I heard good things about five guys; not GREAT, GOOD. So when I had an opportunity to try it this evening I decided to give it a chance. I walk through the door and it had a familiar red and white color motif. Sterling reviews from numerous prominent upstanding and regional publications plastered all along the walls and the usual commotion of a burger place. The first troubling sign was the menu hanging from the ceiling and the absence of a combo list; then I turned my attention to the prices and I was dumbfounded and not because of the sensibility of the prices but at the almost reckless extravagance of the prices. I ignored my instincts and went ahead and ordered a bacon cheese burger with everything ("everything" is in reference to the toppings like lettuce, tomato, ketchup, etc. in the burger which they graciously give you for free, not a drink and fries which are priced separately) and the total rounds up to about $8. My cousins ordered two little cheese burgers, a regular fries (which was basically the small size), and a large drink and their total was about $15. We pick up our food and have at them. My cousins get out their burgers before I do and they're about 3.5 inches in diameter and thinking that because they ordered off the "little" menu that their burgers were supposed to be that small, and thinking that because I didn't order off the "little" menu my burger would be a bit bigger, I was sadly mistaken. My burger was the same size as theirs; the only distinction was I had two meat patties and theirs only had one. I take a bite out of my burger and my hair DIDN'T blow back, I DIDN'T have to change my pants, the heavens DIDN'T open up beckoning me, "Come home!" And judging by the looks on my cousins faces they weren't impressed either. We finished our burgers and killed the meager offering of fires and walked out; then my cousin uttered what I at the least was thinking, "It didn't feel like I ate anything!" I'll leave it at that. It was a generic burger, nothing you couldn't put together yourself at a fourth of July barbeque. Save your money and go anywhere else for your burger fix. Oh! And if you have to put SO many positive reviews of your restaurant all over the walls it smacks of insecurity, act like you've been in the end zone before. read more

My husband raved about this place!!! I met up with a friend who also raved about this place!! ! I had the small cheeseburger (4.49) , Make sure you add your toppings otherwise it's very plain. My friend had the bacon cheeseburger (6.89) and we shared a large Cajun fires (4.99). He loves and loves the fries but its too soggy for me. I like my fries crispy. OMG, ENOUGH with the In N Out crap! I'm so through with reading reviews on places only to hear people slam other burger places because of its cost and how it's not like In N Out. Obviously, if it were LIKE In N Out, it'd be called In N Out. Just sayin' folks. Despite the bad reviews from the In N Out fanatics, I ventured into here anyways. My burger was hot, delicious, and VERY satisfying. Was it more expensive? Sure was, but it's not an issue to me because LOOK at how much more food you get. I'm not going to even compare it to the thin ass patty you get from In N Out which is hidden by the abundance of lettuce and condiments. Overcompensation tactic, obviously. Fact is, I like bang for my buck. So, the only reason why they didn't get 5 stars was because the fries were a bit soggy. Burger: 5 Stars. Yeah, if you're on a budget you probably don't want to spend 10 dollars on a burger. But, if you go to a restaurant it's like that anyways. As a general comment, I think Five Guys needs to adjust their advertising and stop the In N Out comparisons. First, a $5 burger? If you order a little cheeseburger, regular fry and a regular drink, it will cost you $9.47 before tax...price-wise this is not bargain compared to In N Out which will cost about $5 for a double double combo meal...half the price. And don't think the difference is quality. Both provide good quality fresh food. I have enjoyed Five Guys restaurants in Virginia and two other locations in California and thoroughly enjoyed my visit to each of them. However, the new location in Northridge, CA leaves much to be desired. For the past nearly a year, we had trekked to Thousand Oaks to enjoy Five Guys (a 25 mile drive). While we were excited when Simi Valley opened (about a 7 mile drive) we anxiously awaited the opening of Northridge franchise which would be a great location for us; close and convenient. Well, Northridge finally opened. We have now visited this location three times since it opened. We have yet to have an order served up as ordered. At the