This is based on my first experience with Five Guys after hearing a LOT of recommendations from many friends and classmates. The burgers are sub-par at best to be honest. At first, i was excited considering the many toppings/ingredients they allowed you to put, which does seem amazing. I chose to add jalepenos, green peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, hot sauce, and grilled onions. when i got the $6.44 hamburger, i was disappointed. the size of the burger was fairly small and they scarcely put the ingredients i chose into it. Yes, it does have 2 patties and granted, they do taste much better than most fast food joints, but I could barely taste anything i put into it besides the lettuce and tomato. i had so few jalapenos and green peppers. All in all, their service is great considering how many burgers they have to make and serve so many people, but the burgers, for their price, is not worth it. You'd be better off going to a gourmet burger restaurant like Red Robins, where infinite fries are included and the burgers are actually worth the $6+. read more

Five Guys is certainly a good rival to In-N-Out and can see why they have a following. They focus on providing a quality product with their own twists. The decor is slightly retro diner-ish with loud music playing. There are numerous signs with quotes from complimentary reviews that Five Guys has received. I couldn't help but notice all the reviews came from areas in the U.S. that In-N-Out isn't...hmmmm. got peanut allergy? If so, stay far away from Five Guys because as soon as you walk in the door you're greeted with a large self-serve open box of roasted peanuts gratis for all to enjoy, and it seems like nearly everyone takes advantage. For the uninitiated, the little hamburger is a good sized single, and the hamburger is a double. Customization is the name of the game, besides the standard toppings and condiments you can also add lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushroom, jalapenos, green peppers, A1 steak sauce, BBQ sauce, hot sauce, and even extra cheese free of charge! My Bacon Cheeseburger was nicely prepared, hot and juicy, and the bacon was nice and crisp, but while overall it was good, it did not fall into my cravable category. The french fries are a different story; they are VERY good and the portions are huge! I swear there was as much fries in the bottom of the bag as there was in the cup - a regular order is plenty. We liked the Five Guys style fries too, but especially enjoyed the Cajun style fries. On paper, everything pointed that I would love Five Guys, but in reality I'll frequent In-N-Out much more often. It could also be that with all the different condiments, and only two visits under my belt, I haven't found my magical combo. I still don't see how Five Guys is supposed to be the East Coast equivalent to In-N-Out? Like, seriously? Are we all eating at the same restaurant here? I'm not saying that the food was BAD. Red/White color scheme, similar cooking style. How can you NOT compare this place to In-N-Out? Was really looking forward to a nice, juicy burger with tons of flavor and going " all the way" with all the toppings my heart desires. However, that went down the drain once I bit into the burger. Didn't know that that " all the way" was code for lacking flavor or seasoning! The only thing that was seasoned were the cajun fries which I liked. Don't order the plain ones, they taste bland. Ive had fries cooked in peanut oil but it just has a weird aftertaste. The patty was fresh but unseasoned, the mushrooms and onions were sauteed but unseasoned. What is worse than a bad burger is no seasoning! The cool part about the place is the patio with the coverings so you can enjoy the beautiful weather. The staff is nice too but the food needs an upgrade. I ordered the small hamburger and cajun fries. Surprised why they don't offer combos. Close to spending 10 bucks for a drink, burger,fries. Take into consideration that there are college students down the street. Perhaps a burger happy hour? Save your bucks and go to either the Habit Grill or In-N-Out down the street. I ordered just the cheeseburger by itself. I love all the options you can get on the burger... FOR FREE! I love me some grilled mushrooms and onions on my burger :3 It got very messy, very fast but that's part of the experience (or maybe I'm making that up). As for the fries I tried from a friend, a little too salty for my taste, but other than that, they were well cooked with like the skin on it and such. The price I would say is fair (except for the 60 cents difference between the hamburger and the cheeseburger. 