Had dinner a few days ago since we haven't been to five guys for over a year or so. My aunt been wanting to try it so we did. The place was empty as we walked in around 7pm. We order cheese burgers with everything on it with fries and shake! The food arrived pretty quick. 2 of the burgers were intact as we unwrapped, however my aunts burger was just sloppy after she took one bite. Her burger fell apart and mushy, she can't hold the burger together. Our burgers were ok but the taste was just not good. I don't recall their burgers taste so bland or perhaps it's been way too long that I dot recall. As for my aunt she got a replacement burger without anything on it this time to avoid the patty falling apart. The fries wasn't good either - semi burnt and soft. Larger than some other Five Guys locations this place has a spacious dining area and lots of big windows and light. A young, cheerful staff makes for a good experience but there are lots of other restaurants in this area that gives this place competition. The Alameda Five guys is cramped. Very small it was stuffed into the last corner of a strip mall... not here. Very spacious. Ambiance is great, ceilings are higher and for whatever reason the lighting was so much better - I think because most of it comes from a natural source. Music level was at a perfect volume too - unlike the Alameda location where the high volume scared me away for half a year. I guess I'm getting old. Three guys working there were just top notch. Quick to take orders, call numbers and do everything with a smile just right. Very pleasant crew there 6/20/17 at 8pm. Dining room clean, bathroom smelled like fresh flowers and I went through absolutely no trauma as I did on numerous occasion at Steak N Shake in Daily City. Burger was delicious and juicy. Cooked to my liking and prepared exactly to order. Bacon, lettuce, pickles, tomato, grilled onions, mushrooms, ketchup and mustard. Came in a plain brown paper bag just like your home lunch may have come years ago. Also wrapped in foil and with the same square napkins you probably have at home. Nice touch. There is lots of competition around this area for good restaurants, even at a price point just slightly higher than here that have more options on the menu - hence 4/5 stars. read more

Okay I'm being super generous but 3 stars. First off, I think I got my hopes up because of all the hype about this place. I went to see what the hype was about and ended up disappointed... I ordered a cheeseburger ($5.69) and a regular drink ($1.89) which was a total of $8.32. This didn't include fries which were about $2 and some change more. Any burger item on the menu with the word "Little" in front of the name comes with only 1 meat patty. Everything else has 2 meat patties. The toppings were free but if you think about it, the price you pay for the burger covers the toppings regardless if you want them or not. I decided to order my cheeseburger and told the cashier I wanted everything (also called all the way) on it. My friend ordered a little bacon cheeseburger for $4.99 so I could compare the size of one meat patty vs two meat patties. I filled up my cup with Cherry Coke and maybe it was the machine I used (the left one) but it was flavorless. It was almost like drinking colored carbonated water but with like a tiny taste or something. Later, I dumped it out and got regular Coke but that, too, didn't taste like Coke. There were a lot of seats and tables so finding a seat won't be a problem unless you come at a busy time (probably). Next came the wait for our orders. We waited awhile because there were orders from other people before us. They didn't have any microphone to call out the numbers of the orders; instead, the guy was "yelling" out the numbers, but I didn't think it was loud enough. They had free peanuts to eat as well but I don't think I saw a lot of people grab some. I guess peanuts, burgers, and fries don't mix with each other. Apparently, everybody will get their orders in a brown paper bags. The burger was wrapped in tin foil and the burger looked pretty big while it was wrapped. My friend opened the tin foil to find his burger looking very sloppy as if the employees had a little too much fun making his burger since it was "all the way." My burger was better... The burger was just okay but the buns were ehhh.... soggy. The bottom bun was soggy while the top was okay. As I ate, the meat and toppings fell out. The meat and everything were okay and really nothing special. I ate the remains with a fork and it seemed to taste better because there was no bun. I felt that the buns weren't complementing the burger like how other burger places do. Who knows? It might have been just my burger