Hands down, best prime ribs in town. On par with Lawrys but less driving (if you're in oc, of course) and less pricey. I've tried the Henry VIII but that was way too much for me... too much for me even on the 1st day coming off my 1-month veggie diet. So unless you're really into large portion steaks... Anyway, the Crown cut is my go-to. Sometimes even the smaller California cut is enough. My choice of sides are always creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. Spinach is just creamy enough and the gravy goes perfect with the mashed potatoes. Also tried the lobster tail once but nothing special about it, recommend just going with steak. Generally love this place but last night's experience left a really bad taste in our mouth. Who thought it was a good idea trying to have two tables (that don't exist during the rest of the year) directly across from their wildly loud event space during the holiday season? We were initially sat at one of two of these tables that also happens to be right next to the kitchen. After being told the other open tables were "reserved" despite us having made our own reservations a month in advance, a manager came over and eventually moved us to one of the many open tables inside the dining room. Dinner was solid as usual and our server was great, but not sure we're going to come back after this experience despite coming here every year for a birthday celebration and the carolers. To top it off, we saw the poor hostess try to sit multiple other parties in this seat throughout our dinner who also declined. Returned back to Five Crowns. My wife and I both had the beef braised short ribs over parpardelle pasta. The portions were huge and we had to take half of our plates home. Could have used a little more wine sauce if that was used with the braising but otherwise it was fall of the fork good. We ordered two wedge salads and Brussel sprouts- both were good. We also ordered the chocolate soufflé that came with whip cream, it was good but much better with the vanilla ice cream we ordered. Coffee was good but was lukewarm. Wow so disappointing! It has been almost ten years since my last holiday dinner at the Five Crowns and probably my last. The decorations and carolers were on point but could not make up for the mediocre food and poor service. I do not mind spending for quality food and a good experience but they missed both marks. The Crown Cut in the past was a generous 1/2"+ piece of prime rib but what was delivered to the table was a very sad, thin piece of meat overwhelmed by the creamed spinach and the deflated, overcooked yorkshire pudding. Our other sides did not make it to the table until we were almost done but no matter, they were not worth the wait. The tiny dish of green beans had more garlic than beans and the mashed potatoes were dry and flavorless! The Jidori Chicken was passable but such an unappealing all beige plate of food. Other than the Pride of the Crowns salad, everything felt like a compromise to be endured so we could enjoy the carolers. Despite being seated right next to the service bar, drink delivery seemed to be a challenge. A martini we ordered sat languishing on the bar so I finally went up and asked the bartender if the drink was for our table. He seemed supremely annoyed that I interrupted his phone scrolling. The overall impression of the service was sloppy, uninterested, and not well trained in what should be fine dining. The only thing elevated about The Five Crown's these days are the prices. My wife, kids, and in-laws dined at Five Crowns on 01/04, and we had a delightful experience. We arrived early but we were seated somewhat promptly. (Make sure you have a reservation!) We sat in the main dining room and had a very cheery server. Wow! Nothing flustered her. It was a busy night, but she was cool, calm, and collected. The service was awesome. The food was incredible. Almost all of us got the prime rib, and it's what you would expect from Lawry's. The server was even so kind to offer fresh horseradish by itself as an addition to the cream-based version, and my father-in-law (who is a horseradish lover) loved it! The creamed corn was oh-so-amazing and went well with the meat and mashed potatoes. Yes, the price of the food here is on the pricier side. (I used a couple of Visa gift cards we received on Christmas to pay for some of our meal.) But don't let price deter you from this place, especially if it's for a special occasion. They will take great care of you at Five Crowns. You'll feel like you're walking into an old English dining establishment, with cushy chairs, fires roaring in the fireplaces, and dimmed lighting to set the impeccable mood. read more