60 cents for a slice of cheese! It wasn't even melted into the burger!). The service here is on point! There was one person working when we walked in and was very patient and had a great sense of humor! I haven't been here in a while so I got a Jr Cheeseburger and it was just as good as I remembered. The Cajun fries, they give you a lot.. I ordered the medium thinking it would just be whatever is in the cup... Nope! it is what's in the cup plus 2x more in the bag. Very generous with portions here. I can't really say I'm much of a fan of this place, knowing that I can consume over 2000 calories in one meal consisting of a giant burger, fries, and a refillable drink. Nevertheless, I had to try! Bacon Cheeseburger with loads of toppings, Cajun fries, and a drink. My first impression... the meat is good. The fries are good, and the drink is just a drink. But really...? It reminds me very much of an IN & OUT burger with extra toppings. Now, I know this is slightly better in quality, but not enough to justify all the extra cost that is put into it. It's probably the best burger though, in fast food that I can think of, since In & Out would've been my choice for best fast food burger prior. However, it's nothing like a Fuddruckers or REAL hamburgers that my friends grill in our backyard grill. Worth the calories? Worth the money? At FIVE GUYS, I struggle to answer these questions. The food is good and filling, but you're gonna be FAT much faster than you'll realize if you eat this every week, or even every month depending on how much of it you can burn. Until I lose a lot more weight and save a lot more money, I don't think I'll be back anytime soon... but if they don't close down, I definitely will come back for a much SMALLER burger. Had been hearing a bit about this place for months...including the similarities to IN-N-OUT. The other day i finally found myself in a position to compare (plus, i was hungry). First, huge bags of potatoes littered the floor, stacked a few deep for effect like sand bags in a trench war. Nice touch. If a nearby bank robbery goes awry i can dive behind these for safety. The menu is fairly simple and straight-forward: they do burgers, dogs, sandwiches and fries...but NOT shakes. They ALSO have a boatload of stuff you can have on your burger. Including: green or jalapeno peppers, BBQ sauce, A-1 sauce, and hot sauce. However, they DO have free peanuts - like at a baseball game or a sports bar. The thing is: the TASTE. For a fast-food burger, these things ARE a bit better than an In-n-Out (and yes, i'm surprised to find myself admitting that, cuz i consider myself an In-n-Out fan). I wish i could've had a shake with my bacon-cheese burger...but the burger alone with a soda and fries was definitely a hunger-buster. The stuff they put on these burgers (including the mushrooms!), definitely made a believer out of me. ...and the fries! Like Carl's and JitB, they sport the kind with the skin still on. a small 'cup' of fries was overflowing so much, despite having a hunger (having not eaten for over 6-hours), i found i couldn't eat them all (which is probably a good thing for my waistline). They even offer something for the Veg-heads in the crowd: Veggie Sandwich, Cheese Veggie Sandwich, Grilled Cheese. i noticed that the place was very clean and the staff is friendly, helpful and most always smiling. This place is "Blah" with a capital "B". Far from worth going out of your way. The music over the intercom was so loud I couldn't hear the teller communicate with me, I had to tip my ear into her and listen very closely. The place had no line but the wait was still about 15 minutes from order to actually pick up my food. And why don't they give out trays? It was all in a paper bag, the burger was thrown in there sideways on the bottom and 20% of the fries weren't even in the cup; spent a considerable time just picking them out. The food itself is ok, but it's far from worth the $9 without a drink. And no, they don't serve Sierra Mist or any other soda that does not have HFCS in it. That was the reason I did not buy a soda, they might want to re-evaluate who they're being supplied by. A bottomless fry with a double-burger that kinda filled me up but not really, honestly the fries bored me halfway through and the burger was just blah. It was definitely not to my expectations, I could have gone for another one. The place also just had this smug feeling to it that you can really only expect from 40-ish middle/upper-class white people when they go out to eat. There's a sign that says "Please do not go outside on the patio with peanuts due to persons with allergies" but people seemed to disregard this - again, most likely due to smug arrogant white people and their attitudes of always needing to have it their way with their sense of entitlement. Far too many conservative white people here and they all have a staring problem. Im serious too, the place had more interesting wallpaper then the customers they were serving. I found myself eating the burger as fast as I can just to stop the mess that was occurring while the burger was falling apart. I ended up using a fork.....a first for me when eating a burger. I feel this is one of the