with the soggy buns. The "Regular" burgers at Five Guys have 2 patties. The "Little" burgers have just one. The patties are bigger than In-n-Out with prices to match. Ordered the Cheeseburger "All the Way" (Mayo, Relish, Lettuce, Pickles, Tomatoes, Grilled Onions, Grilled Mushrooms, Ketchup, Mustard. $5.69) They have additional toppings like jalepenos, A-1 steak sauce, bbq sauce, green peppers, and hot sauce. All toppings (except cheese & bacon) are free. Also got the regular size Cajun Fries ($2.59. same price as non-Cajun) and regular soda ($1.89). Total of $11.17 with tax. I thought it was odd that they don't ask "Here or to go" and everyone gets their stuff in a brown paper bag. I ripped that open to get to the burger at the bottom because the top was filled with fries. The regular size fries is pretty big. They proudly proclaim that they cook their patties "Well Done" for consistency and flavor so I was pleasantly surprised that the patties weren't overcooked, dry pucks of meat. Not the juiciest, but decent. They hand form their patties which probably explains the pieces of meat falling off the edges that I mentioned before. I wasn't a fan of the bun. It was toasted and held up well to all the wet toppings, but it was kinda dense and dry (non-juiced parts). The texture reminded me of Safeway's Artisan Split Crust rolls which I absolutely despise. Okay I finally gave them another shot after many years. Not so much because I hated them, but my frequency of eating chain fast food has dwindled to about 3-4/year. And when In & Out is in the equation, there often just isn't a whole lot of room for much else. So my past opinions of this place was based on a burger here that simply had too many toppings on it. You can actually just say 2 words "everything burger" and it will appear. To simplify a burger, you actually need to tell them exactly what you want. So this is where I messed up in the past, because I didn't want to spend too much time on the ordering process. Simple burgers (3 toppings or so) are where it is at! First off, since I've last been here, the prices have gone up. According to my o.g. review, I was able to get a "meal" (burger/fries/drink) for around $10 back in the day. Now it is around $15, which is a lot more than In & Out. But for that $15, there is significantly more food here than at In & Out. I would split the fries with somebody because it is simply too much for one person (it comes in a paper cup like popcorn from a theatre). And if eating on my own, I'm not sure if I would use this place as an option. The Burger: The patty here is pretty hefty. At least a third pound, and my friend felt it was a half pound. Way bigger/heavier than In & Outs double. It was juicy and tasted pretty fresh. It was even seasoned this time. I'm giving them more credit now than I did initially. The Cheese: They still don't fully melt the cheese. So it has the texture of Kraft American Singles. Which is fine if you're 7 years old. Pass for moi. The Fries: Top notch. Since I don't do commercial fast food as often, I've lost the taste for their fries. I like simple real potatoes. And that is what they do here. Real potatoes fried in Peanut Oil which is the best oil to use IMO. Even if it is not that crisp, the essence of potato satisfies me. And they have malt vinegar, where I can turn their "fries" into English "chips", which I'm a fan of. Top notch! Also tried a Hot Dog here cuz it is listed as a Kosher dog. But very skippable as it was really salty and not really elevated. At least now I know. Now that I know more of the digs here at 5 Guys, I'm sure I'll share and use you for my quarterly fast food burger splurge. And to make that list, you have to be pretty legit. So I did not realize that Five Guys made veggie cheese sandwiches!!! It's basically a burger without the patty, and it's good! The little order of Cajun fries is actually not "little" at all! It's always a very generous serving! Picking up from here is really easy, and they always make the milkshakes fresh when you arrive to pick up, which I really appreciate. I finally got a chance to stop into five guys after hearing many reviews and hype about this place. Maybe I was expecting tooo much because of what people have said but I wasn't totally WOWed by it. It just tasted like any ol burger joint to me. The plus about this place were any additional toppings were free. There's the mayo, lettuce, grilled onions, raw onions, but they also have extras like mushrooms, green peppers, jalapeno peppers, relish and others. I was surprised that none of these toppings were additional charge. There was also a box of peanuts with the paperboats next to them. While you wait for your food you can scoop up a boat of