not disappoint. Service was great and on point! We had their Valentine pre-fix menu and we chose the lobster bisque and it was so good I wanted more. We also ordered their Caesar salad small for the price but delicious nonetheless and for our entrees the prime rib with mashed potatoes and cream corned. Five Crowns is located conveniently off of E Coast Highway in Corona Del Mar. Parking is close across the street but you may be able to park for free on E coast highway also. The restaurant posts a warm English cottage atmosphere. Fireplaces abound gives that feeling of comfort on a cold rainy day when I showed up. It's a high end restaurant with higher prices but the food was worth the cost. They specialize is prime rib with about 4 different size cuts. Our waiter was excellent giving us options and opinions on what to get. With the prime rib they give you a good amount of au jus and what they called horseradish. The only downside side was the horseradish wasn't really strong but was sweet and not great for my taste buds. The French onion soup was exactly what you want with plenty of baked cheese (almost a dinner in itself). Beer list wasn't very big and they seemed to be out of some but they had specialty drinks and a good wine list. Neither of us had been to 5-Crowns in ages... like 25 years... We loved it! Our server was Shari (pronounced Sharrrrri... like sorry but with a Shar). She was great. When we were undecided on drinks, salads, and me on entrée, she guided us. We started with a classic, delicious Old Fashioned and a Feliz Navidad. I seldom order a tequila drink but the Feliz Navidad sounded and tasted delicious, and Shari recommended it-thanks Shari. Reposado tequila, pomegranate, GM, cinnamon honey. It sounded a bit sweet, but the other ingredients mellowed the tequila. We split a house signature salad which was called pride of crown, or similar. It had walnuts, gruyere cheese, croutons, on a lovely mixed greens and vinaigrette. We had just recently made wedge salads at home so we didn't opt for that one, although it looked good on other diners' plates. For entrees, he had a big prime rib, I don't recall which one but it was big and tasty. His sides were creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. It also came with Yorkshire pudding, au jus, and creamed horseradish; he was pleased with his choices and the quality. I had butternut squash risotto, with an added lobster tail. It was luscious and richer than I'm used to, which was good because it made me stop. For dessert, we had the Chocolate Soufflé. It was good, but not special. A couple things we weren't crazy about but that wouldn't stop us from going back... with wine by the glass, there's no price break when upgrading from 6 to 9 ozs. I understand the per oz pricing, but prices seemed to round up for 9 oz vs. down. Seems like it should work the other way... Where we were seated, there was a draft behind us, I believe coming from the bar. Just when we were about to ask to be reseated, the fan stopped. My hair was blowing from the draft, it was intermittently drafty; it wasn't good. I kept my coat on most of the night, which was a bit uncomfortable. Overall, we had a great dining experience. It finally took a private event to get me here... 'And I will definitely be back. However, I've browsed their online menu on several occasions and have yet to see meatloaf on the menu... 'Maybe it's seasonal or no longer offered? (Shrugs) I've been to the "Side Door," the other Five Crowns restaurant; a great little gastro pub. It's not Five Crowns, fancy fu-fu but it's reminiscent of an English pub; warm, friendly, with delicious food as well. Appetizers and drinks were served as the guests arrived. Well, it had to; we needed to wrap it up by a certain time. IMO - It made the sentimental, private gathering feel a tad rushed especially near the end. Last month, I was fortunate enough to attend an Elite Experience: Wild & Crazy Taco Night; Five Crowns/Side Door was on-site. They were serving up a delicious, tender, Beef Cheek Taco. I had the pleasure of meeting Matt Luna, Executive Chef, and Allison Robbins, Sale & Marketing Manager; along with the rest of the Five Crowns Team. It was a great event for a great cause. I've been wanting to eat here for years. Tonight it became a reality and it did not disappoint. I was invited for a business dinner with my co-workers and their customer (they actually needed a third wheel this time ). We had a room to ourselves with a fireplace. We were able to talk and hear other. I ordered the 5oz filet medium and wild sautéed mushrooms (I shared). The dinner was delicious!! Afterwards I had pistachio crème brûlée-two favorites combined.