best hamburger "joints" around. Here you can get a old fashioned burger with our without cheese. The only thing that sets it apart from a truly old fashioned burger is you get two patties instead of one. You get to choose your extras, ie: lettuce, tomato, mushroom, grilled onion, mustard & ketchup. The fries are great, not the hard hallow tubes of potato starch. These are the hand cut types nice and soft on the inside. Plus they have the neatest soda dispenser, it can deliver up to 150 different flavors. It is so cool it has all these different flavors you can add to the standard ones. You can have cherry vanilla diet coke or raspberry sprite and they have the most diet sodas even diet ginger ale. To top it off you can shell and eat all the peanuts you want. I just wish they had one in Honolulu. read more

I went to five guys a couple times to write this review. The core of my review is going to be comparing it to In-N-Out. In-in-out is better. I usually order the Bacon Cheeseburger at 10$ with mushrooms, onions, lettuce, and tomatoes. It's very tasty, and also a huge burger, most definitely heavier on the stomach than in-n-out's double-double with extra everything (also heavier on the wallet, as the double double is less than $4 by itself). Maybe I've grown too used to In-n-out burgers, but i can say with certainty that the TASTE of the Bacon Cheeseburger is better. The star of the show is definitely the meat patty being superior, and the mushrooms are a great touch. Unfortunately, it is not twice-as-good better as to justify the price. The construction of the burger isnt as good, the meat patty is directly above the bread, so the juices quickly sog through and the whole thing becomes a mess...In-n-out corrected this problem by putting the lettuce-tomatoe under the meat patty decades ago. This is something anyone who's ever made burgers at home figures out pretty quickly, so i am suprised by 5guy's chosen inferior methodology. Lastly, the fries. 5guys likes to have different sizes of the same thing cluttering their menus, but I usually order the "regular" size for an outrageous $4. the quantity is actually double in-n-out fries, so its not too bad, but in-n-out wins in quality 100%. 5guys fries are good.... but they're way too heavy, oversalted, and slightly overdone. Just like the burgers, the fries get soggy quickly too. In short, I think that 5guys is way too overpriced, for only a slight improvement in burger meat over in-n-out. It's worth trying once, but no matter what you order here, it's never worth the money when something like in-n-out has broken the fast-food experience down to a perfect science at an insanely affordable price, when 5guys is about as outdated as white supremacy read more

I hate that they wrap their burgers in foil. Instant soggyness, lost major point there. They are so busy that I think that is why there are five pickles and two tomatoes on one side of the burger and nothing on the other. I don't want a bite with pure pickle. Their beef does taste good, but with the soggy buns it just ruins it. Their fries are way too oily, look too brown and not that crispy. The plus is the free toppings, but I hate that if you say "everything" they cashier says "all the way?". Also you can bring your dog on the patio. The line is long but they move quick. I really think they are expanding too quick and will die out after the initial hype, just like Kristy Kreme. So meh I've had better. I've been on the quest with my BFF for the perfect burger, so I thought I'd give these "guys" a try. I didn't quite know what to expect, but I think I was pleasantly surprised. First: the staff at this location is extremely professional, friendly and accommodating. I can't remember the last time I saw so much team work in a restaurant. You can tell, they really take pride in their work and enjoy their job. Second: The food taste overall was very good. The burger was tasty, they had all my favorite toppings, and sorry to say, the fries had in and out beat. They were probably my favorite aspect of my dining experience. Finally: I appreciate a restaurant that is not stingy with the ketchup or napkins, and the free peanuts are a nice touch. Also liked the selection of Coke products. Went here for the first time last week and was it a new experience. Free peanuts, although I didn't even need any with the large amount of fries that they serve. The burger was tasty and I loved all of the available toppings they had to choose from. I went at about 3 in the afternoon and even at this time the place was a little crowed so I can't imagine what it would be like during lunch time. While the burgers are a little pricier they are good and a whole lot better than other fast food places like mcdonalds or burger king. Like every other review on here, I went because of all the hype...Is it really better than In'n'out? I'm gonna go with NO. The burger itself was pretty good, except