peanuts to munch on (however, i thought it was strange that it was located right next to/on top of the garbage can). As soon as you walk into this place you smell the deep fried oil quite strongly. (You also leave smelling like the place) It was also fairly stuffy in there. It was crowded and hard to find seats, but it's a saturday afternoon and to be expected. I ordered the "little hamburger" but there was nothing litle about it, it was quite filling. I think the only difference between the little and the regular is the regular has an extra patty. I also ordered regular cajun fries. My cup was full AND it looked like they threw in an extra handful into my bag. LOTS of fries. I wouldn't mind coming back here, it is not one of my favorites but it wasn't bad. read more

Short Story: Five Guys make the best burgers...not so much on the fries. Long Story: I came here on a Thursday night and was warmly greeted as soon as I entered the door. It's their protocol to announce to their staff when someone enters. As I approached the counter the employee greeted me and asked if I had been to Five Guys before. I ordered my usual burger with extra toppings. They are quite generous with the toppings and I their burgers are cooked well. It's a fast food place so you can't really rate them on service, ambiance, and decor. What I can say is that their staff are friendly and the place is clean. Since I was already inside the store, I was hoping the portion is bigger and taste much better than a whopper or in n out. Drinks spilled on the floor, dirty tables, the condiment area was not clean. This is the food service people! Clean it up. I LOVE Five Guys! It's my favorite thing to eat when I'm craving a burger, especially after a really intense workout. However, I've been to this location twice and they've messed up my order each time. Sometimes they forgot onions or something small, no big deal for me. However, the most recent time, my cousin and I each ordered burgers and they made two of her order and none of mines. The employees were very apologetic and tossed the burger and made me a fresh one, which is fine and all, but it wasn't even a crowded day. Only two people had ordered before us and there were only about 2 orders behind us. Mind you, we came in on a weekday afternoon at around 2 PM. The food tastes great and is consistently good, but I'm really tired of getting the wrong order. It just becomes a hassle after a while, especially when they make big mistakes. Here is my favorite fact taken direct from their company website: "There are no freezers in Five Guy locations, just coolers. Nothing is ever frozen." Yeah those fatty little burgers are juicy, and nice little slippers to wear into the mouth. I'm a lettuce and tomato guy, and the ones on these burgers never disappoint. The French Fries are too salty, but there's a little skin on them and they are on the fatter side. I finish them regardless. I also like the Milk Shakes a lot, they got more than just three flavors. And there are complimentary shell peanuts for the heck of it. These badass menu items are a good guilty pleasure, the lot of it. So... Here is my favorite opinion taken direct from my own brain, btw: My lips are always a little salty afterwards, my tongue the flavor of rawhide. WOW! it opened today and of course i was there to finally experience this east coast burger. it was awesome and is truly so much better than any in n out burger i have ever had. it's no no val's burgers but it's damn good for a well done burger! i took my dad and he's very picky but he loved it and even compared it to a val's. Oh Five Guys how much I love you! I've already been to other locations and this one is just as good! You enter and you order by first choosing an option (burger, cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger, etc) then you tell them what toppings you want (lettuce, mayo, mushrooms, etc) and chose fries and a drink! It's so simple and I REALLY appreciate the option of the customer telling them what toppings. From a picky eater I hate having to omit a long list of topping I don't want so this is great! The burger itself is DELICIOUS! It's very juicy( they have 2 patties) and the meat just tastes fresh and is cooked to perfection! I also ordered a milkshake and it was thick and frothy very good also! They give you a ton of fries in your bag and they're also very fresh tasting! I've been meaning to pass by Five Guys ever since it's opening and I didn't get the chance until today after passing by Fremont. It's been over a year that I've had Five guys in Jersey so the only thing I remember is how delicious the cajun fries were, free peanuts, and how much i liked their burgers with all the free toppings. The