So here's the story: I called the day before to make a large group reservation for 25. They said great, it's done, see ya tomorrow. I walked in 10 min early with some people from my party, and they told me the reservation was cancelled. I ask why. The hostess said it's because they didn't receive a call the day of confirming that it was still on. My bewilderment and increasing number of people in my party walking through the door must've helped her get the hint to go get who I'm assuming was her boss, who walked up to me saying "you're the party of 25? Oh yeah we cancelled that." 1. No name or title given. 2. No apology for the miscommunication. 3. No sense of urgency to find a solution whatsoever. I told him I was never told to call to confirm. Calling to cancel, that's common sense, but any deviation from that norm was not told to me. He said we called you and left you a voicemail. I said I get calls and voicemails all the time from unknown numbers, maybe if I was expecting a call I would've been more keen to answer, and all in all, a large group is on the way whether they like it or not. 4. For that reason, acted like it was my fault and had zero professionalism. My words convinced him to do something and we ended up having our dinner there (had to wait 15 min for our section to get freed up), but then the waitress was slurring her words and seemed intoxicated and it took her WAY too long to run our checks, they blamed the system. We go here fairly frequently and most of the time it's pleasant but sometimes it's never bad but a bit lackluster. Again never terrible but the little details are missed and servers hard to get their attention. Last time we went I ordered the arugula salad with North Atlantic Salmon and when we received it, there was no salmon. When I asked I was given a side of smoked salmon and informed that's how they always serve their salmon, which I know isn't true. My husband and I have an affinity for all things brunch...proper with the inclusion of mimosas! I usually get the same thing, so fir that reason I haven't updated my review until now. I ventured to try a new item on the menu: The Vegetable Benny. I'm always nervous and end up over ordering in the off chance I don't like the new item I have a backup or leftovers. The veggie Benny has a herb hollandaise, mushrooms, and goat cheese on the English muffin. It was absolutely delicious. I have no idea why I was nervous. The hollandaise was the star for me. It was creamy and even though it was not made using eggs, it wasn't missing anything. It is definitely on the list. You should try it if you haven't already. Live a little. The atmosphere is fantastic and food was super great. Being a vegetarian options are limited but they had many options to chose from. Beet hummus portabello mushroom burger and vegan sweet potato soup were fabulous. Our server was super sweet and so helpful with the menu. She has a great personality. We found this place through Yelp and so glad we stumbled upon it. It is within walking distance to downtown Summerville. The place is very cute with a great atmosphere. We were first served warm rosemary Focaccia bread. It tasted as though it was freshly baked and it was so delicious. For dinner we ordered two soup samplers, a spinach salad with chicken, and smoked salmon salad. The food was served quickly and came out great. The roasted red pepper soup and Mexican chili were our favorite soups. The strawberry spinach salad tasted very fresh and was delicious. The smoked salmon salad was very freshly prepared and great as well. Our server, Malik, was very helpful and checked on us frequently. The kale on the salad was doused in oil (I understand putting oil in it to make the kale massaged or what have you, but it was soaked). So that meal was ruined. I had a couple bites and tried to make it work but it was too wet. The picture is without any dressing. FLC Caesar was a full and had 5 tortellini pieces on it. Once again i'm going to have to go to confession because I didn't take any pictures when I should have. But if you will pardon that transgression, I would like to give a brief assessment of dinner at this particular establishment. My wife and I moved here from New England back in June (2022), and ever sense the move, we have noticed that this particular restaurant is commonly crowded. One day per week is devoted to "date night," in our home, and sometimes we will go back to a familiar restaurant that we feel comfortable with; and other times we will try new restaurants, because it's always a fun and exciting thing to try a new place. We take turns choosing the restaurant, and it was my turn this week, so I finally decided to call this particular restaurant, to see if they take reservations, and I found out they do not. BUT, I was told that they change over to their "dinner" menu at five o'clock, and so if we arrived some time between four and five o'clock, not only would we find parking and a table, but we would also be able to HAVE the dinner menu. We noted that the menu had a lot of Vegetarian (V) and Gluten Free (GF) items, and i'm not a