Lawry's quality in Newport Beach. Every time I'm in Corona Del Mar I would pass by Five Crowns and think of Bravo's The Real Housewives of Orange County and Fox's The O.C. No matter what your conception of OC is, Five Crowns is a classic and I finally got a chance to eat here thanks to Orange County Restaurant Week. The OC Restaurant Week's menu featured a lot of Five Crowns' greatest hits, but honestly I was surprised at how concise the regular menu was... I guess that means they know what they're doing and want to keep things efficient. You'd be a fool to go to Five Crowns and NOT order the Prime Rib; the OC Restaurant Week special was a California Cut (6 ounces) but we weren't going to drive all the way down to Corona Del Mar just to be basic. We got the 10 ounce Crown Cut for $9 more and made a proper meal out if it! Besides the size of the cut, the Orange County Restaurant Week dinner special is a good deal and a fine way to experience Five Crowns for the first time. For $60 you get an appetizer, an entree, and your choice of dessert. To start I picked the Shrimp Corn & Jalapeño Fritters served with a remoulade sauce, a special item not on their regular menu that I would definitely recommend over the Pride of the Crowns Salad or the Green Garlic & Pea Soup. As I mentioned before, if given the choice between Roasted Prime Ribs of Beef, Crispy Skatewing, Smoked Mary's Chicken, or Roasted Cauliflower Steak, it's a no brainer... especially when you can spring for a 10 oz. Crown Cut for nine dollars! But how was the meat quality? I consider myself a connoisseur of Prime Rib, having devoured the Cadillac of beef preparations from Coast to Coast, consuming countless restaurant and home cooked variations, as well as having done a few roasts myself for the Winter holidays. For my money, I don't think there's a restaurant that does Prime Rib better in OC than Five Crowns... and yes, that includes Summit House and Gulliver's. The meat quality simply can't be beat and there's just something about the Lawry's family of restaurants where you know everything will be top knotch. The Orange County Restaurant Week deal comes with your choice of C.C. Brown's Hot Fudge Sundae, Peach Tart, and Valrhona Molten Lava Cake. The C.C. Brown's Hot Fudge Sundae is a classic that I've never had before so that was my pick; the toasted almonds and whipped cream were a nice complement to the vanilla ice cream, with the fudge so thick and decadent, it ended up solidifying with every scoop. Definitely a fun dessert if you like to mix hot and cold textures. All in all, from service to food quality to overall ambience, Five Crowns is that picture perfect Old OC classic that really stands the test of time and the Restaurant Week deal is a great way to sample the menu and decide if return trips are in order. If you love Prime Rib, you have to give Five Crowns a try... it's clearly the gold standard for me in OC. read more

We were trying to avoid the Valentine's Day crowd so we decided to rent the whole section of the Green House. Just kidding, that would probably cost us our 6 months mortgage. hehehe Me and my hubby went there on a Monday night a week before Valentine's Day. I've seen the Green House section where the roof and the wall are glass. I wanted to dine there only. However, that night, it was closed. I felt sad. I told the hostess that the Green House was one of the reasons why I wanted to dine there. Luckily, she made it happen and we sat and enjoyed the Green House for ourselves. The lights were dimmed as they were not meant to be open which actually made the place very romantic. Our server was a bit embarrassed that the Green House (lights) was not ready but he kept his cool and gave us the best service. I didn't get a hint of any stress from him even though we were the only patrons in that area and it was out of his way. I was taking lots of pictures and videos and he waited patiently. I don't really eat meat (I'm a flexible pescatarian) but based on my husband, he said that the prime rib there was delicious. I had lobsters and it tasted fresh and yummy. We ordered the creamed spinach and corn as the sides but they were a bit small in portion size. I truly appreciated that the hostess made it possible for us to dine at the Green House. Was really looking forward to a recent dinner at Five Crowns and ended up incredibly disappointed: 1 - Sat in a TENT with cold air gaps after making a reservation. 2 - Slow service on account of being one of only three tables in this faraway area. 3 - Cold Prime Rib and sides but piping hot mac and cheese which makes me think our food sat in the window for an extended time. 4 - Waited so long after our plates were cleared for the dessert menu that we wanted to leave. But the worst part for us was that we left a thoughtful review about our experience in Open Table and received a response that seemed to be from a BOT. We went to Five Crowns during Christmas time, and I'm just getting around to writing this review now. Christmas at Five Crowns is magical. The minute you walk in, you see all of the sparkling white lights and Christmas tree. Their restaurant is attached to Side Door, and they are both very cozy and quaint restaurants. Valet parking is available across the street, or you can find street parking. We made reservations on Open Table a few weeks in advance. When we arrived, we were seated right away. Service was spectacular in the beginning, but quickly went downhill after our food arrived. I'm not sure why that is, but our main server went MIA for a long time, and no one stepped in to take her place. We had to wave other servers down when we needed something. For that reason, I'm dropping this review from 4 stars to 3. My husband & I both ordered the Crown Cut prime rib for $46. It comes with Yorkshire pudding, horseradish and your choice of 2 sides. I got the creamed corn and the potatoes au gratin. The prime rib was good, but I've had better (and cheaper with better quality). The prime ribs are actually from Lawry's, so you'd think it would be better. My overall feeling is that it's overpriced for what you get. I would probably not return anytime soon, only because there are so many other restaurants in OC within that price range that are better in taste and overall value. read more