first visit, they totally messed up one of the burgers. When my son went to the counter to get it fixed, the manager gave him attitude and suggested the burger wasn't ordered correctly. Now I don't know about you, but if I've just opened a new franchise location, I'm not sure I would be giving my NEW customers a hard time when they don't get what they suggest they ordered. At any rate, this provided a window into how management at this location was going to deal with problems. Moving on...we decided to chalk the first visit up to early opening jitters and give it another chance...twice. With each instance our order was delivered missing something. And in each case, the solution provided by personnel was one whereby they did the least amount of work to get our order correct. Example, my son's hot dog was ordered with mustard. It came without. Rather than putting mustard on the dog, they provided a cup of mustard for him to put it on himself; just not the same. While this may seam trivial, it is indicative of the lack of attention to detail or care for the customer exhibited by management and staff at the Northridge location And finally, this comment applies to most of the locations I have visited, turn down the music. While your staff may like it blasting, some of us enjoy being able to talk to the people with whom we are dining. We have yet to visit a location and not have to ask for the volume to be lowered. One must also consider that not all like the genre of music being blasted. For me, I will venture to Simi Valley where they seem to give a hoot about the customer. Studio city 5 stars Northridge 1 star I used to go to Studio city,I love 5 guys fries, I recentlty found out there was a 5 guys closer to me at Northridge. The fries here seem very soggy,I told them how Studio city has better fries,they suggested next time I ask for well done, all seems OK now.. So...Like many of the people here, I've also been anxiously waiting for this place to open. Now even though it opened literally across from In-N-Out (my favorite burger), I thought to myself- Hey now I have two great options. Now obviously I've never tried Five Guys, my impression was based on word of mouth and from that, I heard great things... So I decided to finally try it, I ordered online since I knew it would be a HUGE line, which when I got there had 30+ people waiting to order. So lucky me, I got my order in 5 minutes and walked out. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and some cajun fries all for a measly $11...wait, what? $11? Yea...So anyway, after a few bites i quickly noticed that there was no BACON. Good job "guys". Now with the fries, I only had about 7 fries, literally, before I knew I couldn't eat them. They should rename them 'So Overly Seasoned That You Can't Eat Them Fries'. My overall experience wasn't great, as you would assume...The Burger was okay, I suppose. The only good thing I got out of it was you can order as much extra ingredients as you want at no charge. The online ordering is also pretty sweet. Other than that, nothing great. I can't say if I'll go back, considering In-N-Out is across from Five Guys...I'll take the latter. I have been to In-N-Out many times before. I saw the hype on the Laist about how this restaurant is the main rival in the east and blah blah blah. So I went to test it out. I go inside, looks somewhat like In-N-Out except with less people. I guess it was due to the 8:30pm visit. So I go to the counter. I see the prices and saw the hamburger being 5 bucks??? What??? I was shocked... I was in a Fatburger under disguise. I then asked the cashier how big the little hamburger was.... He explains that the little burger has one patty, basically a regular burger costing 2 bucks... Relieved I order 2 little burgers and 2 fries. The final price 14 bucks! (Imagine with soda???) I said to myself, "they better be something awesome that surpasses the taste of In-N-Out and all of the independent charbroiled joints for that amount of money." I test it out with my girlfriend. I came in with the expectation that oh, this would be competing for my love affair with Inn n Out, but this was not even close! I will as far as to say I like The Habit burger better in terms of flavor of the burger it self. I don't care for fresh cut fries I'm not a fan of Five Guys nor In-N-Out. After visiting a local furniture store for a new recliner (which we didn't buy) we stopped in this place for a cheap dinner. This was my first time here. You'd think I would have done this place already since I love burgers! Menu was pretty small. Reminded me of In-n-Out but with a bit more options. What's this? Lookie here at all the optional