typical consumer in either one of those categories. I admit to an uninformed prejudice towards vegetarian food (which i suppose i could be converted from), but I DO have some experience with "Gluten Free" breads (for example) and I don't particularly care for the density. The bread served at the time of the appetizers was as expected for Gluten Free. That said, I ended up with an appetizer that was (I believe) called a "Mexican Chili," if I remember correctly. It tasted wonderful! However, it is a stretch to call it a "Chili." My Entree was chicken with creamed corn and Kale. It was a feast of flavors and texture! I had a glass of wine and a raspberry something or other for dessert. My wife's meal was the same, although she did not have the Kale, and she did not have the dessert. Both of us thought the food was just fine, and we received the food in a timely fashion. The price overall, for the entire meal, was reasonable. I suppose the only reason that I would not give five stars to this restaurant, (especially considering so many people eat there and like it), is because they will not take reservations; and I prefer to have a guaranteed table. The only other reason for a lack of a fifth star was..........There was a very tall bearded gentlemen there, who obviously was either the Manager or the Owner, who spent an uncomfortable amount of time loudly talking about various topics, over my shoulder and nearby. I preferred having the chance to converse with my wife over dinner, but the conversation behind me was a distraction from my ability to concentrate, and she had the same comment after we left. Parking, at least if you arrive between 4 and 5 on a week day (I can't speak to weekends) was no issue. read more

But worth the cost for a cute place to sit down and eat breakfast. They also have a bar if morning cocktails are your speed. We decided to go have lunch and fortunately we drove by this place, turned around to have lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. I must say, we had a wonderful experience at Five Loaves Cafe in Summerville, SC! The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. I started off with their margarita specials (with cider and cranberry, I believe) I particularly enjoyed their Ruben sandwich and a Mexican soup which were both delicious and made with high-quality ingredients. It's evident that the chefs take pride in their craft. Overall, Five Loaves Cafe is a fantastic place to enjoy a delicious meal in a welcoming environment. I highly recommend it! Was visiting Summerville for the day and I stopped by here for lunch. Front staff seated me immediately and my server was excellent. My sister lives in Summerville and we live all the way across the state so I see her rarely. This time my daughter and I decided to meet her at her daughters favorite place Five Loaves Cafe. First, the place is a beautifully renovated Victorian house. Inside is decorated the same. The menu was full of every type of food you could imagine. My sister I think got pan-fried collards. We all chose similar excellent dishes. We stayed quite a while but were never rushed to leave so they could clean and get another group going. We did soon leave as we had a 100 mile drive. We decided to give this place a try after Church. Cute little place that is bigger then you think. We were able to walk in and get a table. I love the blue chairs and the tables with benches. We all enjoyed our food and almost all cleared our plates. I definitely enjoyed the chicken and waffles with the nice spiced butter, I hardly used any of the pecan syrup. The chicken was a nice blend though it was a tad dry. Nice portion of chicken which I shared with my daughter who ate a cup of the soap of the day...potato cheddar broccoli and the cleaned them bowl. My other daughter is vegetarian so had several choices from her to chose from and she got the veggie Benedict. My husband ordered the chicken salad club which came out huge!! We got here at 11am for lunch even though we thought we were doing brunch, they had literally just opened! It's a cute little house that you can eat in different rooms. The patio was cute but it was too hot outside for that. We sat by a fake fireplace. The hostess and servers were very nice and attentive. By the way, no brunch on weekdays! Now we know. They offer half sandwiches so you can get a soup or salad if you want too, that's great. I got their Mexican chicken chili, so freaking tasty and fresh!! Very good. Possibly my fav thing I've had here. I also got the harissa chicken sandwich which was on their specials for that particular day. The bread gets soggy quick because the chicken is fresh and hot, but the sandwich was still yummy and flavorful. There wasn't exactly a "fancy" grilled cheese on the menu but my mom ordered one with a cheese combo, tomato and bacon. She gets grilled cheeses everywhere we go. We both thought our food was good. Prices comparable to Panera bread, so I'd rather eat the fresh food here. There's also a cute little bar you can sit at. I also saw people ordering yummy desserts. I wish I had saved room.