After passing by this place so many times, we decided to celebrate my sister's birthday and chose the set menu where we picked out appetizers, main course , and dessert. We all got the lobster bisque which was rich and delicious. When the prime rib came, however, we all felt that it was way way too rich and not as much flavor as we'd like. Lastly, the crème brûlée was so terrible! The custard was so thick, not smooth like how it's supposed to be. Overall, this place fell below our expectations. One star was for the delicious old fashioned, and the other star was for our amazing server (I forgot her name), but she always checked up on us and made sure our waters were filled. For our 55th Wedding Anniversary we decided to splurge and have dinner here for the first time. The server Mark was very helpful and attentive. High marks here already! We both had the Prime Rib. I had the 6 oz. and Don had a larger piece, an end cut. It was delicious. My medium rare was just that and his medium exactly the way he likes his beef. Valet parking available for $8 located conveniently across the street, with the main entrance that has a ramp available to the front door and there you will step into Five Crowns to have your royal dinner. I have been here before to the 2nd floor to a friend's 40th birthday party in 2018. We had a reservation for 5 people at 4:30 pm on 5/7/2023 and were seated at table 11 which was a great booth to accommodate our party comfortably, fit for a King or Queen. We had a toddler with us and he recieved a kids menu that was a coloring page and included a set of 4 primary color crayons. We started with appetizers: crispy calamari and bone marrow (from Side Door). Both were delicious starters to our meal along with the complimentary dinner rolls with unsalted whipped butter and salt on the side. My son had the crispy chicken fingers with french fries ($13) and I ordered the Surf & Turf meal (savings of $14) which came with a salad, lobster tail, California cut of prime rib that came with a choice of 2 sides which I chose creamed corn & creamed spinach. I chose my prime rib to be cooked medium well and put the au jous and horseradish on top as well as the Lawry's seasonings available on my table. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate souffle which took 20 minutes to prepare and because we were celebrating my son's birthday, he received a complimentary strawberry cake. Our server, Sarah, was helpful & friendly and even the hostess was nice enough to humor my son by giving him a small bag of goodies to play with. I highly recommend this restaurant if you love prime rib and if not, know that there are other entrees available. This is also great for the holiday season in December when they have carolers to sing Christmas songs. Also, you can make reservations at least 30 days in advance. The women's restroom is located in the bar area of Five Crowns and the men's restroom is located in the bar area of Side Door. As a Lawry VIP member, I received a complimentary bottle of Lawry's Seasoned Salt and $25 towards my next meal. We came here for mother's day dinner on the Saturday before Mother's day Sunday and omg... i'm so glad we made a trip down here! Mom used to come here all the time with her parents so we decided to take her and auntie for a small trip down the ocean area for a nice dinner. We have a party of 4 and made reservation in advance, it's an early dinner and the sun is still out so it's very nice to sit outside. The staffs are nice and friendly and I'm confident to say that Shelley might have delivered the most amazing dining experience I've ever encountered in a restaurant and we are so lucky to have her! We got the crab cake and the prime rib chili cheese fries (from the bar menu) as appetizers, mom and auntie also got lobster bisque and caesar salad (the salad is super yum!). The prime rib chili cheese fries is the surprise gem for me... it's very tasty and good for sharing. We got two steaks and two prime ribs as entrees and ordered the dark chocolate soufflé and the rhubarb tart as shared desserts. Everything was all very yummy and I have to say... i'm most amazed by the rhubarb tart!!! Had my company holiday party here and it was quite the experience! They even created a dance floor using a covered tent, but you couldn't even tell because the setup appeared quite seamless through decorations, so I kept thinking, this place was a lot bigger than I remembered. The evening started with cocktail hour, which you could order at the bar or by a floating server walking around. Once dinner service started, everything was as I remembered. The food was spectacular! I got the ribeye prime rib. My slice was attached to the bone, so the plate appeared