items you can drown your burger in!! Gotta love that. We were starving so we split a double cheeseburger with some basic items on it. I let the wife order all the condiments because I'd be having jalapenos and onions on it and that would not be acceptable to her. Anyway, grabbed a bowlful of peanuts (I know, right?) and sat down to wait for our order. Took a little longer than some places but not bad - besides I had more free peanuts to eat! The burger was a bit on the small side, but was pretty darn tasty. I'd rate it above the overrated In-n-Out as far as taste. The fries were also good, but it's pretty hard to beat those super salty, imitation potato McDonald's fries, right? Service was good. Place seemed clean. You can see from the reviews here that the staff actually chimes in, which is an awesome plus. That said, meh. Ordered a cheese burger with grilled onions and french fries. The fries were OK. I noticed that when they made the burger they pressed down on it as it cooked. They did this more than once. This is Burger 101-fail. It presses the juiciness out of the burger. When the burger arrived, it was rather tasteless and the onions rather gross. The bun also left a lot to be desired. Bad service. I asked for a cheeseburger with everything and onions. The guy behind counter asks fresh or grilled onions. I respond fresh and go sit for 20 minutes. Since they dont do combos i also paid for fries and a drink. So for 20 minutes I sat nursing iced tea. When I got my food it was pure onions.... no lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup, nothing just a pile of raw onions. I asked the guy to add the missing items anc he said he cant touch it. He called manager to tell me they would have to make a new one. I told him I had to go back to work and did not have another 20 minutes. He said 2 minutes? I said no and he said thfow it away and he gave me a refund MINUS THE DRINK BECAUSE I WAS DRINKING ONE CUP OF ICED TEA!! I wanted to take my dollar back from tip jar. Five Guys is all right. First time I went, got their regular cheeseburger. I got a tummy ache afterwards =/ Didn't get to try their cajun fries though. Just had regular fries. Honestly, I'll have to go with the general consensus, that In-N-Out is just more fulfilling of a burger. I like that Five Guys puts mushrooms in 'em, and they do have their own spin on burgers & fries. But overall, the simplicity of the In-N-Out is just in so many ways, better. They only add that special sauce to give burgers, its distinct yet subtle kick. Plus their ingredients just mesh well together. Big serving, Good quality, and BOMB FRIES! Five guys can be a bit pricey but their burgers are juicy. I like that you can customize your order. They also have an all you can eat peanut situation which helps pass the time when waiting for your order. I LOVE THEIR FRIES! This location is clean and spacious. Not as bad as others say. I'm sorry, guys. I'm gonna have to disagree with you about Five Guys. I really like it. I've been eating in every one of the local chains here for decades, including In and Out. My favorite for the "expensive" fast food places is Fatburger, and my second favorite is Wendy's. There's something about In and Out that doesn't raise it (for me) to the level of worship that most people feel. The lettuce and tomato are fresh, and that's great, and it's a reasonable good burger, albeit with a strange beef aftertaste that reminds me of McDonalds when I was a kid. But the In and Out fries, even though they are "pure", seem weak and desiccated. To me, Five Guys beats out In and Out on everything except price. The burger itself is juicy and flavorful, without a weird aftertaste. Adding grilled onions and grilled mushrooms is heaven, and bacon makes it outstanding. In two visits, my burgers were very tasty. All the other stuff you can add (jalapenos, A-1, etc.) put this burger well past In and Out. The fries are heaven for me. "Pure", but meaty. I like the seasoning and I like that the potato skins are still on the fries. In fact, these are the best fast food fries I've had. Only Fatburger's fat fries exceed these, and that's only when loaded with chili and cheese. The prices seem high, but actually they are in line with Fatburger. Given the amount of money I pay at Granville Cafe for the absolute best burger in town, Five Guys prices are actually reasonable. The quality of beef and potatoes are simply much better than at In and Out. Service and the environment in the store is chaotic but tolerable. They screwed up my order the 2nd time I was there (I loathe mayo and they accidentally put it on my burger). But they corrected it within 90 seconds with a new burger AND brought it to my table. So, kudos for that. It's not worth a drive from Sherman Oaks to Northridge, but I'm sure they will be opening more Five Guys within easy driving distance. And when they do, I'll probably be there more than Fatburger and Wendy's. read more