exact thing held true to this West Coast Five Guys Branch now! I do give them props with these stars because: 1. FREE UNLIMITED PEANUTS 2. FREE UNLIMITED REFILLS 3. FREE UNLIMITED TOPPINGS on your burger 4. REGULAR BURGERS include 2 patties 5. Hot Dogs 6. Veggie burgers available on the menu while In 'N Out is a off the menu item. In those departments, Five Guys beats In 'N Out Burgers. For the price of $5, you get a double beef patty, which will stuff you like no other. More toppings added, the more stuffed you will get! Any sauce can be included also. The Cajun fries didn't taste as marvelous as it did the last time I tried it. Maybe a little crunchier will do the trick since it was soggy at some parts. I definitely enjoyed it though. The burger itself, I was basically eating a double double. More than what I expected! The beef felt light though compared to other burger joints! I finally joined the band wagon and decided to trek out in Fremont to try this joint and I'm so glad that I finally did! It was a Monday night so my anticipating of it being packed... was thankfully gone! I ordered a cheeseburger with grilled mushrooms and ketchup... and shared a regular fries... I also tried the peanuts as appetizers... it was interesting. I actually quite enjoyed it! Food came... first bite: wow. Delicious. The burger patties were seasoned and cooked well. It wasn't overcooked or undercooked... just made right. The grilled mushrooms was a nice touch... Regular size fries are just enough for two people. I didn't do the Cajun b/c of the spicy effect but I was happy with the regular as well. I honestly thought it was all hyped up but if you're feeling like a good decent burger together with customizing it ... this is definitely a good spot ... and good for your wallet. I'm pretty sure you're health will hate it but if you go to the gym the next day, you'll be fine! That's what I did! I have been trying to go to this Five Guys for a while but i usually am driving a 53Ft truck . But I got called into work the night before and had to take a run to Sacramento and got off at 6am. So my boss hooked me up with a later start time and covered my first route for me. So I got to Dead Head down to San Jose. So I rolled to Five Guys and and Fries for Lunch. I wandered in and there was no line LOL. So I rolled up to the Counter and ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger with the works and Jalapeno Peppers and Grilled Onions . Cajun Fries and a small Coke. 7 Minutes later I had an awesome tasting Burger that was huge and a bag full of spicy Cajun fries. Yummy. I'm a fan. Oh, Five Guys.. I've heard such lovely things about you, but I must've come on a major downer day. Or perhaps this location is glitchy (maybe they were understaffed, as I saw a hiring sign in the window?), in which case I'm open to giving another location a try. I don't know if this is true for all locations, but the first thing I noticed upon walking in was how harsh the fluorescent lighting is.. it's just something about the combination of white linoleum, cold concrete, and fluorescent lighting that makes me feel like I'm stepping into a jail cell or interrogation room, and neither of those places makes for a pleasant dining experience. There were also more dirty tables than clean, as it didn't seem like there was enough waitstaff to come around and clean the tables promptly. I ended up having to grab napkins and wipe down a table myself so that my friends and I could sit down. Service was fine as far as ordering goes, since it's hard to mess up cashier ordering. The orders took seemingly forever to come out though, and there was a large gap of fifteen minutes or so between a few of our orders, so that by the time we all got our food, the first person's was already lukewarm (even with the paper bag and foil). My brother was raving about this place how they are way better than In N Out. I was really skeptical since I thought InNOut is as good as they come. Five Guys is located in the Pacific Common where Quinzos and Starbucks used to be. When you first walked into Five Guys they basically show off their fresh working materials. There were some sacks of potatoes along the queuing. While looking at the overhead menu, I noticed that there wasn't any value combinations. Everything on the menu has to be ordered individually which adds up the cost and was definitely more pricey than InNOut. I had ordered the hamburger with everything, large regular fries, and regular soda. Receiving the food is really interesting also. It not really a green way of distributing the food since it produce more garbage than necessary. Everyone had gotten their food in a goto doggy bag, there is no option for getting