a bit clunky with this massive bone. Sides came with yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. Server came by with au jus and horseradish cream - both are great! The best part of the evening were the carolers! They came around to each table and had a mini performance, so that was really fun to get into the spirit. For dessert, I chose the apple crumble and it was topped with a scoop of devonshire cream. At first, I thought it was a scoop of ice cream for how stiff it was, but it wasn't too sweet and complemented the spiced apples really nice. My fellow coworkers got the chocolate cake. I tried a piece and it was very rich! Good thing the slice was small, but I understand why most people may not finish it. Aside from a company holiday party, I can see myself returning here again. We went for dinner on a Friday night and the place was pretty packed even at 830pm. We ordered a bunch of appetizers- 2 crab cakes ($23 each), shrimp cocktail ($21), roasted beet salad ($15), both caesar salads ($14 & $17), shishito peppers ($8), grilled baby carrots with dill ($9), steak tartar ($18), a few manhattans and glasses of wine. Pretty much everything was bad. The crab cakes were really fishy and dry, shrimp cocktail was overcooked, salads were limp/overdressed, carrots were gross, and the Manhattans were much too sweet. The only dishes that were decent were the roasted beets and shishito peppers. The wine list was also really basic and generic. We were so horrified by the appetizers that we decided to call it a night and go eat entrees elsewhere. And even though we didn't make it to the entrees, we ended up spending $60pp and there were 5 of us (we didn't even all get more than 1 drink)? Totally ludicrous and repulsive meal. They give you a full side of it, so it makes sense. Potatoes and Mac were great! Yorkshire pudding I think was slightly burnt, but it was OK. For dessert they brought out a trifle on the house for my birthday, it just tasted like angel food cake with strawberry jam, not great. Incredibly disappointing for Mother's Day brunch. The menu was uninspiring, the food lackluster, bland and of poor quality. Your mimosas were served in a thimble size coupe and all was overpriced. On top of that the server was passive aggressive and unpleasant. We don't mind paying for beautiful food, a great experience, and top-notch service, but this was equal to having a steak at Denny's at best. As a business you can't just rely on being a Lawry's steakhouse and that you are based on an English-style dining experience. We love five crowns! Mostly because it was the perfect place for our wedding! We've never been here before we were looking here as a venue, but once we met the Resturant staff and ate there we loved it! The service is amazing, and even on our wedding day they were incredible. Everyone is so nice and polite and willing to help in any way. We rented the greenhouse, patio, and garden for our wedding ceremony and reception for 80 guests and it was perfect! We had a walk up bar where guests could order drinks, or staff would take our orders. They served a plated dinner and were very attentive. We really love their prime rib and sides (mashed potatoes, creamed corn or creamed spinach). Everyone said their dishes were delicious (vegetarian, Jidori chicken, or salmon) And the appetizers looked good as well! Also their cocktails are really good. They have a cocktail menu but they can pretty much make what you want. Also have beer and wine. And occasionally they have pliny the elder on tap! The decor is quite unique with an old English feel, but it makes the meal a whole experience. Can't miss it with the bright red five crowns sign. And there's valet next door for parking (since it's so hard in CDM to find parking). Through and through we love it here! read more

Owned by lawrys so expect mostly the same quality and menu items! They have various cuts, some bigger than others. There is a $13 split fee if you want to share an entree. Order your soufflé in advance because they take 20 minutes + to bake. Service here was great. Valet parking across the street for $6. Food was delicious. Prime rib was so buttery and soft, it just melted in my mouth. Creamed corn was nice and sweet. Their lobster bisque is great! I ordered the truffle fries but I wouldn't recommend them. Pro tip: order the biggest portion of meat and split it with someone else! More bang for your buck! read more

I returned after a great experience in 2019. Here's how it went down, parking was convenient, which is always a plus. Next, the hostess was lovely and politely greeted us. We were then quickly seated and the waitress took our order. We ordered the sea bass, dry aged rib eye medium well, asparagus, & cream corn. The sea bass was over cooked & dry, meanwhile the rib eye was undercooked & medium rare. Yes I like my steak more on the well done side and if I'm paying for it then it should be cooked as requested. We also ordered cream corn as an appetizer but it came with the rest of our order. Not sure what happened here, perhaps a new chef?? Our server only spoke to us twice, once, to place the order and when handing us the check. Unfortunately we won't be returning, y'all gotta do better. read more