I think this place is A-ok. Service was great, location was clean but the food seems fairly average. I had the bacon cheeseburger bunless with grilled onions, mushrooms and pickles. DEFINITELY NEVER COMING HERE AGAIN. So, there has been so much hype with this spot. I walk inside, and it is crowded, much like In-n-out. Basic menu consisting of burgers hotdogs fries and sodas. Upon first entering it looks pretty legit with the crowd, the red and white tiles, and all the good reviews posted on the walls, but a thought pops into my head, "Do they really need to justify their food with reviews on the wall or will the food speak for itself?" As I wait for my meal, I can hear the light whispers of numbers being called. I hear "45", hmmm "46"... I was 40. So I go up and sit closer so I can hear better. "47" "48". Granted I should have tried to listen for my number better, but I went up to ask, and they put my meal to the side because they already called it. They didn't call again. They didn't speak louder. We are in a rather larger room with many people and loud music playing... I think you can effing say my number a few more times. I finally got my burger, and boy WHAT A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT... The burger: Although the patty was pretty impressive in size, that was all it had going for it. There was no flavor other than the ketchup and mustard. I figured with all the talk, there would be some special sauce or tantalizing seasoning...nothing. The buns were soggy, and the toppings were plain. IT was falling apart left and right. The fries: Oh they had talk about their fries, but let me tell you, CRAP. They try to be innovative by placing them in a cup, but it does not make up for the fact that they were very bland. No crisp at all to the fries. Only seasoned by salt. AND THE WORST, they were very tiny peices. They must have used midget potatoes, because each fry was about an inch or 2. Food isn't the problem. It's every single employee there and lack of care for the restaurant is. It's because the floor wasn't kept clean, peanut shells on the floor, that someone fell very hard. Not one employee came out to check in her or offer to call the ambulance, one of them even said "there's nothing we can do" are you serious? There's a couple things you can do. One clean up the peanut shells, two get out from the behind the counter when you see a customer laying in the floor, and three at least offer to call for help. The lady who fell was in the ground for a very long time and was with one other person who had a baby, a screaming and stressed out baby from seeing his mother laying on the floor in pain. She could barley even open her eyes from hitting her head. At least other customers myself included got up to help but it's completely unacceptable the way those employees handled the situation. This is the second time I've been to 5 Guys and it's made me happy once again. The burger is juicy and flavorful. Not the best burger but it's up there with in n out. Love the melted cheese grilled onions and lettuce. You can opt to double the patty. I absolutely love the fries here!!! They're addicting. I really like the burgers here. Taste like your regular backyard burger, but you don't have to clean the grill. =) I absolutely LOVE their fries, but what sucks is that they're not consistant on how much they give. For the majority of the time, you can order a small and when you get your order, it's so much that you'd think you acidentally ordered a large! I LOVED that! But, there have been a couple of times in-between where a small was well, a small...but super small. UGH. Would I come back again? I was recommended to try Five Guys by a friend who ate at one in Thousand Oaks. Being a new establishment, it was pretty popular. I thought the burger and fries were pretty good. If I had a choice (in that area), I would still go to The Habit first, then In-N-Out, then Five guys. If I was completely health-conscious, I would not be ordering from a burger joint. But out of the three mentioned, Five Guys was the greasiest to me. I know, I know, the fat in the meat makes the flavor but I actually bit into a tiny ball of fat which grossed me out (at least I hope it was fat). I think they are at the same level of In-N-Out but when I ate the burger, I was reminded of how unhealthy my choice was. I think that is the difference between the two. read more