for the soggy bun. I mean way soggy...There are a decent amount of topping options at no additional cost, which is nice. We got an order of fries, and it was HUGE. I mean one regular order was enough for me and 4 other guys. The texture between fries varied, which almost makes it seem like they might have been frozen. I ate here for the first time yesterday and all I can say is... WOW! Sorry to say this, but MOVE OVER In-N-Out. I think I just discovered my new burger fix. I used to hear people brag that at In-N-Out they'll make your burger for you however you want to order it. Well this place is a much better choice for customizable burgers. The standard burger comes with two patties, and you choose what you want them to put on it. They have a list of ingredients to choose from, and you can either have everything or just pick and choose. For my first visit I got a burger with bacon, cheese, grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, and barbecue sauce. DELICIOUS! It was juicy and full of flavor. I absolutely loved it. I don't know what all the hype is. When I walked in this place there were peanuts all over the floor as some type of cool experience but I've seen it before so it was nothing original. I hoped the burgers and fries would be delicious seeing as it was a collaboration between five guys. The burger was bland and tasted like peanut oil. The fries did too. I've been waiting forever for this place to open. Telling everyone at my church about it and how good it is. And I was not let down, even though my friends are all brain washed by In N Out(so over rated and over played) and weren't open to even kinda liking it, I still loved it. The burgers are so yummy and I love the fact that I can get almost anything I want on it, unlike other places. A friend had a plain hot dog and he said that it was really good. The fries are to die for and the small size is big enough for almot three people to share. And they even have smaller size hamburgers if you're not that hungry. I love the fact that they give you peanuts to eat before you're food is ready and it's fun shelling them and throwing them on the floor. And the place isn't dirty either cause they constanly have someone sweeping and cleaning. Inside there isn't much seating but the patio has plenty of seating and most of it is covered and there is music playing, which is always nice. Bonus you can preorder your meal online and it will be ready when you get there, how cool is that. read more

I heard this place wasn't that great so I never tried it until recently. WHAT? What are you people on? I think this place is BOMB.COMzz. You can make your own burger. Basically, you pay for the burger and all the toppings are FREE! FYI, the hamburger comes with JUST the bun and patty, cheeseburger comes with the bun, patty, and cheese. You have to ADD other stuff if you want, which is pretty cool. They have an indoor seating area as well as an outdoor. The fries. OMG the fries.. I got their cajun style.. BOMB. We stoped at Five Guys by Fullerton. I don't understand how people like this place. I mean In N Out is way better than this place. Fries are not good at all. Now they offer peanuts. This was my second time going to a Five Guys, was not impressed the first time, I thought I would give it a second chance because people keep talking about it and saying how much better it was than IN N OUT. This place is no IN N OUT, far from it! In fact Carls Jr. has Five Guys beat by leaps and bounds. First I gotta say that Five Guys really has no presentation, its a basic looking place with just red and white, All over the restaurant they have reviews and pictures displayed about how good they are. As for the food, doesn't matter if you dine-in or take out, your meal comes in a brown paper bag. The burger is wrapped in foil and fries come in a cup. The food tasted ok, the burger meat was really good, but thats all the burger had going for it, the bun was starchy and the cheese was just standard american cheese. The fries were ok, made with peanut oil, taste is a little different, but not bad at all. I wouldn't go here again, its way over priced for what it is, and the quality and presentation are bad. I should have gone to the del taco next store and had Two Double Del's for $3.50, would have been a lot more satisfied. IN N OUT still has the greatest burgers out there, the Five Guys should eat there and see how a real burger is made! read more

After the third time my coworker said "I'm really craving five guys", despite the countless jokes at his expense, I decided it was time to give this place a try. I wish I had gone to The Habit instead. The burger was mediocre. The fries were good, but not enough to overshadow the half decent burger. Sure, for the price, its better than, say, Carl's Jr. But for the price, you could also get In n Out (and nobody ever had to endure off color jokes about how they're craving in n out).