your food on a reusable tray. Despite the fact that I asked my burger to have everything on it, the burger was in a very decent size to bite into. Also surprising, the regular size burgers are two meat patties, I later found out that the little size are 1 patty burgers. The meat patties were definitely legit. They looked like freshly minced meat before it hit the grill. The burger was very good it came together really well but I didn't like how they foil package sealed the whole burger rendering the bun a slightly wet and maybe soggy from the condensation. I really wished that they toasted the buns a bit. The fries were definitely better than InNOut. The fries were a lot thicker and meatier. I totally forgot to ask for the fries to be kicked up with some of that cajun spice. Five Guys were super generous with the fries that I thought I can refill my large cup of fries again from what was spilled into my paper bag. So what it my verdict?--- Five Guys Fries are better than In N Out Fries. Look at these pictures and tell me it doesn't make your mouth water! Bigger burgers, double patties, extra condiments free of charge! I'm not crazy about the fries and if you're allergic to peanuts, then stay away from them (I think they use peanut oil). Five Guys - welcome to the WEST COAST! 8 hours after exposure and I'm still sweatin' grease. I'm a sucker for grand openings, despite my unpleasant past experiences. There's a thrill in being among the firsts to try something new. I bought in to the hype about the East Coast's master of burgers invading the Bay Area and decided to check it out on opening day. Needless to say, a return back to Five Guys will be the end of me. Arriving around 1:30pm, we were able to avoid the massive lunch rush and stood in line of about 6 deep. The clerks were quick and efficient in taking orders and did a good job listening to how each hungry patron customized their burger with the free toppings (choice of mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, relish, jalapenos, green peppers, A-1 sauce, BBQ sauce, hot sauce). I kept my cheeseburger simple with just mayo & hot sauce while my beastly brother slapped everything onto his. After forking out a hurtful $28 for 2 burgers, 1 hotdog, 1 large cup of cajun fries, & 3 sodas, we sat and waited for what we were all hoping to be a spectacular meal. My eyes bulged out of their sockets when they finally called our number and all I saw was a brown paper bag, soaked beyond transparency with grease from the cajun fries. Little did I know, what was waiting for me inside my foil wrapped burger was much more dreadful - 2 beef patties pancaking a thick slice of cheese, smothered with a massive dose of mayo & hot sauce oozing out from every end. Oh my poor little arteries!! They were not prepared for this battle. I heard their painful shrieks with every bite: "Please don't clog meeee!!" Sorry babies, mama didn't want to waste her $5.59 burger. I think for the price, I'd rather eat at the local sit down diner like Val's or Nation's for a burger with higher quality ingredients and fresher meat. Not everybody likes a well-done patty or soggy buns. I have to admit, the cajun fries were bomb, but please ease up on the salt a bit. The soda fountain was running low on syrup as well, but I was kind enough to notify the managers and they fixed it right away. It's going to take some time to recover, but I think Five Guys has left me scarred with fear. Not sure if I want to re-encounter downing that much grease ever again. read more

The second I walked in here, I thought I was at In and Out burger, because the designs on the wall look like an imitation of In and Out's. The lines here are really long, which isn't surprising since they have no drive through. But considering the large amount of business they get, they have a small amount of seating. Most of the seating is outside in the cold. The burgers, in my opinion, are 5 star. They have a large variety of toppings you can put on them. I basically got everything on mine and my burger came out fat!! I suggest that if you're going to get fries (which is a must) you might have to share it with a friend or two, because 1 small fries = 2 x-large fries from McDonalds. I broke my white meat streak with the this joint. Yummy! I had the little Cheese Burger with almost everything except the grilled onions and pickles! Fast order pleasant behind the counter lady and lots of space to sit inside and a couple of chairs outside. Free soda refills. The Little Cheese Burger was huge! Yelpers are so on the money with the fries. Portions are definitely bigger than any I've seen :) So we ordered the regular sized Cajun Style and still took some to the car with us to munch on.