I decided to try out Five Guys' online ordering system because I love online shopping and minimal contact with other human beings. I ordered 3 burgers and 1 Cajun fries online and then had my dad pick up the food. When he brought the food back, my brother accidently ate my burger (with mushrooms, peppers, and other random toppings) because the burgers are completely wrapped up in paper in addition to foil and labeled with a number so you can't see what's inside it. A couple of complaints. 1) I'm not sure how long Five Guys will last in California because they're way too un-eco-friendly. Seriously. Do you really need to wrap the burger in paper AND foil? 2) My brother's cheeseburger was soggy and the cheese was pretty disgusting. The cheese tasted like Velveeta cheese, like the cheese that people use in gross mac n cheese recipes. 3) The online ordering system rocks, but the burger is meant to be eaten immediately. As said before, the burger was soggy in the 15 minutes that my dad went to pick up the burgers. 4) I love seasoned fries, but covering every square millimeter of the fries with seasoning is just overdoing it. 5) Way too expensive for fast food. I'd go back for the fries but maybe just the regular ones. The only reason why this location is getting 2 stars instead of 1 star is that I've had a decent Five Guys experience once in Arizona, so they have potential. read more

One gal behind the counter had to stick her finger in her 'free' ear to hear the call she was taking. If you have a serious peanut allergy...stay away! This place has been reviewed to death already but il throw my 2 cents worth into the mix. Been here quite a few times now, and must say I'm happy with the service and end product! No point dressing it up, its a burger and fries place, plain and simple. Food is very tasty and fresh, plus you get free peanuts while you wait, what more could you ask for?!? Immediately, we noticed that the fries didn't even smell like fries; they were soggy, oily and tasteless without their seasoning. So, I asked for well done fries; still, not as good as IN-N-OUT. Ironically, one of their reviews posted on the wall claims that: "These guys know fries." ; we disagree. The burger was ok; the toppings were ok, at best. Five Guys - it may be new to the burger joint biz (it first opened in 1986), but it grew fast. And boy, their food does not disappoint! When you walk in, you're greeted by numerous posters on the walls reading "The Willy Wonkas of Burgercraft", "Voted Best Burger", and by then you know your tastebuds are ready for something extravagant. There's also free peanuts to munch on - help yourself! The burgers are a bit pricey - I mean, the regular hamburger comes with TWO PATTIES. But as with Shake Shack, you get what you pay for. The burgers are juicy and hot, served between a split sesame seed bun, and you can order them many different ways! Cheeseburger with bacon? No problem. Mustard and tomato? They've got you covered. Jalapeño, mayo and relish? Are you serious? Of course! The fries are cooked with the potato skin on, which is great, considering it's the healthiest part of the potato. I'm not saying it makes the fries healthy, but you know what I mean. They're not that crispy, but... the flavor. Oh, the flavor! Add some salt and pepper from the condiment area, and it's better than you can imagine. This is one of the select locations that offers Coca-Cola Freestyle machines. If you want an Orange Coke or Grape Sprite, nobody's gonna stop you. It's also one of the select locations that offers MILKSHAKES. Oh, are they good! Unlike In-N-Out (which is a marvelous burger joint in its own right - it's my other favorite burger joint) Five Guys puts whipped cream on your milkshakes - for extra creamy flavor. Pretty classy for a burger chain. You can also mix sweet treats such as Oreo cookies, crushed candy bars, nuts, and even BACON into your shakes! Want a good burger and think you've had enough of In-N-Out, Shake Shack, and/or The Habit? Five Guys is the place. Now you see why it just became America's top burger in the polls. read more

Ok bottom line with this place and what everyone wants to know: Burgers are better at In n Out but french fries are better here. Still great burgers!! Especially if you want to customize your burger and add a bunch of toppings. Also Cajun fries are reallllly good! Like this place, but I'm just loyal to the other burger. read more

The service is great, the burgers are okay, the cajun fries are really good. It's a bit pricey for what it is. I have been here a few times because the fries made me come back. Other than that the burgers are average not the best. read more
